That was how I always felt when crossing the bridge when I come home from Cebu City/Mandaue. However, tarongon lang unta ang basic services, ang road networks, public places. And more trees that line the streets. Sad to say, the government has been way behind the private initiative. Anyway, I think I feel the same way when I leave from Mandaue and enter Lacion or Lilo-an. I hope that we really contain urban development within the urban core..if possible, within Cebu City and Mandaue City. Build more highrises, increase density, while minimizing the urbanization of the suburbs. One thing that I find worrisome in Mactan is the rapid increase in population. I guess at much higher rates than Cebu City and Mandaue City. It is not the population increase itself, but the problems that come with it, considering how it is currently being managed. The lack of proper urban planning, the lack of general sympathy towards its inhabitants by its LGU, the lack of a visionary leadership. It worries me how it's going to manage to absorb this influx of people. cyberCEBU June 16th, 2012, 05:55 AM Mary and Guido.... this is another creative pre-nup narrative vid. o6LPbHHaEhE cyberCEBU June 16th, 2012, 06:17 AM Cebu City Dev’t Council Use funds for drainage 6/16/2012 at CDN Flyover proponents in Cebu City suffered another blow when the local development council yesterday rejected a proposal to fund two more flyover projects in the north district. In their meeting, the City Development Council headed Mayor Michael Rama said funds should be rechanneled to drainage projects and traffic master plans instead. “Lack of CDC endorsement means that the two flyover projects cannot be implemented,” the mayor said during the meeting. read more here (http://cdn.ph/news_details.php?id=13841) MatudNilaBaby June 16th, 2012, 06:19 AM Mary and Guido.... this is another creative pre-nup narrative vid. o6LPbHHaEhE modagan naman unta ko pero ning hunong gyud ko kay motan-aw ani. kataw-anan sab ni da. maayo kon magdaghan para ma maintstream na at least sa kabisay-an provinces:lol: diehardbisdak June 16th, 2012, 09:36 AM the newly refurbished Waterfront Hotel & Casino http://zerothreetwo.com/champagnesupernova/wp-content/uploads/2012/06/Untitled_Panorama1.jpg http://zerothreetwo.com/champagnesupernova/wp-content/uploads/2012/06/ZTTFlambe.jpg source: http://zerothreetwo.com/ :D rustyboi June 16th, 2012, 09:49 AM Jay Taruc searches for a hero's identity and legacy in 'Lapu Lapu' (http://www.gmanetwork.com/news/video/123109/jay-taruc-searches-for-a-hero-s-identity-and-legacy-in-lapu-lapu) For the first time in Philippine television, I-Witness traces Lapu Lapu's identity, his culture, and his legacy that will put him in his rightful place in the annals of our Philippine history. Marco Polo Plaza in Cebu boasts of 329 guest rooms and suites, five dining venues, a spa and wellness Zone, swimming pool, business center, and over 2,400 square metres of meeting space, one ballroom and 12 function rooms. Davao, with less rooms and suites, nonetheless offers the same excellent dining, leisure and function room options. “Cebu has set an exceptional benchmark. Ortigas is a different market mix but we aim to make this new five-star hotel at par, if not surpass that (benchmark),” he says, adding, “Why Ortigas? There is a dearth of five-star hotels in the Quezon City and Ortigas area. The Manila market, overall, has the most stable hotel rate in Southeast Asia. Ortigas Center is one of the strongest and most stable CBD markets.” more: http://www.mb.com.ph/articles/362425/marco-polo-adds-to-the-ortigas-skyline :D ProjectA03 June 17th, 2012, 09:51 AM http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=3122086490599&set=p.3122086490599&type=3:banana::banana::banana::banana: Jimbu June 17th, 2012, 10:08 AM dapat unta Phuket o Ko Samui ang nakabutang instead sa Palawan kay para all international ang matching. :D bitaw, usa raman nalahi Palawan ra :) diehardbisdak June 17th, 2012, 04:10 PM http://www.philippineconcerts.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/05/david-cook-manila.jpg http://www.philippineconcerts.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/05/tears-for-fears-live-in-manila-and-cebu-2012.jpg source: http://http://ilovemandaue.wordpress.com :D mottymot_007 June 17th, 2012, 04:30 PM Maayong gabii, Sugbo! http://i1165.photobucket.com/albums/q592/tauma007/SSC%20Cebu%20City/12.jpg slimer June 17th, 2012, 05:50 PM http://www.philippineconcerts.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/05/david-cook-manila.jpg http://www.philippineconcerts.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/05/tears-for-fears-live-in-manila-and-cebu-2012.jpg source: http://http://ilovemandaue.wordpress.com :D mga paborito man ni nako tanan! my favorite David Cook performance on American Idol! h_aiawC-9aM credit to the youtube poster bakasaurus June 17th, 2012, 06:05 PM ^^ gipakita ra na agawon nga naa pud tay parehong mga sites and sounds na makita sa ubang lugar. even though Cebu is already a brand, we should not be too complacent about it kay basin unya mauwahi na tas panon. We will always become what we see ourselves to be. Tinuod man nga we are not a first world country (although that system of classifying coutries is quite outdated), but we can never rise up if we are stuck with that so called "third world" mentality. Kana bang, "third world ra man gud ta.." nga way of thinking. With that comes a quick and painless acceptance of things as beyond our control. That it's okay for our roads and public services to be not as we want them or hope them to be. Kay third world ra man ta. We rationalize to make things so much more acceptable. But then that makes us often demand less of ourselves, of our public officials. That deeply ingrained inferiority complex. I don't know an easy way to combat that, but it is one of the things that keeps us from moving up. At least, for us Cebuanos, at the national level or kung sa Pilipinas lang ang hisgutan, we have a sense of pride. Dili ta palupig sa uban. Now where is this stance, when we face the international stage? I hope it never wavers. There is something to be learned from Kenneth Cobonpue. People asked him why such expensive furniture when they are made in a third world country? What he answered inspired me and lighted a bulb up in my head and made me swell with pride. He said that it is expensive because it is of excellent quality and the talent and skill required to make them is worth the price. I may never be able to buy his furniture, not until he makes a line for the poorer people like me, but I would always be inspired everytime I see one. That is one excellent Cebuano. That is a kind of Cebuano that we ought to become - secure of himself, proud of his roots and his place, even in the face of the whole world. It is NOT about the order of world we come from (1st, 2nd or third or whatever). Tanawa gud na ang giquote ni @master diehard nga article. Ako ibold ang lami kaayo paminawon nga mga linya. Kay said Iola's furniture was manufactured by "master weavers" in the Philippines. Like most manufacturers, Iola used synthetic rattan as natural resources of the plant had been severely depleted, he said, adding that natural rattan tended to rot if it was left outside. Kay said it was not feasible to make the furniture in New Zealand as skilled weavers were not available. "The main guys that we employ are from the island of Cebu, which is where the industry was born," he said. "The skill they've got is a pretty rare commodity." Through its various news programs on Channel 2 and ANC, ABS-CBN is now providing Filipinos with the most accurate and up-to-date weather information to keep them safe and informed anywhere in the country. “Despite being home to famously dynamic weather, the Philippines has always had problems with reliable local weather forecasting. We have seen the tragic impact of weather-related disasters on people’s lives,” said Ging Reyes, head of ABS-CBN News and Current Affairs. Reyes said Weather Central would give ABS-CBN access to the most precise weather data, with remarkable tools for conveying relevant and easily understandable weather information to better serve the needs of its viewers and users across all media platforms. Currently, ABS-CBN newscasts like “Umagang Kay Ganda” and “TV Patrol,” and ANC’s newscasts from “Headstart” to “The World Tonight” are using the new weather system’s interactive and engaging interface in its weather segments. Weather Central, the most viewed broadcast weather system in the world, combines patented technologies and exclusive storytelling tools that enable ABS-CBN’s weather presenters to better explain weather forecasts and engage their audiences with its interactive technology and powerful imagery featuring cutting-edge graphics, virtual sets, map animations, and realistic images. Recognizing the importance of weather to Filipinos’ lifestyle, ABS-CBN Weather Central will be helpful to parents and students especially during the upcoming back-to-school season and families who plan to organize weekend trips because it features five-day forecasts and precise temperature data, and detects earthquakes. It also uses Philippine-wide, high-resolution forecasts not currently offered by any network in the country today, enabling ABS-CBN and ANC newscasts to provide locally relevant and pinpoint accuracy of weather information from where they are or where they are going. For instance, Weather Central can specify the weather in Quezon City vis-à-vis Manila, in Mandaue vis-à-vis Cebu, or Kalibo vis-a-vis Boracay. Filipinos, meanwhile, can personalize ANC’s weather services according to their own needs online via ABS-CBNNews.com, or on their mobile phones through ABS-CBN’s weather app, which will soon be available to iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad, and Android devices. http://www.philstar.com/Article.aspx?articleId=807746&publicationSubCategoryId=75 diehardbisdak June 18th, 2012, 04:42 PM Do you have the link to 7-Eleven Philippines' foursquare account? That last line was music to my ears.:) We should realize that we are a rare commodity (apil na lang tas kahig a.k.a. basking in reflected glory), and we should make our own mark. That statement came not from a Cebuano, but from a New Zealander. Now, IMO this one is a better way to do it. lisod kung ang mentalidad nas katawhan maoy naay deperensya og maoy modominar...sama sa akong signature sa gika-ingon pang noy Plato "This City is what it is because our citizens are what they are.” :D slerz June 18th, 2012, 10:40 PM [QUOTE=cyberCEBU] Ulat ng panahon ni Kuya Kim.... http://a.yfrog.com/img140/4192/h63.png ^^^^ Ikaw na lng mag Kuya Kim kay sweto man ka hehehe ABS-CBN gets advanced weather forecast system (The Philippine Star) Updated May 17, 2012 12:00 AM Comments (0) View comments http://www.philstar.com/Article.aspx?articleId=807746&publicationSubCategoryId=75 advanced lagi pero ang nag forecast pataka lang. The society is a reflection of the people. That's why I don't blame the politicians for everything because they wouldn't be there without the people supporting them and people being civic minded themselves. An example is you cannot blame the politicians for the dirty streets. You can probably blame them for not installing trash bins but people are the ones throwing trash everywhere and peeing on walls instead of doing these things at their homes. I think awareness and education can make things better. Also, you have to be very careful about constructive criticisms because most people get defensive and attack the messenger deflecting from the issue itself. CLEANING UP http://www.snipcebu.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/06/PIC1-600x399.jpg Cebu City has hired a contractor to clean creeks, rivers and other waterways in the city to help ease the flooding that always comes with the rains these days. In the photo, the creek that traverses Jakosalem St. at the back of Gaisano Main in the downtown area is being cleared of debris. The creek has been overflowing lately following heavy rains. See here SnipCebu’s photo of the streets surrounding this creek when it overflows. The clean-up is also in preparation for Tropical Storm Butchoy which was last seen east of Eastern Samar. Rains are expected in Cebu today. source: http://www.snipcebu.com/2012/06/15/cleaning-up/ :D does it look like a tunnel creek or river pa na siya? who the hell gave a building permit for the construction of that building? The police need to kick back a little, too. Nalusuan is a 30-minute boat ride away from Lapu-Lapu City. It is one of those islands off Lapu-Lapu and Cordova whose names are said to have “racy” origins. Nalusuan supposedly comes from “luso,” a Cebuano word for penis. Some of the other islands with interesting names are Caohagan and Caubian, all of which belong to the Olango Island Group. You’re going to have to ask someone with a good grasp of Cebuano for the origins of those island names and their English translation. soruce: http://www.snipcebu.com/2012/06/19/police-conference/ :D diehardbisdak June 19th, 2012, 05:36 PM ...after establishing GELATISSIMO Philippines' main office in Cebu....now, it's YOGORINO Italy (bigger than Gelatissimo in terms of worlwide franchising) SM City Cebu http://a2.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc6/250416_206037172767481_3092946_n.jpg http://a1.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc6/255681_206781899359675_6859335_n.jpg http://a7.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc6/248246_207933022577896_3550489_n.jpg Robinsons Cybergate Cebu http://a6.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash4/58162_151457774892088_4706486_n.jpg ...and one more branch at Robinson's Cebu (Main) sources: http://www.yogorino.com/shops_research.asp http://www.yogorino.com.ph/ http://www.facebook.com/yogorinophils :D diehardbisdak June 19th, 2012, 05:38 PM ...after establishing GELATISSIMO Philippines' main office in Cebu....now, it's YOGORINO Italy (bigger than Gelatissimo in terms of worlwide franchising) SM City Cebu http://a2.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc6/250416_206037172767481_3092946_n.jpg http://a1.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc6/255681_206781899359675_6859335_n.jpg http://a7.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc6/248246_207933022577896_3550489_n.jpg Robinsons Cybergate Cebu http://a6.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash4/58162_151457774892088_4706486_n.jpg ...and one more branch at Robinson's Cebu (Main) sources: http://www.yogorino.com/shops_research.asp http://www.yogorino.com.ph/ http://www.facebook.com/yogorinophils :D julfinch June 19th, 2012, 06:05 PM so the pope is coming to our city this 2016?!?!? di man sad daw guarantee bai na mutunga ang pope basta naay ingon ani na congress, pero sa report sa TV patrol central visayas ganiha,invite-on daw nila ang pope ug paninguhaon daw ni kanhi Cardinal Vidal na mutunga ang Pope.Depende nalang kung tugtan/musugot. Wishing to match our more of European cities branding and styles: Look at the small space needed. People and cars blend well with the fixed rail safety. (Cebu is not copying developing South America) 6Muesx8xrlw My take on this topic: The Problem : Worsening Traffic Solution : Mass Transport System (BRT/LRT/MRT) For now BRT was selected as the best solution at least for the next five years or so, based on studies. And, I don’t want to dig deeper into the reason why BRT was selected over the other since it’s been discussed here before and I’m okay with it IMHO. What I want to say is that, it is not bad to be skeptical but I think it should be supported on factual grounds. I said that because based on your arguments, as I understood, it is somehow applicable also to your preferred Mass Transport System solution which is LRT/MRT. I for one also prefer the latter same as you do but as they said the cost is too much for the cause at least for the current situation. Do you think you won’t walk 100+ yards if LRT is selected? MRT/LRT in manila is crowded as hell plus it is inconvenient since you will have to walk 2 stories up and down for a ride contrary to the BRT station as seen on the initial render. Hope if LRT/MRT comes the station will be like the BRT station. As for the jeepney ride, yes it is very much convenient for us riders but for the worsening traffic I don’t think we’d still be stuck in this ineffective transport system. Just .05 cents:) bakasaurus June 21st, 2012, 05:30 AM True. If he wants to use the taxi he can surely do it even if the BRTs there. If he wants to continue using jeepneys that drop him off his doorstep he can live in the rural areas. And this isn't even to say that he can't do that in the city because the BRT only runs in the major thoroughfares. Lastly, no one died walking 100 yards. Last time I checked, it can even add to your life. Our bodies were meant to move than sit the whole time. Re: consultation. I thought there were consultations held since 2 years ago? I hope they'd clarify this because I think consultations especially with the affected drivers are imperative in the implementation of BRT. I remember that it was done. Where could this drive have been hiding? I hope he isn't like those parents who never attend the PTA meetings and complain the most. Basin wala nitunga. In any case, it's also probably not enough. They should make sure that the message cuts across. But consultation with them doesn't mean they get to decide whether BRT would be implemented or not. It is only to find ways to accommodate and mitigate the negative impacts on their livelihood. This is the part where the city government/national government should use its muscle. Sleepwalker June 21st, 2012, 05:40 AM ^^Bai Baka, i still remember na-mention to sa una ang bahin consultation with the affected transport group...Basin kato'ng na-interview nga driver, kay bag-o to siya nga driver... Or at least, pataod taoran pud ba...Milyones baya diay ang gasto ani, plus infra para ani. http://gallery.sunstar.com.ph/Photos/SunStar-Affiliates/June/i-XHcq3dL/0/L/Palma-Vidal-on-Pedro-Calungsod-L.jpg Sleepwalker June 21st, 2012, 06:11 AM The tourists, the sidewalk and the beggar http://farm6.staticflickr.com/5470/7368711932_12e8eb029c_b.jpg EdithB June 21st, 2012, 06:26 AM This will be just a fad Who's going to walk 100 yards+ to ride a scheduled BRT.. Then go, shop and carry those bags another 100 yards back home. It will be a 2+ ride each way for ost people. Cebu is hot and humid all year and a moonsoon season. -Wait for a crowded bus to come. -Forget about having a seat Bus are designed for standing and runs on rush hours only. Of course a Taxi ride actually will be more convenient and perhaps cheaper (People do not shop alone - maybe in groups of 4 or 5) No hassle walking many yards to a bus stop. I hope my cheaper than taxi jeepney ride will not be aboilished by politicians who will profit from this. Wishing to match our more of European cities branding and styles: Look at the small space needed. People and cars blend well with the fixed rail safety. (Cebu is not copying developing South America) 6Muesx8xrlw . People would willingly walk for 5 minutes. What's the distance between stations? I think the BRT would complement the jeepneys and not phase them out. I personally don't want the jeepneys gone. They are part of our culture. Sleepwalker June 21st, 2012, 06:30 AM Bisan tuod nabalik balik na ni og post, pero grand ug imposing gud kaayo og dating ang Cebu Capitol building. June 21st, 2012, 07:22 AM True. True. Singapore, a tropical country, has a very efficient transport system. Long walks in tree-lined sidewalks. Dapat kung naa nay BRT, patas-an ug maayo ang presyo sa taxi. jochval June 21st, 2012, 07:29 AM ^^ di pud wui, may lang ug 24 hours ang BRT, kay unsaon na lang ning mga noctural nga taw labi na sabado, daghan jud nocturnal diha sa mango, di na kaaford mag taxi..... gud2ya June 21st, 2012, 07:55 AM liko sa ko gamay sa discussion. :) Cebu's first 7-Eleven store will open next week. where? Mandaue City! across UC-LM campus at the foot of Mandaue-Mactan bridge. I noticed several 7-eleven tarps signifying construction works around the city: - across Capitol building, Escario St. corner Don Gil Garcia St. - across Ayala mall (Tune hotel) - JY mall complex, IT building ground floor - Bigfoot building, F. Ramos St. is there in I.T. Park? mao man siguro na pinaka feasible diri Cebu. posted last march: Coming to Cebu... Asa kaha dapit? http://franchisingphilippines.net/wp-content/uploads/2011/05/seven-eleven-franchise-philippines.png my guess is somewhere in mandaue...  projectile June 21st, 2012, 08:02 AM WOW! MRT/LRT in manila is crowded as hell plus it is inconvenient since you will have to walk 2 stories up and down for a ride contrary to the BRT station as seen on the initial render. Hope if LRT/MRT comes the station will be like the BRT station. i so agree with this. been there, done that. which is why i'm hoping we won't need to go up and down a skywalk just to go to one station. i'm not adverse to walking 5-10mins to go to a station as long as sidewalks are wide and free from obstacles. and hopefully, they will be tree lined to provide shades for the pedestrians. and jeepneys have to go, IMO. they contribute much to the pollution of the city. they could be used alternatively for tourists to use as hop in and hop off vehicles to go to tourist spots in the metro. like in gabi-i sa kabilin. federalist June 21st, 2012, 08:24 AM ang mga tapulanluoy gyud kaayu inig sugod sa BRT. ako lang ma compare mga Singaporeans mga tiguwang gani didto manglakaw man gani unya magbarog sa bus kung occupied na mga reserved seats sa bus. maconpare lang gyud nino unsa ka mga tapulan mga pinoy mao dugay moasenso. sa Manila samot pa gyud ka tapulan mga tawo didto ky bisan pirti duola mag tricycle mao maka cause sa traffic gasto pa gyud kaayu sa pliti. maayo unta naa say express bus sa BRT like kanang few stops ra ba, di tanang bus stops hunongan bahala medyo mahal2x iya pliti compared sa ordinary para sa mga nagdali. lamia na nya e drive inig 2020 nga halos naa nay BRT tibook Sugbo kay minos2x na traffic. diehardbisdak June 21st, 2012, 09:10 AM ...after Whale Shark Watching, local/foreign tourists are heading to Tumalog Water Falls - Oslob, Cebu (also known as Ambakan Falls or Toslob Falls) xwUEppwcv5M http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-NhLxoGMlPBg/Td9QfGBgwQI/AAAAAAAAANs/iiNNJLbNS9Y/s640/JAC_8374.JPG http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-doiCb8Y6Yt8/Td9QxwBuxkI/AAAAAAAAAN4/Ugso9MVl-LU/s640/JAC_8437.JPG http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-_u5YAFbqBoA/Td9QzIcXMbI/AAAAAAAAAN8/N82kwz9T1lI/s640/JAC_8457.JPG pics source: http://tunobtuslobtilaw.blogspot.com :D |
