Why didn't they replace the old stadium (there's also no mass transport system in the immediate vicinity or at least I didn't found it, when I was there but they wouldn't consume so much land)?

Lviv old city.Building new stadium in downtown, or in the city would have caused traffic jams during matches. The city has no broad highways.

Робота кипить. Купа робітників, особливо на медіацентрі і довкола стадіону. Заливали пандус, біля південно-східного кута встановлюють бордюри майбутніх доріг, по лінії вздовж східної стибуни прокладають труби (тільки не знаю це каналізація, чи водопровід з стрийського водозабору)...

note that they bet 1.33 to 3, so they don't really believe it won't be finished by then. I think the proportion would be different with Lviv. I officially bet 20:1 that Lviv won't be finished by Christmas :lol:

Lviv is scheduled to be finished in 4 months, what do you want from it? 4 months ago Gdansk also didn't look too ready to me and depending on how you select photos you could easily find some showing people that aren't in any sort of a rush in Gdansk as well. I've been checking Lviv updated regularily for the last 3 years (almost) and now I can finally say the pace is decent, stadium taking shape every day.

By the way - Narodowy is behind not because of the stairs only, and it's to be ready 5 months behind schedule, while stairs are to take only 3 months to correct.

Is Lviv still on schedule? If i compare the Polish stadiums with the Ukrainian ones then i think that in Kiev en Lviv a lot of things still need to be done!
This is the smallest stadium but if it will look like the initial designs it will be a nice one!

Exactly, but this one is known by this name since the very start of planning or even before, when Lviv was actually planning to put Stadion Ukraina as host venue. And so it stayed like this.

How's it going folks? I only got to see the aerial photos of the stadium and its surroundings now (http://www.skyscrapercity.com/showpost.php?p=76475227&postcount=503) and must say it looks very nice and fits into the landscape well. I personally prefer stadia located in the suburbs, with a sense of space around. However, the other side of the picture is that such stadia probably need much more investments in the infrastructure (e.g. railway link), so as to ensure smooth connection with the city center.

Also, fair play to the lads for speeding up the building works' progress. I saw a review of the preparation status of all cities back in June (1 year before the cup) and the situation at Lviv stadium looked far from perfect, however I can notice a decent progress since.

Again, very nice stadium altogether.

Yeah, apart from the fact that it's not. Senior Ukrainian organizers insist and I think even a minister said that this stadium was not even for a moment called 'Stadion Ukrayina' - this was a mixup because that's what they initially wrote in the bidding documents and was later spread. A we all know Stadion Ukrayina is a completely different venue in another part of the ever so beautiful city. It's name for now (at project stage) is Arena Lviv and the final name will be chosen at the end of this year I think.

Name of stadium will be sold.
During Euro2012 stadium will called just Stadium of Lviv(or similar name)
In web flashed name "Tuborg Lviv Arena",but it's not fact

not at all...in fact, red and black seats would have been more of a political statement,

As for cost cutting - sounds absurd when you look at how much these stadiums have cost. I mean both Kyiv and Lviv are horribly expensive and to what I read in Ukrainian press a lot of the money has bee eaten by bureaucracy and corruption.

as a rational person, i have to believe that rational human beings would probably consider the cost of acquiring the same seat and color model (as opposed to, say, just different color) to be less expensive....just like buying wholesale....even if the savings are passed on in terms of kickbacks...though i say that with a great degree of skepticism, and understanding that the stereotypes will still be apart of any such discussion for a long time...

it also makes sense why they would decide to go with a team-neutral color scheme....considering that this stadium along with kyiv's olympic stadium (and a few other arenas in other sports) all belong to the same government sport and entertainment concern

With all due respect, I think you're getting the situation a bit wrong. The sense of entitlement is 100% correct as Karpaty is simply the only tenant in Lviv who can use this stadium at all. Their position may be seen as too comfortable, but that's how it was from the begining - they always were the only institution that might guarantee this stadium's feasability. If you (govt - in Poland they did that with national stadium) build a stadium and have no tenant for it, it makes you look like a moron, not the tenant who may choose between the not-so-bad Stadion Ukraiyna in the city and the new one in the middle of nowhere. Karpaty may have one of top attendances, but they still use less than half of their 30k stadium, so moving out of the city may indeed be costly for them. That's just like clubs in South Africa did - they have no interest in renting expensive new stadiums on a daily basis if their needs are well catered in the smaller ones. Ask how many clubs in Poland have had any stake in their Euro 2012 stadiums? The answer is NONE. It's all municipal/governemental spending and noone makes a fuss about it. It was clear from the start that clubs are the ones to benefit from new gorunds and authorities will have to pretend they like it.

Current stadium of FK Lviv has capacity of just over 3000. Do you think that anything would justify moving to a ten times bigger venue? Only Karpaty would be able to fill the new stadium, FK wouldn't.

Let me preface this by saying that I'm a Karpaty fan...

...but, the reason FC Lviv are playing in Dobromyl in a 3000 seat stadium is not because they can't draw more, but because they can't play at Ukraina. In fact, if you look at the statistics for the 2008-2009 UPL season, through the winter break FK Lviv actually drew more fans than Karpaty!

It was at that point that Dyminsky simply had enough and kicked them to the curb. That resulted in FC Lviv playing the rest of the season's home games in 3 different stadiums, and eventually needing a point on the final match day away to Karpaty to survive relegation. Unfortunately they lost, but in return for Karpaty's winning efforts, 20000 fans booed and whistled the Karpaty players off the field.

The point of this post is to show that if FC Lviv can make it back to the premier league, they can draw very well, in Lviv. And to be honest, based on location, FC Lviv playing at Ukraina would likely outdraw Karpaty playing in this new stadium.

You do realize that in stadium-code (by fans) showing colours upside-down is a sign of disrespect? Or in fact showing them upside-down on any occaion sounds like a really bad idea. Especially in a city with that much connection to these colours...

Maybe you wouldn't mind, but I can assure you for a mass of people this is crucially important and cannot be upside down. I mean both national colours and club colours especially in a place like Lviv with so much importance given to nationality, though I understand FK Lviv fans would enjoy seeing Karpaty's colours upside down (of course we're not discussing these now, only national).

OK, can anyone enlighten me why on earth couldn't they accept the fact that they FAILED to deliver the venue on time (not the first one for 2012, really)? Postponing the opening for a few weeks would do that much harm and opening a construction site is ok?

I hope noone from Lviv will take offence from this, because I love the place. Just cannot follow the logics behind this event. When you open something, you do it when it's ready. Or at least operable. Today in Lviv most systems won't work including stuff as basic as toilets, not to mention ID/CCTV, final catering and lighting systems. It's still a mess.

no, the roof according to the project is not flat but has multiple facets on the top and hence the curvature of the lines.

depends on how you specify completeness. It is hard to derive the critieria from the stadiums already moved to that section. It has already hosted 2 official games, including an international match. Thus, operationally it is ready. Some final touches are being added to the facade/exterior.

Also, he did not say anything about Warsaw arena being complete, so dragging it in as a comparison wasn't up to the point. Because I'm informed enough to say that it isn't complete, why would I need to be Ukrainian to say so? One can live in the very outskirts of Lviv with the ground outdside his window and not give a sh.t and one can live 300km away like me and care about what stage this stadium is in.

And if you have a problem with National Stadium being in the completed section (I definately agree it's faaaaaar from ready), go talk about it with people who are responsible for it and not drag me into this as I obviously had nothing to do with it. I did mean nothing bad, I never felt negative about Ukraine's part of the bid and am a huge fan of Lviv as one of the most charming places on earth, but let's just keep a safe distance to it. This stadium is still not ready and thanks to that status we'll be able to see construction updates here neither than bizarrily looking for them in the completed section.
