Please allow me to paste my blogpost about the Holy Thursday Visita Iglesia observance here. :)


Earlier this evening of Holy Thursday, OhMyCebu, together with his family, did the Visita Iglesia, a tradition that we have been doing every Holy Thursday, since time immemorial.

Anyway, what is the Visita Iglesia all about?

Visita Iglesia is traditionally a visit of only seven (7) churches, done on the evening of Holy Thursday after the Mass Commemorating the Last Supper and Washing of the Feet. The Blessed Sacrament in all Churches are exposed, sometimes elaborately designed or decorated with flowers, candles, dim lighting, others a make shift ‘tomb’ or a rocky garden supposed to represent the “Garden of Gethsemane”. The true and meaningful Visita Iglesia is done up until 12 midnight. The goers or ‘pilgrims’ should visit, pray and adore the Blessed Sacrament.

It is not intended to commemorate the 7 Last Words of Christ (which is done on Good Friday between 12 noon to 3pm), nor the Stations of the Cross (which is traditionally done any day during the holy week or on Good Friday morning before the 7 Last Words), but people may still do so because such devotion add to the solemnity and commemoration of the passion and death of Jesus Christ.

Visita Iglesia should be solemn, full of prayers of adoration before the exposed Blessed Sacrament and humility before the cross of Jesus. It should not be done for the intention of ‘touring around’, or solely for wishing for something. Though it is said that petitions to our Heavenly Father may be lifted up to Him during each church visit, still the main purpose and intention of Visita Iglesia should be the profound commemoration of the Last Supper, Christ’s passion and death, and our renewal of faith to Christ’s victory over sin on the day of resurrection.

Our first church was the Redemptorist Church. But before the Last Supper Mass, we went to the back of the Church for the Sacrament of Contrition. There were too many people though so the Church had to perform the Sacrament of Absolution. Absolution does not require “confession” to a priest. In Absolution, you silently confess your sins to God in the priest's presence, you request God’s forgiveness, and the priest gives you Absolution of your sins. You are inspired by the Holy Spirit to know the penance or atonement you should make. After the absolution, we went back to our pews and listened to the Last Supper Mass. Ooh my, the Church was overflowing. Good thing it was windy so the Church was still well ventilated.

Our second church was the Sacred Heart Parish located at D. Jakosalem St., in Cebu City. The church was built in modern Gothic architecture. The Sacred Heart Church is the first huge church in the city to be fully airconditioned.

Our third stop was at the Archbishop’s Palace compound located at D. Jakosalem St., in Cebu City. Located at D. Jakosalem Street, the Archbishop’s Palace of Cebu was built in 1953 during the incumbency of Julio Cardinal Rosales, the second archbishop of Cebu. It is the official residence of the Archbishop of Cebu. Within the compounds of the present residence is the Shrine of Blessed Pedro Calungsod, the first Visayan martyr to be beatified.

After the Last Supper Mass held at the Shrine of Blessed Pedro Calungsod, the Blessed Sacrament was processioned to the Altar of Repose at the garden within the Archbishop’s Palace compound.

Our fourth church was the Sto. Rosario Church located at P. del Rosario St., Cebu City.

The Sto. Rosario Church was named after its patron, Our Lady of the Holy Rosary. Completed on August 22, 1933, the church is now one of the busiest churches in the city.

Overall, the Visita Iglesia experience was fun, as usual, and at the same time, I had enough time to reflect on the Lord’s passion, reflect on my sins, reconcile and renew my vows with the Lord, and adore Him for His Supreme Sacrifice. I am extremely glad that more and more people, especially those of my age, go to Church, even just during significant events in the Church calendar such as the Holy Week. So, which Church had the best decorated Altar of Repose?

yeah.. i have also seen it.. mas nilapad ang open concrete spaces.. rather sa greeneries unlike the original. Perhaps ila ni tuyo kay kabalo sila na Plaza Independencia is a place for relaxation of the masses.

yes a relaxation for the masses.. kinsa kaha nga masa ang mangadto nga perting hawana, perting inita, kabaw ka sa pinoy di jud ganahan mainitan..og ang design dili ka karelax kay gubot kaayo, wala juy sense of freshness..hehe.wa sila modecide og focal point, murag galibog ang gadesign kung asa ila i-prioritize nga monument maong gakabuang ang arrangement sa plaza. para nako mura jud siyag drier sa humay ang large part sa concrete pavement. maarang arang tingali og magbuhat silag central water feature or islands of greenery with in the large paved area...or kanang mga royal palms within the concrete pavements gibutang, buhatan lag islands... basta wala mofit sa era and the historical significance sa fort and plaza ang new design sa park..IMO lang na ha. hahaha ayaw mog panghasi. hahaha! kaila baya nako ang usa sa gadesign anis pagcollege..ahehehe

the artistry of the new altars is something i look forward to every visita iglesia in cebu. but visiting 7 churches on holy thursday isnt this uniquely cebuano? i have asked many pinoys about their holy week traditions in their own locality but non has said about our way of doing it. they visit one or two churches in a day but not 7 and mostly on foot.

Cebu's Skyline has definitely changed since the last 4 years I've been actively checking this forum. The biggest change goes to the AITP area, from just 3 midrise buildings 4 years ago to the rise of the massive TGI tower, and now even it is beginning to be overshadowed by the other u/c buildings...

well for me, i just want urban developments to end at Nivel Hills because it has already been developed but going further up, i do not like. i would rather see tall plants rising there than tall buildings no matter how well they classify it as green design. there's no greater green than nature. :okay:

cebu city needs more tourist attraction that s affordable to cater local tourist..my family stayed 6 days in cebu city for my grad. in just three days nahutdan na mi suruyan.. hehe.. we've been to: museums, malls, sky adventure, mt.view, zipline, historical sites, ukay2, tunnel in SRP etc.. hope nga mkabuhat ang City ug man-made beach sa SRP para duol na kaayo mag-sun bathing.. amusement park and Zoo.. tnx diay Cebu-Bohol kay nalipay jud akong pamilya. Nindot jud daw ang Cebu,, hehehe.. hope ug mkabalik mi dra kay naa na tanan akong g-pangandoy sa Cebu.. Cebu - a world class destination... unsa na lng kung mahuman na ang SM SeaSide ug Ayala Expansion.. mas-mutaas n jud samot ang standard sa Cebuanos. Being a mindanawon, 5 years in Cebu is an easy way because it consists of a world class people and also to its infrastructure. and greatly, I thank Cebu for making me a religious person.. tnx for my alma mater (USC), friends (SSC-cebu, classmates) and the Cebuanos whose faith is soooo strong. These things make Cebu so blessed.. truly an Asian City of the Century, the Queen City of the South. CEBU

As for Cebuanos Faith, very strong. Cebuanos chose to stay in the city this Holy Week and reflect by visiting Churches, Via Crucis, Stations of the Cross in the mountains/hills of Cebu like Q Park, Siete Palabras and most specially the procession of the Santo Entierro yesterday nga a haskang daghanag taw nga halos nag abot nalang ang procession sa Holy Cross Parish sa Basak og Sto. Tomas de Villanueva Parish sa Pardo sa ka taas sa procession... I missed Holy Week in the Philippines specially here in Cebu. cebu city needs more tourist attraction that s affordable to cater local tourist..my family stayed 6 days in cebu city for my grad. in just three days nahutdan na mi suruyan.. hehe.. we've been to: museums, malls, sky adventure, mt.view, zipline, historical sites, ukay2, tunnel in SRP etc.. hope nga mkabuhat ang City ug man-made beach sa SRP para duol na kaayo mag-sun bathing.. amusement park and Zoo.. tnx diay Cebu-Bohol kay nalipay jud akong pamilya. Nindot jud daw ang Cebu,, hehehe.. hope ug mkabalik mi dra kay naa na tanan akong g-pangandoy sa Cebu.. Cebu - a world class destination... unsa na lng kung mahuman na ang SM SeaSide ug Ayala Expansion.. mas-mutaas n jud samot ang standard sa Cebuanos. Being a mindanawon, 5 years in Cebu is an easy way because it consists of a world class people and also to its infrastructure. and greatly, I thank Cebu for making me a religious person.. tnx for my alma mater (USC), friends (SSC-cebu, classmates) and the Cebuanos whose faith is soooo strong. Shopwise to open 12 stores in three years

SAN PEDRO, LAGUNA -- The Rustan’s retail group will continue the expansion of its supermarket chain, planning to open 10-12 supermarkets over the next three years.

With the launch of the ninth Shopwise branch in San Pedro, Laguna yesterday and one more Shopwise branch slated to open in Cebu City in the third quarter, the Tantoco-led retail firm is expecting a double-digit growth this year

The president of the Rustan Supercenters, Bienvenido V. Tantoco III, said the company expects to double its size in two to three years and compete with other big players in the industry.

“We are focused in [market] expansion and differentiation,” Mr. Tantoco said.

Meanwhile, Frances J. Yu, vice-president for marketing, told reporters the new Shopwise outlet is the biggest in terms of total land area.

The new Shopwise branch in Laguna boasts of 4,500 square meters (sq. m.) of retail space including a “mini-mall,” out of 12,000 sq. m. of land.

“It is a new generation Shopwise store. It has more modern facilities, wide aisles, and even a ’50s style diner,” Ms. Yu said.

any business venture is not ONLY targeted for Cebuanos. Cebu is a major tourist destination in the country both local and foreign and so it means, doing business in Cebu is thriving and upbeat!

..basin nakalimot ka...DUNKIN DONUT is not a local brand...it's also an international brand just like K.K....kung unsa ang nahitabo sa K.K. karon, the same thing sab before when D.D. was just new in the market and everyone went crazy magpasalubong from the capital :lol: ...D.D. has been around in Cebu market for almost 20 years or more siguro...ni-swak lang gyud siya in terms sa presyo og lasa sa mga Cebuano, hence, ni-survive sila!

Its okay to talk abt political issues constructively. But sometimes we become childish w/ our own comments that we end up becoming the very kind that we criticize our politicians for.
Anyway, this is just a forum but I chose to spend my time here in a way that my comments will not create conflict between the city and the province or the forumers supporting certain politicians, or conflict between Cebu & other provinces.:)

Metro Cebu (urbanized area) is quite small, that it would be more practical if it were governed as a single city, not a collection of cities and municipalities whose leaders sometimes dont get along well with each other

yep. LED traffic lights na ang gigamit sa cebu karon sir. yes and that's the reason why it needs to be replaced kay daghan ng dili maniga.

Og ang documentation sa event, wala sad maong bisag ako wa gyud koy idea kung unsa na ilang Sugat ka nindot kay wa man gyuy tarong nga info about the event sa net bisag sa youtube man lang. Kung wapa mi ni adto, wa mi kahibaw nga ingun ana diay ka special ilang Sugat nga gigastuhan gyud nilag dako pero wala kaayoy promotion maong murag sayang paminawn. When I was still in Sykes, I received a call from them if I would like to move to Bacolod and they will take care of everything. I knew the reason why they called me, it's because we have the same account and they need senior techs. I answered their call with I would love to if only I am from Bacolod.

Basic pay + transportation and meal allowance + attendance bonus + performance bonus + health care + free boarding with meals during the training and 1 month after the training.

Well, I really don't know the company that much! An employee from this company can shed more light about this, on what's really the real score when you are already working in one of their accounts?

i think their offer is based on the applicants qualification. if you dont have a good employment record (eg. bpo hopper) kasi sa wipro (i dunno if its specific to the account) dili gyud magpareho ang rates kahit pareho kayo nag start sa account, dili pud pareho ang rates sa kada agents, iba ang rates ng kada analysts, rates for every QA's are different din. same goes for the TL's. starting pay of QA's could range from 13k to 20k not so much but the yearly appraisal ranges from 5% to 25% of your basic. for cebus living standard, i think its generous enough. strict lang ang gyud ang clients, hiring rate nila sa applicants is 25% lang (medical account)

PS. we need licensed nurses and pharmacists with at least 6 months of clinical experience BPO experience not required. PM me

Kay during our transition sa Dell into TP sa MOA, lahi gyud ang pay sa TP--mas ubos kaayo as compared to the acquired asset company Dell. Mao na daghan kayo nagmigrate somewhere else. Yet correct ka diha, if kakita sila nga BPO hopper ka, puros "initial rate" ra igahatag.

i have this question ba, diba bantayan was given the privilege from the vatican to eat pork during lent because before town fisherfolks can't go out to fish in the sea during holy week. understandable sya coz practically those days refrigerators were not yet invented for food preservation. karon, lahi naman ang panahon. naa nay refrigerator, freezer, tanan means of food preservation and food supply is not limited anymore and so I guess its high time that the vatican should withdraw this privilege coz this has been abused already by some people who just wants to avoid Christian traditions that Bantayan is known for.

IMO, what really differs KK from other donut brands is its quality, flavor and taste. from day 1 it has opened in Bonifacio High Street until today wherein it has 19 and soon to be 20 branches. there has been no changes in the flavor and taste not even the slightest. Also, the taste and flavor of KK has not change even if you eat and have them in different branches. As what I have observed in their branches especially in MOA kiosk, MOA Factory Store, KK cart in Clark, SM NoE and in Bonifacio High Street, Demand has been very high to the extend that you have to wait for 20 to 30 minutes for them to cook new and fresh donuts. KK has taken the sweet toothed filipinos by storm. Marquee and Clark branches have high sales as per report says. KK in cebu will be a big hit and will take not only cebuanos but also other people from the provinces especially the sweet toothed ones.

Anyway, Bantayan is unique since if I'm not mistaken, there is indeed a Papal Bull (Arnold or Bantayanon, please correct me if I'm wrong) exempting Bantayanons with the rule during Lent.

We are in Bantayan today and tomorrow to witness what must appear to be both a blessing to the local parish as much as a burden it has to carry. For tomorrow, while the rest of Christendom will forego eating red meat at all costs and in all manner of cooking (or even the absence thereof), the town will host thousands of visitors and tourists not just here to witness the annual Good Friday procession but also to eat lechon, caldereta, humba and all the gustatory delights of red meat, on the unfounded allegation that it is allowed by the Catholic Church.

The reason behind this is found in a document, called an indult, issued in Rome by the Office of the Holy Inquisition in 1843. The document exempts the people of the parish from certain religious obligations, foremost of which is the prohibition against eating meat during the Semana Santa or Holy Week. The half-page piece of paper, now kept at the Bantayan Parish Museum and Archives, was purportedly issued only for Bantayan because its fishermen refused to go out to sea during this week due to some beliefs and practices.

But wait. The indult was lost for over a century until historian Trizer Dale Mansueto chanced upon it, folded and termite bitten at the edges tucked inside one of the ancient canonical baptismal books of the parish. Written in Spanish, the indult has, in fact, an expiration date! The exemption would last for only 10 years or until 1853, or a full decade before the completion of the coral stone church one sees today in Bantayan.

I do not wish to spoil the fun of eating lechon in Bantayan today and especially tomorrow but, all things considered, if no other document can be found to show that the indult was renewed, then it would be best to think twice before taking that big bite.

There is, of course, no biblical source behind the abstinence from meat on Fridays during Lent, which is why Protestants and other non-Catholic Christians do not practice it. The tradition apparently began during the first millennium of Christianity as a way to remind the faithful about the day of Christ’s death, a Friday. It must have been quite effective because the practice has survived today, a simple yet profound kind of sacrifice that has become increasingly noticeable in the modern world where everyone’s daily diet is dominated by red meat.

So, given that the indult lasted for only a decade (1843-1853), why the resilience in practice? I agree with Trizer in his observation that it has become a tradition already, taking a life of its own so that even the Catholic hierarchy, though it frowns on this very obvious violation of Catholic teachings, has had to find other ways to redirect the people’s faith and devotion on this day here. That has come, among others, in the form of the procession of pasos, life-size images in tableau form depicting the passion, death and resurrection of Christ.

There is so much social capital behind this procession in Bantayan that one does not perceive as much in other towns all over the country. Families spend thousands, even hundreds of thousands, just to mount their own version of any of the stations of the Cross, for example, much to the delight of tourists and visitors. It has, in a sense, become a kind of status symbol for old Bantayan families, a kind of provenance of their long line of pedigree, as it were, mounting these processional images for scores or decades now. For many of these pasos have been here for over a century or more already, giving way to the controversial question of whether some were originally owned by the church and were just placed in these families for safekeeping. Given the years that have passed, this is now something that is difficult to ascertain (except in the parish inventories) and is quite a sensitive issue best whispered in private.

Incidentally, Msgr. Tony Medida, head of the Parish of Sts. Peter and Paul is but the latest in a line of parish curates who have made a point to remind everyone that Good Friday is not the feast day of the parish, albeit the surge of people, both the curious and, I assume, the devotees far outweigh the annual fiesta, which happens in June yet.

A final word is in order. As we all partake bravely and with much remorse on that tasty lechon and the dinuguan that goes with it, let us not forget the suffering of Christ and look forward to the promise of resurrection and redemption. For penance, may I suggest not just prayers but also active vigilance in the protection of the cultural heritage of the churches and the treasure they contain in our midst.

i think it's a common part of being human, and from being used to living in a small town...i'm living in a small town in northern ontario these days, and most people here think that living in toronto is scary...to quote one of my co-workers: "i went on a trip to toronto and took the subway, i was really scared" :lol:

nothing bad about it though, big cities just need some getting used too (and so do small towns...my current 'city' has the same population as danao city, and i'm still adjusting to that after 3 months, as i've never lived in a city with a population below 500k before)

Filipino furniture designer Kenneth Cobonpue told Manila Bulletin that his Phoenix, the world's first and only car made from bamboo and rattan, was a "big hit" in Milan, Italy. It was showcased at the Salone Internazionale del Mobile during the Milan Design Week earlier this month.

According to Manila Bulletin, the Phoenix does not have an engine yet but it has caught the eye of the car industry. Cobonpue's managing partner in the US, Christopher Reiter, told Manila Bulletin that a visitor from Mercedes Benz was "amazed" by the design.

Reiter said, "He found the whole concept of a car made of bamboo and rattan so raw and yet so rich in terms of design and sustainability. Two other leading car manufacturers are also interested to pursue a collaborative project with Kenneth." According to Manila Bulletin, Consul General Lourdes Soliman Tabamo lauded Cobonpue's work. In an intimate dinner she hosted in Milan for Cobonpue and his staff, she said, "This is a moment of national pride for all of us."

Manila Bulletin quoted Cobonpue as saying, "I am very pleased with the feedback from everyone who came to visit our booth and saw the intricacy of the craftsmanship and the genius of the Filipino design."

Inquirer.net likened the Phoenix to a sleek bird posed to take flight. "It has a (vertebra) or spine that runs to the rear where it forms into a splay of rattan bundled with LED (Light Emitting Diode) rods to emit light; that's the tail light. The rear is also the space for the car engine." It took months to design the Phoenix, and 10 days to build it in Cobonpue's factory in Cebu.

I think it is really a normal reaction for every people who move, live or work in another city or country. And it will be more scary if you drive around. Just like when I started driving here using a right hand drive car. It scared the hell out of me, driving here was completely a different experience from Cebu or RP. They respect and using the road codes here. Good thing that with todays technology we won't be lost. Just use a navigator for cars and cellphones with Google Map for travellers or tourists.

Akong gilista ang upcoming, expansion og existing. I noticed nga about half sa existing total Gross Floor Area ang mo open nga mga new Gross Floor Areas. So it means a big adjustment for Cebu when those new malls will open (2011-2013). Murag mabaghu-an gyud ang Cebu ani da!

I respect your opinion about Cebu, but IMO, I think it is more because of you who got out of your comfort zone from Davao and it is not really Cebu at all! Like in the case of SleMarKen who went to Singapore, it is a great place but he was still scared the first time that he set his foot there. Also in my case, NZ is a great place. You can say that there is a system that is working here, but I was really scared at first because I don't know how life and things work here. There's no place like home!

And you have always the options... :)

Sorry for not being clear diay..Daghan diay meaning sa word nga "options"...Di na mao ako pasabot Inday Shak..Pasabot nako, you have the options to either let the good side of the place outweighs the bad side or the other way around.

But the good thing, is that Cebu is moving forward...Not only in economy, but as you can observe that our officials are bent on making Cebu a better place for all.

And as you said, peace and order situation in Cebu is indeed improving. Beautification and cleanliness drive is on going. Infrastructure projects are on queues.

Currently we (my teammates are also Cebuanos) are developing a firmware for a high-resolution wristwatch (somewhat like a stripped down version of iPod Nano) with worldtime capability...We requested to put Cebu on the timezone list instead of Manila...And request granted... :D ...So, the list would look like this:

i think it's a common part of being human, and from being used to living in a small town...i'm living in a small town in northern ontario these days, and most people here think that living in toronto is scary...to quote one of my co-workers: "i went on a trip to toronto and took the subway, i was really scared" :lol:

nothing bad about it though, big cities just need some getting used too (and so do small towns...my current 'city' has the same population as danao city, and i'm still adjusting to that after 3 months, as i've never lived in a city with a population below 500k before)

^^Same when I went to Singapore alone. I really felt scared being lost and nervous about the policies that I might violate etc.. But when I went to a small town in Malaysia alone, felt like chicken coz I know it's easy to roam around a small town and will never be lost.:yes:

same with me... After 2 days sa Taiwan, I went all the way to Taipei alone (to Taipei 101) without their help coz they're still not that familiar sa city bisag pila na sila ka tuig but for me, it's quite easy coz sa Cebu pa lang, kahibaw nako sa suok suok sa Taipei courtesy of google earth pero wa ko nakuyawan kay naa man koy kaila within the city or country incase nga mawala, pwede ra motawag sa dormitory. Same sa Malaysia nga naabot kog mga isla nga way kuyog :lol:. Pero when I went to SG is a different story, passing 3 airports and entering a country alone nga way guarantee nga questionon ka sa airport pa lang daan. Way kuyog from 1st airport all the way my hostel. Naa gyuy kakulba pero thinking nga na suheto na ko sa mga dan, courtesy again of google earth so mo labaw japon ang excitement :yes: So it's about knowing the place first before nga ma at ease ka of living and working there for good:yes:

pero at least ba, before you make those kinds of comments against another city, try to put yourself sa in the eyes of people who arent from your city and see if they dont see the same things in your city. yes gubot ang cebu, pero makaingon ba ka nga walay gubot sa inyo? try to check your own backyard first before you comment on your neighbor's. i've been to your city, and its not as picture perfect as what you are trying to paint here- it has it flaws and issues, but at least I dont go and publicly trash it in internet forums.

ASIDE from its mall project at the South Road Properties (SRP), SM Prime Holdings is also completing its other mall in Consolacion town.

SM Prime president Hans Sy said the three-level project cost them P1.2 billion, as they started out with rebuilding an old structure and then demolishing it to build a new one.

While the original plan was to build a two-storey mall, they later decided to add a third level.

The mall will take up 70,000 square meters and Sy said they are hoping to finish it by the end of the year.

After these two malls, Sy said they will open a fourth one in Cebu, although he declined to name the locations he is considering.

The company has 10 projects going on. Aside from the malls, they also have hotel projects in the works.

Sy said he recently met with top officials of the Carlson Group, which manages the Radisson Blu Hotel, to negotiate for the management of a hotel near the Mall of Asia.

He said they also expressed interest in managing a hotel project that SM Prime plans to build within the SM Seaside Complex at the SRP.

Sy was in Cebu recently to launch the SM Seaside City at the SRP.

He said SM envisions this project as a one-stop family venue where people can go for shopping, dining, leisure entertainment and other services.

He also hopes to see a school built within the SRP complex, saying it is only fitting for a development with residences to have a church, a hospital and a school nearby.

Though they already own the National University, Sy said they have not decided if they will put up one in the community.

Sy added that Cebu has many good schools and that his recent announcement about their interest to have a school built in the complex could catch the interest of some of these local schools.

If you check the archives, it's actually again a recycled issue from a Davaoeña. We've been thru this before, almost or every year we face recycled issue from a Davaoeña or Davaoeño. I hope that in the coming days and years, we will no longer entertain this kind of thought or comment for it's no longer worth a comment if it is just coming from one place and one race! I am trying to understand and analyze why most if not all Davaoeños/Davaoeñas including some of my cousins in Davao and ex-officemates in Sykes have this kind of attitude against Cebu. If you check the archives, it's actually again a recycled issue from a Davaoeña. We've been thru this before, almost or every year we face recycled issue from a Davaoeña or Davaoeño. I hope that in the coming days and years, we will no longer entertain this kind of thought or comment for it's no longer worth a comment if it is just coming from one place and one race! I am trying to understand and analyze why most if not all Davaoeños/Davaoeñas including some of my cousins in Davao and ex-officemates in Sykes have this kind of attitude against Cebu. Please don't let me conclude that it is an attitude problem!

Cebu isn't the perfect place for everyone. Places are like people-- they have good and bad sides, but to truly consider it your home, you embrace all its faults and its finer things.

hay naku, with all the issues at hand today, im not surprised anymore. theyre all from one place and one city lang naman. at least ang cebu di na kailangan mag resort to their "style" para lang bumango at gumanda. theyve been doing that to other mindanao cities visayan cities pa kaya? we should understand where their frustrations are coming from. lets not forget that "cebu" is a very easy brand to sell and expect issues and statements like that from "nameless" places. but thanks to her observation, akala ko ako lang nakaka observe that cebu is getting better :lol: sad thing lang is that while cebu gets better... others get bitter

CEBU, Philippines - Cebu City Councilor Jose Daluz is pushing for the development of a 179-hectare forest reserve in Barangay Toong into a theme park.

Daluz is seeking the assistance of the Bureau of Forestry to allow the Cebu City government to have administrative control over the property.

Daluz said an ad hoc committee will be created to process the application to develop the area into a park that will promote environmental protection. He assured that all developments will not alter the environment but rather jive with it.

A master plan, according to Daluz, will be drawn up on the proposed theme park that will house flower and butterfly gardens and bird sanctuaries.

The project will not cost the city much since it will enter into a partnership with the private sector.

“Toong will be the next investment of Cebu and I hope this will push through,” he said, adding that if the plan will materialize, the theme park will be the first in the city.

Daluz said the plan is still subject to review and approval of Mayor Michael Rama and the City Council.

Rama earlier expressed support to any plans of establishing theme parks in the city because it allegedly gives joy to children. — (FREEMAN)

CEBU, Philippines - Aside from its plan to expand existing residential projects within Metro Cebu, Aboitiz Land Inc. has announced the establishment of posh mixed-use resort residential development in the northern part of Cebu.

This new project, which will be located in Canduman area, will have 12 medium rise buildings composed of a total of 1,064 chic residential condominium units.

AboitizLand Inc. vice president for marketing and sales Manuel U. Arbues II said that the four-hectare property in Canduman will be transformed into a paradise-like environment, with big open green spaces will be allocated to give way for a total wellness and healthy environment among residents.

The company is planning to launch this project by the third quarter of this year. The construction of this big project will have a separate budget, on top of the allocated P1.2 billion capital expenditure (capex) that the company will pour for expansion of its existing residential projects.

Because of the good perception of all Aboitiz Land’s developed residential projects in different parts of Metro Cebu, Arbues said that the company is on an active lookout for further project developments in the next few years.

He mentioned that further expansion for its subdivision project Kishanta is underway. Kishanta is the first residential project of AboitizLand in the southern part of Cebu, located on the hills of Lagtang, Talisay City.

He said the demand for house and lot packages in Cebu, especially for good locations like “over-looking” landscapes, is getting much stronger now. Introduced about four years ago, Kishanta’s total 600 lot-only and house and lot packages are almost sold out.

Also, the near-beach residential project of the company named “Ajoya” located in Cordova, Mactan Island, is also selling actively, he reported.



At present, the horizontal construction of the facilities and subdivision’s infrastructure is over 90 percent done, and that Aboitiz Land targets to turn over the sold units to owners by third or fourth quarter this year.

Expansion plans will also be started in the company’s other projects such as the Persimmon condominiums in Mabolo area.

At present, the company is working at building its third tower, to accommodate more interested condominium buyers.

Moreover, the town-house project of the high-end Pristina North, called Pristina North Residences will be introduced this month.

Aside from the wide array of residential projects, AboitizLand is also on the works to build an integrated development that will attract the commercial market, specifically the Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) sector. (FREEMAN)

^^ siguro, basin adventurous lang gyud ko...the 1st time I came here in Riyadh and knowing this city which is one of the most strict in the world... my fellow OFW (mga old-timers na) were shocked to learn na the next day i was able to go to Pinoy Market (read: alone and without asking their help) which is very far from our office's location... :lol: basta, mag research lang ka sa lugar before nimo suroyon og na-a ka kwarta, wala gyu'y problema para nako :lol: ...same thing sa akong paglaroy-laroy sa Hongkong, China and Taiwan...

big cities dont scare me, i thrive in crowded urban environments as i find the fast-pace of life and the energy from the large masses of people exhilarating...it's those small ones where buildings are few and far in between, and where transportation options are limited, that makes me fear for my life :lol:

Luoy gud kaayo ang sitwasyon sa Cebu. Being an oasis in the heart of a third world country with so little support from national government, we can't really just scratch off these negative effects of economic growth.

I hope, we can really be a federal state...Since we can't really expect that much support from national government, so why not manage our own income and just pay our dues to the national coffer.

Wala jud diay gihapon ni mahuman ang bashing between cities? hehehe! Kaalegre intawn. Apan bisan unsaon pa nato ug kompara, parehas raman gihapon tanan. Bisan asa ka adto sa Pilipinas, Pilipinong-pilipino pa rin. Ang jeep, ang tricycle, ang manglilimos sa daplin.

We are a very humble people yet so warm and hospitable. Sa atong kahospitable, kita nala'y maikog kung ang atong lugar wala'y ikapanghambog. Ang resulta, isig pahambogay nalang ta between ourselves. It's a good time to be alive in Cebu. You can see changes happening every single day. You can see the future of this city rising, soaring. At least in our lifetime, we can say 'I have seen my world change. I have seen my world--LIVE.' I guess the challenge I now bring is, are we going to become part of that change? Or are we going to become one of those people who just live life everyday not knowing that the life they live is a result of someone working to create that change?
