And you mentioned Hill park residency (15 floors) as the highest point in Calicut. But Elizzium is having about 20 floors , isn't it?

thanx........ya hills park will be the highest point in calicut since it is goin to come up near civil station area which is a few meters above the sea level,but in the case of ellizium court,although it is 20 stories it is on the sea level,i mean near to beach road,so obiously hills park will be the highest point in calicut.Sudeesh since i am an Msc biotecnology student i dont get enough time to roam around in my place ie, Calicut,now i am at kothamangalam,but i am familiar wid every corner of my home city,if u r interested u can come to calicut,i would like to be ur host and a perfect guild to the city....one more thing i dont have a good camera!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!thanx 4 ur guidence,i wont use double IMG tag on either side of the image again........take care.....

I dont think, the so called hilton towers hav any link with the hilton group u mentioned sudeeshetta...its true that reliance hav acquired space there for reliance hypermarket....the works are on final stages and its a land mark already....

i am an archetect student i went there twice to its construction and i get the information that its name is hilton tower its just a shopping complex its lower floor have an escalator a boy in charge told me that lower 4 floors are for shopping and top are for offices and lodging .As sanjuchettan said, he told me that reliance have approched them to set an hypermarket there but he dont know any further movements.
one more think ,it is not a hilton international .Its owner is a malappuram team there are 2 partners and it is expecting that building should be compleated for august 2008

All of you guys just wait for its completion , whatever it may be the structure of the building is amazing :banana:

^^Hi Guys, I am just back after a few days, my induction just got over at Brigade, Bangalore.

The recent reorganisations were done by the Admins with the inputs of the mods. It will take some time to iron out all issues. It was an affair of several months and lots of discussions were done in a seperate thread in Chaibar.

From now onwards, this thread shall be having only Cityscape photos. The project news & perspectives will have to be posted in the Calicut thread in 'Kerala' folder under the South subforum. Hope you have seen Suncity's post there.

The reason why Trivandrum and Kochi have seperate sub forums are the number of big projects, highrises in the league of 20-40 floors, more volume of participation etc.

So far, the action at threads like Mysore, Chandigarh etc are close to zero. Also they are yet to see a 'HIGHRISE' too. Even many other metros doesnot have that much highrises that are coming up in Trivandrum or Kochi.

Standards of living is very high in kerala when u compare it wid other states in india..and one more important factor is the NRI money, another factor may be the higher land rates....which is compeling people to buy a flat in such projects...

How much is the highest fair value for land fixed at calicut? In Kannur its 6.25 lakhs/cent according to manorama. I think its much less than market value.

Anish....its very difficult to focus our camera completely on the building since its a crowded area and those shots where taken at high risk..usually i used to edit the picture before posting it...will try to do it next time....

Its not too late to recreate a pinetree area again on some parts of the beach. Also any progress on planting trees on the walkway? This whole stretch is fast becoming the upmarket residential area of Calicut city. Those old dilapidated buildings must be pulled down for a better look for the boulevard.

Mishkal Masjid, Kuttichira, is the oldest mosque in Kozhikode. It is named after the rich merchant who built it. A four-storeyed structure supported by wooden pillars, the mosque is a rare specimen of the architectural splendour of Kerala.

In 1510, the Portuguese burnt down some portions of it. Some charred portions still remain on the top floor of the mosque

Arijeet, ya, it is rather a broad classification. Anyway there is one more in Mumbai, Shreepati Arcade with 153 m height and 45 floors. We may also consider Belvedere Court, (149m), Four Seasons (146m) or Kalpataru Heights (144m).

LIC building may sometime just qualify as a highrise, not a skyscraper provided the floor-floor height is 4.5 m and there are 8 floors. I don't think most old commercial buildings would have 4.5 m, and if it is just 6-7 floors, its only a midrise.

yup.....there is....Ram Mohan road which connects two main commercial hubs of calicut, Mavoor road nd palayam is concrete...:)

And we hav centuries old concrete road made by britishers still in a good condition....at melepalayam.....

Sanju, I have seen you using the word skyscraper everywhere. I would say most context it is a misnomer. Preferably a Skyscraper shall be atleast 150m high (say a 50 floors residential building). Those more than 300m is a 'Super Tall'.

LIC building is just a midrise, not even a Highrise. What we have now in most cities of India are highrises, 12 floor or 35 metres. I believe there are no true skyscrapers in India other than that in Mumbai.

Arijeeth...i think height is the parameter which decides a building is a highrise or not...not the stories count...in that sence i think LIC Building can be considered as a skyscraper...since u hav lived in calicut u might hav passed lic building several times....wat do u think...:)

Its heavily build up underneath...its the speciality of kerala cities...:)

^^Normally you see a sea of match box type buildings in an aerial view of most indian cities. In Kerala, the low rise buildings, independant bungalows, houses etc would be hidden by the green canopy and you would see only the highrises popping their head out.:)

I was hunting for some information on Kochi as I will be shifting there next year (in Mumbai right now) and came across all the pictures you have posted on Calicut. I went through all the pics posted since early 2008 and have to say I am amazed by them. I had no idea Calicut was this good.
