View Full Version : WORLI | Raheja Legend | 167 m | 40 fl | T/O

Raheja Legend -- Worli, Mumbai
http://img410.imageshack.us/img410/4062/image2uk1.jpg
The 40-story residential Raheja Legend is one of the first modern skyscrapers to come up since the Indian economic boom. Not to be confused with the similarly sized and named "The Legend" at Walkeshwar, Raheja Legend is a developed by K Raheja Universal and designed by P&T Group of Singapore, and is one of Raheja Builders's first major skyscraper projects in the city.
Like most of Raheja Universal's buildings the design has been changed repeatedly through the last couple years to a far more glassy and classy design, reflecting Indian economic growth and the increasing expectations of the Indian consumer.
It's first design was a very ho-hum concrete tower, painted with what would have been an atrocious shade of blue:
http://img246.imageshack.us/img246/8803/rahejalegendelevej1.jpg
In Feb, 2007, a new design was suddenly being promoted all over Mumbai. Raheja Universal seemed not to even acknowledge the older design, as seen in this photo by nervi1 @ flickr:
http://img99.imageshack.us/img99/60/2332627040061416106sgmxze0.jpg
^ The first time the new rendering of Raheja Legend is revealed above the Worli placename, on a hoarding in South Mumbai
This new design was a far better, but still not eye-catching, semi-glass cladded design. The height was also scaled upwards some. The newer design reflected the trend towards art deco-throwback architecture in Mumbai, popularized by its neighbor RNA Mirage.
http://img108.imageshack.us/img108/4164/rahejalegendlarge16gg.jpg
^ The second design at night
The latest (and final) design came late last year. According to the architects, this new iteration of Raheja Legend is "inspired by the billowing wind-filled sails of boats along the Bombay coastline." The building is one of the forebearers of what I unscientifically term the 'swooshy' trend in many new buildings in Mumbai, with its glass cladding and crown. The design has won Raheja the Best Developer - Residential Award (Future) design at Cityscape India 2007 last december:
http://img87.imageshack.us/img87/4665/rahejalegenddy2ri6.jpg
^ The finalized design
It is worth noting that the design was finalized after construction had actually started. Hence the podium of the tower is similar in structure to the second design.
Raheja Legend is one of the first groundbreaking skyscrapers to come up at Worli, paving the way for increasingly taller buildings that have culminated in the numerous supertalls proposed in the area today. It is located next to RNA Mirage, also u/c:
http://img139.imageshack.us/img139/2180/2dm3.jpg (http://img139.imageshack.us/img139/3262/22c993d7rf4.jpg) http://img139.imageshack.us/img139/5590/182mn2.jpg (http://img139.imageshack.us/img139/4469/12c9a396fl9.jpg)
^ The next door RNA Mirage
The location and design of both towers will ensure commanding views and a greater funkiness to the growing Worli skyline.

Cant wait for more updated photos.

Cov Boy May 9th, 2008, 05:59 PM lol yeah me too!
TdotTdot May 9th, 2008, 10:06 PM I think its high time someone proposes a new tv tower for mumbai like the innovative one at gangzhou. That will really mark the coming of the skyscraper age in india.

Jai June 30th, 2008, 05:25 AM new one is clearer
zhiemi July 1st, 2008, 10:14 AM Great updates!
bhopalus July 30th, 2008, 07:49 PM i dont get it, looking at the UC pics and the renderings it seems IMPOSSIBLE for the building to actually turn out like the renderings cuz the building is concrete and shitty like most buildings in mumbai but the rendering is nice and glassy
Jai July 30th, 2008, 09:48 PM Because it's still under construction.
India101 August 3rd, 2008, 03:43 AM I thought that this tower was 38 floors
India101 August 3rd, 2008, 03:47 AM But 40 floors even better

Typically, they clad the towers.
Anyway, from what I've seen so far Legend looks like one of the most attractive Skyscrapers in Mumbai U/C atm

It doesnt look like the shape of it in the render.
IndiansUnite January 8th, 2009, 02:24 AM ^ I see no curve. The steps like top perfectly jives with what's shown in the render.

No cladding yet, IU, but they've begun testing various shades of blue glass (for the facade).
India101 March 5th, 2009, 08:15 AM What about Mirage did that have more cladding or windows in?

Well to be honest, this side-profile is the best look of this building, otherwise it's a very ordinary stapled-up design like the Suraj building in Prabhadevi. Albeit that one is unique because it was a first of it's kind in the late 90's and also it's pencil thin shape gives it some more unique reference.
Don't know what sort of cladding has been chosen for Raheja Legend, so maybe the verdict is still not out until that is done and over with.
AucklandloverUK March 18th, 2009, 11:48 AM Im sorry but is it just me that thinks it looks absolelutly nothing like its render? Seems like a different building, dont know if its been asked but theres no crown?!
Cov Boy March 18th, 2009, 12:12 PM Thats because it isn't finished yet.
The construction has finished but works on the exterior and interior are still to be done.
Thats what I think anyway.

bhargavsura June 27th, 2009, 03:58 AM I think they are the 3x45 Floors Mahalakshami Vivarea that are u/c.
IndiansUnite June 27th, 2009, 04:04 AM Vivarea is further south, in this case on the right.
Those are the Ashok towers in Parel.
India101 June 29th, 2009, 09:04 AM IU I think Bhargav is right. Just look at this pic posted by Sun in Mumbai Ciyscapes. The Ashok Tower a few kms north and Vivarea is just about inline with Mirage & Legend.

There was a building earlier which housed a MNC pharmaceuticals ofiice called Raptakos brett & co., they wanted to redevelop the building so they demolised it, but that was long time back. Its been stuck ever since.

Looks awfully bright for a hole at night. Something's going on down there. 101 - would be good if you can make out what they're upto!!
India101 November 13th, 2010, 07:19 AM Work does seem to be going on. Here is the site in March, you can see equipment there -

I think he does not have shoes because it is easier to stand there with better grip and Sandals are something like pseudo shoes in India ... even I used to hardly wear shoes in India .. always those sandals :)
BTW I see he has at least good safety equipement to protect from falling !!
IN India we lack sense of safety .. home it is improving !!

One of them got called in to work when he had a day off and he forgot his work gear. Hence they shared it. :)

If that were the case, work shoes wouldn't have been invented.
Savz December 12th, 2010, 06:11 AM
jaadu December 12th, 2010, 07:26 AM I guess there is hardly a concept of shoes in those laborers let alone "working shoes"
anyways my point was that they mostly wear sandal and then its easier to climb if u open ur sandals ... we need more stringent safety rules though !!
my friend works in NTPC and he said that in 6 months he worked there 4 labors burnt to death in same way but still they keep on doing the work all the same .. no changes !! :(

Confirmed news about the construction site adjacent to legend
It was caught in a legal issue earlier but now construction has commenced which will house the pharmaceutical MNC's headquaters plus a 5 star medical centre. Proposed year of completion is 2012.
sixsigma1978 December 21st, 2010, 09:23 PM ^^ I guess its too early to speculate on its height. Hope its not a 5 or 10 storeyed "dwarf"! But the "5 star" medical center sounds promising :)
India101 December 22nd, 2010, 02:57 AM I think it may be around 20fls.
united March 5th, 2011, 04:04 PM is the cladding work still going on or is it finished ?

Yeah True....We need a TV tower like the CN Tower or the new Canton tower in Guangzhou since mumbai is very populated so more tvs, only much taller...wishful thinking is always good.

dunefreezer October 28th, 2011, 10:16 PM Very Nice...also who thinks Its time Mumbai gets a new communications tower??
azzi282 October 28th, 2011, 11:19 PM ^^ +1 and a great big one too like pearl oriental. They should build it in a prominant location for a great skyline.
jaadu October 28th, 2011, 11:55 PM +111
Have been saying this for long time .. its time we get our own Sky tree , KL tower , Pearl Tower or watever name just a tall awesome tower !!!
dunefreezer October 29th, 2011, 02:29 AM They should build it in a prominant location for a great skyline.
They can just build it in the same site of the present tower cuz It stands right in front of the Bandra Worli Sea Link....Which would be a beautiful sight from the bridge.
And yeah, its gotta be tall and unique/futuristic. None of the present towers are futuristic except for the one in china (don't remember its name). If we ever get one, we gotta beat that.
cityskylinelover October 29th, 2011, 12:47 PM A new communications tower can just increase the beauty of Worli, one of the most famous areas of Mumbai to a great extent. We should take examples from Guangzhou, Tokyo, Shanghai etc..
