Ilham Aliyev took part at the opening of several road infrastructure facilities

At the beginning President Ilham Aliyev inaugurated the overground crossing constructed recently at the 4.4th km of Airport Circle – Zugulba highway which is the most animated territory for vehicles and pedestrians in the Khazar region of capital city.

Head of state cut the ribbon signaling the opening of this crossing.

Transport Minister Ziya Mamedov informed that the construction work at this site has begun last May in line with action plan on improving the road system of Baku city.

A new overground pedestrian crossing meets the most modern standards. A high quality construction materials and equipment were used in the construction. The total length of the crossing is 61 meters, the width is 3.5 meters. Its overhead elevation from the road surface is 5.1 meters which ensures the smooth circulation of large trucks via this highway.

First of all, let's give our thanks to Azer Akhundov who credited all those pictures in the last few days.

Second, the opening of the currently under construction hotels in Baku will be completed in 2011. The only exception is Fairmont which could be done either in the end of 2011 or beginning of 2012. Hilton Baku is expected to be opened in September 2011.

As for the city itself, Baku is a nice, hospitable and safe city to visit. It has a vibrant urban life. In case you decide to visit Baku you can get some advices and so on in here http://www.citylife.az

Information on the project of a new administrative building of the Central Bank

Under the order of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Azerbaijan land is allocated in Haydar Aliyev Avenue to construct a new administrative building for the Central Bank. The present administrative building of the Central Bank of Azerbaijan was built and put in commission in 1998. The building that had modern design and infrastructure at that time was designed for 200 employees.

The scale of the country’s economy has grown in the past period, and given the deeper integration of the country into global economy, the widened scope of activity of the bank has necessitated creation of new management and functional infrastructural units. Operations of the Researches and Development Center, Credit Registry Service, launch of departments engaged in Communication and Strategic Management problems are among the examples of new management units in the Central Bank. It is not fortuitous that the number of employees of the Central Bank has increased in the past period and reached 500, the number is expected to go up in future. Therefore, it is necessary to construct a new administrative building of the Central Bank.

Researches were conducted to that end, and a number of well-known companies submitted their concepts reflecting up-to-date technologies for the construction of the administrative building of the CBA, and projects implemented by reputable European architectural companies were studied. As a result of researches, an internationally recognized Austrian company “COOPHIMMELB (l)AU” that implemented the project of the new administrative building for the European Central Bank, was selected for the implementation of the project of the new administrative building of the Central Bank.

The design of the building factors in such criteria as modernity, unique appearance, as well as skyscraper-ness. In light of the rapid increase of demand for cash caused by the growing economy of the country, the project includes creation of the Cash Center meeting international standards. At the same time, beginning of gold mining and forecasts about its future growth necessitate creation of a repository for gold reserves and this issue will also be addressed in the new building.

In light of management and functional development perspectives of the Central Bank for 20-25 years in line with the world practice, the project covers all infrastructures, conference halls, various training rooms, car parking, a library and a museum of the CBA open for citizens.
Currently the new management building is at the designing phase and no final decision has been taken.

Baku Oil Museum - Approved

The Design of the Oil Museum is a mixture of built space and landscape. It includes two major areas: The Museum Building Complex, and the Landscape of the Seven Parks. The Seven Parks are designed as seven elliptical areas whose arrangement has the form of a large theatrical contoured space facing the Museum Building-Complex.

The form of the Museum Building Complex is designed as a composition of two long Oil-blobs which are spurting out of the side of the landscape and the surrounding Park Lake.

The general form of the designed scheme is inspired by the combination of forms of the Earth and the Oil. Both main forms: the Landscape Theatrical space and the Oil-blobs, explore the transformation of the natural to the cultural, the transformation of the natural environment and natural material to the man-made structures. They explore the animation of the natural at the service of the human use and living. The curved theater-form operates as an animation of the naturally inclined landscape, and the blob-form as an animation of the surface of the thick liquid.

During the second phase of the project we introduced a hotel and conference center, and university complex.

London cabs in Baku

Some of the London Taxi TX4 cars delivered to Baku within a contract with the leading London taxi manufacturer Manganese Bronze Holdings began operation today, on Monday June 13, 2011.

Earlier, Azerbaijan received the first 150 purple London Taxi TX4s within the contract. The contract was signed with the manufacturer for 1,000 cars. All the cars will be delivered to Baku by late 2011.

Baku Bay bridge to cost $1.8bn

The estimated cost of a road bridge across Baku bay is $1.8bn, according to a head of department at Azerbaijan's Transport Ministry.
South Korea’s Dong Sang Engineering are to present a feasibility study for the bridge to the Transport Ministry by the end of July, Sadraddin Mammadov, head of the Transport Ministry's economic and transport policy department, told journalists on Friday.

He said the study would subsequently be presented to the government.

Mammadov said the project cost was estimated at $1.8bn.

“There is a plan to create an international consortium for the project to invest in the development, planning and operation of the bridge. As soon as the new bridge repays the investments, it will be transferred to Azerbaijan. Azerbaijan will not invest in the project,” Mammadov said.

The bridge will link Shikh, southwest of Baku, with Zikh to the east.

^^ Not exactly this one, but one of the several proposals presented to Azerbaijani side. The opened to public ones you see here are not the only and the best options. Let's wait a bit and we gonna see the winning project. This gonna be a modular type of arena for some 20 000 people.

Yes, they did and it is under construction. Unfortunately, I am not a big fan of the chosen project but they promise it gonna look better than on renders. Let's wait and see

This is a question we also raise up all the time. The oldest trains of Baku are from early 2000 and some of them were bought even in 2010-2011. Another question is models of those trains. We buy them from Russian factories producing old-stylish trains, models of 70-80th :down:

Экономические показатели
По данным Госкомстата, по итогам января-сентября 2010 года ВВП Азербайджана вырос по сравнению с аналогичным показателем прошлого года на 4,1% (1,2 млрд. долларов). Показатель ВВП составил 36,5 млрд. долларов, из которых на сектор строительства приходится 2,5 млрд. долларов (7,1%).

За январь-август 2010 года из внешних финансовых источников в развитие экономической сферы Азербайджана вложено 6,5 млрд. долларов, что на 34,9% больше инвестиционных вложений в основной капитал за аналогичный период прошлого года. В 2011 году инвестиции в экономику прогнозируются в объеме 14,2 млрд. долларов, увеличившись на 17% по отношению к 2010 году. В последующие три года капиталовложения в азербайджанскую экономику составят 46 млрд. долларов. Зарубежные инвестиции в 2011 году ожидаются на уровне 5 млрд. долларов, а в последующие три года их объем вырастет в среднем на 10,6%, достигнув 19,9 млрд.
долларов.

Во внешнеторговом обороте республики со 135 страны отмечается рост экспортных и импортных операций. По сравнению с 2009 годом объем экспорта увеличился на 62,46% (16 млрд. долларов). В структуре внешнеторгового оборота 12 млрд. долларов составил экспорт. Объем импорта увеличился на 4,11% (4 млрд. долларов). За рассматриваемый период показатель экспорта превысил показатель импорта, положительного сальдо составило 9,9 млрд. долларов.

Строительный комплекс
За последние 10 лет отмечается высокий темп развития строительного сектора, за это время было построено сотни жилых зданий и сдано в эксплуатацию более 112 000 квартир. Количество компаний, занятых в строительной индустрии превышает 300. В 2009 году было сдано в эксплуатацию 1 560 000 кв м жилого массива.

В январе-апреле 2010 года в Азербайджане было осуществлено строительных работ на 1,2 млрд. долларов. Из общего объема строительных работ 840,6 млрд. долларов приходится на первичное малоэтажное строительство, реконструкцию и расширение, 228,1 млн. долларов - капитальный ремонт, 69,2 млн. долларов - текущий ремонт, 55,9 млн. долларов - на другие строительные работы.

Общая площадь жилых домов, сданных в Азербайджане в эксплуатацию в течение января-апреля 2010 года, составила 413,4 тысячи квадратных метров, что на 13,7% больше, чем за аналогичный период прошлого года. В строительство производственных объектов вложено 1,4 млрд. долларов, в строительство объектов в сфере услуг инвестировано 1,4 млрд. долларов.

Общий объем инвестиций в основной капитал составил 2,85 млрд. долларов, увеличившись за год на 5,5%. Из основных средств расходы на строительно-монтажные работы составили 1,97 млрд. долларов, или на 4,7% больше, чем в январе-апреле 2009 года.

• В Азербайджане идет активное дорожное строительство в рамках проектов «Шелковый путь» и «Север-Юг». Планируется открытие бакинской кольцевой дороги, стоимость проекта составляет 49,5 млн. долларов и включает 4 развязки и 6 путепроводов.
• В рамках второй государственной программы социально-экономического развития регионов на период с 2009 по 2013 гг., в регионах строятся и реконструируются медицинские учреждения, учебные заведения, отели, а также производственные объекты и т.д.
• Реализуются проекты «Улучшения водоснабжения и канализации», «Улучшения электропередачи»; строятся жилые массивы в пригородах столицы, тем самым расширяя границы столицы города Баку.
• В Баку начаты реконструкция и строительство Черного города в рамках проекта «Baku White City», который разместится на территории 221 га; 10 кварталов различной архитектуры; 50 000 жителей; общая площадь застройки более 4,0 млн. кв м; 20 000 жилых и коммерческих объектов; 40 000 парковочных мест; 39 га ландшафта.

Baku Crystal Hall - Under Construction

The shape of Baku Crystal Hall will be very similar to these sport venues proposed for Universiade 2011 in Chinese city of Shenzhen.

The difference of Baku Crystal Hall is that it will have a roof and the crystal-shape facade part will not be made out of glass but a special metal material. Further, there gonna be a smaller hall for the representatives of media to build right next to the main venue.

By and large our arena will be very similar to the ones proposed for Universiade 2011 in Shenzhen.

Never ever heard of Baku.
Don't know Azerbaijan, thought it was undeveloped like rural Afghanistan.

I was wrong, learning something everyday.
My compliments to Baku.

Afghanistan is underdeveloped, simply because of it's unstable government and the on-going war. If a stable government and peace come, then perhaps one can see similar developments in it's capital Kabul in say 10-20 years time.

The Azerbaijan Hockey Federation and the Azerbaijan Wrestling Federation appointed Arup to develop a feasibility study for the master planning of a 27ha site, which will include a hockey stadium and training facilities, wrestling arena, hotel, offices and public outdoor space.

Current state of the project:

All conceptual design works are completed, approved and ready for construction work. Currently, preparation work for the reinforcement of soil foundation is under way.

Investment volume of the project:

Approx. 160 mln USD

Involved companies:

- Yeni Hayat Construction Co.

Baku City Project

A vision developed by ARUP, the Baku City project is aimed at overcoming the contamination caused by the oil industry and re-shaping city profiles across the Caspian region. Serving as a blueprint for urban living, the project is designed to be a model for post-oil-industry cities and to capitalize on the strategic cultural influence of Baku throughout the region.

Current state of the project:

The first stage, the conceptual design by ARUP, is completed and currently awaiting approval from the Azerbaijan government. Once the project is approved, financing and detailed project planning for each of the seven different zones will be put in place.

Investment volume of the project:

Long-term project with a total investment volume of more than 3 billion GBP.

November 1st, 2011
President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev has inspected today the course of reconstruction works in the area called “Mini Venice” at the Baku Boulevard.

The Head of State saw stands reflecting future views of “Mini Venice” which covers 9740 square meters. The reconstruction work in the area started in June this year.

Six bridges and a tunnel will be built in the area. President Aliyev was informed about the ongoing reconstruction works in the buildings of “Sherg” and “Italy” restaurants.

The critical role of zoos and aquariums within conservation is more important than ever. Zoos and aquariums are in a unique position; that of providing conservation in a genuinely integrated way. Caspiana Nature World has the mission for being a part of this conservation network with high standards of environmental responsibility. The park aims sustainable use and conservation of natural resources and conservation of endemic and threatened species in the wild and in exhibition targeting environmental friendly life with the planning that respects visitors and animals. There will be 9 main exhibit zones, 80 different exhibits, 224 different species and 1518 individual animal in that `Green Complex` in which all the architectural features and infrastructure systems are designed according to sustainability principals.

Beneficiary: The Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of the Republic of Azerbaijan

Period: 2010 - ongoing

Summary: Azerbaijan Zoological Park Complex named as CASPIANA NATURE WORLD is located at 550.000 m² area 20 km close to Baku. The park aims sustainable use and conservation of natural resources, endemic and threatened species both in the wild and in the zoo exhibits. Azerbaijan National Parks’, national cultural and natural values, native fauna and flora species and full compatibility with EAZA standards are the main focuses of the Caspiana Nature World.

I don't know how it's supposed to look when built, but I LOVE how Baku is trying to densify its cites building classic revival... very suiting and adds alot to the urban feel of Baku... keep on going! :cheers:

They do. Baku Olympic Stadium as well as Gymnastics Arena are being built near that place :)
