That IFC Tower looks so impressive! I'll try to superimpose that thing on the mactan bridge photo. i'm afraid it will take a while since i'm off to baguio tonight with friends for a couple of days :D

Megadome to rise in Mandaue for next ASEAN summit
First posted 10:25am (Mla time) Dec 12, 2005
By Christine Avendaño
Inquirer

KUALA LUMPUR -- As host of next year's summit of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations, Manila is keenly observing how Kuala Lumpur is hosting the 11th ASEAN summit here Monday. The next summit will be held in Cebu.

The Philippines is planning to build a "megadome" in Mandaue City for the summit.

On the eve of the 11th ASEAN summit, President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo arrived in this Malaysian capital with a delegation from Cebu led by its governor, Gwen Garcia.

"We are really carefully looking at what's going on in here - how they receive us, how activities are being conducted here," said Garcia, whose delegation included Cebu City Mayor Tommy Osmeña and Cebu Representatives Antonio Cuenco and Nerissa Soon-Ruiz.

While she had been hearing that Cebu might host the next ASEAN summit, the governor said she only got official word when the President went to Cebu last month.

Ms Arroyo had remarked then that Cebu could "showcase what the Philippines could be."

"We certainly and we would like to assure the rest of the country that Cebu will roll out the red carpet and do everything that needs to be done in order to showcase our country," Garcia said.

Cebu city mayor in Malaysia to
observe ASEAN Summit hosting

Cebu City Mayor Tomas Osmeña and other Cebu officials left for Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on Sunday to observe the hosting of this year's 11th Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Summit.

The city's event organizer Ricky Ballesteros, Representative Antonio Cuenco (Cebu City South District) and several other city officials also flew to Malaysia for the same purpose.

"We don't want to reinvent the wheel," Osmeña told Cebu Daily News before his trip, referring to what steps Cebu City would take to prepare for its hosting of the 12th ASEAN Summit next year.
During last Saturday's Feminist Centennial - Cebu Festival, Osmeña took the opportunity to explain the possible scenario during the summit in Cebu next year.

Osmeña urged city residents to plan ahead their vacations in December 2006 to lessen security risks, saying that Cebu would then be a potential target of terrorist attacks.

"It's no fiesta. We cannot afford to let it happen," he said.

He said he would push for a public holiday to be declared for the duration of the summit as early as now.

This, Osmeña said, would be one of the issues he would discuss with President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo in Kuala Lumpur.

the article above is an excerpt from manila bulletin news item
????????????????????? what could this be?

>From the one-billion-peso fund set aside by the President, Garcia said they will spend some P250 million for the construction of a "world-class multi-events center" where the summit conventions could be held.

CHI to invest P1B more in Cebu

THE Ayala conglomerate, through Ayala Land Inc. Cebu, an affiliate of Cebu Holdings Inc. (CHI), has invested some P7 billion in Cebu in its 17 years of presence in the province. CHI president Rene Almendras told reporters on the sidelines of the formal celebration of CHI’s 17th anniversary in Ayala Center Cebu (ACC) over the weekend that the Zobel de Ayalas have committed to infuse in Cebu’s economy P1 billion more in the next three years. “We are happy (with our performance). CHI has continued to grow despite the economic crisis the country has gone through. Our growth may not be that spectacular, but we are growing and we will continue to look for opportunities,” he said. Almendras said one of the opportunities CHI is looking at is in the South Road Property (SRP), formerly south reclamation project. “The Cebu City government is offering us a portion of the SRP. But we are still studying what project to venture into in the property,” he said. The expansion and renovation of the ACC, CHI’s maiden commercial project in Cebu, is the company’s biggest and immediate project, which will be implemented next year, Almendras said.

Investment

He said some P800 million of the company’s one billion additional investment will go to the ACC expansion and renovation project. The project includes the construction of a new building at the southern part of the mall and the renovation of the lagoon, which will soon have another name. These developments are intended to add more than 7,000 square meters to ACC’s gross leasable area, which is already 99 percent occupied. Almendras earlier said ACC has been receiving inquiries from merchants who want to get in to the mall. The renovations will also “bring Cebu lifestyle to a new level.” “We are not going to change Cebu’s lifestyle but we are going to focus and highlight its strengths,” he said. CHI will also be doing more residential projects next year that will cater to the housing needs not only of the high-end market but of the middle-income as well.

So, the P800 million will be spent for:
a)ACC Expansion
b)ACC Mall and Lagoon Renovation and Redevelopment
c)Additional Parking Spaces

^^ argh... that's the thing! is it possible to build that stuff in less than a year? :?

^^ maybe if they will use hundreds of workers. heheh

Info: the pentagon, the largest office building in the world, was finished in a matter of 16 months. The megadome is way much smaller. So if they really have to will to build it for the summit, it is highly possible...

Compare the figures:
P250M for the Megadome
P800M for the Ayala Expansion.

I know that the Megadome is way larger than the Ayala Expansion Building but why does it have smaller expenditure costs? Maybe the materials are of low quality... :D

i'm confident they'll stick with the plan. The Megadome project was said to cost P250M even way back during the final stages of the design. and it's not just a sports venue. it is an enterntainment-convention-exhibit-leisure hub facility as well :D what i only know about the recent changes on the project is the rescaling of the max. capacity from 25,000 down to 16,000-seater nalang. but i can't remember if the P250M budget was enough for the 25K capacity or the downgraded 16K seater. i hope it's the 25,000-seater!! :D

it's nice to hear all these projects!

With regards to the P250 million center, I think it's more of a convention center... Basin ang CITEC na ni sya! ---> Cebu International Trade and Exhibition Center, Cebu's own version of PICC...

Ey come on guys, remember when Cebu hosted the ATF (Asian Tourism Forum), the Waterfront Hotel in Lahug was hastily built for the said meeting........ In fact, the DOT Secretary during that time was thinking of cancelling the event in Cebu and have it held in Manila nalang coz she had doubts whether the hotel would be ready in time.... But it did!!!! Although the entire hotel was not completely finished but at least nagamit ang uban niya facilities for the said forum.....

Cebu: ideal wellness investment site

Cebu is an ideal location for investments in the wellness and related businesses, Bernardo Villegas of the University of Asia and the Pacific (UAP) School of Economics said in an economic briefing last Saturday. "I think Cebu is a perfect place (for the wellness, health and beauty services). You have very good hospitals, schools of nursing, golf courses and spas," Villegas said.

The wellness industry is among those sectors expected to register high growth in future years, he said. Known as medical tourism in Thailand, he said, the country took advantage of the opportunities generated by developing the industry. The Thais discovered that a huge number of the country's 10 million tourists spend one or two days to get their executive check-up, eye care, dental care, cosmetic surgery and other medical services, Villegas said.

Thailand earned US$400 million a year from medical tourism. As a result, other Asian countries, such as Singapore, also developed their own medical tourism packages, he added. He noted that there were many potential markets such as Japan, which has a growing aging population. "There are about 22 million Japanese who are over 65 and receiving US$2,300 monthly pension," Villegas said.

Since health care costs in other countries are quite prohibitive, he said, the retirees have to look for more affordable medical services in other countries. For example, a cardiac bypass in the United States costs almost US$100,000 while in the Philippines and Thailand, the same operation would cost about US$20,000. Villegas said the wellness industry could combine a long stay in the country with other tourist activities such as playing golf and visiting sites.

A Japanese company, which owns over 100 hospitals in Japan, is planning to operate a hospital in Metro Manila to tap the lucrative retirees market in Japan, he said. The Philippine Economic Zone Authority (PEZA) is also coming up with policies that would encourage the development of medical zones by granting incentives, Villegas said. He also noted that the shortage in medical professionals would be addressed if hospitals generated revenues that would enable them to pay them higher wages.

"The brain drain is a very serious threat. A lot of hospitals in Manila is suffering from a dearth of good operators of medical equipment," Villegas said. He noted that the wellness, health and beauty industry, an emerging sector, is now at the same level the call center industry was a few years ago. The shortage of nurses would be addressed since there are more schools offering the course, he said. In addition, Filipino doctors who migrated to the United States and are banned from practicing because they are already 65 years old could come back to the Philippines to undertake more difficult surgical operations, Villegas said.

Good news in tourism.
CDN

Rising tourist arrivals have been noted in the provinces of Cebu, Oriental Negros, Bohol and Siquijor.

The number of visitors who came to the region rose 10.5 percent in the first nine months of 2005, boosted by a 17-percent increase in the arrival of foreign tourists.

The region received 375,000 visitors in the third quarter alone, bannered by 129,382 foreigners.

For the January to September period, tourists in the region reached 1.092 million.

The number of the region's unemployed dropped to 319,000, compared to 2004's 327,000

The furniture industry, on the other hand, is still being plagued by cheaper competition from China, which has adopted "higher technology" to compete with Cebu's top quality furniture.

I second this notion...Albay astrodome was built @ P100M if im not wrong in +-1997. Its a 4500 seating to max of 8000 including standing crowd capacity centrally air-conditioned sports arena.

^^ argh... that's the thing! is it possible to build that stuff in less than a year? :?

is it possible engineering-wise? it already has the budget naman. cold cash! haha... of the P1B alotted for the ASEAN Summit, P250M will go to the Megadome. :D

i saw this show on the discovery channel before about building structures such as domes and i think it's very possible to build it in less than a year. The dome they built in Australia took less than 10 months and shaping the dome itself didn't take more than 5 days. First they just scattered cement all over and then there was this air pump under which makes the dome rise and the dome just basically builds itself. Awesome stuff! Or I may be talking about a different kind of domes. hehe.

KUALA LUMPUR--The Philippines will host next year's Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and East Asia Summit leaders' meetings on the resort island of Cebu, officials said Monday.

President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo made the announcement on the sidelines of the ASEAN summit in the Malaysian capital, a Philippine official told Agence France-Presse.

"Arroyo... announced and invited leaders to attend the Second East Asia Summit and the 12th ASEAN summit in Cebu in 2006," he said.

The East Asia Summit, which takes in the 10 ASEAN members plus Australia, China, India, Japan, New Zealand and South Korea, holds its inaugural meeting here Wednesday.

Teodulo Ybanez, administrator of Lepu-Lepu City in Cebu, said Philippine officials were now in Kuala Lumpur to study how Malaysia has organized the current summit.

"We cannot match Malaysia's world-class facilities but we will try to accommodate all delegates from the 16 countries," Ybanez said, according to the officialBernama news agency.

The Philippines was selected to play host after Myanmar was passed over for its turn, amid concerns over its failure to introduce democratic reforms.

The summit venue is rotated among the member countries in alphabetical order. The Philippines hosted the third ASEAN summit in 1987.

Cebu, located in the heart of the Philippine archipelago, is about an hour's flight from the capital Manila.

CHI to cater to needs of Asiatown workers

Cebu will soon see a miniature of the working world of the West at the Asiatown IT (information technology) Park in Barangay Apas, Cebu City.

According to Cebu Holdings Inc. (CHI) president Rene Almendras, CHI-subsidiary Cebu Property Ventures and Development Corp. (CPVDC) will start creating this new environment to suit the lifestyle of the employees in Asiatown in January next year.

“(This new environment will be found where The Village is now located). We will renovate the place beginning next year and create an environment that will allow employees in the zone (especially those working in business process outsourcing companies) to thrive,” he said.

“These people are heroes. They bring in dollars to the country. We will complete their lives (by providing them with what they need),” Almendras said.

Earlier, he said BPOs are the “light at the end of the tunnel” that will save the country’s dwindling eco-nomy.

“The Philippines, in general, is one of the countries known for potential sites for BPO projects. The others are India, which accounts for 57 percent of the world’s BPO supply, China and Malaysia, among others,” Almendras said.

With regard to The Village renovation, he said CPVDC will construct a commercial center, which will contain stores that could operate in accordance to the working time of the Asiatown employees.

Alive

“We are already talking with merchants, such as (owners of) coffee shops, restaurants, resto-bars, retail stores that are willing to operate at night or early morning when Asiatown is alive,” Almendras said.

Aside from call centers PeopleSupport Philippines Inc. and e-Telecare Global Solutions, business process outsourcing companies, such as the Tsuneishi Group of Companies, NCR Cebu Development Center, Epson Precision (Phils.) Inc., SPI Technologies Inc. and Dash Engineering Philippines Inc. are also operating 24-hours inside Asiatown.

The Village is currently being managed by Runway Ventures.

The company’s management contract with CPVDC will end on Dec. 31.

Increase

Aside from the renovation, the two new buildings, which are now under construction, will also be operational next year. This will increase Asiatown’s gross leasable area by 100 percent, Almendras said.

He said the investments made in the renovation is part of the billion-peso investment the Ayala Group of companies plans to pour into Cebu in the next three years.

Ayala celebrated its 17 years of presence in Cebu by establishing Ayala Land Affiliate-—CHI.

Almendras earlier revealed that the conglomerate has invested a total of P7 billion, mostly in its maiden commercial project in Cebu, Ayala Center Cebu and its other property development project, such as Asiatown and Amara residential property within the span of time. (JBN)

who said that it's only a clean 250 million budget? yeh, pinapalabas nila na 250million para hindi masyadong malaki pakinggan ang gastos but actually that 250million is only half of the entire project, the actual budget costs about 450million plus plus plus.
Diba, ito rin ang dahilan kng bakit several local officials opposed the megadome coz the whole thing will cost not only 250million but almost double.
That 250million is only the partial/initial cost...

_ _ _ _
about the cleaning...
it's a sad thing on Mandaue side but for Cebu City, it's a possitive thing coz most of Cebu City residents don't know that the whole local government are having their general cleaning every Saturday, not in City Hall but of the whole Cebu City... Infact one of their hardest was last Dec 3 when they cleaned the waterfronts of Cebu City, from Cebu International port in Mandaue side upto SRP in Talisay boudary together with all the volunteers from diffrent schools here in Cebu City... But the sad thing, naluooy lang ko nila coz Cebu City is very huge and too populated with all our thousands of visitors coming from other provinces made it quite impossible for them to make Cebu City 100% cleaner.
And I thank them for their efforts and hard works to clean our city for the benefit of us as a whole.

Cebu gets its act together for heritage conservation
First posted 00:17am (Mla time) Dec 05, 2005
By Augusto Villalon
Inquirer

VERY RARELY IN THE Philippines do provincial leaders recognize the
uniqueness of their people and so take the effort to assess their
cultural strengths as a prelude to mapping out a program to preserve
their cultural identity.

Cebu is among the first provinces to take the step. Spearheaded by
Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia, provincial government authorities met with
prominent Cebuano businessmen and the Archdiocese of Cebu to establish
Garbo sa Sugbo (Cebuano Pride) Foundation.

The private foundation is a landmark. It finally unites the
government, Church and business, all normally having divergent visions
in the preservation issue. Their common cause is to identify and
preserve all aspects of Cebuano heritage. It is a great first step.

What Garbo sa Sugbo Foundation aims is to make each Cebuano aware of
his or her people's special story and to eventually be able to tell
that story with pride.

Not many Filipinos have pride of place these days, much less pride of
country. On the other hand, pride is bred into each Cebuano since
birth.

Cebuanos are fiercely proud of their language, their place in
Philippine history, and their innate sense of entrepreneurship.

The island's geographical location made it the logical hub for the
maritime shipping industry in the Philippines.

Cebuano craftsmanship has made the province a respected manufacturing
center for export products.

Probably the leading destination in the country, Cebu once promoted
itself as an "Island in the Pacific" to escape negative publicity
during the turbulent days of Philippine politics. The tourists kept
coming.

Tourism has made Cebuanos aware of their island's natural
qualities-clear water, beaches, islets, and dive sites, truly the
"Island in the Pacific" as it once claimed to be.

Heritage is another issue. Cebuanos are largely unfamiliar with their
heritage. Garbo sa Sugbo Foundation aims to change all that.

As a first step, foundation members representing different sectors of
cultural activity committed to completing an inventory of all
expressions of Cebuano heritage, including traditional literature,
music, art, crafts, cuisine, architecture, heritage towns.

What to do next

The next step after the inventory is to determine what to do with all
of the cultural riches still existing in the province.

The inventory expands long-established activities for Cebuano cultural
regeneration.

One of the most successful activities is the Cebu Heritage Frontier by
the Ramòn Aboitiz Foundation, which has long been documenting
architectural heritage in four Spanish colonial towns on the south
coast of the island. The program trains locals to respect and preserve
their heritage, and introduces community-based cultural tourism
programs designed to economically benefit the locals.

Other members of Garbo sa Sugbo Foundation are individually involved
with research in traditional Cebuano art, literature, cuisine.

The foundation institutionalizes research activities and provides a
central repository for the information.

Documentation of Cebuano culture will lead to the preparation of a
cultural heritage plan with programs to establish methods of
preservation following internationally prescribed principles, to
categorize and prioritize certain areas of preservation, and to
determine what public-private cooperation is needed for effective
preservation.

A model for public-private cooperation is now in place with the recent
provincial declaration of Carcar as a Heritage Town and the passing of
the Carcar heritage bill which designates heritage zones, levels of
protection for heritage structures, and, most importantly, enlists the
participation of the Carcar Heritage Conservation Society to provide
technical expertise in the task of preserving their historic town.

Unknown to many, much is being done for the conservation of heritage in Cebu.

Another example, the Santo Niño Basilica and Casa Gorordo Museum, both
national monuments protected by the National Historical Institute, are
being conserved under the supervision of qualified restoration
architects. This indicates there's awareness that restoration is a
specialized activity that cannot be done by unqualified professionals.

Despite the work being done to conserve the heritage of Cebu, much is
still being lost.

The Garbo sa Sugbo program intends to reawaken Cebuanos to their
unique heritage and to add the dimension of cultural pride as a
defining factor to the already existing Cebuano sense of pride.

After regaining pride of its natural and cultural richness, it will be
time for Cebu to at last step out of its island boundaries and offer
its cultural rediscovery and preservation experience to the rest of
the country as a model for nation-building through establishing a
sense of Filipino pride.

Maybe the design of Architect Medalla was really worth P250million.. Remember that when they had the design contest, one of the criteria was that it should conform only to a cost of P250million...

Most of the megadomes in Ormoc, Albay, etc.. are made of very heavy materials ---> lots of concrete, hollow blocks, etc... and that will cost a lot... not to mention the "kickbacks." hehehehe

Maybe the megadome will be built of lighter materials like glass, some steel and aluminum, ummmm more of like a futuristic structure.. :)

BUT I DONT THINK it would be necessary to build a megadome just for the ASEAN Summit.. They can hold it at the Cebu International Convention Center in Waterfront, or in Shangri-La Mactan, were most of the ASEAN related meetings are held.... Moreover, the CITEC (Cebu International Trade and Exhibition Center) is far more feasible.. :)

I second this notion...Albay astrodome was built @ P100M if im not wrong in +-1997. Its a 4500 seating to max of 8000 including standing crowd capacity centrally air-conditioned sports arena.
http://www.albay.gov.ph/portraits/astrodome.jpg

So I believe its way too small for a 16,000 fully seated capacity. Just my notion. And its already year 2005.

the construction is ongoing... it will start from the foot of the coastal bridge down passing under Malacañang sa Sugbo, Plaza Independencia and Fort San Pedro and it will end in Mc Arthur blvd., it's the blvd along the pier area and is parallel to MJ Cuenco ave...
the original plan for that is a cheaper elevated highway or skyway if I may call it passing above Malacañang sa Sugbo, Plaza Independencia and Fort San Pedro but it was opposed by the historical commission coz of the importance of the said area and it will ruin the look of an old historic Fort San Pedro, imagine a centuries old fort with a modern skyway atop... so they decided for a tunnel instead of a skyway.

Megadome won't be available
in 2006 for ASEAN Summit

Although Governor Gwendolyn Garcia was quoted in Malaysia as saying Cebu would build a proposed Megadome in time for the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) summit next year, the desire remains a dream.

Her brother, Pablo, Capitol management consultant, said even if the Megadome was built today, it still would not be useable by December 2006.

Some Cebu legislators were worried about the governor's reported pledge to finish the Megadome by 2006.

Opposition board member Gabriel Luis Quisumbing said that while he was in favor of a world-class venue for the summit, projects like schools should be made a priority.

"I don't oppose the Megadome, but I don't think it's proper to have taxpayer funds pay for its construction, which involves several hundreds of million pesos," he said.

A report in the Philippine Daily Inquirer on Monday quoted Governor Garcia as saying that Cebu would "roll out the red carpet" for the summit, and that it would be held at the Megadome.

Board Member Agnes Magpale said the Capitol should focus on more urgent projects, such as a provincial hospital.

Rural folk in 52 towns and cities rely on the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center in Cebu City for health services.

The ASEAN members are Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam.

Along with the 10 ASEAN countries, China, Japan, South Korea, India, Australia and New Zealand will take part in the first EAS (East Asia Summit) on Dec. 14 in Kula Lumpur.

The 12th ASEAN summit and the second EAS (East Asia Summit) will simultaneously be held in Cebu island Philippines.

I thought the 12th ASEAN summit will only be held here in Cebu but EAS will also be held here pala simultaneously but I think it will be cancelled for Cebu to host if the Megadome won't be built coz Waterfront Hotel is too small for the said 2 big summits but I heard Vice Gov. Sanchez interviewed kanina lang 5pm sa radio, he's infavor for the megadome to be built immediately for the ASEAN summit coz it will also serve as a promotion for Cebu. There will only be two options IMO, build the megadome or cancel of the 2 summits to be held in Cebu.

That Globe innove building is also my favorite, my second is the Pag Ibig tower and the third is the Keppel, the maroon one with the steel foundation and is unfaltering that can withstand a magnitude 9 earthquake.

yup, Cebu is not on an earthquake zone so it means no earthquake greater than mag 2 can happen in Cebu... watta blessing:)

the current tallest ouside MM is the 25 storey Winland twin tower.
but ofcrse, once that Crown Regency will be completed, it will be the tallest ouside MM.
http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b396/arnoldsa/winland.jpg

but there's still the third building. Once construction of the second tower is completed, construction of the third (and final tower) will begin... Occupants of this building are mostly Iranian students, some Koreans, some offices, a review center, KAPLAN, a radio station, etc.. etc..

really? ako ka experience nuon ko several times na but not greater than magnitude 3 or 4 like the strongest was wayback 1993 if I'm not mistaken, when I and my cousin were inside the ice skating rink of SM City Cebu and suddenly the ground shook quite strong, as usual everyone ran for their lives going outside the mall coz Cebu is not an earthquake zone so people were anxious at that time... I, together with my cousin went out of the rink and ran outside eventhough we're still wearing the skating shoe with that blades beneath... I don't know why we've made it running with that shoes for several meters. After that, SM was inspected for a while...

Earthquakes happen in every corner of the world but there are only several places that is a major earthquake zones and Cebu is not part of it...:)

in japan, earthquakes are very common and they happen very often, not just small ones. but the people aren't afraid of them unless walls and ceilings start to fall, of course. in each month, there is at least one major earthquake and if you are not used to it, better behave or else people will laugh at you...

grabe gyud kalit lang ug uyog nya mga tawo kay wala lay reaction.

the last worst quake that jolted japan was in kobe and it killed so many people. it wasn't at all attributed to the debris or people sandwiched between boulders, but the result after it like fire. their lpg is not like our usual lpg stored in tanks. mura ug tubig ila kay de-tubo. so kung mag earthquake ug mag leak ang pipes unya bisan wala maunsa ang building, patay gihapon. hehehehehe.

there was a strong earthquake that hit cebu, february 8, 1990...

I lost that magazine with the rendering.. I think the tallest in Manila (and in the whole country) would be at around 65 storeys but it's under construction pa.. :) And its not just a single building, it's actually a complex with three buildings, with tallest in the middle of course.. :)

Here were some unfinished/unrealized proposals because of the 1997 Asian Financial Crisis (I got these from the cabinet of my dad who was once a Realtor):

1.) An 18-storey Condominium in Nivel Hills (before Mr. A's) -- only the foundation was built;unfinished; right now, it's just a fenced lot with protruding reinforcing bars

2.) 36-storeys One CKS Tower (Jones Avenue) -- P20 million was spent for the foundation alone, a big amount back before when the peso was still P26 to the dollar

3.) A 21-storey condotel in Mactan --

4.) Uniwide Sales Warehouse (Mandaue Reclamation Area) -- owners were not able to pursue the project, worst they didn't pay realty taxes to the city so the city gov't. took over it.

5.) A five-star mid rise hotel in Bogo-San Remigio -- only the golf-course was completed; I'm not quite sure if it's the present Casa del Mar or the one owned by Horacio Franco.

6.) An 18 storey "Borromeo Building" in Ramos St. -- wala nadayon.. The lot has been converted into a parking space.

Developing commercial complex
in Cebu good investment option

Commercial complex development is one of the most lucrative investments that real estate players could venture into in Cebu.

According to JEG Development Corp. business development officer Shem Jose W. Garcia, the real estate industry could look into developing projects to take advantage of Cebu's growing consumer and lifestyle market.

"The trend now really is developing commercial centers where people could hang out," Garcia said in an interview.
The Garcia-led company will launch on Wednesday its second real estate development venture called One Acacia Place located along Archbishop Reyes Street near the Cebu Business Park (CBP).

Although known as the former management company of the Visayan Electric Company, JEG was also the developer of the now fully occupied executive residential project called Blue Garden Place in Lahug.

"The Cebu Business Park is becoming Cebu's 'Makati.' We want to capitalize on this advantage," said Garcia.

He added that CBP would even be more vibrant with the upcoming business hotels and condominium units nearing completion.

Garcia said JEG plans to develop high-rise properties but not until the Cebu market was ready for it, which could be 10 to 12 years from now.

One Acacia Place is a 1,700-square-meter lifestyle and commercial complex housing restobars, party shops, 24-hour convenient stores, sports equipment and accessory shops, among others.

With the modern visual style of the building that would welcome those entering CBP, One Acacia Place is positioning to become a landmark lifestyle destination in Cebu, Garcia said. The company started construction of One Acacia Place in July.

Region VII tourist arrivals hit 1 million mark - NEDA

CEBU CITY, Dec. 14 (PNA) – The National Economic Development Administration (NEDA) has reported that Region VII was able to hit its one million goal on domestic and foreign tourist arrival in the third quarter of the year after some 1.092 million tourists came here.

Of the 375,000 visitors to Central Visayas from July-September, 129,382 were foreigners, the NEDA report said. However, the same report showed a zero growth in exports in the region and a slight increase in prices of commodities during the first three quarters of the year.

Top exports electronics, electrical equipment and furniture have indicated double-digit reduction in volume and value, the Neda report said. Also, inclement weather in September and October was blamed for delayed deliveries of agricultural products, thus, it has affected supply and raised prices in the market.

Pride of Place : Cebu gets its act together for heritage conservation

VERY RARELY IN THE Philippines do provincial leaders recognize the uniqueness of their people and so take the effort to assess their cultural strengths as a prelude to mapping out a program to preserve their cultural identity.

Cebu is among the first provinces to take the step. Spearheaded by Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia, provincial government authorities met with prominent Cebuano businessmen and the Archdiocese of Cebu to establish Garbo sa Sugbo (Cebuano Pride) Foundation.

The private foundation is a landmark. It finally unites the government, Church and business, all normally having divergent visions in the preservation issue. Their common cause is to identify and preserve all aspects of Cebuano heritage. It is a great first step.

What Garbo sa Sugbo Foundation aims is to make each Cebuano aware of his or her people's special story and to eventually be able to tell that story with pride.

Not many Filipinos have pride of place these days, much less pride of country. On the other hand, pride is bred into each Cebuano since birth.

Cebuanos are fiercely proud of their language, their place in Philippine history, and their innate sense of entrepreneurship.

The island's geographical location made it the logical hub for the maritime shipping industry in the Philippines.

Cebuano craftsmanship has made the province a respected manufacturing center for export products.

Probably the leading destination in the country, Cebu once promoted itself as an "Island in the Pacific" to escape negative publicity during the turbulent days of Philippine politics. The tourists kept coming.

Tourism has made Cebuanos aware of their island's natural qualities-clear water, beaches, islets, and dive sites, truly the "Island in the Pacific" as it once claimed to be.

Heritage is another issue. Cebuanos are largely unfamiliar with their heritage. Garbo sa Sugbo Foundation aims to change all that.

As a first step, foundation members representing different sectors of cultural activity committed to completing an inventory of all expressions of Cebuano heritage, including traditional literature, music, art, crafts, cuisine, architecture, heritage towns.

What to do next

The next step after the inventory is to determine what to do with all of the cultural riches still existing in the province.

The inventory expands long-established activities for Cebuano cultural regeneration.

One of the most successful activities is the Cebu Heritage Frontier by the Ramòn Aboitiz Foundation, which has long been documenting architectural heritage in four Spanish colonial towns on the south coast of the island. The program trains locals to respect and preserve their heritage, and introduces community-based cultural tourism programs designed to economically benefit the locals.

Other members of Garbo sa Sugbo Foundation are individually involved with research in traditional Cebuano art, literature, cuisine.

The foundation institutionalizes research activities and provides a central repository for the information.

Documentation of Cebuano culture will lead to the preparation of a cultural heritage plan with programs to establish methods of preservation following internationally prescribed principles, to categorize and prioritize certain areas of preservation, and to determine what public-private cooperation is needed for effective preservation.

A model for public-private cooperation is now in place with the recent provincial declaration of Carcar as a Heritage Town and the passing of the Carcar heritage bill which designates heritage zones, levels of protection for heritage structures, and, most importantly, enlists the participation of the Carcar Heritage Conservation Society to provide technical expertise in the task of preserving their historic town.

Unknown to many, much is being done for the conservation of heritage in Cebu.

Another example, the Santo Niño Basilica and Casa Gorordo Museum, both national monuments protected by the National Historical Institute, are being conserved under the supervision of qualified restoration architects. This indicates there's awareness that restoration is a specialized activity that cannot be done by unqualified professionals.

Despite the work being done to conserve the heritage of Cebu, much is still being lost.

The Garbo sa Sugbo program intends to reawaken Cebuanos to their unique heritage and to add the dimension of cultural pride as a defining factor to the already existing Cebuano sense of pride.

After regaining pride of its natural and cultural richness, it will be time for Cebu to at last step out of its island boundaries and offer its cultural rediscovery and preservation experience to the rest of the country as a model for nation-building through establishing a sense of Filipino pride.

Yup there's going to be a building that will be built in Luzon Ave. (beside Kaona Grill)..

Bai I passed by Tower Palace ganiha, tapad ra cguro ang 2 storey showroom sa Tower Palace based on the billboard that they put up..

So there are now THREE highrise buildings u/c in CBP??

Bai galibog jud ko, in the rendering that was shown during the Architect's Exhibit, the Tower Palace was supposed to be built at the lot beside Kaona Grill but now they are building it at the lot near Gorordo... So maybe the lot beside Kaona is another highrise building? Since the so-called 2-storey showroom is just beside the Tower Palace (based on the rendering)... :) :)

There's no more unfinished building there.. It's already the regional office of the Central Bank.. It's a very large building that looks like a Fortress... It also has a basement, but dunno if they make money there.. I saw the entrance to its basement from the fifth floor of CNU and it's really very very secured as if something is very important there.. There are so many cameras, and also, the fences inside are in layers.. Meaning, there's an outer perimeter fence outside, then if you go inside, there's another fence , etc..etc..

Meaning, there's an outer perimeter fence outside, then if you go inside, there's another fence , etc..etc..

no more unfinished bldg? did u mean the bldg was recently completed? or was it demolished or sumthin like that?

really? ako ka experience nuon ko several times na but not greater than magnitude 3 or 4 like the strongest was wayback 1993 if I'm not mistaken, when I and my cousin were inside the ice skating rink of SM City Cebu and suddenly the ground shook quite strong, as usual everyone ran for their lives going outside the mall coz Cebu is not an earthquake zone so people were anxious at that time...

@Slerz: Thanks for reminding me that SM City Cebu did have a skating rink. BTW, when did they close it? I think we need one these days. ;)

DENR okays $272-M coal-fired
power plant project

DESPITE strong opposition from some environment groups and provincial legislators, the Department of Environment and Natural Resources has approved the environmental compliance certificates of two 100-megawatt coal-fired plants that would rise in Naga town, Cebu.

"With the issuance of this ECC, you are expected to implement measures that would protect or enhance the environment, and mitigate the project's adverse impacts, including those on the health and welfare of the community," Environment Secretary Michael Defensor told Salcon Power Corp. in the documents that came out on Dec. 5.

In a letter to Dennis Villareal, president of Salcon, one of the proponents of the power project, Defensor said his department would conduct periodic and on-the-spot monitoring of the project to ensure compliance to the conditions of the certificates.

William Conado, chief of the DENR-7 environmental impact assessment division, yesterday said Salcon had satisfactorily complied with the requirements, especially with the environment impact study.
"(It) has complied with the requirements and the mitigating measures are all identified and adequate. The issue of air, water pollution, as well as health problems are well addressed," Conado said.

Should Salcon and its partner, the Korean Electric Power Corp., fail to comply with the conditions, they may be fined or their ECCs may be suspended or revoked, Conado said.

In a separate interview, Salcon administration manager Raul Estrillioso said the project would start early next year.

The $272-million project will be launched on Friday without the presence of President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo and her counterpart from South Korea.

The Cebu Provincial Board has also announced plans of snubbing the groundbreaking because proponents of the project did not secure its blessings.

"We do not want to comment on the planned boycott by the members of the Cebu Provincial Board of our groundbreaking ceremony," Guillermo Dabay, Kepco general manager for legal and external affairs, said in a statement.

Dabay clarified, however, that Kepco and Salcon intended to "complete all consents and permits for the project implementation."

"This includes obtaining all project endorsements from the relevant local government units as may be necessary pursuant to existing laws," he said. "For the purposes of the issuance of the ECC, we have already completed the requirements."

Provincial Board Member Jose Maria Gastardo, meanwhile, expressed disappointment over Dabay's statement.

"With that statement of Kepco that they will seek endorsement only from relevant local government units, they are also implying that the provincial government is irrelevant in this case because they no longer need to secure our approval," Gastardo said.

Gastardo asked about the project last Monday's session after he received an invitation to the groundbreaking rites.

Victor Maambong, head of the committee on environment, said the matter was rendered moot and academic because his committee had yet to finish public hearings on the power project.

At the last public hearing early this month, environmental activists told board members that Kepco was not registered with the SEC. To date, there has been no confirmation from Kepco.

"Maybe Kepco feels that all they need is an endorsement from Malacañang," Gastardo said.

Both Gastardo and Maambong insist the project needed an endorsement from the Provincial Board under the Local Government Code.

"We will wait for the copy of DENR's opinion and review of the ECC and the processes by which it was conducted," Maambong said. "We will ask all board members to take a stand in the Monday session. "

Huge backdrops banned
from Sinulog '06 parade

HUGE backdrops and props would no longer be allowed during the stage performances of next year's Sinulog parade, according to Sinulog Project Director Dolores Suzara.

Suzara said the Sinulog Foundation Inc. (SFI) judges had come up with this new rule to avoid backstage chaos and to prevent the backdrop from taking attention away from the performances.

"Everything should be hand-carried. Contingents that violate this rule will be penalized 20 percent of their score," Suzara said.

The Sinulog, a mardi gras celebrated in Cebu every third Sunday of the year, is held in honor of the Child Jesus or Sto. Niño.

Suzara said that in previous years, backdrops and props only comprised 10 percent of the total score. She noted, however, that so much effort was placed on making huge backdrops that it sometimes tends to draw attention away from the performance, which makes up most of the score a contingent earns.
"Maka-overshadow man gud sa kanindot sa sayaw (It overshadows the beauty of the dance)," she said. "Anyway, ang hukman mao man ang ilang interpretation sa sayaw (What's judged is how they interpret the dance)."

Suzara said the foundation had also decided on other changes.

The different contingents are now only allowed to perform ritual presentation twice along the parade route: Once at 10 a.m., and another shortly after noon.

She said participating contingents have already been informed about the changes.

Another change: There would no longer be any Cebuanos among the judges.

Suzara said this was to make sure no questions would be raised against the judges, who may be accused of bias for their hometown.

Other aspects of the parade, she said, have changed little.

She said the parade route would be the same as the last Sinulog, except that replicas of 10 historical Cebu landmarks would now dot the parade route.

Prizes would be the same as the last Sinulog: P500,000 for the first prize, P300,000 for the second prize, P200,000 for third, P150,000 for fourth, and P100,000 for fifth, in both the Sinulog-based category and free interpretation category.

The original masterplan states some high-rises, a mall and some more amenities would be placed...In the new masterplan, accdng to Gaisano, the mall component of the area will still be present.

grabeha no 1 billion. the entire sm cebu cost 1 billion to construct it. so 10 years ago, if we had that same amount of cash, cebu would have built a stadium.

malaysia spent 4 billion in their hosting ('hinoon' the first east asian summit was also held there). if that same amount will be poured into cebu, it sure will give a major facelift in our current infrastructure.

im sure if the megadome will be the main venue of the asean summit, it will create a rippling effect in the construction buildings there especially the cebu boardwalk, the korean hotel and dog-racing track.

also, the recent asean summit which is held at kuala lumpur is very sensational here in japan. every news program features it; it is something that the japanese people give attention. definitely, when cebu takes its turn to host the summit, we will be featured. eyes will be on us by then. the attendance of the prime minister of the wold's second biggest economy will make it more sizzling.

- soon to become the country's premier international airport
- the only "earning" and "real" international airport in the country aside from the NAIA
- the country's second largest major gateway to Asia and the world;
- in the next three years, construction of a P1 billion Terminal II and a second parallel runway will begin

are there any renderings of the new terminal yet and plans/layouts of how the new runway will look like?

The one in Pardo is only the Church and that skywalk... CIT and SIT are along N Bacalso ave. about 3-4 klms away from Pardo. SIT is a nautical school, it's CIT that excel in engineering and is a close rival of Mapua interms of top board examinees... they're just excellent when it comes to engineering.

it's a bit raining now but I can see a beautiful fireworks fronting uptown, I dunno howd they've done that inspite of the rain. Well, rain cannot stop Christmas so maayong buntag udto kadlawn mga higala, Pasko na oi:D

hehe, luspad na lage kayo tanawon ang simbahan sa Pardo. Pero, why havent they started putting up Christmas lights? Usually by this time the whole church would have been covered by Christmas lights, including the Nativity Scene, which i think they would put to the right of the church. It would be great to look at especially during Misa de Galleo when its still dark out, the magnificent sight would certainly wake anyone up, (hehe sauna cge lang ko kalate misa de galleo bisan nara St Jude amo balay, so adto ra ko tindog sa gawas pirmi, malingaw nalang ko ug tanaw sa mga decoracion, pampawa tulog) I can also see that the sidewalk in front of Pardo church and Holy Cross already has a barrier inorder to force people to use the skywalk, although i have a feeling its still not stopping people from crossing the street. Yup you're right, as usuall thousands of Christmas lights lighted our Church... bag o lang ko abot gikan Misa de Galleo og pariha ta I was just at the plaza standing kay people swelled and the hundreds of Christmas lights on trees from skywalk side circling the church made me awake all the time a while ago. Yup, there's already railings tungod sa skywalk and that side of the road beside the churches' fence was already paved... daghan man ghapon mngagi sa ubos that if there's no vehicles along the road but if there are too many, kasabot naman sila og adto jd mo agi sa babaw kay basig silay sunod mamatay, it is proven na rba diha nga accident prone area...

CCCI to instill culture of tourism in Cebuanos

The Cebu Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCCI) is determined to instill the culture of tourism in Cebu to enhance Cebu’s potential to be a hub for both local and foreign tourists.

“This (instilling the culture of tourism) is not easily achieved. This is not an overnight job. It will be a slow process but the evolution of the culture of tourism will happen,” culture of tourism sector of the CCCI tourism committee chairperson Mila Espina said.

“We believe that tourism is everybody’s business—drivers, vendors, street cleaners, tour guides, schools, politicians, families and every sector of the community,” she added.

Espina told a press conference during CCCI’s yearend press briefing at the City Sports Club Cebu yesterday that the culture of tourism is the foundation for every dimension of tourism. It permeates, syner-gizes and binds every element from the grass roots to the top stakeholders.

Tourism, along with information and communications technology, are Cebu’s champion sectors identified by the CCCI.
Accelerate

CCCI president Robert Go said there is a need to develop the culture of tourism because this helps increase tourism arrivals in the province, thereby accelerating business and investment

“The culture of tourism enables Cebu to compete globally and capture the international market and, most of all, it will enhance the best image of Cebu and cultivate the Filipino identity and pride in the Filipino,” he said.

Espina said the CCCI will continue implementing this project next year.

The culture of tourism project began in July this year when Talisay Councilor Shirley Belleza conducted an exploratory forum on the culture of tourism, which had a multi-sectoral participation from the highest to the lowest stakeholders in Talisay City.

It was then followed by a culture of tourism forum held in Cebu City in October.

This was participated in by representatives of various government and private institutions, such as the Department of Tourism, Women in Travel-Cebu and key players from the port area, vendors, drivers, tour guides, hoteliers and tour operators, among others.

@CwEoBwU: So you're currently in Japan pala? :)

yes, i am in tokyo. i am very much into the current developments of cebu and was so thankful when i encountered this forum. before, i used to just ask my friends there in cebu to take pictures of current trends and developments there, but they're not so fascinated with buildings, whatsoever.

this has got all i wanted, pictures, buildings, infrastructure, etc... cebu's pride. and all are very current and up-to-date.

cebu is really nice. panindoton lang ang mga dan nato, it could rival other rich cities in the world. it has everything, beach, mountains, business, entertainment, the people. it may not be as big, as upbeat, and as developed as tokyo, but is has got lots of things to offer.

i'd have to say, cebu is better than sta.barbara california, the city where michael jackson lives. whoever wants to object, go there and find out. hahahahaha...

and cebu is pretty famous here especially shangri-la mactan. my boss always thought that cebu is nothing until he went there. he never thought we had a grand mall like ayala and a starbucks. i haven't seen bigger malls in tokyo than ours, never...

RP hotels top survey on customer satisfaction
Manila Bulletin

Philippine hotels offer no less than the best services.

This is the result of the latest survey posted at ehotelier.com, the most popular website for tourism and hotel executives.

Based on the Market Metrix Hospitality Index, which covered 35,000 in-depth consumer interviews, the Philippine hotels ranked number one with a score of 89.9 percent in the list of non-US hotels that deliver premier level of contentment to guests.

Other countries included in the top five list and were also given acknowledgement for delivering memorable hotel experience are Brazil (88.9%), Greece (88.3%), Singapore (87.9%), and South Korea (87.5%).

Among the categories, in which Philippines topped, were "Friendliness of reservation agent," "Efficient check-in," and "Employees’ ‘can-do’ attitude."

The survey examined how countries, hotel brands, and guests differ across the global hotel industry. It likewise covered airline and car rental companies.

Tourism Secretary Ace Durano stated, "The outcome shows us a fascinating glimpse of what Philippine tourism is all about. It only goes to prove how we put high premium and value to all our visitors. There is always the commitment to give leisure and business travelers superior overseas experience when they are in the islands."

This interesting development is being associated to the consistent growth rate of tourist arrivals that the Philippines has been receiving, specifically from the North American region, which has posted an increase of 11.9% based on the latest statistics * from last year’s 396,185 travelers to 2005’s 443,184 for the period of January to September. The arrivals from the United States remain to be the country’s top source market.

really? Tokyo is like the status of Cebu 20 years back? Looks like we're getin there slowly:okay:

As for Cebu's condition now, it has many developments such as high rises, condos, malls but not only that the people here are doing their part or excited ba pariha nato tungod kay proud kaayo ta sa atong ciudad bahala nang di ka tog para lang jd ma aim our dreams for our city to be on a top spot which I don't see in other cities, daghan tuod silag developments but they're not as stimulated as the people of Cebu and to think that we're still in a crisis how much kung maka haw as nata sa crisis...it's really a complement on our part.

TWO CITIES VIEW FOR MEGADOME
Osmeña offers Cebu City
but will Mandaue agree?

by Kathy I. Navarro

CEBU City is now vying for the location of the proposed P250-million Megadome whose construction may be rushed to serve as the venue of the ASEAN summit next year.

Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia surprised many by her recent announcement in Kuala Lumpur that she wants the Megadome built and ready for use in Mandaue City as the summit venue in 2006.
Cebu City Mayor Tomas Osmeña sprung another surprise by offering to give the provincial government 2.1 hectares "for free" in the still-idle South Reclamation Project to put up the building.

Osmeña said he made the offer to the governor during their observation trip to Malaysia. The two returned to Cebu with other members of the Cebu delegation Wednesday night.

This puts Garcia in a position of having to choose between offers of two allies - Osmeña and Mandaue City Mayor Teddy Ouano, who helped identify the 4.3-hectare vacant lot in Mandaue City's North Reclamation Area.

No time

Some Capitol officials, including the governor's younger brother and consultant Pablo John, recently said there wasn't enough time to build the superstructure or equip it for the December 2006 international summit.

Other voices in the Provincial Board questioned the priority of building the Megadome over other urgent needs for school houses and hospitals in the province.

Governor Garcia said she would comment on the Mayor Osmeña's new offer and her ambitious target later today.

Last week the Capitol was still reviewing its unpaid obligation of P18.5 million to the designer of the proposed Megadome, architect Alexius Medalla whose "spinning disc" concept won a major design contest mounted by the province for the project in 2003.

Controversies and debate have followed the Megadome ever since the idea of a world-class venue for international sports competitions and conferences in Cebu was first endorsed by Gwen's predecessor, her father Pablo.

No profit

Mayor Osmeña said Cebu City would not make any profit on the offer to have the Megadome built in the SRP: "No, we don't get anything. Hatag lang (we're giving it)."

"I told her (gov. Garcia) if you want, I can give space at SRP, you can put it there if you want." The offer is subject to the approval of the City Council, he qualified.

"The city gets nothing, but it's all right as long as Talisay does not get anything. We are generous to our neighbors but not those who are mean to us," he added, referring to Talisay City officials and first district Congressman Eduardo Gullas.

The Mandaue City north reclamation area was the initial site of the Megadome, a pet project of Governor Garcia. She pushed for it despite opposition from some provincial legislators.

About P250 million has already been earmarked for the project in a supplemental budget last year.

However, because of the uncertainty of its implementation, the space in Mandaue was committed for another project, the Center for International Trade and Exposition (CITEX) formerly called the Cebu International Trade and Exhibition Center (CITEC).

The P584-million project will be built under the NEDA administered Project Development and Monitoring Fund administered by the National Economic Development Authority (NEDA). This was already approved by the Regional Development Council.

ASEAN summit to boost
Cebu economy - CCCI

by Irene R. Sino Cruz

THE hosting of the ASEAN Summit would boost Cebu's economy, particularly the tourism sector, in 2006, said Cebu Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCCI) president Robert Go.

According to Go, the preparation for the summit alone would pour in a sizeable amount into the Cebu economy.

The national government has allocated P1 billion budget for the summit, including the widening of roads and the building of infrastructure requirements for the summit, he said during the CCCI year-end briefing held yesterday.
Since international airlines are expected to bring in either chartered or increased regular flights, Go said the Mactan Cebu International Airport (MCIA) needed to upgrade facilities or make provisions to accommodate additional number of planes that would land at the airport.

He said about 17 Boeing 747 planes are expected to come to Cebu to carry the heads of states of ASEAN members and seven other non-member nations.

There is also a need to identify which hotels could provide the quality of accommodation needed for heads of states who would be attending the summit.

Of the 17 heads of states who are expected to come, eight would be billeted at the Shangri-La's Mactan Island Resort. Three would be housed at the Cebu Hilton Hotel and Resort, Go said.
The rest may be billeted at Marco Polo Plaza, Waterfront Cebu City Hotel and Plantation Bay. "But these hotels have to meet the required standards," Go added.

To transport the heads of states from the hotels to the venue, the private sector would be tapped for the luxury vehicles, Go said.

"We would need at least 17, at most, 20 top-of-the line vehicles," he said.

One option being considered, he said, is for the government to auction to the private sector the tax-free acquisition of the required vehicles that would be loaned to the government for the use of the heads of state.

Aside from holding the distinction of owning a vehicle used by the heads of state, he said, the owner would be allowed to retain the license plate for five years.

Cebu would also need 50 second-line vehicles, 200 3rd-line and 200 high-end vans for the transportation requirements of the other delegates.

Aside from the summit, which would be held in Dec. 11 to 13, 2006, 54 of 75 pre-summit conferences would be held in Cebu starting July 2006, he said. Some roads in Metro Cebu would also undergo widening.

On the other hand, Go said, Cebu City Mayor Tomas R. Osmeña has offered the South Road Properties (formerly called the South Reclamation Project) as the site for a new convention center.

However, he said this was just one of the options being studied as far as the venue for the summit is concerned.

"The year 2006 would be a better year than 2005," Go said, adding that the ASEAN Summit would also boost the tourism industry in Cebu.

He said the delegates of the various pre-summit conferences and the actual summit would be a good way to promote Cebu.

Go said this is the best time for Cebu and the Cebuanos to showcase the place as a tourist destination and a tourist-friendly place.

The recent summit, which was attended by 10 ASEAN member countries as well as Japan, China, India, South Korea, Australia and New Zealand and Russia, resulted in a vision of an East Asian community that covers India to New Zealand.

@ashton

Yup I saw that advertisement wherein there was supposed to be a Marriot resort in Mactan and a Marriot Hotel in MANILA... but up to now wala pa... Maybe in the distant future, who knows, nothing is impossible right now..

@richard fischer

No renderings yet since the proposal is still with the design team.. Maybe after they finalize the design, etc..etc.. The last time that the manager was interviewed (almost a month ago) he said that the design process would take at least 6 months..

@markiiboi

agree ko anang Hotel survey bai... Been to other countries and some of the concierge are really not very hospitable (except on big-time hotels like Shangri-La or Holiday-Inn)... As if wala sila ni-agi ug customer service seminar.....

.... I'd like to make a correction with my previous post, it's not the President of the Federal Republic of Germany, it's the President of Germany (WEST I think)... He came to Cebu to inagurate the USC-TC in Talamban before since the SVD is a German catholic order....

there is no such thing as Presdent of East or West germany the berlin wall already fall for like decades ago so now they only have one Republic president now for the whole land ;) :) i forgot her name ;) but i know it cuz Austria is juz beside Germany :)

TWO CITIES VIEW FOR MEGADOME
Osmeña offers Cebu City
but will Mandaue agree?
