Though all watches are assembled in Cebu, but not all are developed in Cebu.

But don't worry, the engineers who supervised the development outside Timex-Cebu are the people who used to work in Timex R&D before.

ing-ana man sad ang pentax bai, R&D is in Japan HQ, Cebu assembles it. But majority of the technical issues are handled by Filipino engineers.

But in the case of Timex, Cebu is one of the HQ. Previously, Timex has it's own R&D group, until in the early 2000, when R&D was shutdown. Most of the pioneering engineers of NCR-Cebu Development Center were from Timex.

Pero mora'g gibalik naman ang R&D sa Timex.

Hmm interesting. But did you know that behind the beautiful facade of lexmark RnD in CBP is a huge pool of cebuano ingenuity?
From the main processor(ASIC), system level hardware, firmware upto App Software, these products were developed/designed and delivered by cebuanos(some non cebuano but worked in cebu) engineers together with american RnD counterparts.

Buanga bitaw, bai. Pag Saturday, right after sa procession, nagkasugat pa mi ani niya. Mu-exit unta siya sa La Fortuna, nya close man. So what he did was greet the people who were waiting outside (Magellan's Cross) for the gate to be opened. I even took a photo of him pa. Shock ko ganina, nipanaw na diay intawn... Tsk, tsk... Corny as it may sound, but maybe one of his last tasks was meant to be to help pull the Sto. Nino carroza...

Living in the Visayas is fun...that's what I miss when I was still either Cebu or Iloilo-based. After one party comes another. :D

Old news about Cebu Technological University...

-------------------------------------------------------

CTU receives $1.8-M robotics lab from US firm (http://www.mb.com.ph/node/230714/c)
By MARS W. MOSQUEDA JR.
November 22, 2009, 5:38pm

CEBU CITY – Just a few weeks after being converted into a full-blown university, the Cebu State College of Science and Technology received Saturday $1.8 million worth of laboratory equipment for robotics and meteorology from a US-based computer firm.

Executives of San Jose, California-based Hitachi Global Storage Technologies (Hitachi GST), a well-known producer of hard disk drives, turned over $1.8 million worth of metrology and robotics laboratory facilities to the institution, now known as the Cebu Technological University (CTU) , the first recipient of such hi-tech laboratory in Central Visayas.

The donation is part of Hitachi GST’s Integrated University Program launched last year, which aims to help develop hard disk drive industry talent in the country by providing scholarships, research grants, lab equipment and on-the-job training to both students and faculty members.

“Hitachi is impressed by the highly skilled workforce in the Philippines,” said Dr. Tuan Tran, Vice-President of Hitachi GST’s Worldwide Head Operations. “Through the Integrated University Program, we like to think that we are helping to develop the tremendous potential of future scientists and engineers.”

Commission on Higher Education Commissioner Nona Ricafort said Hitachi’s program is in response to Government’s three point agenda, that is, education for all, creation of jobs, and poverty alleviation.

Ricafort, along with top officials of Hitachi witnessed Sunday the turnover of the metrology and robotics laboratory facilities to CTU, Hitachi’s latest beneficiary and first recipient in Central Visayas.

“We have recommended the setup of seven labs in public institutions strategically located nationwide to enable other schools within the region to share in the use of the laboratory facilities. This way, we are increasing coverage of the program to help more students and faculty around the country,” Ricafort said.

Presidents of six other “most-populated universities in the country” were also present Sunday to sign a Memorandum of Agreement with Hitachi.
These institutions, the state universities of Eastern Visayas, Palawan, and Bulacan , along with the Eulogio “Amang” Rodriguez Institute of Science and Technology, Central Mindanao University, and
Northern Mindanao State Institute of Science and Technology are also recipients of the same state-of-the-art robotics and metrology equipment.

Metrology is defined by the International Bureau of Weights and Measures as “the science of measurement embracing both experimental and theoretical determinations at any level of uncertainty in any field of science and technology,” while robotics is the science or study of the technology associated with the design, fabrication, theory, and application of robots.

Radisson Hotel Cebu targets to open in June
(The Freeman) Updated January 19, 2010 12:00 AM

CEBU, Philippines - The opening of the SM-owned Radisson Hotel Cebu is tentatively scheduled on June this year, which would translate to an additional of 400 five-star accommodation rooms in Cebu.

SM Prime Holdings Inc., president Hans Sy said in an interview that the hotel is currently 25 percent completed, in terms of interior finishing, and the company will turnover the hotel to the Radisson management team by March of this year.

The SM Group, through the SM Investments Corporation (SMIC) invested about P2.5 billion to rehabilitate the structure which was originally built supposedly for another hotel management partner.

According to Sy, Radisson Cebu Hotel will provide beyond five-star service accommodation requirement once it will open in the middle of this year.

Aside from Radisson, Sy said that the company is also looking at building two more hotels at its 30-hectare property at South Road Properties.

The hotel plan is still part of this long term target, while the company will prioritize the construction of one of the top 10 largest malls in the world at SRP.

The company will invest at least P21 billion for Cebu in the next eight years, this after SM Prime Holdings sealed the deal with the Cebu City government to buy 30-hectares of the SRP.

Next to Metro Manila, Sy said Cebu is now becoming one of the top priorities of the company. Simultaneously, the company will also spend another P1 billion in establishing another shopping mall at the northern part of Cebu.

Radisson Hotel Cebu is owned by the SM Investments Corp. (SMIC), the hotel investment arm of the SM Group but will be managed and operated by the Carlson Hotels Worldwide-Asia Pacific.

Radisson Cebu Hotel will employ 340 staff to man hotel operations.

Situated across the SM City Cebu Mall, Radisson Hotel Cebu will cater 50 percent to the commercial
market composed of the business and corporate clientele and another 50 percent for the leisure or travel market segment.

Radisson Hotel Cebu is still applying for DOT accreditation and when it finally opens on the middle of this year, the hotel will be the first Radisson Hotels & Resorts property to open in the country.

SMIC and Carlson also have agreements for the management of two SM hotels in the Mall of Asia complex in Pasay City and these will be the Regent Manila Bay and Radisson Manila Bay which are scheduled to open within 2010.

Carlson Hotels Worldwide-Asia Pacific is one of the world’s ten largest hotel operators and it runs five hotel brands in the region including the Regent Hotels & Resorts, Radisson Hotels & Resorts, Park Plaza Hotels & Resorts, Country Inns & Suites By Carlson, and Park Inn and it manages 9,000 rooms and has more than 10,000 more under development within the Asia-Pacific.— Ehda M. nindota sa mga pics oi. makes me want to buy a camera of my own.

mga parekoy, if I have a 20k budget, unsa nga camera ang pwede nako mapalit. i do not want to buy those big and bulky dslr, a brother of mine has one and is planning to sell it. ganahan lang ko the size of those pentax cams with a higher resolution.

12 mp na ba ng mga pentax that size?

Bai@Eastern:

CAnon Powershot S90. I would recommend this one too. P and S Compact digicam with photo quality that's near DSLR level. Aside from presets and Auto mode, settings can also be manually adjusted just like DSLRs.

I have tried it at a store and the photo quality is really good, even in low light conditions.

Only drawback is wala pa siyay HD video rec. (Although it's video rec is good enough at 640 x 480 @ 30FPS). Pero dili man na kaayo necessary and HD Video!

But if you aren't in a hurry to buy, huwat2x lang kay mura og mag release pod sila ug naay HD Vid soon.

But other than that, it's really a nice cam.
May ta ug naa koy bayad sa Canon ani pag advertise. hahahhaa.

You can read the review and comments pod from this link para naay intersubjective reliability sa opinions.

Ay, usa pa diay, medyo mahal pa diay siya sa Pinas 39 thou pa. Haha.

Anyway, any cam sa Canon Powershot series okay man. Adjust na lang according to budget bai.

CEDC fires up first boiler (http://www.philstar.com/Article.aspx?articleId=542014&publicationSubCategoryId=108)
By AJ de la Torre (The Freeman) Updated January 19, 2010 12:00 AM

CEBU, Philippines - Two weeks ahead of the targeted schedule, the Cebu Energy Development Corporation had the initial firing of boiler number one of the three 82 MW coal-fired power plants built by the Metrobank Group-led power consortium in Toledo City.

CEDC President and Global Business Power Corporation president Jesus Alcordo along with their partners, led the firing of the first boiler last Sunday, January 17 in Brgy. Daanlungsod, Toledo City.

The power consortium is composed of the Metrobank Group, Global Business Power Corp. (GBPC), AboitizPower Corp., Vivant Energy Corp. and Formosa Heavy Industries Corp.

Alcordo said that the initial firing of the first boiler is a milestone in their plans of putting up three 82 MW clean coal fired plants since it would signify the success in their goal and an assurance that everything installed would be doing well.

He said that with the first boiler already started, it bares open their confidence to the public that they will proceed and that they are committed to finish the projects by this year without any problem.

Alcordo explained that with the energy supply going negative last year and reaching a critical limit, they are hoping to give solution to this through the three 82 MW coal-fired plants which is scheduled to be fully operational by the end of this year.

The second boiler is set to be launched by May and the third by December.

According to Alcordo, the P23 billion project would give added supply to Cebu and could give 32 MW worth of reserve supply. “We hope to correct the deficit.”

As of their last data, dated January 11 of this year, Alcordo said that Cebu imported 254 MW from Leyte to give additional supply to the increasing demand of 549 MW.

He explained that while the dependable capacity is 293 MW and there should be a reserve of 128MW, Cebu ’s energy supply had a deficit of 113MW. click here for full article (http://www.philstar.com/Article.aspx?articleId=542014&publicationSubCategoryId=108)

(Take note nga daghan kaayo'g client ang Pyroworks 'pag weekend... demo show @ the SM Pyrofest, Sinulog Grand Finale sa CCSC, Crown Regency and CBP, among others.). Dili macompare ang duha kay ang Pyrofest was an exhibition by 9 groups (inc. the demo show by Pyroworks Int'l) while ang sa CBP was a show by only one group.

Anyway, this year's Pyrofest was definitely better than last year's in all aspects (traffic, crowd control, participants, earlier start and finish, etc.) pero ang Lapulapu, nagpakatawa as usual.

astig!!!!!

nindota sa mga pics oi. makes me want to buy a camera of my own.

mga parekoy, if I have a 20k budget, unsa nga camera ang pwede nako mapalit. i do not want to buy those big and bulky dslr, a brother of mine has one and is planning to sell it. ganahan lang ko the size of those pentax cams with a higher resolution.

12 mp na ba ng mga pentax that size?

Sir, if you want a very, very powerful point-and-shoot camera, buy the Canon G11. Highly respected kaayo ang G-series sa Canon. Ang sensor niya kay sensor sa DSLR. It's about 33k diri sa Pinas, but I heard they sell it for 20-something-k sa Singapore. Some journalists who cover parties bring this kind of camera, para di kaayo conspicuous. But that's just my opinion. :)

I don't think the coliseum will be built anytime soon. Tomas changed his mind about holding the Sinulog in SRP. He's thinking of extending the Sinulog route next year to the NRA instead. Also, the CCSC will be getting a facelift anytime this year. So, I don't think they'd change the venue. After all, it's not Sinulog if it isn't held at the CCSC.

Cerge Remonde is well loved here in Manila.... RIP

http://www.philstar.com/Article.aspx?articleId=542535&publicationSubCategoryId=64
FROM THE STANDS By Domini M. Torrevillas (The Philippine Star) Updated January 21, 2010 12:00 AM

Members of Bulong Pulungan sa Sofitel join the nation in mourning the passing away of Press Secretary Cerge Remonde Tuesday morning. Word about his departure, coming so swiftly, without anyone knowing that his time was at hand, came as a shock, numbing, and saddening. At the Heritage Memorial Center to where his body was taken a few hours after his death, friends and colleagues, allies, but I suppose no foes, paid their last respects. Many of them exchanged stories about their relationship with the Cebuano raconteur, singer, lover of the balak (Visayan way of reciting love poems), spiritual man, admirer of beauty, very patient person, hard-working executive, spirited broadcaster, and most of all, unsurpassed defender of his boss, the President.

We at Bulong Pulungan felt that we were Cerge’s favorite media group. But it turned out most everyone thought they were, too. We were probably the last bunch to have dinner with him where he laughed to his heart’s content, told bits of secrets about goings on in the Palace, gave each one (except our boyfriends) a big hug before and after dinner. There’s so much to say about Cerge, but for now, let me say that he was one of the President’s good, and most trusted, men.

British & French tourists in top cruise ship visit RP
Posted on January 20th, 2010 under The Good Balita
http://goodnewspilipinas.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/01/MS-Spirit-of-Adventure.jpg
The famous cruise ship MS Spirit of Adventure has docked in the Philippines bringing in more than 300 British and French nationals to the country.

Tourism Secretary Ace Durano hailed the ship’s arrival, saying, “Complementing our chartered flights, the cruise ship tours are fast becoming a competitive source of arrivals, bringing with it the high-spending segment from Europe, US and Asia.”

The DOT welcomed the guests with cultural performances on each port of call. “A festive welcome serves to let them know that they have reached Philippine shores, where the people are warm and wonderful, and the destinations equally so,” shared Eduardo Jarque Jr., Undersecretary for Tourism Planning and Promotions.

The cruise ship’s Master Captain Frank Allica also noted, “The reception is one of the grandest I have ever seen in all the places we have been. Our guests can’t wait to see more of this warm and welcoming country.”

The MS Spirit of Adventure, owned by Acromas Shipping Limited in England included the Philippines in its 16-day tour of Asia-– the Charm of the Exotic East Voyage.

The Berlin, the MS Spirit of Adventure was also touted the “Love Boat’’ for its romantic cruise tour that lures passengers to the exotic charms of Asia.

The Philippines had the longest itinerary in the tour, as the ship docked in four different ports of call which included Cebu, Boracay, Manila, and La Union. p>Upon reaching Manila, guests were treated to the Manila Old Town Tour which featured Intramuros, Manila Hotel and the Rizal Park. Other guests hiked off to Tagaytay to see the Taal Volcano.

After Manila, the luxury cruise liner proceeded to La Union for a tour of Baguio. The tourists were brought to a weaving school where students use hand-operated wooden looms.

The Baguio tour also introduced the Tam-awan Village which displayed century-old Igorot huts, Mines View Park for a panoramic sight-seeing of the summer capital, the Mansion House, Wright Park and Session Road to the guests.

In Cebu, the group was brought to a historical exploration of the city’s landmarks, shopping at Carbon Market and an Arts and Crafts tour, which included trips to factories of acoustic guitars, bandurias (Filipino mandolins), banjos, ukeleles, as well as handcrafted jewelry.

Some of the tourists also went to Bohol to see its eco-sites such as the Chocolate Hills and the Loboc River.

Dismal weather, however, prohibited the ship from docking at the pristine White Beach of Boracay where it was also scheduled for a stop.

Aside from the Philippines, the ship listed Malaysia, Brunei, Borneo, and Hong Kong in its 16-day cruise itinerary.

^^In the contrary, for future planning cebu city really needs a bigger venue that would complement all (i.e sporting/cultural activities). A world class sports stadium comparable to other countries (not the contemporary stadium built in the countryside) is better for this purpose, it's either in SRP or NRA since this is the only open space left for that pupose within the city...and they should plan it now otherwise they will be at lost...^^

exactly. we know that the city is headed that way. keeping in mind the recent surge of developments and infrastructure. but in the context of finding a venue for the Sinulog in 2011, a longer route would probably be the 'solution'. short-term, of course.

Speaking of Sinulog 2011 and since it cannot be done, mean building that supposed structures overnight then the best thing that the city can do for now as you say, the short term solution is to take a longer but more on augmenting the existing bleachers they provide to accomodate the throng of people whom will watch the sinulog specifically those who were in the streets and that if they can, knowing that it may cost more to the city...best area to do this will be the mango stretch down to carreta cemetery as we can see that road there is wide enough to accomodate the bleachers on one side and the for contingents on the other side (taking model of that bleacher the one being used in pasadena parade of flowers if im not mistaken)...then that will help solve the problem of overcrowding in the streets more so at the sports center as people now have the alternatives to watch sinulog comfortably without going inside the center.....and the rest will be good planning to synchronized all areas...

I went inside the circle last Sinulog, my first time....the lights are good. 1912 pa ang monument na to!

Suggestion lang: Put more lights inside the park, it's a bit dark or talagang sadya yun for lovers? hehehe, just curious.

For lovers, I bet Plaza Independencia, Millenium Park (Park under Marcelo-Fernan Bridge) and Cebu Business Park (during the afternoon) would do, hehe!! :D

Its also a good place for contemplating as well. :)

as what Jarenz told me (as far as i can remember, nakainom kasi kami noong sinulog. heheheh) the lighting of the fountain is just the start. as matter of fact, the whole rotunda will be renovated and be lighted. to answer your question, it will be lighted.

Yep. Tomas is getting proven right with time. SRP will be worth all those times his vision for Cebu was doubted especially sa katong nagbaguod sa utang ang ciudad. But with the development and sale of SRP, mangolekta na lang ani ang incoming Mayor. Hehehe. I hope the incoming mayor would wisely spend this money.

Nahilom na lage ang Capitol for these past few weeks. Mura og wala na lage away ang ciudad og province? Hahahaha. Si Gwen pod wala kaayo nagpakita sa limelight. I hope she will focus on the development of CentCom/campo pod.

Sakto gyud bai...
WE, my family also sacrificed before tungod sa SRP...

SRP "Cebu's Single Biggest Economic Driver!" :okay::rock:

All 7 Presidential candidates are now in Cebu, attending a forum. Each has three minutes to answer the question “Why should Cebuanos vote for you?"

I just heard over the radio:

Gibo Teodoro said something like if he becomes the President, some of his priorities in Cebu:
- Tourism services
- Infrastructure: Third Mandaue Mactan Bridge, Cebu-Bohol Bridge, Widening of major Mandaue City roads

He also said, "Cebu is not just the Queen City of the South, but the Queen City of the Philippines."

all Presidential candidates are one in saying about Cebu, being the best, most ideal, leading the country, and all other flowerish terms you can think, typical politics ha. hehe but in all fairness to me it's somehow true

Robert Kwee, executive vice-president of SM Hypermarkets, said in an interview that "a few Makro outlets" will be reorganized this year, especially those that failed to meet the group’s expectations.

He clarified that this did not mean SM would be selling its stake in the Dutch-German chain of warehouse clubs.

"That is not in the plan. [There are some] Makro outlets that did well last year, we are just re-organizing some of them," Mr. Kwee said. He did not identify the affected outlets.

The group last year converted three of its 15 Makro outlets
(Mandaluyong, Makati and Novaliches) into hypermarts after sales of the first converted Mandaluyong hypermarket doubled. Unlike a hypermarket - which is a department store and a supermarket rolled in one - a Makro outlet caters more to wholesale buying. As of December 2009, SM still had 12 Makro outlets.

The Sy family became engaged in the business through Pilipinas Makro, the operator of Makro stores in the country. Pilipinas Makro was originally a partnership between the Sys, the Ayala group and SHV Holdings N.V. of Netherlands until the Ayalas sold their 28% stake in 2004.

Three years later, SM Hypermarket parent firm SM Investments Corp. folded the Makro stores into its operations and increased its ownership in Pilipinas Makro to 60%.

Aside from the three outlets mentioned, Makro stores can be found in
Cubao, Las Piñas, Cainta, Rizal, Imus, Cavite and Cebu City among others.

Mr. Kwee said the group planned to spend P1-2 billion this year. The funds will mostly be used for the opening of 20 new outlets of SaveMore hypermarkets and supermarkets. No new Makro stores will be opened.

"We want to be closer to the shoppers. Traffic congestion has not decreased over the past year; we want to cater to those people who want to shop around the corner," Mr. Kwee said.

With the additional stores, the SM retail group will end the year with 103 outlets. -- Kristine Jane R. Liu

http://www.businessmirror.com.ph/home/regions/21028-changes-seen-in-bill-proposing-cebu-ecozone.html

ONE of the authors of a bill seeking to transform the entire province of Cebu into an economic zone sees several amendments to the proposal once it is filed in the next Congress.

Rep. Ramon Durano VI of the Fifth District of Cebu said he agreed with the decision of the business sector and some of his colleagues in the House of Representatives to forego any push to get the bill enacted and to wait instead for the next Congress.

“The bill became controversial because a lot of opinions from chief executives were not heard,” Durano said. “Their ideas and suggestions should be taken into consideration in the next version.”

Durano said some chief executives want to amend the sharing of the 5-percent business tax imposed on businesses inside the zone. He said the standard sharing is 3 percent goes to the national government while 2 percent remains with the host local government unit.

He said the host towns and cities might ask for a bigger share as the provincial government still wants to get a cut of the remaining 2 percent.

The Cebu Chamber of Commerce and Industry earlier said House Bill 1319 will not have enough time in the next three weeks to be passed in the Senate.

“We will start again during the next Congress and make some modifications on the bill,” Chioson told the BusinessMirror. The bill is currently pending at the Senate committee level.

The bill, creating the Cebu Economic Development Zone, is authored by all eight Cebuano congressmen in the House of Representatives.

If passed, this will be the first time an entire province will be declared an economic zone to lure investors. The bill will cover mainland Cebu and its main outlying island groups, Camotes and Bantayan.

The bill’s proponents want to lure more investments into Cebu through incentives and tax holidays particularly on the island’s biggest industries: tourism, exports manufacturing and information and communications technology.

The plan entails the creation of subzones on the island for specific types of investments.

The bill is getting the full support of local businessmen who lobbied for funding from the German Agency for Technical Cooperation to conduct an initial study on the costs and benefits of creating a free port for the whole of Cebu.

6 presidential candidates praise Cebu

A standout during the open forum was 8-year-old Trevor Sederiosa.

“Every day, on my way to school, I see dirty-looking kids knocking on my car, asking for food or money. If you become president, what will you do for these kids, so they can go to school like me?”

It is simply an acknowledgment that they are a 'unique society' and some such. I'd be more interested if we held a referendum like they did. In their case the first one had a majority of 60% vote no and the second one was a almost a tie.

I can't help but wonder how Cebu would vote in a similar referendum.

Arroyo inaugurates Cansaga Bay bridge (http://www.philstar.com/Article.aspx?articleId=543705&publicationSubCategoryId=107)
The Freeman
Updated January 25, 2010 12:00 AM

CEBU, Philippines - President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo yesterday inaugurated the P2.3 billion Cansaga Bay Bridge, which is one of the major development projects of the Department of Public Works and Highways in the Metro Cebu area.

The President is very proud and thankful that the project was completed with funding from the national government without incurring any foreign loans.

Arroyo said the bridge, which is a key component of the North Coastal Road, is one of her flagship projects.

“This bay bridge is not just a bridge over a river, it’s a bridge over a bay just like all other bridges over a bay in the world. This is one of my legacies here in Cebu,” President Arroyo said.

DPWH Secretary Victor Domingo said that this project is a symbol of eternal love and commitment of President Arroyo for Cebu.

Sixth District Rep. Nerissa Soon-Ruiz, who delivered a message during the event, could not help but put a very political undertone to her speech as she urged the public to support those who are supportive of the President.

“Daku kaayo ta og utang kabubut-on sa atong Presidente. Angayan lamang nga atoang suportahan kung unsa ang gusto sa Presidente. We will do everything, to continue what the President have started,” Soon-Ruiz said.

The congresswoman is running for mayor of Mandaue City this May.

She is the official bet of the administration and is going up against Mayor Jonas Cortes, who is seeking reelection under the Liberal Party.

Cebu 4th District Rep. Benhur Salimbangon said that the newly-inaugurated project is a great advantage especially for the northern towns, where his district is located.

Cebu Governor Gwendolyn Garcia likewise hails the project including the people who worked on it to fast track the completion of the project.

Other politicians and would be politicians spotted during the event were former Provincial Board Member Luigi Quisumbing, who is running for congressman in the sixth district, former DILG undersecretary Lito Ruiz (running for congressman in Lapu-Lapu City), Mandaue City Vice Mayor Carlo Pontico Fortuna (running for a second term), former Mandaue City Councilor Glenn Bercede (running for vice mayor), incumbent Mandaue City Councilors who are Cortes’ allies — Bethoven Andaya, Jimmy Lumapas and Diosdado Suico, Liloan Mayor Duke Frasco and Consolacion Mayor Avelino Gungob.

The Cansaga Bay Bridge is an integral part of the overall road network system of which runs parallel to the existing main North-South line of the Cebu North Coastal Road Project.

It is the last remaining link to complete the arterial bypass from the Southern District of Talisay City to the Central District (Cebu City and Mandaue City) up to the Northern District of Consolacion, Liloan, Compostela and Danao City on the North.

The said project forms part of the Metro Cebu overall transport network and seeks to contribute to the economic development of Metro Cebu amd Cebu Province.

The project aims to develop a new road alignment that will provide access to centers of agricultural, industrial, fishing, commercial and tourism activities in the area and to reduce poverty and promote socio-economic growth in Central Visayas.

It also serves as an alternate route to bypass the congested two-lane Cebu North Road (Mandaue-Consolacion-Liloan Corridor).

The Cansaga Bay Bridge has a total length of 1,250.651 meters broken down as follows: New Cansaga Bay Bridge is 640.300 meters, First Road approach is 428.750 meters and the second road approach is 181.601 meters.

President Arroyo likewise praised the project contractor, Ciriaco Corporation, for finishing the said project ahead by seven months.

The project is supposed to be finished on August 1, 2010. Its construction started last December 10, 2008 with a budget of P2,366,957,938.48. — Mitchelle L. Palaubsanon/NLQ (THE FREEMAN)

RORO or regular boat normally has a travel time of more or less 1&1/2 to 2 hours if it is going to Tubigon port, however if it goes to Tagbilaran, travel time would be 3&1/2 to 4 hours. Fastcrafts would reach Tagbilaran port in just 1&1/2 hours only during calm seas and almost 2 hours on rough seas.

I think this bridge is the most expensive in the world if the price mentioned is true. Almost 2,000,000 per meter.:bash::bash::bash:

as a standard procedure of the DPWH, they should publish the proposed project with the amount breakdown or the cost per item of work. also, it is a normal procedure that an agency cost estimate document (better known as the "program of works") be submitted to regional head office of DPWH and should be thoroughly examined and checked by the approving officials (3 or 4 civil engineers at least). btw, POW will show everything, all the details concerning the breakdown of costs.

Cebu is sort of held with "high regard" in my family....
If the Philippines starts to get more tourists then Cebu will probably be at the forefront
of it all,(just a guess...meh)

The bridge inauguration brings back memories. Hehehe. Nakahinumdom nuon ko sa una, 2nd year high school pa mi ato, ug virgin pa ug innocent (hahaha), nagparade ug naglinya gyud mi sa Fernan bridge nga bag-o pa kaayo for the inauguration.

Damn, were we proud of Cebu!

That time I was there to wait and meet Erap, but when I was in college, apil na nuon og rally sa Fuente aron mustep down si Erap sa iyang pagkapresidente. Hahaha.

But yeah! Fernan bridge was a mighty fine looking and grand bridge!
