gi develop ba nila ang entire complex? or ang katu ra nga building?
Sinjin P. December 23rd, 2005, 06:19 AM I just read an article yesterday comparing Cebu with Phuket.
Cebu has 7,000 hotel rooms while Phuket has 50,000+ rooms daw.
And, it was specified there that CEBU's ACCOMODATION is too expensive.
PhP2000 in Cebu would get you to nothing while PhP2000 in Phuket would bring you to a decent hotel.
LordCarnal December 23rd, 2005, 06:37 AM Yeah that's right sinjin...
In Bangkok, we stayed in a hotel (Baiyoke Hotel) for around US$30 per day... and imagine, it was not just a room, it was like a suite..! naay kitchen, naay separate living room, tapos naay separate two-bed bedroom.... and it's just around US$30 per day....
sloid December 23rd, 2005, 06:41 AM ^ Holy crap that is cheap!!! Isn't Baiyoke Bangkok's tallest Hotel?
LordCarnal December 23rd, 2005, 06:48 AM Nope, I was referring to the old Baiyoke.... the one beside the Tallest (Baiyoke II)
The accomodation was really so nice... My room was more of like a fully-furnished condominium.... imagine, it has a kitchen, a small dining table, a sala set with TV... tapos there's a separate bedroom (2 beds)....
And I was all alone in that unit..! my sister and mother where billeted at the room next to mine, because when we booked for it here in Cebu, we thought that the said room was small (like the cheap hotels in Hongkong) so we made spearate reservations nalang.....
How I wish the hotels in Cebu could lower their rates so as to attract more tourists... I'm also confused as to why these budget airlines now operating in Clark are not yet operating here in Cebu...
Ahah, I also remembered during the ATF that was held in Cebu... A Malaysian complained that his hotel room was so expensive... He said that a three-star hotel rate in Cebu could already get him a five-star accomodation rate in his country....
slerz December 23rd, 2005, 06:56 AM As of now, Hotels here in Cebu will still be expensive coz of the damand and less competition but when more hotels will come in, for sure those expensive hotels will likely go down as a result to competition... Now, Cebu is already nearing towards that scenario..

LordCarnal December 23rd, 2005, 08:29 AM For those who are not familiar with Cebu yet, here are some facts:
1.) Cebu City is not a part of Cebu Province.. It is in fact a separate political unit although the Capitol is located in the city itself since before the Marcos regime, the city was part of the province. It was President Marcos himself who separated the city from the province. Highly urbanized and component cities that are part of the province are Mandaue, Lapu-lapu, Toledo, Talisay, and Danao.
Residents of Cebu City therefore cannot vote for provincial candidates but residents of Mandaue, Lapu-lapu, and Talisay cities can!
I guess other cities that are not a part of a province are Metro Manila itself, and I guess Davao City..
The correct address when writing to someone in Cebu City would be:
Juan Dela Cruz
Pardo, Cebu City 6000
Philippines
--AND NOT--
Juan Dela Cruz
Pardo, Cebu City, Cebu
Philippines
2.) During the early 1990s, there was a plan of then Governor Lito O to carve out a separate "Capital District" in Cebu; in this case Barangay Capitol of Cebu City, where the Provincial Capitol stands.. The district would be equal to a municipality but would be under the direct supervision of the governor or an appointed administrator and not necessarily a mayor or barangay captain.
However, this plan was shelved because some argued that it would reduce Cebu City's land area, and also demote Barangay Capitol to nothing else.. Also during that time, the issue whether Talisay should be stitched back to Cebu City was also brewing (Cebu City officials wanted Talisay to be a part of Cebu City, but Talisay officials woudn't want their place to be demoted from a first class Municipality to a mere barangay. Talisay was not yet a city that time.)
The plan was therefore shifted to transferring the capital to Balamban town in the west coast. But financial constraints and a lack of a feasibility study hindered it..
3.) Even if Cebu City is not a part of the province politically, it is still very much a part of it hypothetically in the sense that the two are working together for the common good of its people.. :) In fact, the international airport is located in Lapu2x, a part of the province. And so with the other economic zones that has greatly played a role in making this province and city great.. :)
4.) If Cebu City is the second largest city in the Philippines, then why does it only have a population of over 600,000 while others have almost 1,000,000??
--> This population figures thing is actually very, very important in determinig the feasibility of certain projects like the LRT, a mass transport system like a Bus system, etc..etc... Actually, the 600,000++ figures refer only to the "registered residents" of Cebu City. If we speak of daytime population, that could swell to more than a million. Most of those who work (and live) in Cebu City are actually "registered residents" of other places in the metro area (even to as far as Danao City in the north, or to Carcar down south).. Thus it is highly usual especially during elections for some people to "go home" to their respective hometowns (Bogo, Sogod, Danao) just to vote..!
manileño December 23rd, 2005, 08:38 AM Politics and Local Administration in Phil really suck.
How can Cebu City be out of Cebu Province? :) It may not be under Provincial Admin, it still is within the provincial territory. New York City is in New York State!!

I totally agree with you.. This was actually a product of President Marcos' greediness to get a vote..
Our present Mayor himself is very much in favor of fusing the two again... Because two entities fused together can really make a difference..
It's so sad to note that right now there are politicians who want to break the province into several more provinces for the so-called "fast delivery of basic services."
What they don't know is that more provinces would equal to more spending by the national government.
I remember Nick Joaquin's article where he lamented that here in Philippines, most of our leaders (and the people) always think small. They are always not up for a challenge maybe because they cannot prove their worth. Thus we see a city divided into two separate cities or a province divided into several provinces because politicians complain that their entities are too big to govern.. Too big to govern? The islands of Samar, Cebu or Panay are not even half of California even if combined together. Such an attitude has also invaded our minds especially with the "bahala na" attitude. The article goes that Filipinos are just satisfied of having Rizal's two great books but yet do not aspire to have someone as great as Shakespeare, or Mark Twain..! Or just be satisfied with having great Filipino artists but yet do not aspire to have a Pavarotti... or worst look at awe with new buildings constructed but forget once great works of art (like the Met!)... :)

CEBU CITY is A PART OF CEBU PROVINCE AND INDEED, it is the CITY CAPITAL OF CEBU PROVINCE. lol. Where did you get that? :?
LordCarnal December 23rd, 2005, 08:53 AM nope sinjin, it is not.. although it is the province's capital since the capitol is located here.. Blame this to Marcos himself, out of his greediness for votes.. :)
registered residents of Cebu City cannot even vote for provincial candidates like Governor, etc..
Jefferyi December 23rd, 2005, 08:54 AM Dang, 12the already??!Keep them pics coming sugbuanon. Hey is Banilad Town Center the old Foodland?

That I don't have anymore idea bai... because previously, di jud mi ka vote... si sugbuanon gani wala pod daw siya ka vote..
But it's nice to know that right now, whenever there's an event, you will always see the mayor and the governor side by side.. now that's what I call a real partnership.. :
@sugbuanon

Yes, you are correct with this address thingy because ZIP CODES are only for the cities. Provinces do not have a zip code...That's why, the province's name is generally omitted when you write the address on your envelope.
anyway,
Cebu City is the capital of the province of Cebu in the Philippines and is the second most important metropolitan center in the country. The city lies on the eastern shore of the island of Cebu and is the oldest city in the country, even older than the nation's capital, Manila. Cebu is one of the main hubs of international flights into the country and is the most important center of commerce, trade, and industry in the Visayas and Mindanao parts of the country. It is because of this and other important aspects that Cebu City was given the monicker Queen City of the South. According to the 2000 census, it has a population of 718,821 people in 147,600 households.

I hope things are cleared up. Aside from the cities in NCR, there are no other cities or municipalities in the Philippines that are stand-alone and do not belong to a respective province.

that's nice na bai nga naapil na jud ang Cebu City dha sa website.. that proves that everyone is working for a One Cebu.. la man ko nakiglalis... hehehe.. Actually, during the Marcos regime, he separated the city from the province (politically and not physically) in order to get more votes since the province was controlled by his enemy (Serging)... I dunno the set-up now but politically, it is still separated... Thus if you have observed, the province is hands off on many projects of the city like the SRP, flyovers, etc... No city officials also (from councilor to mayor) have even run for provincial office (except for those who have transferred their registration to a component city of the province like Gabby Leyson who is planning to run for Talisay mayor.)
nobody actually likes to be separate thus during the height of the Sugbuak issue, everyone proved that Cebu can work together as one (unlike those greedy politicians who want to break it up, including former President Marcos himself). Thus in every event like the SEAG and even during the Cebu Province anniversary, we always see the governor and mayor together because that's what we want to project to others, that we can work together for progress. :)
But it's nice to note that everyone is really moving forward as one, except those who are in favor of the Sugbuak like Clavel martinez..
Sinjin P. December 23rd, 2005, 09:40 AM ^^Okay, basig gibalik na ni Cory ang Cebu City sa Cebu Province in the 1987 Constitution.
But as far as I've noticed during the canvassing of the votes in Congress (hehe, Whole day jud ko mag-atang sa ANC), I am seeing that votes from Cebu City are counted different from the votes in Cebu Province...
EDIT: Ay, basig ang imong buot ipasabot kay ang COUNTING OF VOTES lang moy giseparate. ;)
LordCarnal December 23rd, 2005, 09:48 AM ok.. :)
I just viewed the provincial website, it's nice to know (or is it nice ba) that our population is more than 3 million already? hehehe
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Here's some from the website:
The economic success of Cebu is the result of positioning, serious, planning, an industrious population and local governments who understand the needs of business.
This success will continue, and to facilitate this growth, infrastructure projects are being implemented now.
The connection of Cebu to geothermal power grids from neighboring islands will ensure that supply of cost effective and reliable electricity will continue.
The contruction of dams at strategic sites will maintain adequate water supplies.
New road contruction projects will improve access and continuing program of road widening and bridge construction will keep traffic moving.
Onoing investment in world class accomodation will ensure that Cebu emerges as the preferred Tourist and Convention destination in the region.
Most importantly, the development of more special economic zones with incentives for investors ensures industry will continue to profit by being based in Cebu, the Philippines' best seller.
Astute investors will position themselves to take advantage of benefits of Cebu.
Sinjin P. December 23rd, 2005, 09:50 AM ^^Nice gyud. :D Anyway, I think the provincial website isn't that updated too much because AFAIK, morag hapit na mo 4million atong pop.
LordCarnal December 23rd, 2005, 09:58 AM Years ago, a bill was filed by Rep. del Mar in Congress calling for the creation of a Metro Cebu Development Authority. This body, similar to Manila's MMDA, would oversee the development of the entire metro itself.. However some suggested that instead of the MCDA, a Cebu Development Authority (CDA) be created instead. And this body would not only oversee the metro's development but the entire island itself.!
Some experts have forcasted that in the years to come, the development would not just be focused on Cebu City alone. If a development authority is not institutionalized, problems (like in decision making) might arise especially with the growing demands for power, water, and other natural resources.

Sinjin P. December 23rd, 2005, 11:13 AM P2-B Capitol budget approved
MASSIVE road projects top the list of projects to be financed by Cebu province in 2006 with the approval of the P2 billion budget during a special Provincial Board session yesterday.
The proposed 2006 budget is P310 million more than the P1.7 billion budget this year.
A total of P520 million will be spent for various road and bridge projects of Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia.
Garcia has, as an election promise, vowed to construct at least 150 kilometers of road in the towns.
Local government units also stand to receive financial assistance amounting to P287 million.
Health services came in as the recipient of the third highest allocation with P153 million set for the purchase of health insurance, medicines, supplies, as well as improvement of district hospitals.
With only minor amendments, the budget was approved by nine board members out of the 10 legislators present during the special sessions.
Board Member Raul Bacaltos, the only opposition member present, abstained during the voting. "There were flaws in the procedure," he said.
The proposed appropriation, he said, did not pass a budget hearing and was not covered by a committee report.
Bacaltos asked the most questions of the budget during the sessions.
Governor Garcia submitted Cebu Province's largest-ever annual budget to the board last October. It was referred to the committee on budget chaired by opposition member Gabriel Luis Quisumbing.
Quisumbing failed to conduct budget hearings three times because of difficulties in mustering a quorum.
Allied members of the governor voted to discuss the budget during last Monday's sessions prompting opposition members to walk out.
The other board members then scheduled a special session that paved the way for the budget's approval yesterday.

slerz December 23rd, 2005, 01:05 PM @mike... upto now, Cebu City is out of the jurisdiction of the Cebu Province...
Cebu City is independent and is not part of the jurisdiction of Cebu Province.
Cebu City residents cannot vote for a Cebu Governor, Cebu V Governors etc.
We can only vote for our Cebu City mayor, Cebu City Councilors but cannot for Cebu Province political candidates.
Cebu City is the capital of Cebu Province but it's only for the name... but if we base it from theconstitution, Cebu is not part of Cebu Province.
Dugay dugay man gani na gilalisan every aniversary sa pagka province sa Cebu province kay sa una ig aniversary sa province of Cebu, holiday ang whole Cebu Province except Cebu City but now giapil nalang og holiday ang Cebu City ig aniversary sa Cebu Province kay kasagaran nanrabaho sa Cebu City taga Cebu province man so wa gihapoy bili ang holiday sa Cebu Province kay more than 50% molupyo sa Cebu province ari man trabaho sa Cebu City. But upto now ig duol duol nasad ang aniversary sa Cebu prov sa iyang pagka province kay mo andar nasad ang lalis..hehe

Tell her that she's wrong... my father confirmed me about it coz he's still part of Cebu City government and budget wise, they're the one who budgets Cebu City projects and also they're the one who budgets the salaries of Cebu City gov't employees and they are totally hands off the budget of Cebu Capitol. Totaly separate. but still Cebu City is the capital of Cebu Prov. :)

slimer December 23rd, 2005, 04:35 PM bai arnold tudlu-e nya ko unsaon pagnight mode ani ako cam beh..
you'd better use a tripod or a steady hand when taking pictures at night.
night mode setting is usually represented with a half-moon icon (with a human-form).
i'd say tripod is necessary since during night-time the camera senses the brightness condition of the surrounding so it sets its exposure time longer.

sugbuanon December 23rd, 2005, 09:32 PM you'd better use a tripod or a steady hand when taking pictures at night.
night mode setting is usually represented with a half-moon icon (with a human-form).
i'd say tripod is necessary since during night-time the camera senses the brightness condition of the surrounding so it sets its exposure time longer.
btw, it says here that i "may not post attachment" and i have some pix to share with you. what should i do.
thanks.
thanx slimer.. welcome to SSC bai. cant wait to see those pics of yours..

We will still keep this thread series, but concentrate it on city issues and infrastructure.
sugbuanon December 23rd, 2005, 09:53 PM Citec task force yields to megadome project
THE Cebu International Trade and Exhibition Center (Citec) task force has surrendered its claim over the 13,000-square-meter lot in the North Reclamation Area, which has been identified as site of the Provincial Government’s megadome project.
“The megadome, as it was presented, is a good project. We (task force) welcome this development. We have already talked with Mayor (Thadeo) Ouano on this matter. He knows that we are still getting funding for Citec. But we are optimistic that we will get more funding in the first quarter of next year,” task force chairman Agustin Palao said.
Offer
During a forum on the establishment of the Citec in 2002, Mandaue City Mayor Ouano offered the lot occupied by the unfinished Uniwide building as site of Citec.
But the mayor offered the same lot to be the site of Capitol’s P250-million megadome project.
Cebu Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia earlier confirmed that the megadome will be constructed next year in preparation for the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (Asean) summit in December 2006 on the Mandaue City lot.
Since the Province already has the funding for the megadome, Palao said the task force cannot do anything more but hope that the megadome or the Cebu International Convention Center will be redesigned in such a way that its plenary halls and meeting rooms can be converted into exhibition centers.
“We really need more exhibition centers,” he told Sun.Star Cebu.
Dream
The proposed 4,000 square-meter Citec, which will serve the trade and exhibition needs of Visayas and Mindanao, is a long-standing dream of the Cebu business community. It was first proposed in 1995.
The Citec task force, which was organized in 2002, is an ad hoc body composed of business organizations and selected line agencies, such as the Cebu Furniture Industries Foundation Inc., Cebu Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Philexport-Cebu, European Chamber of Commerce of the Philippines, Department of Science and Technology and the Department of Trade and Industry.
Funding
Palao said the National Economic and Development Authority (Neda) has already endorsed the Citec project to the Japan International Cooperation Agency (Jica) for a funding of half a billion pesos.
“But we are hoping that we will be able to convince Jica to increase the funding to, if possible, a billion pesos so that we can increase the area. Size matters in this project. The bigger the exhibition center, the (more) usable it is,” he said.
The Neda is the government agency tasked to approve projects worthy of funding.
Palao said the task force also hopes that the Province’s megadome project will be “expandable” so that the Citec could serve as an expansion and be constructed next to it.
“Rather than have two small separate structures, it would be better to combine the two because both projects could complement each other,” he said. (JBN)

A friend of mine who has a Korean girlfriend revealed most Korean Tourists in Cebu don't know they are in the PHILIPPINES! shocking? Most of them fly to Cebu thru Chartered flights. Destination: Cebu. Travel agencies in Korea offers Cebu Packages and never mention the word "PHILIPPINES". that's how they market Cebu, an island in the pacific.
Now i have a strong feeling this was also the case of the Japanese tourists back then. I remember one forumer mentioned most Japanese in Cebu specifically Mactan only knew Cebu as a separate/independent country!

rustyboi December 24th, 2005, 12:36 AM P2-B Capitol budget approved
The other board members then scheduled a special session that paved the way for the budget's approval yesterday.

queetz@home December 24th, 2005, 01:28 AM ^ That is a wonderful idea, GreyX. Its so hard to follow what's going on in Cebu given the current pace of these never stopping "Welcome to Cebu" threads. ryanr December 24th, 2005, 01:30 AM I know...and its a headache to moderate the Cebu threads because of its pace.

LordCarnal December 24th, 2005, 05:29 AM It's in today's issue of Sunstar but was not published in the website:
1.) Construction of the additional ramps, parking spaces, etc will begin first quarter of 2006
2.) DFA Undersecretary Benedicto, a Cebuano, will hold office in Cebu in order to oversee the preparations for the upcoming ASEAN Summit next year. He will coordinate with the MCIAA, the DOT, the Bureau of Quarantine, PNP, etc..etc..
3.) Construction of a parallel runway will also commence starting next year. The second runway will serve as an emergency runway for aircrafts during the summit (?).
There was no mention of the Terminal II, but I guess the said projects above are more urgent for the ASEAN Summit.. The Terminal II could just follow, although the target date of its construction would also be next year (and will be finished in 3 years).

The Cathedral has, Richard.. It's located a block away from the Santo Nino Basilica..
The Basilica once had a plaza (similar to the Cathedral's) complete with a fountain, some trees (Palm), and benches.. However, since the Basilica was designated as a pilgrim center, the plaza in front was converted into a Santo Nino Pilgrim Center in order to answer the swelling number of people coming from different parts of the Philippines (and even the world). It's actually more of an "open air" church with an altar and retablo and stadium-type benches..
Here are some pictures of the Cathedral:

Have you seen pictures of Fort San Pedro? I'm reposting it again, here they are:
The Fort is actually a favorite place for garden weddings and other special events.

And here's a view of Cebu City almost five years ago.. It's nice to know that the original planners of Cebu actually intended it to become a "Garden City" (dunno if they have achieved this endeavor right now)... This is the reason why we see center-islands with all those "Indian Trees" and as to why Osmena Boulevard is lined with all those mahogany and acacia trees... Hehe, sad to say, our officials throughout the years have not lived up to the expectations of those visionaries.
http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b396/arnoldsa/jungle08.jpg
LordCarnal December 24th, 2005, 05:54 AM I've made some research and I found out that the North Reclamation Area was actually intended to become a "Cebu Port Centre." Pretty much like a central business park like the existing Cebu Business Park of the Ayalas.. It was ruled that whoever would buy land at the said center should start construction of a building within seven months.. The center was also envisioned to have theaters, commercial centers, and even parks... Sad to say, it has not been realized... It would have become Cebu City's answer to Roxas Boulevard of Manila.. Right now, it is swarmed with squatters and dilapidated roads thanks to our city official's insensitiveness.
Though fortunately, the entry of SM City Mall and Sheraton Hotel and the development of the Cebu north road connecting with the subway tunnel towards the SRP, is giving life again to Cebu City's once future city..

LordCarnal December 24th, 2005, 06:08 AM oist, who has gone inside the University of Cebu Campus in Banilad??... damn it's sooo big..! eight or nine storey all in all, and yet they are expanding..! Our board exam was held there last year and it doesn't look like a school.. The massive structure inside (from the quadrangle) looks more like a mall.. Imagine standing at the lower level of Ayala Center near the fountain, and look towards the roof... imagine that it's nine stories all in all... That's how massive the structure looks inside from the quadrangle...
sugbuanon December 24th, 2005, 06:13 AM atty. go never runs out of money.. he's even planning of contructing another building/campus in SRP.. i think it's an expansion of his maritime school in mambaling..

LordCarnal December 24th, 2005, 06:28 AM One big Korean Town indeed!... yesterday in SM, there were so many of them too... Here in guadalupe there was even a Korean Convenience Store but closed na.. Maybe they transferred to another place..
Note that Cebu was originally designated by PGMA to host SoKor President Roh's official state visit here in the Philippines weeks ago but I don't know why wala nadayon.. Maybe Cebu wasn't able to prepare since it was busy for the SEAG..
Months ago, there were also Korean actors who made a press conference at the Shang in Mactan regarding their plan to shoot a telenovela here in Cebu.. Dunno if it has materialized na..
Whoahh! I have just finished watching an american movie.. The setting was Malaysia but guess where it was shot??? In Mactan Shangri-La and in some parts of Lapu-lapu, they even showed the jeepneys and the tricycles....... harharhar

CwEoBwU December 24th, 2005, 09:27 AM @mike... upto now, Cebu City is out of the jurisdiction of the Cebu Province...
But upto now ig duol duol nasad ang aniversary sa Cebu prov sa iyang pagka province kay mo andar nasad ang lalis..hehe
mopuno diay ko ani, heheheheh sorry.
cebu city is part of cebu province, but only geographically and not politically. it is autonomous in most parts and not whole; it anchors itself as the prime mover of the economy in the province.
it may be the capital of the province, but only in name and not in jurisprudence and political functions. weird isn't it?

Chamber bares Cebu Master Plan 2020; province’s P2.1-B budget OKd
CEBU CITY — The Cebu Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCCI) has cited the need to implement projects that would make Cebu Province more attractive to tourists.
The Cebu Master Plan 2020, prepared by CCCI’s Cebu Tourism Core Group, identified major infrastructure projects that needed to be implemented in the coastline areas, CCCI president Robert Go said.
The plan aims to turn Cebu into an the information hub, maritime center, and tourism capital of the country, he said.
To realize this goal, he said, there is a need to refurbish historical landmarks and rehabilitate infrastructure facilities to attract foreign investments and tourists.
The proposed projects would improve the Metro Cebu corridor, which covers the coastline from Mandaue Reclamation to the Kawit Island in South Road Properties (former South Reclamation Project) and the Mactan Boardwalk, Go said.
In a related development, a South Korean investor plans to build a 700-room resort in Mactan, which was expected to help alleviate the shortage of resort rooms, a regional tourism official said.
Patria Aurora Roa, Department of Tourism regional director, said the facility would consist of six towers, with 250 rooms for outright hotel operations, and the rest would be on a condotel operation.
The Korean investor, she said, plans to start the project in 2006 and has targeted 2007 for its completion and the start of the resort’s operations.
Roa said the plans for the project are already finished, and the investors are now completing the documentary requirements such as the building and electrical permits.
She said the Korean bought the area, estimated at between seven to eight hectares, from the heirs of Eddie Woolbright.
However, Roa said the projected room capacity of the resort project would not be enough to meet the growing demand.
She noted that it would not be good for Cebu’s tourism industry to always turn away prospective guests because of lack of rooms.
Meanwhile, the Cebu provincial board approved the R2.1-billion 2006 budget of the province prepared by the office of Cebu Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia.
The amount is R310 million more than this year’s R1.7-billion budget.
The 2006 budget includes 351 percent increase for social welfare and 131 percent for health.
"This budget espouses the judicious application of resources, bearing in mind my principle of governance that a budget must be - beyond the figures - an approximation of the people’s hopes and aspirations," Garcia’s budget message stated.
Garcia raised allocation for the legislative branch by 132 percent, general services by 151 percent, and engineering by 126 percent. A drastic increase is seen in the item "subsidy for LGUs," which is now R75 million from the estimated R32.9 million in the current year.

OOPS edit: This is wrong. Please see below for the right one. Sensya na sinj.
When the Metro Cebu Development Authority was proposed in Congress, some contested that it should be renamed to Cebu Development Authority since visionaries predicted that in the near future, Greater Cebu would be the entire island itself..! just as the Mega Manila area is expected to reach to as far as Quezon province..

it's edifice_complex who invited you to join SSC! :D He's an istoryan too. i'm already a member of SSC at that time but i was focused on Metro Manila developments :) and no Cebu thread existed back then! lol
rustyboi December 24th, 2005, 07:26 PM METRO CEBU
I ran some figures.... total population 2,118,959!!
Land Area = 1605.5761 km2
Density = 1319.749964 per./k2
i think the figure is outdated. i heard Metro Cebu is now about 3.4 million in population. it was published somewhere in a newspaper.

really? WoW... coz in the last census yr2000 i think it's still 1.7 million...
rustyboi December 24th, 2005, 07:41 PM CITIES:

Cebu
Lapu-lapu
Mandaue
Toledo
Talisay
MUNICIPALITIES:

Naga

San Fernando
Consolacion
Liloan

Balamban
Cool! I didn't know the "expanded" of Metro Cebu has taken effect!
Cebu has it's own version of Manila's Skyway! literally the road leading to the sky, care of the Trans-central Hi-way ;) Cebu City - Balamban

i dunno, at least that's what i read. what's more confusing is the expanded area of Metro Cebu. i bet in year 2000, counted lang ung original components of Metro Cebu. and was Talisay already in cityhood at that time?

Yeah, I remember posting an invitation sa istorya.net about ssc and I specifically invited arnoldsa because I thought he would be an asset to this thread. If it was me or slerz's invitation you responded to, is out of the question now. We're glad that you're here and you've proven your worth.

actually bag o lang niadto sila Gov. Gwen Garcia og Mayor Tom sa Germany to personally promote Cebu to the Germans...
even if you can bring only 1 European dri sa Cebu, you will contribute a lot not just little for Cebu's tourism coz that 1 European can spread the news about the beauty of Cebu through his words in Europe.
Ako gani mag sige man kog chat sa taga US, Europe og Australians not ordinary chat but I'm chatting to promote Cebu... ako man gani mga usernames kay "isla de Filipinas", "cebu_fiesta_island" og "cebu_paradise"...hehe

LordCarnal December 25th, 2005, 04:22 PM thanks god that didnt happend to me hehe angels maybe be safe guarding me :)
Actually, that almost happened to me.. Hehe.. I also had this experience where I almost lost my vision on the road and the car was already (almost) going to the direction of the ravine..! I think they should fence the sides of the entire highway because there are some parts of it that aren't fenced yet.
But the transcentral experience is really worth enjoying..! The landscape is so different.. Kulang nalang, naay magtukod ug castle, Europe na cguro ang dating..! hehehe...
