In this thread we are going to put together all the UNDER CONSTRUCTION and APPROVED projects of Baku:

FULL MOON RISING and CRESCENT TOWER - APPROVED

Heerim Architects has attempted to reinvent the skyscraper beyond the traditional with two lunar inspired projects in the Republic of Azerbaijan.

The Korean firm has dreamed up Full Moon Bay and Caspian Plus that includes Crescent Place on neighbouring peninsulas in the Azerbaijani capital of Baku that look on to the Caspian Sea - the two projects on opposite extremes of the same bay acting as gateway markers.

Hotel Full Moon is essentially a disc with rounded edges and a hole in one of the top corners that appears radically different to the view depending on the angle it is seen from. The frontage thanks to the bulging centre makes it appear more like a glass death star whilst the side profile is more than a little gherkinesque.

Changing appearance depending on the view is reinforced by the cladding treatment the architect has selected. The front will have a glass diagrid whilst the back will be covered with hexagonal honeycombs.

This main building will be a 35 storey luxury hotel with 104,182 square metres of space for only 382 rooms, a relatively small amount of rooms given the sheer size of the internal space on offer. It will reach a maximum height of 158.68 metres.

The hotel is linked via a zoomorphically shaped podium that snakes curvaceously around the boundaries of the site to two residential apartment blocks entitled Palace of Wind 1 and 2.

Acting as the counterpoint to Hotel Full Moon is Hotel Crescent, part of the Caspian Plus redevelopment that stands as a curving arch similar to a crescent moon. The arch-like nature of the building is revealed by the fact that the structure isn't a pure crescent on its inside relying on more regularly shaped columns to help provide it with support.

At 32 floors tall it will also be a luxury hotel, this time with 221 rooms. There will also be 128 serviced apartments in the building. Floor space will 128,140 square metres.

Behind it will stand a further four tall buildings, three of which will be residential with the tallest of the quartet being a 43 floor office building standing 203 metres tall.

Heerim Architects have not long been established in Azerbaijan. They only opened their office in the country in July 2007 and yet have already secured these two major projects that face transforming the capital of one of the world's fastest growing economies.

SKY PARK - UNDER CONSTRUCTION

Sky Park is consist of 4 skyscrapers (two of the skyscrapers seem like the separated, but according to the project they will be the unique buildings) and a shopping mall.
The highest skyscraper will be 240m height 56-storey residential.

PARK PLAZA - ON HOLD

Park Plaza is a project developed by korean GS Engineering & Construction Company Ltd. The project consist of 2 towers and a huge mall between them. Construction works have begun in 2007, but were on hold due to some financial problems.

SOCAR TOWER - APPROVED

Heerim Architects & Planners Co. Ltd. is to build a new skyscraper fot the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan. The building is slated to be 149.4 meters high, 59,102 sq. m and to accommodate more than 2,000 employees. The building will have 2 underground and 35 overhead floors. Construction works are expected to start in the mid 2008.

FLAME TOWERS - UNDER CONSTRUCTION

Baku Flame Towers is a new project of Diaholding http://www.diaholding.com striking new addition to the skyline of Baku. Inspired by Azerbaijan’s long history with fire worshipping, the towers will be an eternal flame for a modern Baku.

Located on the Caspian Sea in Azerbaijan, the site is situated on a hill overlooking Baku Bay, the old city center and the park. With a site area of approx 28,000 m2, the project brief requires the development of detailed drawings for 3 towers located on a retail podium. The total construction built up area of the project is 234,500 m2.

RESIDENTIAL TOWER

The southern tower accommodates some 130 residential apartments
over 33 floors.

HOTEL TOWER

The Hotel, the most programmatically complex of the Flame Towers, is sited on the northern corner of the site and it consists of 250 rooms and 61 serviced apartments. Construction area of Hotel Tower is 56.292 m2 and it has 30 floors. Besides its health and wellness units like spa and fitness centers; Hotel Tower also has dual function both for recreational and for business related gatherings. *

OFFICE TOWER

The Office Tower is sited on the western side of the complex, between the Hotel and Residential Towers. It provides net 33.114 m2 of flexible commercial office space. 28 floors are grouped together into 4 tiers with each one allocated a dramatic 25 meter atria above a communal Sky Garden.

The construction is anticipated to start October 2007 and will be due for completion in April 2010.

NEW LIFE CITY - UNDER CONSTRUCTION

MUGHAM THEATRE - UNDER CONSTRUCTION

Mugham also spelled as Mugam (Azeri: Muğam) is one of the many musical traditions of Azerbaijan. Mugham Theatre is under construction on the territory of Baku boulevard. Construction works are supported by UNESCO.

HEYDAR ALIYEV CULTURAL CENTER - UNDER CONSTRUCTION

Cultural center named after Heydar Aliyev is under construction at Heydar Aliyev avenue instead of demolished an old Sattarkhan's factory. This center includes: a big library, concert hall, conference center, park and other. Construction works are expected to be finished in 2009.

ENTRANCE TO BAKI SOVETI SUBWAY STATION IS UNDER RECONSTRUCTION

Right now only booming city is Baku...but soon Ganja and Lenkoran will boom too

They are pretty small cities, but they have constructions too. For example, there are some eighteen9-14-storey buildings under construction in Ganca, city have some rennovation projects, the construction of a new Ganca theatre and philarmonic will be started soon. So, not bad for 300 000 city.

Yeah i know, i am in aware of that project with the tower looking like a bullet, but i am not sure the project will be realized in this way. I think they could make some changes to it.

Besides, i got some information about Flame Towers. I was told that the current project of Flame Towers will be changed. There will be 3 over 30-storey towers, but a little different than those we see on these renderings.

All these projects does not reflect the Azerbaidjian architecture and backgroung imo they are like fake copies of montecarlo residences or some fishy crapy decorums of Dallas or Dynasty.... ^^

OMG go Baku! It wasn't a city even on my radar but recently it's seemed to burst on the seen - i luv the whole Moon and Flame buildings i think they will create a rememberable skyline and help Baku place itself well and truly on the world stage!

Er-Ryad looks like a huge warehouse! No architectural importance. Ugly.

Er-Riyad is 7 km fram from Baku on Baku-Sumgayit highway. It is not within the city territory. There are 2 more projects like similar to Er-riyad - Sadarak trade center and Bina trade center. Those two are much better than Er-riyad and will be situated in Lokbatan 5-6 km far from Baku.
Sadarak will be very modern trade and entertaiment center with delfinarium and sport facilities.

It is not approved. It is under construction and evemn has been under construiction when i have been to Baku :) It is between Baku circus and Blue Mosque

Turkish Aral Group Company Offers New Residential Complex Roseville in Baku

Aral Group, the largest Turkish building company, has, for the first time, renovated and furnished apartments in the residential complex Roseville in Baku, Tamer Peshtak, Director General of the company, stated in the presentation ceremony of the project on 29 April.

“The construction of the complex commenced in May 2007 and is expected to be completed by the second half of 2009,” Peshtak stated.

Roseville consists of 272 apartments measuring 90 to 454 sq.m. each. The apartments will be furnished with European, German and Turkish furniture. Roseville has 18 buildings. The area of the leisure complex (fitness club, sauna, body massage rooms, rest rooms and children rooms) is 1,066 sq. m. and the area of the swimming pool is 320 sq.m.

Peshtek stated that the apartments would be sold on credit conditions on a 1 to 5 year term through the local banks. From 30 April the company will be prepared to carry out the sale of the apartments

The average cost for an apartment in the complex is from $450,000 to $500,000.

Peshtek stated that materials meeting European standards were used in the construction of the complex. Azerbaijani and Turkish builders have been engaged in the construction of the complex.

“The residential complex is durable against earthquakes measuring 9 points on the Richter scale,” Peshtak stated.

FULL MOON RISING and CRESCENT TOWER - APPROVED

Heerim Architects has attempted to reinvent the skyscraper beyond the traditional with two lunar inspired projects in the Republic of Azerbaijan.

The Korean firm has dreamed up Full Moon Bay and Caspian Plus that includes Crescent Place on neighbouring peninsulas in the Azerbaijani capital of Baku that look on to the Caspian Sea - the two projects on opposite extremes of the same bay acting as gateway markers.

Hotel Full Moon is essentially a disc with rounded edges and a hole in one of the top corners that appears radically different to the view depending on the angle it is seen from. The frontage thanks to the bulging centre makes it appear more like a glass death star whilst the side profile is more than a little gherkinesque.

Changing appearance depending on the view is reinforced by the cladding treatment the architect has selected. The front will have a glass diagrid whilst the back will be covered with hexagonal honeycombs.

This main building will be a 35 storey luxury hotel with 104,182 square metres of space for only 382 rooms, a relatively small amount of rooms given the sheer size of the internal space on offer. It will reach a maximum height of 158.68 metres.

The hotel is linked via a zoomorphically shaped podium that snakes curvaceously around the boundaries of the site to two residential apartment blocks entitled Palace of Wind 1 and 2.

Acting as the counterpoint to Hotel Full Moon is Hotel Crescent, part of the Caspian Plus redevelopment that stands as a curving arch similar to a crescent moon. The arch-like nature of the building is revealed by the fact that the structure isn't a pure crescent on its inside relying on more regularly shaped columns to help provide it with support.

At 32 floors tall it will also be a luxury hotel, this time with 221 rooms. There will also be 128 serviced apartments in the building. Floor space will 128,140 square metres.

Behind it will stand a further four tall buildings, three of which will be residential with the tallest of the quartet being a 43 floor office building standing 203 metres tall.

Heerim Architects have not long been established in Azerbaijan. They only opened their office in the country in July 2007 and yet have already secured these two major projects that face transforming the capital of one of the world's fastest growing economies.

3 subway stations are under construction (1 of them will be opened in septebmer 2008), 5 bridges some underground and overground pedestrians are under construction, the first Baku ring highway is under construction, Baku-Airport main highway is under reconstruction, Baku-Qabala-Oguz water pipeline is under construction (will be opened in 2009), the old oil area of Bibi-Heybat and Keshla is being cleaned and some other projects i can't remember now.

I am not sure. It is right opposite to the Caspian Plaza; on the contrary, "Izmir" restaurant is in Izmir park, opposite to Hyatt Regency. Besides, i have seen a deep hole for the foundation of that building. Construction works are going on.

Azerbaijan to spend $700 million on construction of a skiing resort

Shahdagh Mountain Skiing Resort Project is estimated to spend $500 million to $700 million in Azerbaijan, said Abulfaz Garayev, Minister of Culture and Tourism
"Exploration activities are under way at the site. About 60 exploration wells have been drilled. The project is at the final stage of preparation and we are setting up management, promotion and advertising companies. We should now calculate the commercial expectations for 1 to 5 years. Foreign experts will also travel to Azerbaijan on October 10,” he added.

He added that public investment will only be limited to establishment of infrastructure and lifts while the contest winner investor will finance construction of hotels, catering, entertainment and other facilities. Government funds of $50 million will probably be allocated for the project. The construction of escalators will start on April-May 2008.

Having completed several projects in Ukraine, Kazakhstan and Qatar, 2Design, one of Kempinski's top six architectural firms, launched a new project called “City Star” in Azerbaijani capital Baku.

The project, which includes a business center, an EXPO center, residential property and a shopping center, is to be constructed on an area of 250,000 square meters. Aral Group, a project development company operating in Baku, will complete the project's construction within three years.

Owned by the architects Murat Kader and Sema Eser Özsaruhan, 2Design initiated the project at the beginning of this year. With two 40-storey office towers, a four-storey shopping center and four residence blocks, two of them 28 storeys high and the other two 20 storeys, City Star will be one the highest buildings in Azerbaijan. The project, which is the first leg of a 6-hectare city plan, includes a swimming pool, a tennis court and an education and entertainment complex besides business offices and residences, while the second leg will consist of a hotel, offices and residential housing.

This is great to hear. I like Zaha Hadid's design of Dubai Opera House and our Cultural Center is quite similar in design, but larger. Cultural Center and Sky Park are my favorite projects in town. Can't wait to see them completed. :)

It is a very serious project. I think they will start the full work very soon. They have already started the advertisment of this project on the big posters, magazines.. and even on some cars (i think the cars of Azkor).

I am not sure about namely this project, but i know about the project of Baku boulevard. A+A Group of Companies is working on this project and they are going to start the work soon.

Realization of project of constructing skyscrapers initiated by Kovsar Bank has been launched in Baku.


Kovsar Bank Chairman Heydar Ibrahimov said construction has been launched by Korea.

“They’ve raised $300 million from Korean banks. Total area of erected complex consisting of 39-storeyed towers will come to 170,000 sq.m,” H.Ibrahimov said.

In the foundation the towers will be joined by 8-storeyed office basis.

“Construction will take three years and seven months. Kovsar Bank’s stake in the project is minimal. Islamic Corporation for Development of Private Sector, which allocated $5 million for the project, when it had another configuration, is ready to renew decision and finance a new project. We will do it if it’s necessary,” H.Ibrahimov said.

The total area of twins is supposed to be sold for offices and apartments.

“The complex will be managed by Baku Pride Company founded by Korea in the person of Baku Pride with minimal stake of a local partner, approximate to Kovsar Bank,” H.Ibrahimov said.

The construction is conducted by specially hired Korean construction company.

Minister of Transport Ziya Mammadov informed that the blueprint of a highway that will join the regions of Guba and Shamakhi will be ready in a few months. Mammadov added that the project is slated to commence in 2009 and be completed in 2011.

Baku subway to expand to 70 stations

The Government expects to expand the Baku subway network to 70 stations by 2040. Presently construction works are carried out in the northern direction, but more expansion and constructions works are under way. Pending Presidential approval, the Government expects the expansion project to help the subway network to conform to modern international standards.

Feasibility study for Baku Bay Sea Bridge Project to be sent to Government

The 14.5km-long shortcut bridge from Shix Settlement to Zigh Settlement over the Caspian Sea is expected to cost about $1 billion in investment.

South Korea’s "Dong Sung Engineering will" soon submit to the Government of Azerbaijan the feasibility study for the proposed Baku Bay Sea Bridge Project, Officer of Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Transport Sadraddin Mammadov said.

He added that Korean specialists are working on the presentation of the project at present.
“The design, structure, technical capacity and other parameters will be unveiled in the resentation. The project design will be re-developed on the basis of our remarks and comments after the presentation. The final decision on the construction of this bridge may be reached after that,” he added.

The construction work is slated for completion in 2015.

BAKU TOWER - This is a new project for me, because i have never even heard about it before. I hope it will be realized, so far i have no idea where is its proposed location.


FLAME TOWERS - The under construction three towers and mall called Flame Towers are constructed by Dia Holding http://www.diaholding.com Unfortunately, the renderings that we see on Dia's site are too old and not exactly the same in all the pictures. So i am waiting for somethn different that the towers in Dia's pictures.
As for those pictures of Baku Center think it is just an alternative to the project of Flame Towers and it is possible that the towers will be like in the picture of Baku Center rather than in the pics of Flame Towers.

PARK PLAZA BAKU - This name of Xi Park Plaza is official for that project. Some works for Park Plaza have been already done, but the works has been on hold since winter 2008. A few days ago i have seen some machines and workers on that territory. I suppose they are going torestart the work on eection of Park Plaza Baku. The picture of Park Plaza on the site of Tito is a little different than the project we used to know. But the conceptin is te same (2 towers and mall).

The Full Moon Rising is absolutely stunning. Baku is rising fast. Hopefully it can diversify off oil and into finances because that area needs a financial center.

I know about the expanding of the road and the construction of the tonnel next to the mall. Let's see it after they finish the erection.

There is a big hole on the construction site of this project. I can't imagine so many buildings at the same time, because the territory is quiet small. Bu the hole is very deep, i think the tower is for 100%

ok ill try to answer to ur questions
1) about the real time of finishin>>> really don even know... maybe second answer will give u more info...

2) Actually works at this area beagn from 2005.. why its slow?? cz there not one reason...
1st reason is that this project changed several times... at least 4 times... at last they approved design of 2Design
2nd there were some financial problems... not beacause they dont have money.. they have but as a big construction company we have many Constructions so we have to end all our works to begin this project cz this is da biggest project ever.. n think in 2 month ull c here smsn
3rd its about the foundation ... itsnt just digging.. as u know its near the sea so we r tryn to make the foundation more safe n using last tecnology in its piles... dont ask me which??? cz i just heard about it.. n know that its tooo expensive...

Aral Group is finishing the other projects - Esra Plaza, Babek Plaza, "Roseville" residential complex and the only project left is "City Star". Besides i have an interesting news from DIA HOLDING. For those who are interested in their project i advice to enter to their website http://www.diaholding.com They have some new interesting projects. They have fixed the shape of the Pearl hotel. It is much better now. Another interesting project is the high-rise office tower. The shape of this tower is very similar to Empire State Building in NYC.

I would like to outline that the things you wrote have nothing to do with this thread. Azerbaijan is Azerbaijan, azerbaijanies are azerbaijanies. I don't care about being european. We have some european influence and that is the fact. By and large, I am azerbaijani and that is the point!
