Sir Habagat.. We're very grateful for your wonderful video. Effort na effort.. Thanks for sharing it with us. :okay:

Amo gid na ya kon isa kang "Wandering Soul". hehehe Gusto ko yang job ni Habgat, pa travel travel lang...but I want to travel around the world, not just Pinas.

gani man, anhon nalang ged namon kon waay kaw @Habagat? Baw gid..
Efforts are really appreciated! Pero sana, next time label everything about GES as "General Santos International Airport". Huwag naman yong "General Santos Airport" lang dahil it is officially categorized as International naman by no other than CAAP.

Kahadlukan usahay ang tech specs nga most people would find it unimportant in their lives pod. And also, you have mentioned regarding that "international" thingy to me on my first video, I acknowledged it, however you are again...too OC about it. I call Clark as Clark Airport. Pilots don't call it Diosdado Macapagal International Airport on their radio to radio conversations. Mao I made it simple to understand for an ordinary citizen. Unsay importance sa taga-Uhaw nga naa nakabutang diha nga international o wa. Pagkahibaw nila, airport nana. If naa international flight, eh di naa. If wa, wa. It is a request lang pod, salamat.

Kaya nga...better shrug it off and remove excess baggage in your life Jake. It is and will be an airport there. And some of the facts...they aren't just needed by an ordinary General or Pinoy like me. Not unless someone asked. What quite irked (or irritated) me is your insistence of using "international" on my videos--for the nth time. Paliwat-liwat. Jake, taas kaayo usaron ang "General Santos City International Airport." For many ordinary Generals and Filipinos, its simply "Gensan Airport" or "General Santos Airport." It doesn't remove its category being international just because it isn't called such. How about Changi Airport, Heathrow Airport, Chep Lap Kok Airport, Narita Airport? Aren't these international airports as well?

Thanks for appreciating Jake, but sometimes we need to shrug off some things just to make things easier, lighter to understand. I hope you understand my stand as well. Lets not repeat this as well, deal?

Anyway, I'll be posting some photos I took in Sox Blogfest 2.0 and some photos I took at Fish Port, Sarangani Highlands and Tuna Park. Wala ko kaayo naglagaw sa Gensan this time. Was a bit under the weather pod and it was a busy weekend for most of us.

Is building dams to deposit toxic wastes from mining activities the only way to deal with it? If nothing lasts forever then why do these mining firms build toxic waste dams that will accordingly "last forever"?

the mining firm should find another way. We cant afford to compromise our future.

Is there such thing as "Sustainable Mining"?

what can you say about this guys?

Is there any way that the waste water will be treated first before it will be disposed off to Padada river and end in Davao Gulf?
Are the toxic rock wastes deposited at the bottom of the dam gonna stay toxic forever?

The presentation would have been good and truthful except on the last part of it where it is so misleading and very inciting. Please refer to the photo capture below which is part of the video:
http://i.imgur.com/PTwrw.jpg
In this photo, it shows the path of catastrophe should a fail happen with the dam. The projected path is so misleading. Uber uber tana ka exaggerated. Thats why I call it inciting kay kun makita mo, daw ma wild ka gid sa ka-akig. :bash::bash:

I actually worry about Davao del Sur province and the town of Tampakan. A huge forest reserve area will also be destroyed once the works at the open pit and the dams commence. :ohno:

Labangal po kasi doon ito nararapat. mayroon naman tayong mga puj's na may biyaheng lagao-calumpang and v.v....pwedeng pwede yun sakyan. oks ba? hehehe

Besides, Lagao has a Public Market of its own...Ganun din ang Purok Malakas...remember?

Eto po yung ibig kong sabihin na location sa Labangal for the new city public market.

If there is one place in GenSan City that is best for 5-star hotels, condominiums and corporate towers to rise, that is at along P. Acharon Boulevard facing THE BAY.. Only if the city government can develop further the queen tuna park. This place has so much potential indeed. How I wish our city government officials have the same vision as I have for GenSan City...sa halip sana na nagpu-pulitikahan ay magka-isa para maabot natin ang ganitong kagandang Gensan. :bash:

Ang buong akala siguro nila ay lalong gumaganda at gumuguwapo sila kapag nagbabangayan at nagpupulitikahan in front of TV and Radio.

With having highrise condominiums instead of sprawling subdivisions, we can save the city's farmlands to sustain us with our daily fresh produce needs.

:bash:

Ang kulang sa mga opisyales natin ngayon ay ang vision. ang vision kasi ay ang magsisilbing guiding star eh...nakatutok lang tayo lagi sa good governance...wala naman tayong direksyon. ang nangyayari ngayon ay we just go with the flow...which should not be the case! :ohno:

For those who are interested about the roots of the foundation of General Santos City and the rest of South Cotabato, this is a must read. It may be anthropological in approach but reading it would know your roots, as a General, what is a "Pioneer" and why here? A part of history of the Pioneer Settlements in Koronadal Valley and National Land Settlement Administration under General Paulino Santos, the lives of the Pioneers and the reasons why Mindanao became "A Land of Promise." This was written just as the World War 2 was about to be finished in the Philippines.

PIONEER SETTLEMENT IN THE ASIATIC TROPICS: Studies in Land Utilization and Agricultural Colonization in Southeastern Asia by KARL J.PELZER of The Johns Hopkins University, 1945. (http://ia600308.us.archive.org/29/items/pioneersettlemen033456mbp/pioneersettlemen033456mbp.pdf)

By then you should take the ferry boat ride to and from GenSan. At least somehow you could really get the feel of how the first settlers moved to this place from Luzon and the Visayas region. :okay:

Tapos lets pray na sana matuloy na talaga ang regular GES-ILO-GES air route in the nearest future. :) Kawawa talaga mga senior citizens now, they have to endure traveling 3-4 hours to take a flight. :ohno:

Been there, done that--thesis days. The only thing I couldn't replicate now is traveling from Cotabato City to Tacurong via lancha at Rio Grande de Mindanao and Liguasan Marsh. Alam naman natin how vulnerable that area is now, as compared to the days of the Pioneers.

And that God-willing thingy, I just hoping "resettling" there for good.

Korek ka gid Habagat! Mas reliaable pa ang transportation dira Marbel-Gensan-Davao area, and even Marbel-Sultan Kudarat. Thanks to Yellow Bus. Travel time via Marbel-Gensan only takes less than an hour even its 58 kilometers. It will be a tragedy, or a suicide to that effect, if LTFRB is successful to cancel YBL's franchise because of the alleged involvement of YBL to traffic accidents/deaths.

Baw diri sa Manila, you have to wake early to travel to your destination even though it is just a few kilometers from your base.

That's the problem with having semi-monopoly though, if one company is affected, it'll affect the entire economy of a city or a province. However, LTFRB should be considerate on how much the economic impact would be if Yellow Bus get suspended. Holiday, Husky and the L300 vans cannot absorb the affected passenger market.

What time do you leave? Usually, DVO-GES vv is filled to the brim on Friday afternoons, Sunday evenings, Monday mornings. It corresponds to the usual normal rush hours.

However, when it comes to Gensan-Marbel route, especially during rush hours...Bulaong is NOT the place to be for YBL.

With the horrifying tragedy in Northern Mindanao, Mindanaoans Beware, you, your loved ones and your family are now on dangerous ground with these:

flashback article August, 2011

Coal plants crowd out Mindanao's green energy (http://www.sunstar.com.ph/manila/local-news/2011/08/20/coal-plants-crowd-out-mindanaos-green-energy-174137)

FIVE coal power plants to be built in Mindanao are expected to leave no room for renewable energy (RE) ventures in the near future, a global environmental group said.

These facilities, needed to supply energy to mines, cement factories, and shipyards, threaten the environment and the public health of communities as well, Greenpeace said.

Another cause for worry is that mine sites are also militarized, all of which further fuel social conflict in the area, Greenpeace said.

As an alternative, Greenpeace proposed that the government immediately draw up plans for the massive deployment in Mindanao of renewable energy projects, which are more sustainable, compared to fossil fuels.

According to its report, “The Philippine Energy [R]evolution Roadmap to 2020”, as much as 80 percent of the energy requirements in Mindanao by 2020 can be met by renewable energy sources.

These include power sources such as wind, geothermal and solar, which are abundant in the area.

But these plans may take a while before being implemented.

A 200-megawatt project in Maasim, Sarangani is being proposed to be constructed. However, it threatens the rich Tinoto-Tampuan coral reef, which is now a protected area, the group said.

Other coal power projects set to be put up in Mindanao are the Aboitiz group’s 300-megawatt plant in Davao City; the 100-MW plant in Zamboanga City; the 300-MW plant by San Miguel Corp. in General Santos City, and the 500-MW by Sagittarius Mines Inc. in Malalag, Davao del Sur.

Burning coal also accelerates climate change effects in places like the Philippines, arguably one of the world’s most vulnerable and least prepared to deal with climate change, the group said.

Energy Undersecretary Jay Layug declined to comment on the matter as of this posting Friday. (Virgil Lopez/Sunnex)

meron ding mga resorts sa lake Sebu. They have hotel rooms as well. Ang napuntahan ko na is Punta Isla resort and Estares resort.

From gensan city, sakay ka ng bus for koronadal city. then from koronadal city may mga jeep or habal habal na papuntang t'boli town where lake sebu is. just ask the koronadal townsfolk where the terminal for t'boli town is. :)

When I went there for the first time, we rented a van from gensan to t'boli and vice versa. :)

Oh our visitor might get lost!:bash::bash::bash: :lol::lol:T'boli is diferent municipality from Lake Sebu, it has different route as well. If you are from Gensan take Yellow Bus to Marbel. Another Yellow Bus ride going to Surallah. From Surallah you can take jeepneys with the markings of Lake Sebu. There are jeepneys going to T'boli which will not take you to Lake Sebu. Better, take habal2x which comes in abundance along the national highway of Surallah just across RCBC and just beside a resto (forgot the name).

Oh my...Im sorry about that. Good thing you corrected it @Wageningen. The lake is actually situated in the town of Lake Sebu and not T'boli. :)
Or our visitor can as well make a side trip to the adjacent T'boli town then. Have a great time!

That's right! T'boli is just another exciting place to visit. Mt Parker and Lake Holon (formerly Maughan) is one of the hidden treasures of South Cotabato.:banana::banana:

Our 2012 Top 7 Predictions for GenSan

1. The establishment of a LONE CONGRESSIONAL DISTRICT for General Santos City. – This is long overdue considering that the total population of GenSan has already reached more than half a million already. But unless the National Government approves for publication the 2010 National Census figures, which will peg latest census figures at 600,000 and which will be a major basis for the re-alignment of the congressional districts of South Cotabato, this will have to wait. Hopefully, by the 4th quarter of 2012, our representative, Congressman Jun Acharon will be focusing on just the city alone.

2. The construction of Gokongwei’s GoHotel beside their Robinsons’ Place GenSan lot in Barangay Lagao. – With more and more conventions and large conferences being conducted in GenSan, the hotel boom will reach fever pitch this year with the entry of national players in the hotel industry, including GoHotel which will open its Tacloban branch this year. That only means that GenSan will be next.

3. The ground-breaking of the Mindanao Campus of University of Santo Tomas in Barangay Ligaya, General Santos City. Touted to be a full university and not just a college annexed under the UST Main Campus in Manila, UST General Santos will offer the same courses. This will give Mindanaoans full access to quality education under the tutelage of the Dominicans.

4. The expansion of the General Santos City Hospital and the improvement of its operations. – Health being at the forefront of the administration of Mayor Darlene Antonino Custodio, expect this one to materialize with the entry of Private-Public-Partnerships (PPP) in the operations of key departments in the City Hospital. Thus within the year, we shall witness the opening of the Dialysis Center that will drastically lower the costs of a dialysis procedure, PPP-initiated pharmacy and laboratory which will offer lower medicines and services, respectively; and additional beds with the opening up of the 2nd floor of the hostpital’s new building.

5. The commencement of the construction of the city’s Sanitary Landfill in Barangay Sinawal which hopefully can begin its operation by the end of the year or early 2013. This will further boost the city’s Garbage Disposal and Segregation Program which it is trying to strengthen among the generals. Cleaner city = healthier environment = mas Magandang GenSan!

6. The entry of more major players in GenSan, notably Ayala Land. - With Robinsons and SM here, can Ayala be far behind? This could either be by the Kastilaloy-owned company’s joining the now very competitive mall industry or through the still-very-open and lucrative mass housing business in the Home of Champions. Either way, we have received reports that Ayala has sent feelers to brokers to look for large tracts of lands in Barangay Lagao.

7. The privatization of the General Santos City Central Public Market. – As mentioned earlier, since the local government is keen on Private-Public-Partnerships, then the idea of pushing for the privatization of the GenSan Central Public Market should be put in the forefront. Reports have reached us that the SM group is keeping an eye on this possibility. If that happens in 2012, then we will soon have our very first air-conditioned MALLENGKE! Cool!

This is according to the predictions of Bariles.. na maaari talagang mangyari!
