View Full Version : Romanian Subforum Main Language

By the time Singidunum, 3tmk and Matthieu are done with moving the threads and reorganizing Euroscrapers I want us to get some things straight so that there's no arguing afterwards.

One of these things is the main language we'll be using on the Romanian subforum. Unlike on EE/Balkans we are now free to use Romanian not just on nebuniile nebunului, but on any threads.

My question to you is: what will the main language be? Romanian or English? For example, Fórum Português (http://www.skyscrapercity.com/forumdisplay.php?f=323) uses Portuguese as main language, while Turkey (http://www.skyscrapercity.com/forumdisplay.php?f=488) uses English.

Do we want to have a somewhat enclosed community, accessible only to those that speak Romanian, while posting in English only on the generalist forums or do we want to keep the international feeling of EE/Balkans by using English, which is accessible to the majority of forumers here?

If we go for RO-only we might get more members, mind you.;)

Well, you know my opinion about this (EN-only with an off-topic, RO-only thread) so start voting!:gunz:

I think we should stick to English, but not condemn anybody for using Romanian.

I voted for english also but, please, no warnings for those using romanian.

No warnings, of course, but we should remind them that if they can properly write in English, then it's better they do it. Otherwise, better stick with Romanian.:)

Certainly we should stick with english if we want our threads to remain interesting.
Congrats Cosmin for being promoted. You deserve it

voted english.
Now that we have our own section, we shouldn't try to isolate ourselves from the other guys... and writing in romanian would do just that :(
Now i hope the fellows from the other countries will reach the same conclusion and write in english on their forums

Bulgarians might go for a bilingual approach as far as I can see.

Just in case if you're interested, after we switched to using local languages in Urban Ukraine we had some x30 increase in amount of members.

Congrats on your subforum

I vote for EN on all threads, except for the Crazy stuff of the Lunatic here (Nebunul). This way our neighbours and others will be able to check our posts. Same way, I would be glad to be able to read our Bulgarian neighbours posts. Exceptionally, for people who cannot write well in En, they could write in Ro on all threads. But this should only be an exception. :)

Talk to you soon.

I doubt people interested in things found on this forum don't know english :)
Maybe they don't know specific terminology, but a conversation-level english is not much...

I really like the structure of the Slovakian section:

Projects and constructions
Infrastructure
Your Cities
Bratislava

The projects and construction category is here also.
But i like more the Your cities name, rather than the Photography name. It allows more...

Also, we could make the subforum for Bucharest and include some nice thematic presentations on different topics [culture, historical monuments, different kinds of facilities (stadiums, sports arenas) and whatever other ideas people come up with] ...

By using english we'll have an advantage over all the other stuck up countries, no one wants to visit a forum that they don't understand.I'll give you an example .How many of you visit the polish forum that's in polish, I for one I've been there once and never again, couse I can't understand anything.

Putem sa vorbim romaneste. But we will alienate the non-Romanian forumers who are interested in Romania and that is unfair. Also, we want as much outside interest in our country as possible. Think of it as us contributing to our FDI and economy :)

^^ excellent point.

Ok, with 80% for using English and just 20% for Romanian out of 41 votes, I think the poll is pretty conclusive and we don't need it anymore.
