I do hope no one minds my intruding upon your forums, but I wondered if anyone was interested in seeing this marvelous temple: BAPS Shri Swaminarayan Mandir, that was opened in Toronto last summer? It was my first visit yesterday, and I was bowled over by the magnificence of the structure... truly a credit to the Indo-Canadian community! I hope you will all have a look at my pictures, and I invite you all to leave a message for me in my photothread! Greetings from Canada! here is a link to my photothread:

All BAPS temple looks the same...but this one is authentic with the wooden entrance.
Yeah, I've noticed that BAPS temples in India have quite a variety of form and design, very organic and pleasing to the eye. But the ones in London, Toronto, Chicago, Atlanta, etc. are all variations on the same theme, and its hard to tell the difference between them, though the plot layout may be unique in each.

Very few temples in India look so similar, as all are individual expressions of devotion. I guess why change if you have a good thing... but still, would love to see a refreshing change in design.

Actually, if you look at the different temples in London, Chicago and Toronto, they are quite different in design and layout. Same materials, but different shapes, etc..... I believe the one in Atlanta is being built now, but am not sure about that.

Those are beautiful pictures!!

I was visiting your picture thread, and Toronto is a really beautiful city!! Consider this as one more addition to your great city!

As for the temple, its okay....I guess being in India, we're kinda used to seeing stuff like this.....though being spanking new and all-white-marble (which is unusual for a Hindu temple) does help to enhance its appeal.

You are absolutely right.. this is nothing new for people who live in India, but for us it is a real treat to have this in our city.. and there is a huge population here from India who are thrilled to have it to worship in. Last summer, in my picture thread, I did a wonderful photostudy of Little India, here in Toronto. I will do the same thing again this summer!
ps thanks to everyone who took the time to visit this little thread I created, and to contribute to
the conversation! It was much appreciated...

Nice work on covering Swaminarayan Mandir! Although I'm not Hindu, I can definitely appreciate this temple as an excellent addition to the Indian Community in Canada, and to Toronto itself.

I'd like to visit it some day, I had no idea it was so grand - similar to temples in India! It's a fantastic addition to Toronto's cultural montage as well as to the religious community of Canada.

I hear it's also a South Asian culture museum or something?

Beautiful pictures of the true beauty of Canada - its multiculturalism!

This is actually a very beautiful temple even more inside. I believe it is the largest temple in north america built at a cost of $40 million. The Prime Minister was Canada, Stephen Harper inagurated the temple which saw devotee's come from all over NA. There is a museum next to the temple and the some of the food you get there is the best ive ever had in Toronto, including the indian restaurants.
