tinuod gyud ka bai. kay that the skyscrapers and infrastructures are their only way of gauging progress, not thinking about the quality of life of the majority of its people even the visitors from other provinces

its more refreshing to see the a green and blue backdrop of cebu's skyline. brt and lrt is the solution to prevent smog from covering our skies.i hope we create more green spaces like parks and recreation centers. we have to continue tree planting as trees absorb the carbon dioxide emissions and in turn release the oxygen in the air.

we already have Plaza Sugbo and the SRP bayview............. we need more of these to keep the City green. Let's also help clean our surroundings so Cebu won't turn out to be a polluted City but a green paradise.:)

MANILA, Philippines – A gated village in Western Bicutan is now home to Taguig City’s illegal settlers.
Jack ‘n Jill Village is one of 16 villages built by the city government with the help of nongovernment organizations such as Gawad Kalinga, Habitat for Humanity, and the Coalition for the Homeless Foundation.
Four buildings painted in rainbow colors of blue, pink, green, and beige, bordered by flower boxes and ornamental plants are now occupied by 22 poor families.
In 2008, this housing project dubbed Family Townhomes won the Galing Pook Award, a recognition given to the best local government initiated housing program in the country.
Josephine Garcia-Papa, officer-in-charge of the city housing office, said additional 512 units in Barangay Western Bicutan, Bagumbayan, Napindan, and Tipas have been completed. Each unit measures 17 square meters. to 24 square meters and can accommodate a family of six.
The city envisions building 20,000 houses for homeless families by 2020. click to continue (http://newsinfo.inquirer.net/inquirerheadlines/metro/view/20090913-224951/Condos-for-the-poor-in-Taguig)

mwg12a September 14th, 2009, 02:42 PM Mali talaga ang form of Government natin, dapat talaga Federal.
Sa Federal, lalabas ang GANDA nga Metro Manila once ma decentralize na. Mababawasan ang mga skwaters at mga basura.
That makati CBD doesn't show the success of Matro Manila... Maganda lang talaga siya sa pictures...
And I hope Metro Manila officials will also be proud of Cebu... Di nyo lang alam kung gani minaliit ng mga Manila mayors ang Cebu noong ASEAN summit... Hindi kami galit sa taga Manila, nadidisappoint lang kami sa mga namamahala jan.
Honenestly, even federalism would guarantee the progress of each states. There are states that would still be left behind, much like in the US, Australia and other federal type of governements all over the world.
When it comes to the Philippines, it's the corruptions that lingers in all branches of the government whether it maybe central or local. Even Cebu is not totally spared of corruptions. I'm sure there are governments that would be less corrupt comparing others come the time a federalism is in place.
But, in my honest opinion. As long as many filipinos never learned and changed to not embraced corruptions such as bribing things will never changed no matter how much we change the system or make up of our government.
...again bai...i hope you back-read...sa akin lang, tainted na ang pag-iisip ko sa mga posts ni @fraulien dahil sa ginawa nyang panlalait sa mga na-experience nya right after she visited Cebu...yun lang bai...doon nagsimula..kaya, negative din reaction ko pag si @fraulien ang mag post...why she has to point the obvious na alam naman natin na pinagtatawanan kami when "bisaya" na ang pinag-usapan..i hope now you know where we're coming from...
I see, I understand. We can't avoid sometimes that in any race, there is always this "bad seed" a 'blacksheep" as long as most of us understand one another and live in harmony. We can all walk hand in hand is stomping a few black sheep and not allow those few bad apples affect us.

Cebu City is still part of Typhoon Belt areas...
Cebu is always threatened and several pass through the Northern part of Cebu which is only a hundred Kilometers from Cebu City... Cebu City is always within the radius of a storm traversing Visayas...
cebu is always affected by storms and one Big storm (supertyphoon status) may hit cebu anytime soon...
Mild El Nino will affect the Philippines starting next month... Northern Philippines will be severely hit, minimal only for Cebu... Strong Storms may form in an El nino season...
Sinjin P. September 14th, 2009, 05:01 PM I am not putting Cebu down. My observation as I visited Cebu few weeks ago especially the city proper is I felt that I was in Manila that time. And to tell you honestly, it was full of traffic(even on Sundays and Holidays - August 31) and pollution (air, water) surrounded the city.
Excuse me? May ebidensiya ka ba na ma-trapik sa Cebu during Sundays and Holidays? I always go out and make lakwatsa on those days pero walang katraffic-traffic. Baka ang ibig mong sabihin ay Brgy. Cebu, City of Tootoot, Republic of Tootoot?
And bago mo ako maunahan, you cannot accuse me of this, "talagang ganyan ang mga Cebuano, ayaw magpatalo at ayaw magpainferior kaya lumalaban sa usapan", because I am half-Tagalog and wala akong pinapanigan. Ineenjoy ko lang ang aking masarap na buhay. :jk:
Di man mga bay. There are more cordial ways to drive a point than say the words BULOK, etc. Believe me, I have lots of Cebuano friends and their attitude is so unlike what is shown here -- so many negative vibes.
I agree, but then when you'll meet the guys here, they'll prove you wrong. (Like katong nagkita ming Henz, pagkamaayong tawo diay, dili diay mama-ak. )
Ang problema kasi sa forums, you can only see the words, but not the emotions behind those words so more often than not, they're misunderstood.

You've got a point there also, but my thing is that, there would still be towns or cities that would be left behind economically. Whether there is federalism or not, part of each state funding would still be shared nationally much like in the US, this is why there is a federal and state taxes.
As far as lessening the corruptions. Time will tell and how much the filipinos would learn from that past. Nepotism, contacts (who we know and how much we have) cliques and such are just few issues that is bringing our political will and progress down.

Colon has now 24-hour mobile police outpost (http://www.philstar.com/Article.aspx?articleId=505440&publicationSubCategoryId=107)
The Freeman
September 15, 2009 12:00 AM
CEBU, Philippines - The Cebu City Police Office yesterday launched the 24-hour mobile police outpost along Colon Street as complimentary program to the successful Task Force Colon.
CCPO director Patrocinio Comendador said that the mobile police outpost will serve as a “visible symbol of the police” and at the same time information center not just for the local populace but also to people from other provinces who come to the city.
Aside from the first outpost set yesterday morning across Gaisano South where the launching was held, Comendador said that there are still two outposts to be set a week from now at the vicinity of Gaisano Metro and in front of the Colonnade Mall.
Because the three establishments are located on Colon Street, the police director said that yesterday’s outpost, along with the two upcoming outposts, is situated in the area they consider as the epicenter of criminality in the city.
Aside from that, he explained that their force is centered in the said area because it is the economic center of the city where most people converge, and at the same time serves as a tourist attraction.
The putting up of the outposts is a complimentary program to CCPO’s Task Force Colon launched last July 27 which, according to Comendador, has reduced the index crime volume into 61 percent and managed to effect 50 arrests so far in just a month.
Comendador created Task Force Colon and appointed Supt. Pablo Labra II, the deputy city director for operations, as its commander and Sr. Insp. David Señor, chief of the operations section, as the acting officer.
The mobile police outpost, which is the first of its kind, is the result of Comendador’s endeavor to make a strong stand in trying to decrease particularly petty crimes in the streets.
“The strength of the chain is as strong as its weakest link. Meaning, if Colon is the critical point of criminality in the city, we must directly address it and weaken the criminal activity and eventually reduce index crimes,” Comendador said.
Barangay tanods from barangays Kalubihan, Pahina Central, and Ermita will also assist the police in guarding the city 24 hours.
Police Regional Office-7 director Lani-O Nerez said it is fitting to introduce the “very laudable plan” of the CCPO, in setting up the mobile police outposts, to other city police offices in the region.
Nerez, who served as the guest of honor and speaker during yesterday’s activity, said the PRO-7 would do its best to support the CCPO. He also thanked the Cebu City Government for the support to the police. — Niña G. Sumacot/WAB (THE FREEMAN)
diehardbisdak September 14th, 2009, 08:18 PM South bus terminal now imposing P5 terminal fee (http://www.philstar.com/Article.aspx?articleId=505435&publicationSubCategoryId=107)
The Freeman
September 15, 2009 12:00 AM
CEBU, Philippines - All passengers bound for the southern part of Cebu province will now have to pay a terminal fee before entering the Cebu South Bus Terminal effective today.
This was according to Capitol consultant Byron Garcia, who oversees the operation of the terminal, saying that passenger must pay the P5 fee as they now have easier to buses at the newly-refurbished terminal.
Before the passengers can enter the airconditioned passengers’ waiting area, Garcia said he has to drop a P5 coin or five P1 coins at the turnstile and the official receipt that will serve as their boarding pass.
“Mura na unya ni og passenger bus terminal operating like an airport that they will just wait for their bus to arrive,” Garcia said.
Inside the waiting area, stalls with food and drinks can also be found.
Cebu Governor Gwendolyn Garcia earlier imposed strict rules in the terminal by regulating the presence of dispatchers and by demolishing stalls illegally erected in the terminal.
Byron said the passengers will be safe from snatchers and pickpockets as cameras will be installed in the waiting area and the terminal as well. Pushcarts will also be provided to passengers who have bulky cargo.
But the terminal fee got mixed reactions from the passengers.
“Ka-mahal sab anang P5 uy, nganong dili naman lang himuon nga free ang terminal pareha sa North Bus Terminal,” on of them said.
But some said they appreciate the new system saying they no longer have to climb up bus windows and wrestle with each other just to secure a seat.
“Mas mahapsay na sab siguro ang dagan sa mga bus,” said a passenger who always goes home to the southern part of Cebu every afternoon after work.
Byron admitted that they already expected some negative feedback from the passengers but said they will not be forced to get inside the terminal but just wait outside if they like.
With the new system to be implemented, Byron said they can now monitor if buses are overloading and thus ensure passengers are safe.
An entrance fee of P100 for every bus and mini-bus will be charged. — Garry B. Lao/BRP (THE FREEMAN)

— Garry B. Lao/BRP (THE FREEMAN)
maayo pud siguro magcreate sila ug monthly pass para mabaruto gamay sa regular commuters. kay basin ang uban mo avoid nalang sa entrance fee ug adto mag atang gawas sa terminal. it should have been free or least adto nila ang bago sa bus operators kaysa tagsa tagsa ka tao. karon pasad ko ana da nga dunay terminal fee lupig paman ana ang airport.

Colon has now 24-hour mobile police outpost (http://www.philstar.com/Article.aspx?articleId=505440&publicationSubCategoryId=107)

Damn, just when I am craving for something salty to eat. he he
It was really in Cebu where I really learn to eat dried fish. When I was little I hated it but i guess as you grow older your taste bud change where you would start eating things you never eat before. I still do not eat dilis, unless it's one of those cooked or fried with sweet, salty and a bit spicey taste in, I eat it like chips or peanut.

leylander September 15th, 2009, 10:22 AM I will never forget one experience diha sa colon.
It was just two days after my high school graduation. I went to USJ-R to have myself enrolled. The process needed a 2x2 colored ID picture and the university photo shop was closed so I went to colonade to look for a cheap rush photo shop. I passed by Eden Theater and was kinda intrigued by the number of people huddled around something. I wiggled through the crowd and found myself standing in front of a big group of men staring at some screen shots of an X-rated Pinoy film recently posted at the lobby. When I tried to leave the crowd, an old man, who was selling some cigarettes/fruits/newspaper grabbed me by the hand and forced me to stand in front of him. He told me to close my eyes and he then placed his thumbs on my eyes. I heard him saying something as though he was praying. Then, he told me to open my eyes and said that it was over. I asked him 'what's over?" He said, 'both eyes.' I didn't quite get what he meant until he said, '40 pesos for each eye. So 80 for both eyes.' It turned out that it was some sort of healing. A 'forced healing' for that matter. I told him that I didn't have any money. He said, 'Ayaw kog ilara. Mamakak pa gyud ka. Bayad dayon!' I was forced to give him my one hundred pesos because I was kinda scared. And I was a really small kid and he was a really big old man. I asked for my change but he said 'sakto ra ni'. I pleaded saying that I wouldn't be able to go home. He gave me 5 pesos and told me to keep walking and never look back.
Sukad2x, wala na gyud ko kaagi dihang dapita. Kung makaagi ko diha, adto gyud ko sa pikas side.
I hope the police force would be able to eliminate this type of threat pud kay although this is not the primary 'source of income' aning mga tawhana, kung makakita sila ug pwede mabiktima, mamiktima gyud ni sila.

BULLDOG September 15th, 2009, 11:12 AM I will never forget one experience diha sa colon.
AmbutLang September 15th, 2009, 01:05 PM ^^^^ Did you take that pic while up in the Millinium tower? Does it cost to get up there on the top floor like most observation deck or it's free because there is a restaurant and bar up there?
Damn, just when I am craving for something salty to eat. he he
It was really in Cebu where I really learn to eat dried fish. When I was little I hated it but i guess as you grow older your taste bud change where you would start eating things you never eat before. I still do not eat dilis, unless it's one of those cooked or fried with sweet, salty and a bit spicey taste in, I eat it like chips or peanut.
They have fried dilis in Chinatown grocery stores and FilAm stores in NYC.
^^Tigom sa ko og maayo diri bai, para pag-uli makapalit ko og condo unit or house and lot, unya gamay nga negosyo...Hehehehe
Naa man resident real estate brokers nga taga SSC-Cebu anha nalang nila palit condo.
This will worsen the traffic in this area.

Cool! When this happens, Cebu will be the Makati of the South. I like! Naa kay mas dako ani @mike? :)
That looks more like a view similar to the view from Manila Bay or Roxas blvd in Manila which, when more building started lining up, it would be like HK. Since Cebu is hilly, it would be more like HK's skyline. I hope there would be a board walk and park infront of the ocean with some restos you can go to as well.

There is. In fact, the agreed that they will not disclose the project in Filinvest at SRP. It will be a very big trouble if they pre-empt to reveal all the projects in SRP. I can say that they are lucky since they went to City Hall.

SleMarKen September 16th, 2009, 11:06 AM That looks more like a view similar to the view from Manila Bay or Roxas blvd in Manila which, when more building started lining up, it would be like HK. Since Cebu is hilly, it would be more like HK's skyline. I hope there would be a board walk and park infront of the ocean with some restos you can go to as well.
:gossip: hehehe
actually, ma boardwalk na na natapos sa bandang viaduct ng coastal bridge to SRP.
pero hindi pa to open sa public, ongoing pa kase construction banda don...

this early, im already decided to vote for Teodoro. in my own opinion, he's the most intelligent among the Presidentiables and he's the type of leader that we need. he has the intellectual capacity to think of solutions to the worsening problems of our country, and at the same time has enough grasp of business (syempre he's a Cojuangco, the business side, not the politics) so he can run the country as if it's a private corporation. I can see in him Thaksin Shinawatra, Philippine version, prior to Thaksin's ouster. i'm just airing out the reasons why my vote goes to him, and i'm not expecting everyone would agree with me. so no need to react negatively...

Hello Sugbuanon and all,,,I'm a newbie, hope am welcome here.....I agree Teodoro is the right man to be the next President. We need a president who is a leader and manager for this nation to move forward. a leader who is not bias, none regionalistic mentality.

Henz September 17th, 2009, 04:44 AM I strongly believe, the Aboitiz plans to build the tallest tower in Cebu.. Maybe similar to the Unionbank Tower ... It may be located either in their current headquarters in Banilad, Cebu or at the Unionbank Property in Cebu Business Park....
And to think that Aboitiz group has a reputation for being on time..so when they will say, they will build the tallest tower in 2010, then it will be on 2010 and not on 2011...

kenken94 September 17th, 2009, 05:44 AM yup exactly... Aboitiz is from Cebu... Interms of tallest, Aboitiz would prefer Cebu coz building tallest in Cebu is something unique, as an island known for its good reputation, Hindi magsisisi ang ABOITIZ for that matter...

flesh_is_weak September 17th, 2009, 06:04 AM there's a huge controversy about the Marian Monastery in Simala. What is it about, guys?
noh? i wonder what it is...
all i can say is that i felt that the monks somehow took advantage of the hype surrounding the place and capitalized on it...
pardon me, pero 'castle' my *ss...based on their contemplation daw of what Mama Mary wants...what the?! why would she require a castle? i don't get the logic...
i'm not being anti-catholic here, mind you, even St. Teresa of Avila was against the notion of building grandiose structures for 'the glory of God'

hakz2007 September 17th, 2009, 06:25 AM Mayor Osmena goes on leave again for US health checkup (http://www.pna.gov.ph/index.php?idn=2&sid=&nid=2&rid=229778)
CEBU CITY, Sept. 16 (PNA) - Cebu City Mayor Tomas Osmena Monday left again for the Untied States for a 10-day trip to have himself checked, following the surgery last April 2 that removed his cancerous urinary bladder.
Aside from the quarterly medical examination that forms part of his post-cancer regimen, Osmena will also visit friends and see his son Miguel in Los Angeles. The mayor is expected to be back on Sept. 24.
In the meantime, Vice Mayor Michael Rama will serve as acting mayor and City Councilor Hilario Davide 111 as acting vice mayor.
Osmena said he did not leave specific instructions to Rama or the city councilors because he is “just one text away.”
Cebu City Administrator Francisco Fernandez said he has not spoken with the mayor but will just call him. “He has no last minute instructions. Anyway, it will just be for 10 days,” he said.
Rama also said the mayor did not tell him what to do. “No instructions, but maybe I’ll just call him later,” Rama said.
But Rama said in their last meeting on Friday, the mayor proposed that Davide will run for vice governor of Cebu Province if Tourism Secretary Joseph “Ace” Durano decides to run for Cebu governor.
Osmena earlier said he would persuade Durano to run for Cebu governor, and promised Cebuanos a harmonious relationship between the city and the province if Durano wins.
Among the mayor’s plans is for the hospital that treated him to also offer the same services in the country, particularly at the Cebu City Government’s South Road Properties (SRP).
He first announced his plan last March, before undergoing surgery to deal with bladder cancer at the M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas.
While seeking the treatment in the US, the mayor said he discussed his proposal with the university of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center’s vice presidents, who he said are interested in his offer.
Aside from providing hope for cancer patients in the country, he said, the center would pave the way for medical tourism in Cebu.
He later found that the government of Texas, which owns and runs the facility, cannot invest for expansion outside the state.
He said the city can get around this prohibition by asking Filinvest Land Inc. to provide the land for the hospital, negotiate with potential foreign investors to fund the operations and facilities needed for the research and medical center and have the proposed M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in SRP managed and run by doctors from Texas.
Osmena had said that Sen. Loren Legarda is also helping the city in the negotiations. (PNA)
Sleepwalker September 17th, 2009, 06:30 AM ^^Reasons why i don't trust so much on the "men" of God...I still believe in church and God, but I already stopped my confession, long time ago.
Well, I once knew of some church choir member who owned a night club (with girls/prosti, of course).
And another choir member acquintance, who goes to brothels and massage parlors with extra services. And he even goes there sometimes few hours after he rendered his service to God on Sunday.
Pretenders at their best... They are dirtier than me :ohno:

Henz September 17th, 2009, 06:42 AM correct.. like the political issues.. kana nga mga issues with religious themes.. naay proper thread ana..... let us not discuss here......
Atong e discuss about Cebu.. kana gi post ni haks2007 the gentlemen from Camarines Sur... na Osmena negotiated for Filinvest to provide the hospital building etc..
From my sources, the said proposal was already approved in principle by FLI, which i think naa na sya place in the SRP area....
Have you noticed that some of the tycoons now is looking at hospitals for investments.. prominently is Manny Pangilinan, who is very aggressive in acquiring hospital, also George Ty, who owns the Manila Doctors Hospital and plans to pursue Billions of peso investments in hospital..
Perhaps Andrew Gotianun would also pursue investments on the same industry via the Anderson Medical proposal of Mayor Tommy in SRP.

BULLDOG September 17th, 2009, 11:00 AM murag ok bitaw si Teodoro, his response to questions makes sense. He studied in Harvard daw. kaso lang, under administration. basin ma influence ni Gloria.
Things to know about Gilbert Teodoro:

For seven years, he honed his skills as a lawyer in the EP Mendoza Law firm. He went to the Harvard Law School in Cambridge Massachusetts for his Master of Laws and completed it in 1997. He was also admitted to the State Bar of New York during the same year.
From 1998 to 2007 he was a congressman representing the First District of Tarlac province. He assumed the position of Assistant Majority Leader in the 11th Congress and head of the Nationalist People's Coalition House members. He was also a member of the House contingent to the Legislative-Executive Development Advisory Council.
Secretary Teodoro, who holds distinct memberships in the Integrated Bar of the Philippines, UP Alumni Association, UP Law Alumni Association, Harvard Alumni Association and the Harvard Law Alumni Association, is also a licensed commercial pilot and a Colonel in the Philippine Air Force Reserve.
Teodoro was appointed Secretary of the Department of National Defense in August 2007 at the age of 43, the youngest person to ever hold the position.

marxman September 17th, 2009, 12:47 PM I really wonder (those presidentiables) why they want to be a philippine president... its so hard running a very dysfunctional system of government... you know...
we need a manager president... though the president heads the executive branch of government, he needs to find the right kind of people for the cabinet posts....
we need a president who will give cabinet positions to technocrats... not to retired generals... or to lawyers... give it to engineers, scientists, etc...

it would be better if the president simply appoints as department heads civil servants who've worked in that particular dep't for years. That way, we're sure those people know what they're doing unlike some department secretaries I've interviewed before who honestly said they needed a couple of weeks to know the what their jobs are.

From Cebu City, go to South Bus Terminal (Near Emall) and ride a Ceres Bus going to Sibonga. Don't worry about when and where you're going to STOP, just inform the conductor on where you're heading to.
It's a 2 hour and a half hour ride from Cebu so you better bring some water and foods with you.
The Safe Haven of Mother Mary is 5 km away from the Highway (Bus drop point) and once more, you need a motorcycle ride going to the Sanctuary. Here we go again... The infamous " Habal-habal " - Only in the Philippines
