@TJ & Arnold.

I strongly agree!

It's really a different feeling!

It's like from downtown(The Southwing) going to uptown(The Northwing), sudden change of ambience in just a few steps.

@Sinjin

Nice to meet you youngman...hehehe...take care of your health.

No wonder why SM Cebu's NORTHWING feels like SM Mall of Asia...Here's a related news released in one of our local dailies here in cebu last year, sometime July of 2006...

Monday, July 24, 2006
SM’s expansion wing to copy Mall of Asia
http://www.sunstar.com.ph/static/ceb/2006/07/24/bus/sm.s.expansion.wing.to.copy.mall.of.asia.html

SM City Cebu aims to target the upper class market with its expansion building dubbed, the Northwing.

Marissa Fernan, SM Prime Holdings vice president for marketing said the 10.9—hectare Northwing, which will replicate the ambience of the SM Mall of Asia in Manila, is scheduled to open in May next year.

“We are very excited. SM will try to exude the same kind of ambience in the Mall of Asia in Cebu. The interiors of the Northwing will be done by a Singapore-based designer. SM will be putting up features not seen in Cebu yet,” she told a press conference last Friday.

With regard to the hotel constructed by SM next to the mall in Cebu City, she said the Sy’s are constantly looking for partners willing to infuse investment to complete the hotel’s construction.

Fernan denied the rumor that the reason for the stoppage of the hotel’s construction is the mall management’s misunderstanding with the contractor due to errors in construction.

Nothing wrong

“There is no truth to that. There is nothing wrong with the construction of the hotel. In fact, our employees have been using the basement as parking area,” she said.

Despite its failure to complete the hotel, Fernan said SM will pursue its commitment of helping Cebu attract both foreign and local tourists through completing their shopping experience in Cebu at the SM Southwing, or the main mall, and in the Northwing.

The Northwing, which will have a net leasable area of 17, 677-square meters, will feature higher-end tenants such as Junior Anchors, Ace Builders, Our Home and Al Fresco Dining. Branded retail and specialty shops, a comfort lounge, concierge and entertainment area, will also be found in the annex building.

“Many tenants have already expressed intention of locating in the Northwing,” Fernan said.

The Northwing will have some 1,946 parking lots—three levels of covered parking and one level roof deck parking.

Fernan said the north reclamation rehabilitation and beautification project initiated by SM, in cooperation with the Cebu City Government, will enhance the atmosphere that the mall would like to radiate in the Northwing and the entire shopping complex. (JBN)

Tom to add ‘cute’ features on SRP welcome signage (http://www.philstar.com/index.php?Local%20News&p=52&type=2&sec=70&aid=20071130112)
Saturday, December 1, 2007

Mayor Tomas Osmeña has boasted that the welcome signage erected at the South Road Properties will become a model of strength for billboards and signages in the city, and a landmark that would become a tourist attraction.

The mayor disclosed the other day that he has planned “something cute” for the welcome sign at a hill of the 295-hectare SRP.

The signage, built at a cost of at least P6 million, is already almost complete, Osmeña said as he mentioned that the “cute” addendum to the structure would be statues of children climbing and playing to portray the SRP as one dedicated to the children who are the city’s future.

Osmeña said that at least four to five statues of children would be placed on the signage, or “enough to be noticed”, and they would be made to appear playing like climbing the steel bars, sitting and waving to passers-by.

Some modification on the signage would be done to accomplish this added design, said the mayor.

The welcome signage, a three-storey high structure made of aluminum pipes, would have the title “South Road Properties” spelled out similar to the famous “Hollywood” welcome sign.

This structure is not an ordinary one, Osmeña said adding that it has been built to withstand even the strongest typhoon. This is the reason why the project, which would also promote the SRP, is very expensive, he said.

The welcome sign is just part of the bigger plan, the mayor said citing another plan to build a large water tank that would appear like a tower standing beside the signage.

He said the giant water tank can hold a maximum of 10 million liters of water from the wells of the SRP. This tower will also have coffee shops and bars whose lights would become a nightly attraction from afar.

Osmeña said the entire “welcome” project would cost P20 million, an amount that he insisted is “not foolishness” but a bold promotion of the SRP.

Once the structure is finished, it would become a city landmark that would attrack local and foreign tourists, he said.

The mayor added that the city would have to wait until the first sale of SRP lots is finalized. The city will bid soon the 30-hectare block of the SRP at the Mambaling side.

Osmeña earlier said that there are at least three companies interested to buy the part of the property. — Wenna A. Berondo/RAE

SM opens P1.3B wing
sunstar Online Cebu

DEVIATING from its traditional box-type mall development, SM City Cebu finally opened yesterday its expansion building dubbed the Northwing.

Unlike the existing mall, the new wing now offers spacious hallways catering to the leisure market customers, said Annie Garcia, SM Shopping Center Management Corp. president.

“The market expects us to evolve. We want to attune ourselves to what the public wants. That’s the most important thing in running a mall,” she said.

She also said that the annex projects the same kind of ambience of the Mall of Asia in Manila—“spacious and elegantly designed.”

“People like space. They feel more at ease to shop,” she said, adding that the expansion building truly lives up to its goal of making it the “ultimate lifestyle shopping.”

Different market

Garcia, however, clarified that the Northwing will not compete with the existing mall as it caters to a different market segment.

“We are enlarging the market. We want to serve different market niches. The Northwing is for leisure customers but the other one (mall) is for those who love the hustle and bustle,” she said in an interview with reporters.

In addition, the existing mall, also called the Southwing, targets to attract mostly the middle-end market, while the Northwing has positioned itself to the upper class segment.

Profile of the Northwing tenants include branded retail and specialty shops, and facilities such as a comfort lounge, concierge and entertainment area.

Hans Sy, SM Prime Holdings Inc. (SMPHI) president, said SM has invested P1.3 billion for the entire development.

Hans, son of business tycoon Henry Sy, said the company has foreseen a potential growth in Cebu’s retail industry that encouraged them to renovate and expand their mall here.

Fueled by an increase in the business process outsourcing investments, as well as tourist arrivals in the country, he said he is optimistic that the country’s retail and shopping industry, in general, will remain bullish.

SM Northwing, located at the Cebu North Reclamation Area, had its soft opening yesterday with 48 of the total 187 retail stores now beginning to serve the public.

The five-story expansion building utilizes about 104,000 square meters, with 168 leasable slots and four-level parking spaces that accommodate close to 2,000 cars.

Construction continues

The 10.9-hectare facility is said to complement the mall’s existing 13.8-hectare property at the Cebu North Reclamation Area.

Garcia said 57 percent of the entire mall development is currently undergoing construction including the parking spaces and the al fresco dining at the rooftop area.

Starting this month, about 70 percent of the stores is expected to open, she said.

The grand opening is slated early next year.

“This will be the last expansion for SM Cebu for now,” Garcia said.

She added though that SMPHI is bent on pursuing plans of opening two additional malls in Cebu but the company is still on the look out for feasible sites.

Sy earlier said SMPHI plans to invest P2 billion for the construction of two more branches in the province- one on northern Cebu and another in the southern part of the province.

Construction of the two future malls are expected to begin after completing the SM Northwing project, he said.

“We’re really serious and bullish about Cebu. In fact, it’s our priority area for Visayas and Mindanao projects,” Sy said. (MMM )

Wow there's SMX

Congratulations Van and to the management of SM :applause:

I hope that this and other future developments will serve as a catalyst for the North Reclamation Area to get up on its knees..

skyscrapercity in cebu daily news!!!

An unlikely online forum for Cebuano heritage
By Joeber Bersales
Cebu Daily News
Last updated 02:56pm (Mla time) 11/29/2007

Ironic as it may look, an Internet forum dedicated to paying homage to the design of ultra-modern cities and megastructures is also home to a group of Filipino heritage advocates and enthusiasts working to preserve and promote Cebu’s and the rest of the country’s tangible and intangible remnants of times long gone.

Skyscarpercity.com, a web-based portal originally dedicated to architects, structural engineers and urban planners, actually includes just about anyone who wants to say or show something about his or her hometown. With 144,039 members, the site has about 306,581 topics or “threads,” which currently contain a total of 12,593,825 posts or online exchanges between members.

Among the membership is a dedicated bunch (and a few insomniacs) who tinker away at their computers in the wee hours of the night to post photos, information and trivia about some heritage site, vanishing trade or dying language somewhere in the Philippines.

There are two ways for the curious to check out these Philippine heritage-related forums at this portal.

One way is to go through the long and tedious process of clicking through hundreds of thousands of titled of threads after opening the site (www.skyscrapercity.com) until one reaches the Photography, Heritage, and Architecture, which is under the sub-forum “Around the Philippines.”

The other way is to go the shorter route by simply typing the words “Cebu Heritage Walk Thread 4” on Google, and clicking on the first result, which immediately brings you to the current page (page 45 or 46). Click on it and you are now at the last page of a highly informative forum spiced up with period photos I am sure many have never seen before. One can also surf through all the previous pages of this thread (the clickable page numbers are somewhere on the top-right hand corner of your computer screen).

Started by a heritage-savvy member registered as “Arnod_Carl,” this forum has been on-line since September 2005 and continues three other previous “threads” bearing the same title except the number. I joined Skyscrapercity only last July but I have been surfing since two years back and there is so much information on this forum and the others of similar intent that one can virtually write a book or two about the Philippine past by just reading through the pages.

For anyone who wants to know more about heritage advocacy and preservation, for example, there is another thread entitled, “Protecting and Preserving our Heritage (Thread III)” started on March 5, 2006 by a member who goes by the name “Wonderboy, Batang Maynila.” It is currently on its 26th page of tips and reports of heritage issues and concerns all over the country.

Other threads of interest can be found if one clicks on the clickable titles of links provided just below the Skyscrapercity masthead. Click on the heading “Photography, Heritage, and Architecture” and page opens to a list of nearly 50 other threads including “Philippines: Then and Now Photos”; “Yloilo: Campeon Filipino de la Herencia”; “Ciudad Murada: Intramuros de Manila”; “Foro Filipino (En Español); “Philippine Poetry”; “Wartime Philippines” and “Cebuano/Bisayas Language Thread.”

My favorite is, of course, “Cebu Heritage Walk,” where I regularly post requests for help, offer my own comments and upload photos mostly of archaeological sites in Cebu.

The fight to bring heritage into the agenda of development doesn’t have to be bloody. For those who have less time to wage the battle of persuading local chief executives and ordinary citizens alike to care for and do something about conserving the past, knowing what and why is just a click away.

@TJ

Bai, you were robbed inside the jeepney? Or while you were walking on the street?

Because I have witnessed that kind of incident inside the jeepney. I'm on my way to work yesterday at 3AM, the jeepney where I am in was robbed by 3 men while traversing M. J. Cuenco (downtown). Good thing that I don't bring my cellphone nor my wallet when my shift starts at 3, 4, or 5AM, especially when I am traversing downtown. So, the robbers didn't get anything from me, not even a single centavo. The incident was reported to the Mabolo Police Station, but I didn't go with the victims because I still have a work to catch at 4AM. Plus! I don't consider myself a victim.

There are really a lot of surprises in downtown, and I wonder why the PNP is not giving so much attention in that area where in fact it's known for its bad surprises.

Anyway, all I can say is...

Today, THE NORTHWING of SM City Cebu.

Tomorrow, THE LEISURE OASIS of Ayala Center Cebu.

wohoo! Northwing is so cool! I really love it! The lobby's ambiance is so welcoming with those bands playing really soothing music and smiling shoppers... The northwing raised my Cebuano pride! Congratz!!!

Is this the Grand Lobby you were referring to?
http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l318/vatics0916/Picture002.jpg

When I reached into this area I felt like I was transported into another dimension. Just it time for Christmas, the Grand Lobby could be the perfect place to have a grand Christmas Tree with all the green and red ribbons everywhere. Kudos to SM Management for this time, they have set a new high for Cebuanos! With the smart and chic ambiance, I am sure SM will enjoy more praises and patronage since people will boast of this new shopping experience at SM Northwing with photos to share here and abroad. I'm sure many Cebuano OFWs working abroad after hearing SM's Northwing opening are preparing to cash out their hard-earned money to enjoy and spend Christmas with wonderful "first time" memory of a world-class shopping mall like SM Northwing.

Wahehehe.... I sound like the PR personnel of SM Northwing.... I just can't hold my breath with my owws...and ahhhs!

Nice to hear those remarks...as what Breadtalk owner told us...its better than GB5...di niyo pa yata napasok mga CR. We are using waterless urinals...which are now being implemented nationwide by SM...pasensya wala pa ang blinders...

Yep... That was the first thing I checked. I was suppose to use those waterless urinals when I noticed there were no blinders. I end-up using the cubicles instead. To my suprise, there were so many trendy looking guys outside coming in and out of the rest rooms whenever someone "goodlooking" comes in to jingle. I wonder why it is so! Let me think!

Hope SM Management will put some blinders ASAP.

@ Vanz: How high is the floor-to-ceiling height? This is the first thing you will notice when you crossover the old building to the new building. You will just be awed and amazed will all the big spaces most especially the new building's very expansive floor-to-ceiling height and aisles. At SM Northwing, you feel like in another world. It is also colder in the new building. Hope SM Management will be able to maintain its good airconditioning system at SM Northwing.

waaa, SM Northwing is definitely the best mall in Cebu, or if not, one of the best in the country!! i entered the Northwing using the Southwing entrance, and it was definitely like a portal leading to another world. and the best part, no doubt, is its grand and spacious lobby. i overheard one said while i was enjoying myself in Powerbooks, "nice na jd kaau ang sm." and i heard a lot more from others. i guess this will really pose a challenge to Ayala, although i'm still very confident that i will be having the same feeling for leisure oasis as what i had with the northwing yesterday.

congratulations to the management of SM and to @van for a very successful opening of SM Northwing! It was truly a spectacular experience. it's a good thing i'm able to pass by the mall almost everyday because of it's close proximity to our school. :)

kuya teej, i feel sorry for what happened. maau jd gani ur safe .. i already had this kind of experience, mao jd di ko magpagawas sa akong cel if naa sa jeep or places like downtown, unless emergency na jd kaau .. i hope love gihapon nimo ang northwing.. hehe.

Additional budget pays for baywalk, rice

By Doris C. Bongcac
Cebu Daily News
Last updated 09:06am (Mla time) 12/01/2007

Funds for a new baywalk at the South Road Properties (SRP) and Christmas bonuses in the form of sacks of rice were among the items that got the biggest chunk in another supplemental budget proposed by Cebu City Mayor Tomas Osmeña.

The latest supplemental budget, worth P27 million, is the sixth that the mayor submitted for approval to the city council.

If this proposed budget is approved, all supplemental budgets so far will have totaled P523.37 million.

This is in addition to the city’s annual budget of P2 billion.

Osmeña said that Supplemental Budget No. 6 would use unappropriated funds from the city’s share of the Internal Revenue Allotment (IRA), excesses from the 2006 budget, and realigned surplus from the 2004 Local Development Fund.

In the city council’s Nov. 28 session, the mayor’s proposal was submitted to the committee on budget and finance. A budget hearing has been set for Dec. 11.

Allocations for the new proposed budget include P7 million for the development of a 1.2-kilometer stretch of beachfront property along the SRP into a commercial strip, P6 million for rice for barangay officials and employees that will serve as their Christmas bonuses, and P3 million for the renovation of Carbon Market’s unit 3.

Another P3 million was allocated for new furniture and equipment for some City Hall offices while P1.3 million was allocated for the purchase and installation of electric posts at the newly renovated legislative building.

The mayor also wanted to set aside P1.2 million for city-sponsored activities, P1.1 million for maintenance and other operating expenses, and P700,000 for subsidies to the Kapwa Ko, Mahal Ko Foundation and the Cebu Arts Council.

City Administrator Francisco Fernandez said renovation of Carbon Market’s unit 3 is a priority due to the condition of the market’s roofing over the fish section and the general condition of the building’s second floor.

gipa blotter na nimo tej? :ohno:

@tj: asa dapita nahitabo ang robbery? tsk tsk tsk.... Don't use ur expensive phones when u are in public places or commuting in a public transpo. Ang new Sony Ericsson nimo nawala pod?

I was robbed on my way home sa Urgello....kanang dalan pasulod gikan sa Harrison Park. Duol nako sa among building jud..mahadlok pud ko mosukol coz two sila and one had a gun.....I didnt even dare to look at their faces coz i was so shocked with the gun..I saw guns on tv but it's my first time to see a gun na nakapoint sa ako...as in na feel nako ang nozzle sa gun coz naa man sa akong tummy dapit. :ohno: then the other person took my wallet, my cash sa bulsa, my phone (yup yung Sony Ericson which I decided to bring that day kc James, Arnold, and I were taking pix inside Northwing- normally kc d ko sya dinadala, kahapon lang - na timengan pa jud ko:ohno:) Sana they gave the memory card na lang...huhuhuhuh sayang ang mga pix didto...

Anyway, i ll try to be positive towards what happen...I may have lost some things but I sure gained alot from this experience! Yun nga lang, mejo na trauma nako maglakaw lakawkung ngitngit...and i sure do hope i would be able to get over this asap....

@TJ

I was robbed sa street...on my way home! Few meters away from home...Wa jud ko nagexpect na mahitabo na sa akoa....coz ive been going through the same route for almost a year now. Everyday, 4 am ko mouli from IT park pero now lang jud na timengan. They got my wallet, my pay from PS (since 30 kahapon), my ids and some cards, my beloved cellphone, and cash sa bulsa.

All I remember was, two guys and ang isa naay gun..then ingon sila after - Dagan...aw nidagan pud ko..ehehehehehhe nakaexercise nuon ko sayo sa buntag. May na lang wala ko nila gipusil while running kay ako jud silang multohon if ever for putting a scar sa likod nako..weheheheheheh....all kidding aside, bitaw let's all be safe...

^^ I definitely agree with TJ's observation. Kinsa bay dili mo-gwapa og mo-gwapo upon seeing all big smiles everywhere. You hardly can see people grumpy. Again, kudos to SM Management for bringing new smiles to Cebuanos this Christmas and beyond.

:) I agree! I agree!

waaa, SM Northwing is definitely the best mall in Cebu, or if not, one of the best in the country!! i entered the Northwing using the Southwing entrance, and it was definitely like a portal leading to another world. and the best part, no doubt, is its grand and spacious lobby. i overheard one said while i was enjoying myself in Powerbooks, "nice na jd kaau ang sm." and i heard a lot more from others. i guess this will really pose a challenge to Ayala, although i'm still very confident that i will be having the same feeling for leisure oasis as what i had with the northwing yesterday.

congratulations to the management of SM and to @van for a very successful opening of SM Northwing! It was truly a spectacular experience. it's a good thing i'm able to pass by the mall almost everyday because of it's close proximity to our school. :)

I agree.....Nice jud kaau ang Northwing! Murag other world! :okay: I sooooo love it!
--

kuya teej, i feel sorry for what happened. maau jd gani ur safe .. i already had this kind of experience, mao jd di ko magpagawas sa akong cel if naa sa jeep or places like downtown, unless emergency na jd kaau .. i hope love gihapon nimo ang northwing.. hehe.

Thnx bro...i was not using my cp that time though...I think, natimengan ra jud ko.

Anyway, LOVE na LOVE ko pa rin ang NORTHWING! that's why im going back there to forget the trouble i got in to around 4am this morning. In times like this...i need to redirect my attention...and im sure NORTHWING would serve me well...:okay: Im sure it would put the smile back again in my face. :) I love Northwing!

Anyway to those robbers...God Bless, I hope my stuffs would be able to bless them in some ways or another....merry christmas na lang sa kanila! And I wish them well and would still pray for them to change their lives kc those who live by the sword will die by the sword.

@bai tj,

asa man to nahitabo? piligro gyud kaayo karong mga panahona especially kay padulong na ang pasko. mura pud na sila ug mag-shopping. nabiktima na sad bitaw ko naa kadaghan sauna. pero kato one-on-one gyud to. especially pud kay gamay ko. kutsilyo ray katapat nako. =(.

i hope naay routine checkpoints EVERYWHERE oi. bisag hasol basta safe....

as much as possible na lang gyud bai, kung makaya, pag-taxi na lang gyud. and take note of the plate number.

or if you can, invest on a car or bisag motorbike gud. convenient na. safe pa ka.

Dire sa dalan pasulod from Harrison Park..here sa Urgello..... While I was being interviewed by our guard kanina sa compound bout what happened, another tenant sa building was also robbed din pala few weeks ago..He was inside his car....gitiunan pud sya og pusil like what happened to me :ohno:

Oh my Kuya Jech, traumatic indeed :ohno:

Cebu: The Ultimate Shopping Destination! :applause:

Thnx bro.......Buti na lang SM NORTHWING is here...balik ako dun to forget what happened...I ll go back to the portal :)

Actually bai, there are a lot of high-end brands that will open at The Northwing because that is the purpose why it is created. It's for the upscale consumers. It's just that we didn't bother taking a shot on the tarpaulin of every high-end brand shop that will open soon. Because we are amaze of the beauty of The Northwing. But I can assure you that there are a lot! In fact there's a date stamp on the tarpaulin of every shop. I will take a picture of it next week. Or somebody please take a picture of it as proof of purchase! Este, proof of life! Hehehe...

There are provisions for this...Partly paid by the supplier

Is this the Grand Lobby you were referring to?
http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l318/vatics0916/Picture002.jpg

When I reached into this area I felt like I am transported into another dimension.

@Vans: Tell your bosses... A Job well done! :okay::nocrook::cheers::applause:

They already knew when they visited yesterday. The two sons, and this afternoon Mrs. Sy and the daughter, owner of Brownies and in charge of SM hotel chains and convention. Confirmed to us SM-X Cebu. Mrs. Sy even told us to clean the entire facade of the hotel coz it looks dirty. She mistook the road fronting the fiesta strip to be a national road due to traffic...

Northwing has 2 separate chillers running. Floor to ceiling height is 6 meters. Actually even the old building is now cooler. Several customers in the cinemas kept on complaining that the theaters are so cold.

waaa, SM Northwing is definitely the best mall in Cebu, or if not, one of the best in the country!! i entered the Northwing using the Southwing entrance, and it was definitely like a portal leading to another world. and the best part, no doubt, is its grand and spacious lobby. i overheard one said while i was enjoying myself in Powerbooks, "nice na jd kaau ang sm." and i heard a lot more from others. i guess this will really pose a challenge to Ayala, although i'm still very confident that i will be having the same feeling for leisure oasis as what i had with the northwing yesterday.

SM City Cebu - 2007 Shopping Center of the Year Finalist (Awarded by PRA and DTI last October 28, 2007 in Manila) with MOA and Greenbelt

Are they going to renovate the other parts of SM just like this one? especially the landscaping outside like in the pics of the northwing? I hope they will slowly renovate some parts they can possibly renovate so the whole building looks equally as nice as this one...

Yes...you noticed the areas near Ace, National Bookstore? the tiles? the ceiling accents? and the missing icons on the ledges?

I'm so happy for Cebu :grouphug:

Northwing because the term "North" or up means progress, and like the North Star, SM wants the Northwing to be the guiding light and be the ultimate lifestyle and leisure center of Cebu...the guiding light like a lighthouse which guides all shoppers and customers to the ultimate Shopping Center of Cebu...South wing, Northwing, the hotel and soon SMX and more to come.

speaking of parking lots, open na ba ang basement parking sa northwing? what about ang rooftop?

* * *

trivia: contrary to popular belief, Osmeña Avenue is actually a North-South artery, not an East-West artery, as it may seem to appear...considering this alignment, i'm starting to wonder if the northwing is really aligned to the north...but nonetheless, @van's explanation fits well...Ayala should feel challenged to come up with something equally impressive for their leisure oasis

Thanks Nong Van for the explanation. :)

Yet the term "North" means progress has something to imply in social studies. The division of "civility" as we call it since this term might have been caught up with the American Civil War, the industialized "Union-North" and the agricultural "Confederacy-South". Oops, sorry for the OT.

But anyway, I will go there (by Sinulog hopefuly) and see in my own eyes the Northwing. :okay:

Proving how bullish they are with Cebu as a market, SM Prime Holdings Inc. president Hans Sy outlaid the company’s expansion plans. In another interview, Sy confirmed that two more malls in the Southern and Northern parts of Cebu will be built in years to come. He said that at the moment, they are still eyeing feasible locations for these projects and the SRP is one location they are strongly considering.

Conversion of fountain area into children's playground (http://www.sunstar.com.ph/static/ceb/2007/12/03/life/conversion.of.fountain.area.into.children.s.playground.html)
Sun.Star

AYALA Center Cebu (ACC) reveals a new concept that would replace the fountain area together with the refurbishment of the activity center.

Like a sweet note to this project, last Nov. 29 there was an unveiling of an eight-meter-high “chocolate fondant cake” created by Marissa Unchuan. It is made of Styrofoam painted with chocolate. Some of the cherries are covered with fondant icing. The cake, located in the fountain area near the Ayala Activity Center (AAC), will be there until the end of the year.

How important is the fountain?

It was conceptualized as an indoor water feature to provide a relaxing environment around the mall. But shoppers started to value it as a wishing well, or a converging point, or a venue for bonding activities with friends and loved ones. It therefore served its purpose beyond the intent of its creation.

By the first quarter of 2008, work will begin on converting the fountain area into a children’s play area.

Joy Polloso, ACC head for marketing and business development, said they hope to complete the construction of the play area by the middle of 2008 side by side with the renovation of the activity area.

“We will change the layout of the staircase and make the activity area more open,” Polloso said.

Other plans. This change is part of the whole enhancement plan, which includes the renovation of the lagoon area, set to open by midyear 2008 as a dining and entertainment area.

“We are now in the process of leasing out the lagoon,” Polloso said.

Bong Dy, operations manager of ACC, said the lagoon area will accommodate over 50 tenants. A five-level parking area at the back of the Cebu City Marriott Hotel will open, possibly before the middle of next year.

These changes are part of Ayala’s aim to strengthen its link with shoppers, who can expect more signature events, celebrities, international artists, and world-class gigs after the renovation.

They are to promote "Spread the Sound of the South"! Urbandub has been and will always be Cebu based despite being frequent in Manila for their tapings, etc.

Way to go! Padayon Urbandub!

... i think i've read somewhere that they've recorded their 4th album in Manila

I was there during their album launch at Eastwood. I also managed to meet them during an event in our org. I'm rather disappointed with their new album... well, maybe I haven't taken the time to listen more. So far, I only like Guillotine, which is kinda disappointing since I really want to deviate from mainstream music and listen to songs which aren't featured in hit lists / charts.

So, what do you recommend. Is it sulit to buy the album or just download MP3s from any sharing source.

I like their first 3 albums though.

mejo "mellow" kasi ng konti yung 4th album compared to the 1st three pero ok pa rin naman ang mga songs. but for me, embrace is still their best though. :)

yupyup! what i like about the band is that they have their own sound. their own signature. galing pa ng combination nila from vocals to drums. astig yung drummer kasi double-bass drums!hehe

^^ Yup. Sorry, im not that musical buff, but there is something uniquely Urbandub...The bass guitar or the strings also makes the difference too. And the voice of Gabe Alipe is distinct.

Food strip eyes Feb. opening in P400M mall
Cebu Daily News
Last updated 03:51pm (Mla time) 12/03/2007

CEBU CITY, Philippines - A restaurant and food strip will open early next year inside a mall located across the Cebu International Convention Center (CICC) to address the growing need of the public for more food destinations.

Carlos Co, Golden Great Value Properties Inc. (GGVPI) president, said the Al Fresco restaurant strip, which will open on February 2008, consists of some 30 restaurants and fastfood chains.

GGVPI operates Park Mall at 168, where Al Fresco will be located.

“The completion of Al Fresco is the project's Phase 1 development,” said Co adding that aside from Al Fresco, Save More Supermarket will also be opened inside the mall.

Parkmall at 168 lead consultant Gladys S. Ceniza said the supermarket will be “the biggest outside Metro Manila” covering a total of 6,000 square meters.

The mall, which involves P300 million to 400 million investment, is expected to have its grand opening on June 2009 and will have a total of 200 tenants.

Parkmall at 168 will rise on a six-hectare lot at the Mandaue City reclamation area.

Ceniza noted that they are not competing with existing malls since Parkmall carries the “tiangge” (flea market) concept, which serves the needs of “budget conscious individuals and families.”

“We are positioning Parkmall as a value shopping destination which can cater to a broad market. We want to address the needs of people who want the best value for their money,” Ceniza said.

On Friday, GGVPI launched “The Great Parkmall Christmas Festival” which featured products of home-grown brands such as clothing line, Simone and fashion and accessories made by Cebu Megamoms Multi-Purpose Cooperative.

“This is our first leg of promoting Parkmall as a value shopping destination. We will have concerts and shows to enliven the crowd,” Ceniza said.

More than 100 exhibitors joined the festival, which will run until December 9. /Reporter Cris Evert Lato

re: ayala fountain: for a while, i thought that it was some kind of a Halloween display...

i cant wait for the Leisure Oasis, i'm sure the guys behind ACC would cook-up something fabulous to stand up to the Northwing

re: mormon temple: if only local developers are as fast as these guys in their projects, i'm sure most of the current proposals posted here would have been half-way done if not complete already

re: robinland: despite its height, i actually love the design...best looking midget in town :okay:

re: southernlights: thanks to @animasola for uploading the album...i believe that it's kind of, should i say, hard, to warm up to their songs, but after a few repeated plays, you're sure to get hooked...much like caviar, their music is an acquired taste

Just got this from the Colleges and Universities thread, I don't think it is accurate though. 3 Cebuano Universities got into the top 20 list, 2 of which are in the top 10. The top spot may be a collective of all UP Campuses in the country.

1. University of the Philippines
2. Ateneo University (combined of Manila, Davao, et. al)
3. De La Salle University
4. University of Sto. Tomas
5. Silliman University
6. St. Louis University
7. University of San Carlos
8. Mindanao State University (combined of Iligan Insititute of Tech., Cotabato, et.al)
9. Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila
10. University of Southern Philippines
11. Mapua Institue of Technology
12. Polytechnic University of the Philippines
13. Angeles University Foundation
14. University of the Visayas
15. Western Visayas State University
16. AMA Computer University
17. Mariano Marcos State University
18. University of Cordilleras (Baguio Colleges Foundation)
19. San Beda College
20. San Sebastian College - Recoletos

I can't believe that USC is behind SLU and that UC wasn't included in the list. I thought UC had tons of board topnotchers in fields of naval engineering.
