bakasaurus June 21st, 2012, 11:13 AM ^^Bai Baka, i still remember na-mention to sa una ang bahin consultation with the affected transport group...Basin kato'ng na-interview nga driver, kay bag-o to siya nga driver... :)
Mao gyud bai. Basin newbie to gna driver. Hehe. Pero as it stands, I think and I believe naa pa ni sila daghan consultations in the near future.
Wala pa nigawas ang service plan, pero I predict, ug nahisgutan man pod to ni Sir Zid sa una, nga possible kaayo na ang express nga buses, especially maybe during the rush hours, or spaced out a bit less frequent compared to the normal buses.
Kana ako gibold bai, sorry but I hope that many people would not think like you. Tingali og motor ra, ok ra siguro, pero the best response from the public that I hope would happen would be : Aw dili na diay kinahanglan pa muggamit ug awto (at least kung dili gyud kinahanglan) kay mas dali man diay mugamit na lang sa BRT!
Imagine yourself multiplied by thousands, and we are back to square 1. Haha.
Exactly bai! That would be the ideal case. But there are several challenges here, but at the same time, they are business opportunities. First, the monitoring of bicycles. Sorry to say, but as of now, we have a strong culture of thievery (which I really hope will change). But as you said, there is the opportunity of providing rental bikes if we can find a creative way around this security problem.
Another way would be for the BRT system itself to provide a guarded bicycle parking facility near the stations, which of course can pay for itself from the user fees.
I also hope that the bus design would accommodate bicycles ( even if the slots are limited). I saw some bus before with a sort of extension at the back where bicycles can be parked and transported. We should embrace the bicycle culture as the benefits are exceedingly worth the switch.

I afraid yo are right ! I recommend an elevated monorail. Which definitely is more expensive, but absolutely effective:
1) it does not take away a car lane for its own
2) and it is out of reach of any accidents with existing traffic
3) less traffic jams
4) can accommodate more people within a given time
5) and it could even be Pinoy-made !
Modern cities solution to high gas and toll fees.
More in line with President Aquino ...Philippines' public- private partnership (PPP) program
rather than government multi million $$$ debt to run inexperienced Mass Transit like kaoshiung buses.
New Jersey buses are going down Bus drivers and unions are not happy today.
We have to redesign the old Cebu jeepneys which delay payments, loading and unloading.
New Jersey jitneys are a pleasure to ride. Fast, more frequent and cheap.
Limousine suspension, air-con and Salsa music. Paying fares are so much easier.
Passengers can stand inside and prepare themselves to exit the door.

Zuburbia June 21st, 2012, 11:13 PM ^^Bai Baka, i still remember na-mention to sa una ang bahin consultation with the affected transport group...Basin kato'ng na-interview nga driver, kay bag-o to siya nga driver... :)
diri sa dubai miski init kayo manglakaw man ang mga taw, wa pa jud kayoy waiting shed diri og kahoy ang sidewalks.... ako magdala kos akong grocery maglakaw padong sa layo layo nga metro station.. and from my job site to the metro station mga 1.5 kilometers... naay bus stop duol sa akong site pero usahay if di ko magdali nahan ko molakaw padong sa train station nga 1.5 kilometers for an exercise and lami ra pod maminaw sa imo mp3 player while walking and site seeing gamay and pasiplat sa mga cuties.. hahaha! one thing nga makapa-enganyo sa mga taw to walk is improve the city environment and sidewalks, it would stimulate our senses and makapawala sa stress from work...
about sa pag grocery and magdala sa imong pinalit, huna hunaon lang pod nimo nga di ka palabi daghan paliton..igo ra nga madala nimo... if in case naa kay mga bug-at jud nga dad-on, then go get a taxi, riding a jeepney wont help either, same thing maglisod gihapon kag bitbit...hehehe!... mga kabatch nako nga mga pinoy diri sa work atong bag-o pami diri manreklamo og lakaw pero later on naanad na sila, murag wala nalang, some said may ni kay exercise..hehe sa pag anad ra na...
about jeepney drivers, unsay imong ipriority ang kaayohan sa kinabag-an og sa atong future, or ang interest lang sa pipila? mas daghan makabenifit aning BRT kay sa mga maalaut, but anyway the government has plans for them naman pod..as what i have heard sa meeting before with the consultants and ni mr. villarete, nga pwede kuno siminaron ang mga jeepney drivers and mao nalang poy himoong driver ang uban sa BRT, with really good benefits kuno...so oki ra jud  go go go BRT CEBU! IM SO EXCITED! I LOVE YOU MY CEBU!!!!
Zuburbia June 21st, 2012, 11:41 PM We'll just see nlng bai basta mao lng na akong na observe. mga tao jud ang root anang mga abog bais in cebu unemployment rate is tremendously high and poverty is rampant due to overpopulation. :ohno:
compare http://www.indexmundi.com/g/r.aspx?c=rp&v=69
singapore is not even on the list
True!
para nako ang naay class nga klase sa babay og modern og mentality are the ones who have wider view about the world and their environment and are aware of the new ways of becoming green and environmentally conscious... dili nang pinakris aquino nga pangutok! hahaha! ang mga babayng dili ra arte ang gaayo og pasosyal and only concern is iyang kaing-ingan nya taphaw diay kayog pangutok...highly cultured nga mga taw sa europe, japan, parts sa US, australia and asia are very aware and are so interested in doing things differently that could offer better solutions sa mga pressing problems that we encounter in our modern life and urbanity...

Cebu is not Dubai. You friend honestly wished for the convenience of the jeepneys provided at low low cost to feed himself and his family.
Cebu's Family income struggles to feed their family everyday. You may like to walk 1.5 kilometer to your Bus stop in Dubai for exercise. Tell that to ordinary families in Cebu who most cannot afford a refrigerator to store and save.
BRT is NOT pratical to Cebu and it is just another unsustainable debt that would affect our Philippine economic stability.

yes cebu is not dubai or any other place.. but cebu can always use a proven and efficient transport solution that has been working on smoothly in some other great and beautiful cities.. Cebu deserves only the best cause its the best! dont be soo third world minded, we could only get worse if you want to stay the same. great things starts in one step up.. if you wont do so then we can always stand in one place, or worst, step back...
is our present situation comfortable enough for you that you can dare to just stand in one place? or you are just comfortable cause your one of those rich people who have the luxury of riding their own cars, and their main concern is to widen the roads for more cars...
let us, the poor and middle class populace, enjoy some comfort, plssssss.....hehehe!

BRT will really crownd the steets if they implement dedicated bus lanes. pwede rman siguro mu implement ug bus lines not running on dedicated bus lanes but there should be designated stops. stations for bus stops. no one can enter exit a bus if she is not in a station.
talamban road is not that wide. nasamotan pajud karun nga daghan na kaau building gipangbuild along the road without clearance for future road widening. How do you expect BRT to fit in that road. go ko for BRT but the dedicated lanes must be thought of carefully
MatudNilaBaby June 22nd, 2012, 10:41 AM i think those dedicated bus lanes are only intended for very busy area like jones avenue which is also wider. within the outskirts of the city like talamban, the brt buses can join other vehicles unless they have to totally widened all the streets the same as jones avenue which is already 8 lanes.

brt is a system designed to make things better for us. i really hope nga daghan pag seminars nga buhaton nga makaapil ang tanan para matubag ilang answers sa BRT.
I can honestly say that I can answer most of your questions re the BRT coz I've attended the programs organized by the city gov't in the past. But I choose not to say anything because two or three days from now, a new user will log in and begin asking the same questions.
I believe in time, the right people will answer these questions. If that won't happen, then I guess the system itself na ang mutubag sa mga pangutana.

Since When Jeepneys follow designated stops...?
Why don't we prohibit cars from going into the city during rush hours for the conveniences of the masses?
And even better too No truck deliveries, buses and large vehicles on main roads?
No single occupancy vehicles!
Let the people go.Stop imposing new foreign socialist concept of transport "for the common good excuses"
Such suggestions as you are supporting to impose on our hot and humid/rains and no sidewalk environment.
Others say why don't we make taxicabs un-affordable for the common people.

dictator diay ang south america??? kanus-a paman na nahitabo??? enlighten me please...
dili diay ulanon ang south america? sa gikaingon ko na diris dubai perting inita nya perti ka humid labi na rong mga bulana, nadala man sa mga taw... because of the good transport system nga gi-implimintar sa ila government people move around the city with ease and comfort despite the scorching heat of the sun...kung magpadayon tas jeepney mawala ba diay ang kainit and kahumid sa pinas, nya dili ba diay ta mabasa sa uwan??? the BRT is a system that organizes the overall transport and the way people move around the city, buot pasabot apil sa plano ang pagtarong sa sidewalk, pagbutang og waiting shed to protect us from heat and rain, naay designated bus lane para diritso2x ang bus dili matraffic, feeder system padong sa station which is gamit kayo atong jeepney(pero improvised na unta), then tree-lined sidewalk para dili ta ma-initan, and hopefully ma-incorporate ang bike lanes... kung padayon tas jeep og pagkabati sa atong system of transportation, wala jud tay ma-achieve nga kaayohan og pag improve sa atong paagi sa panginabuhi....
about trucks dugay naman na na implement nga dili makasulod sa central core sa city or downtown and uptown area ang mga truck...sa uban main road outside the urban core of course allowede ang trucks, unsaon naman lang pagdeliver sa atong products from other places, madaut pod atong economiya ana...private vehicles dili pasudlon sa city center? i think its more of a dictator, actually extreme siya.. why not layout the BRT corridor first then let the people choose if they will use their cars or ride the BRT, then mabalansi na nila kung asa sila mas madali... the important thing is Mass transport is the prioroty, kinahanglan fast comfortable ang mass transport system, para pohon marealize sa mga car owners nga mas maayo nalang mosakay og BRT kaysa magdala sa ila sakyanan... its more democratic to me...hahahaha...

Jimbu June 22nd, 2012, 08:00 PM Environment office stalls permit for Cebu project
Saturday, June 23, 2012
CEBU CITY -- Capitol and Fifth Avenue Property Development Corp. will not be able to proceed with the construction of the Ciudad project yet, after the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) denied their application for an environmental compliance certificate (ECC).
In a letter dated June 20, 2012, DENR-Central Visayas Director Fernando Quililan informed Fifth Avenue that it cannot be issued an ECC because it failed to secure a tree cutting permit, which was required of the developer because of the “numerous number of trees that might be affected in the project area.”
The developer will not be able to reapply for an ECC and for a tree cutting permit because its issuance has been suspended effective April 30 this year.
Without an ECC, Fifth Avenue cannot be issued a building permit by City Hall.
“Please be informed that this office decided to deny your ECC application due to non-compliance of the said requirement, which you cannot as well secure as of now in view of a recent memorandum… for the ‘Suspension on the Processing of all Requests for Cutting Permits,’ which this office is bound to observe in compliance thereof,” Quililan said in his letter to Fifth Avenue.
The memorandum was signed by DENR Undersecretary Analiza Rebuelta-Teh last April 30

its nice to see kids being active with skateboarding but they have to stay away from properties like the capitol nga makaguba man intawon na sa mga railings sidewalks benches ug uban pa dinha nga ilang pa sidsiran. maayo buhatan na sila ug skateboarding park kay magdagsang na sila fuente osmena na maguba gyud nang atong mga historical landmarks cuz they dont care about it. what they care is the thrill and fun they have with this kind of sport.
i had arguments with this issue before where kids bring their skateboard to class unya ing non lang ko sa counselor nga that's their form of transportation. so ako gi ing nan, aw diay pakuha sila ug driving permit ana ilang skateboard kon mao man gani na imong razon. para naku its child endangerment para sa mga parents nga mo allow ani as form of transporation.

I attended one of the meetings two years ago and from what I heard, the BRT project is not just simply about putting buses on the streets.
The project is quite "complicated" actually and it has the following components included in the package aside from just simply putting buses on the streets:
1.) Acquisition of property and widening of roads where the BRT will pass;
2.) Improvement of sidewalks along the BRT route;
3.) Construction of overpasses, flyovers, ramps, tunnels, etc. in the BRT route;
3.) Upgrading of traffic light system in the BRT route;
4.) Upgrading of drainage system in the BRT route;
5.) Construction of BRT terminals/stations;
I guess this answers the concern of some regarding the width of the roads where the buses will pass.
Again, the BRT project is not just about simply putting buses on the streets. Had it been that simple then the government could have just deployed buses long ago.
When you build a subway or LRT, do you just simply put the trains on the streets? Of course not, you also build the necessary infrastructure such as tunnels, or elevated platforms.
Same thing with BRT.

ferny123 June 23rd, 2012, 07:27 AM i think those dedicated bus lanes are only intended for very busy area like jones avenue which is also wider. within the outskirts of the city like talamban, the brt buses can join other vehicles unless they have to totally widened all the streets the same as jones avenue which is already 8 lanes.
good thing kung ing.ana jud. im worried jud about places like talamban na dili wide ang road nya wala pajud easement for road widening.
I attended one of the meetings two years ago and from what I heard, the BRT project is not just simply about putting buses on the streets.
The project is quite "complicated" actually and it has the following components included in the package aside from just simply putting buses on the streets:
1.) Acquisition of property and widening of roads where the BRT will pass;
2.) Improvement of sidewalks along the BRT route;
3.) Construction of overpasses, flyovers, ramps, tunnels, etc. in the BRT route;
3.) Upgrading of traffic light system in the BRT route;
4.) Upgrading of drainage system in the BRT route;
5.) Construction of BRT terminals/stations;
Same thing with BRT.
...
again im just stating my concerns. speacially sa talamban area. labi na sa USC TC kay ddto ko ga skwela. the side of USC TC pwede siguro ma widen ang road pero the other side of TC ug sa nasipit area has alot of structures na tag 4 storeys raba. if roads will be widened there aw gub.on pa nila tong mga buildings? kay sa akong estimate lng (di sd ko expert) di ma fit ang road widening plus brt routes that will run through that stracth. pwede siguro mag himo jud sila ug laing road just for the BRT para di ma congest ang area.
brt is a system designed to make things better for us. i really hope nga daghan pag seminars nga buhaton nga makaapil ang tanan para matubag ilang answers sa BRT.
I can honestly say that I can answer most of your questions re the BRT coz I've attended the programs organized by the city gov't in the past. But I choose not to say anything because two or three days from now, a new user will log in and begin asking the same questions.
I believe in time, the right people will answer these questions. If that won't happen, then I guess the system itself na ang mutubag sa mga pangutana.
as i havve said dili ko kontra sa BRT naa lng koy mga concerns ba. you cant be go lng ng go for a very big project like that. naa sd siguro silay mga solutions to those concerns and thats what i would like to hear. nahan bya ko mu suway ug apil ang BRT programs or seminars interested kaayo ko about sa transport systems kay kung ako papilion BRT ko compared sa jeep. pero mag awto pd ko usahay nya kapoi kaau nang ma stuck sa traffic so about my concerns sa BRT sa talamban area i still think dako pa kaayu ang problem ddto. (opinion lng na nko)

THE AVIDA Towers Riala, is Avida Land’s newest development in Cebu that offers wide greens and open spaces.
Even before it was touted as the bustling Queen City of the South, Cebu has long attracted and enamored many individuals into settling into its city.
And property developers, of course, were not spared from Cebu City’s enchanting charm, with many of them setting up their respective townships and developments, to take advantage of the growing demand for quality housing in the area.
Take for instance the latest offering by Avida Corp., a subsidiary of property giant Ayala Land.
The Avida Towers Riala introduces to its buyers an “integrated living concept” wherein residents can indulge in a life of comfort and relaxation with lush, green and open spaces—smack in the middle of the hustle and bustle.
Live-work-play dynamics
The five-tower Avida Towers Riala will rise on a 21,246 square-meter area within the Cebu Park District, the premier business, lifestyle and leisure destination in Cebu. This district covers the Cebu Business Park and Cebu IT Park—each one a complete destination, comprising a dynamic whole.
Both parks, according to Avida Land, enjoy a critical mass of locators in the spheres of business, banking, finance, IT and tourism services, as well as residential and commercial developments to complete the live-work-play dynamics within the community.
RENDITION of living and dining areas of an Avida Towers Riala unit.
According to Avida, its latest project offering combines the benefits of a healthy, green environment with the conveniences and thrills of a modern, urban existence. The property is just a short walk from major commercial and business centers, as well as top schools and hospitals.
Avida Towers Riala allows its residents to “readily create the lifestyle they want and imagined—one that nurtures true well-being. The said development will also allow future residents to enjoy laid-back moments after taking on the challenges of work with its numerous amenities and facilities.”
Those who wish a more active recreation will enjoy jogging trails, swimming pools and a grand lawn. There are courtyards and private gardens where one can reflect and meditate while the lush landscape of trees and greenery can evoke serenity and feelings of wellness.
There will also be three additional podium levels that will house exclusive residential parking slots. Located on top of the podium level is the amenity deck, which houses the lap pool and kiddie pool, courtyards and private gardens.
In cases where some retail therapy is in order, residents can choose from a variety of shops and restaurants that will be located within the upper ground floor of the building.
Residential units
The first tower of Avida Towers Riala has a total of 621 residential units, with 27 residential floors. It is now offering units to would-be residents, as well as investors.
Three types of units are available in Tower 1: studio units at 23 sq m; 1-bedroom unit at 41 sq m and 2-bedroom unit at approximately 56.6 sq m, all with affordable price tags ranging from P1.8 million to P5.5 million.

Nothing is impossible in this world if there is money. If I'm not mistaken, the BRT will be financed by the World Bank?
Anyway, even if it is a 20-storey building, if it will stand in the way of an important national project, then it will have to go. It will be demolished. It's very easy and the owners can't do anything about it except to be compensated.
Just look at Sergio Osmena avenue near Fort San Pedro/Plaza Independencia where the tunnel exits. The huge warehouses were even demolished to give way to road widening to complement the tunnel.

Jimbu June 23rd, 2012, 07:02 PM BRT system to absorb "best" PUJ drivers
By Jessica Ann R. Pareja/MIT (The Freeman)
Updated June 24, 2012 12:00
Brader said that the BRT will overwhelmingly reduce traffic congestion because the absence of jeepneys that frequently stops anywhere will increase the number of vehicles that the affected roads will be able to carry.
There will be all-in-all 14 stations to be placed 450 meters apart. People will learn to walk on sidewalks, which, the project also promised to beautify and rehabilitate.
The BRT system is also environment-friendly since the buses are designed to operate on ultra-clean diesel. (FREEMAN)

Surely on Phase I, the government will just deploy buses first.
The big depreciable items first like impoted buses for fast money of course.
Remember when the subway was finished,
No one even knew who was supposed to manage and maintain it.
At some point toll revenue must maintain the subway.
So who's going to manage BRT? (Would it be Kaoshiung people??)
Why the fare has never been the main issue?
1 to 5 implimentation should be top priority for us people not BRT.
There is no comparison to the fare, efficiency and 24/7 convenience of a jeepney ride. There is no area in Cebu City that jeepney ride is not a short walking distance. We use buses for long drive to carry more passenger to a far way distination. If this buses were to dropped off 50 passengers it would take at least 2 hours excluding traffic travel time. Cebu is not that big as Curitiba - do not have our jeepney service. Nor Cebu have public housing and work zone. If we have a tree line sidewalk, people would leisurely walk and bike like from Tisa, Labangon to USC, Abellana and Magallanes even City Hall. As a kid, I remember walking with my brother and sister home from Sacred Heart School.
Who wants to be herded in a station like animals controlled by government and corporate employees?
What is so modern about that? Hitler was so efficient and expert in mass transport from the overcrowded ghettos to extermination camps?

kindofperfect82888 June 24th, 2012, 02:34 AM From Tommy O's Facebook Page:
The pilot route of the BRT will need about 1,500 station staff and personnel including 500 drivers.
Initially, there will be over 240 buses to ply the routes, each will be assigned with two drivers who will report to duty on different shifts.
Since there are only initial 500 slots available, Cebu Bus Rapid Transit lead consultant Colin Brader said that drivers will undergo screening to ensure that the BRT will have the “best drivers” from the pool of PUJ drivers in Cebu City.

The 5 items enumerated by emperorkarl should come before the aquisition of BRT buses. The initial budget of $185 million from World Bank (http://www.sunstar.com.ph/cebu/local-news/2012/06/23/cebu-bus-transit-project-pegged-185m-228326) I think would be for infrastructures outside of the BRT buses. So there's no depreciation expense from BRT buses which will be procured of course once the system is in place. Mao bitaw naa feasibility study.

Wow.. Nice work @ rest... Mao man unta na suspect nato na 2Quad but it turns out a different project... I have asked construction workers who fenced the site but they also have no idea..
Anyway, i believe this will be a single storey, perhaps another bank, i suppose. :)
According to source there will be five to six more projects to be known within CBP alone within the year up to early next year..:D
I suppose these already include the FLB Tower, Cebu Commercial Tower 2, Eton Cyberpod Cebu, another condo by Appleone, an Ayala BPO Tower and possibly a hotel.. Just my guess... :okay:
TagaCebu II June 24th, 2012, 08:03 AM Colin Brader is a very influential businessman for profit with World Bank, a foreigner who probably do not understand our culture and our uniquely Filipino jeepney transit. He will impose a socialist and colonial mentality on us while feeding on some money hungry politicians.
He should stop lying. Filipinos are known in Western World working behind Global Accounting Firm. He is lying.
He said:"There will be over 240 buses to ply the routes, each will be assigned with two drivers who will report to duty on different shifts.needs about 500" and claims to be filled by for un-employed jeepney drivers. with heavy restrictions.
THAT'S A LIE.
240 buses x2 = 480; Thats 480 not 500
THE TRUTH IS:
240 buses x50 = 12,000 passengers /bus
1,200 jeepneys or 2,400 unemployed drivers will be unemployed.
2,400 - 480 = 1,920 net unemployed drivers on Phase 1.
About 5,000 family members will be bungry.
Colin Brader says that the fare, which is to be discussed yet, will also be made affordable to passengers. With affordable fares What Western standard is affordable? Does Brader mean that Western prices for Starbuck coffee and Krespy Creme prices of a days PAY .AFFORDABLE.?
Stop thinking businesses are doing good for you.
Wake up people, the fare to go to work or school is the cheapest today.
Why are you paying water being bottled today for the price of soda?
Why are you paying for TV w/c broadcasters got paid for their ads?
Why should should we pay more for the kind service of our SUKI jeepney driver?
Does BRT benefit more private car owners easy traffic like Bader and our politicians?

my guess would either be:
1. vacant lot currently being used as parking area in front of metro gaisano (beside the proposed FLB building)
2. vacant lot between Ayala PUV Terminal and Cebu Commercial tower.
these areas have easy access to Ayala Mall, and the streets BRT will pass through: Escario (Bulacao-Ayala route) and Gov Cuenco (Talamban-Ayala road)

Just this statement i was totally confused. He is accusing Mr. Brader of being a socialist and instilling colonial mentality on us regarding the BRT because he is trying to be patriotic of our unique and genuine filipino jeepneys but how come he wants European trams over this South American transport? isn't that promoting colonial mentality here as well and worst being a racist of some sort?

If we pay these jeepneys as much as BRT or LRT Manila like 30 PHP, private enterprises competition will offer better rides. In New Jersey Rapid Transit are losing ridership and jitneys are prospering. Everytime, I ride the jitneys it reminds me the catastrophic direction our Cebu pro BRT politicians are promoting. Google on New Jersey jitneys and polticians are trying to indiscriminately find ways to stop peoples need for better transportation. It use to take me 3 hours to visit a friend by NJ Bus Rapid Transit with 1 hour only w/ jitneys. The profiles of this jitneys are so efficient.
I think, Cebu City today needs to enfiorce designated stops without the need of special designated bus lanes.
New Jersey buses are going down. Bus drivers and unions are not happy today.
We have to redesign the old Cebu jeepneys which delay payments, loading and unloading.
New Jersey jitneys are a pleasure to ride. Fast, more frequent and cheap.
Limousine suspension, air-con and Salsa music. Paying fares are so much easier.

Malls have been sprouting like mushrooms here and in Cebu province.
SM opened its second mall in the province in Consolacion town in northern Cebu on
June 1 while construction of SM Seaside City at the South Road Properties is ongoing.
J Mall opened in Mandaue City last November.

Ayala Center Cebu (ACC) is undergoing a P2-billion expansion, which will be completed
in 2013. The Gaisano group has joined the bandwagon with its simultaneous construction
of at least four malls in the province.
http://opinion.inquirer.net/files/2012/06/Malls_SM-City-Northwing.jpg
34 malls on island
Is there enough market for these malls, especially that there are at least 34 existing malls
spread here and the province? Cebu City alone has 16 malls. These are Banilad Town
Center, Robinson’s Place Cebu, Robinson’s Cybergate, JY Square Mall, Elizabeth Mall,
SM City Cebu, Ayala Center Cebu, Raintree Mall, Coco Mall, Colonade Mall, Gaisano Main,
Gaisano Capital-South (which was gutted by fire in December last year), Gaisano Capital
Tisa, Gaisano Grand Talamban, Gaisano Country Mall and Gaisano Metro Colon.

In Mandaue, there are six—Parkmall, Bridges Town Square, North Atrium, J Mall, Gaisano
Pacific Mall and Gaisano Grand Mall. The three malls in Lapu-Lapu City are Mactan Marina Mall,
Gaisano Mactan Island Mall and the Gaisano Grand Mall.
Other malls are located in Talisay City (Gaisano Grand Fiesta Mall), Minglanilla town
(Gaisano Grand Minglanilla), Consolacion (Fooda Mall), Carcar City (Gaisano Grand Carcar),
Toledo City (Gaisano Grand Toledo and Metro Plaza Toledo), Balamban town (Gaisano Balamban),
Bogo City (Gaisano) and Danao City (Gaisano Capital). Still, a Cebuano economist predicted
that in the next five years, more malls would be constructed on Cebu island, which stretches
225 km from north to south and had a total population of 4.17 million in 2010.

Life in what Metro Cebu residents call “the province” isn’t as removed from technology as it used to be. There’s “cable” TV now although it isn’t exactly cable. They’re satellite dishes, like this roadside display in Dumanjug. For a few hundred pesos a month, Cebuanos in any corner (or islet) in Cebu can get cable channels in prepaid plans.
cyberCEBU June 25th, 2012, 06:36 AM CIPC to recruit workers in Visayas, Mindanao
THE Cebu Investment and Promotion Center (CIPC) will recruit people from Visayas and Mindanao to work in Cebu to address the manpower requirement of the knowledge process outsourcing (KPO) and business process outsourcing (BPO) industries here.
CIPC managing director Joel Mari Yu said he is planning to bring KPO and BPO companies to various key cities in the Visayas and Mindanao to promote Cebu as an employment destination.
Fast growth
“It is growing so fast that if there are 20,000 available talents for this industry, they will all be absorbed in just a matter of weeks,” he said. The KPO-BPO industry in Cebu currently employs 70,000 to 75,000.
Infra in place
Yu targets to grow Cebu’s KPO and BPO workforce to 100,000 in two years. “We see no problem with infrastructure because it’s already in place,” he said.
According to Yu, the recruitment effort will help strengthen Cebu’s footing as one of the emerged BPO destinations in the world.

Recovering Japanese market to lift Phl tourism, industries
The Freeman
25 June 2012
CEBU, Philippines – The recovering interest of the Japanese market to consider Cebu
as a preferred vacation destination, as indicated by the growing number of arrivals
and its strong interest to acquire condominium units could boost not only tourism
sector, but other industries here.
Known for its love in wellness, and leisure, the Japanese market rebound is seen to
further boost the wellness, healthcare, entertainment, retail and even real estate
sectors in the province, said Cebu Health and Wellness Council (CHWC) trustee
Patria Aurora “Dawnie” Roa.

Hotel owner's son, friend accused of molesting Japanese girls
A young Japanese woman arrived in Lapu-Lapu City last June 21 to visit her Japanese friend and have some fun in the sun.
But her vacation turned into a nightmare for her and her friend after they were raped by two Korean nationals in a motel in Lapu-Lapu City last Saturday morning.
The two Koreans were arrested by operatives of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group in Central Visayas (CIDG-7) a day after the rape occurred.
One of the suspects is supposedly the son of a hotel owner based in Lapu-Lapu City.

Central Visayas PPP projects await approval
CEBU CITY -- Two major airport projects proposed for the Central Visayas region that will be implemented through the public-private partnership (PPP) scheme are still awaiting government approval, a regional official said.
Efren B. Carreon, assistant regional director of the National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA), said the proposed P5.8-billion Mactan-Cebu International Airport passenger terminal still needs the endorsement of the Lapu-Lapu City Council, while the long delayed P8-billion New Bohol (Panglao) Airport Development Project is currently up for review.

7-Eleven operator to spend P1.5 billion
LISTED RETAILER Philippine Seven Corp., which operates the 7-Eleven chain, is looking to spend over P1 billion this year to expand and refurbish its network of convenience stores, a company official said.
“For the whole year, the company’s entire capex will be around P1.5 billion, mostly from internal funds, mostly for our new stores. We aim to end the year with 870 stores, compared to 690 last year,” Lawrence M. De Leon, Philippine Seven finance division manager, told BusinessWorld in a telephone interview.
Most of the company’s new stores will be built in Luzon, given the robust growth of existing 7-Eleven stores here.
“We experienced favorable yields in these areas, particularly in NCR (National Capital Region) and some of the provinces. Our stores here have performed within our expectations,” Mr. De Leon said.

cars here in cebu are generally much more expensive than cars in NCR siguro 20k-50k difference basin gani lapas pa ug 50k ang difference, beware of the na-ondoy car lng because they are cheap but som were submereged in water during typhoon ondoy.

Valuation of cars depends largely on the number of kilometers it made and the wear and tear... Second hand cars in NCR are understandably cheaper because it has more thousand of kilometers used since it usually travels within Luzon Island compared to Cebu cars which travels only within the Cebu province..
Dire sa Cebu.. you can even buy cars na although 3 years na sya but still 15,000 kms pa lang iyang nagamit.. My car who is 2 years old, wala pa gani kaabot 15,000.. So, resale value can still be higher... ^^

Which Is a better choice car- highway or city driven?
Odometer reading samples:
1,000 hours @15 km/h city = 15,000 km
1,000 hours @100 km/h highway =100,000 km
Another factor: Cebu has coastal roads thereby high salt exposure !!
Salt corrosion is harder to detect or mitigate than rain water flooding
even on aluminum parts.
Wind Shear June 26th, 2012, 05:19 PM Guys, I like to share regarding bus vs. jeepney or whatever it is. And hopefully close the said case.
Funny enough, for the Digos City - Bansalan, Davao del Sur (distance is 18 kilometers) route, the fare of non-aircon bus is cheaper than a jeepney by five pesos. And the fare of aircon bus is the same as the jeepney and van-for-hire.
Thus during peak hours, passengers prefer standing in the bus rather than sitting in the jeep.
And yes, I am not kidding.

What happen to SSC's support to Preservation and Heritage?
Do post-war restoration of trams only apply to Manila?
People who are not from Cebu will tell you that it is too expensive.
Yet, we build highrises that 99% Cebuanos cannot even afford to live in.
Is this being negative? We refuse to understand
that Cebuanos deserve what Manila and its region are continously developing
today - they tell us just take a bus..

Free enterprise not government or corporate control is the way to go.
Absolutely competition always work.
BRT people will not even tell you how much is the fare?
BRT people always knows we cannot refuse the imposed monoply fare.
The corporate scam is based on this fact:
Same ice cream seems to taste better in SM or Ayala Terrace!
Same movie seems more enjoyable in cineplex than even if have LED at home.
The big difference is your pocket is lighter or monthly bank statement is
as thick as the Bible you won't even care to read.
We're all scared like hell.
leylander June 26th, 2012, 06:42 PM ohmygod, before we all know it, we'll be talking about the theory of evolution and whether or not the egg actually came first. hehe.
With all due respect, TagaCebuII, we do get your point. and we thank you for your concern. But I guess Cebuanos are mature enough to not want to ask for cake when they know there is not enough to serve. I know you are pro-train. Trains are awesome. But they are expensive. And not too environment-friendly. Just because Manila has it doesn't mean we should have it, too.
You do care about Cebu's heritage preservation. But are you aware that one of the earliest plans was to have the LRT pass directly above Fuente Osmena?
Do not worry about the 'take the bus' thing. When the BRT is in place, people will cease to call it BUS. People will call it BRT or TransCebu.

today, Cebuanos insist that we'll just take the bus which is just cheaper to build and spend the excess money (for Mindanao) that is supposed to be built for a train .

Nope. The point is, scalability.
