From Sunstar Website DOT bares plan to attract Russians to RP (http://www.sunstar.com.ph/static/ceb/2006/04/07/bus/dot.bares.plan.to.attract.russians.to.rp.html) THE country’s tourism industry expects Russia as a new market that will contribute to the three million target of foreign guests this year while Korea remains on top, said Tourism Secretary Joseph “Ace” Durano. “Mainland China is fast catching up and Japan will always be an important market. Our new markets will be Russia and hopefully, before end of the year, India,” Durano said in an interview during the opening of the first Tourism Jobs Fair 2006 at the Waterfront Cebu City Hotel and Casino last Wednesday. He revealed that Russians are interested in the country. “They are just so hot on the Philippines. I was in Moscow and talked to the big travel wholesaler there and it sounded like they were selling the Philippines to me. They were just so excited about the Philippines,” he said. He said the Department of Tourism (DOT) is helping them by “linking” travel agencies in Russia with the “supply chain.” Direct flights “For example, there are no direct flights now (to Russia). We ask them how can we accommodate. What can we do to make it easier? They said it would be good if Asian Spirit, Sea Air, Philippine Airlines and Cebu Pacific will have a GSA (general service agent) in Russia because it will lower their costs,” he said. He said the DOT is also helping “rationalize” visa requirements for Russians visiting the country. Japanese tourists, also called “the Europeans of Asia,” will remain as an important market to the country because they tend to spend “a little bit more” per day, he said. He added that the country recorded 2.613 million foreign tourist arrivals last year, an “uncharted territory” for the 20-year existence of DOT. Right conditions He attributed the growth of tourism to the principle of “doing the right things in the right market under the right conditions.” The Philippines is the most cost-efficient tourism promoter in Asia, he said. “We only spend $2 for every tourist we generate while other countries spend between $10 to $12. Our natural attraction is a draw. We just have to do a little bit more (of promotion), then it’s easier to attract them,” he said. To meet its three-million target of foreign tourists with the $2 per tourist budget, Durano said the DOT needs to spend $6 million or around P300 million. “We’re so grateful to the President (Arroyo) because she included that increase in the executive budget and it was approved by both the House of Representatives and the Senate,” he said. April 7th, 2006, 07:41 AM i'm just assuming they'll put up a robinson's mall or sumthing once Gokongwei acquires the lot. it could be a business center, basta commercial area. according to the article, the lot is beside or in between White Gold Club and Cebu International Port. it has to be somewhere before SM City complex. At last, development on that part of the city. :applause: Diba, there are a lot of squatters there? I'd really like to see that site develop because it's located in one of the prime districts of the city. GO CEBU! :) sugbuanon April 7th, 2006, 07:57 AM ^^ they'll be cleaned up before the asean summit.. im sure tommy has the political will to remove those squatters from the area.. the problem now is on the mandaue side.. sugbuanon April 7th, 2006, 08:01 AM http://img136.imageshack.us/img136/8282/img05302ci.jpg (http://imageshack.us) http://img136.imageshack.us/img136/56/7644379987fd10d026o0dj.jpg (http://imageshack.us) http://img93.imageshack.us/img93/7958/764438006f8fed06d1o3ic.jpg (http://imageshack.us) pag-ibig tower LordCarnal April 7th, 2006, 09:57 AM Tom eyes "super block" at North Recla Project Mayor Tomas Osmeña is planning to create a "super block" out of three independent blocks of land at the North Reclamation Project. The city government also intends to sell its 4.6-hectare property at the North Reclamation Area to business tycoon John Gokongwei who, Osmeña said, has expressed interest in converting the property into a commercial area. Osmeña said proceed from the sale of this property, which is located beside the White Gold Club, would be utilized either as a standby fund or for payment of the city's loan for the South Reclamation Project. While there is direct interest from Gokongwei, Osmeña said they would have to follow legal procedures such as the conduct of a bidding. However, he is reportedly anticipating two biddings for the property considering that only Gokongwei is interested to purchase. If there will be a failure of bidding in the first try, the second may already result to a negotiated purchase of approximately P580 million. Full article (http://www.philstar.com/philstar/FREEMAN200604071805.htm) The "Super Block" is located across SM City (the lot which is currently being utilized as a Nursery for trees). I wonder what would be built there but I guess condominiums and hotels would be a fitting choice. It wouldn't be prudent enough to build another mall just across an existing one, which by the way is currently undergoing expansion. :) The lot that was offered to the Gokongweis is just beside White Gold Club. LordCarnal April 7th, 2006, 10:00 AM ^^ Ahah, now I understand... The "Super Block" is actually a conglomeration of three separate blocks. So meaning, the existing roads that are currently traversing the separate blocks would be permanently closed since this would be fused with the other three to create a one big block. I wonder what the city is planning for this one big block. LordCarnal April 7th, 2006, 10:05 AM Bai I've noticed that Midtown Hotel is currently undergoing renovation in its interiors including rooms. I always hear noise in the building everytime I pass there. Full article (http://www.philstar.com/philstar/Freeman200604072001.htm) This is what the defunct Uniwide Sales Building would become in the very near future. :) LordCarnal April 7th, 2006, 10:13 AM PB members support move to nurture Cebu film industry The Freeman 04/07/2006 The provincial board is throwing its full support behind Sugbu Film Philippines, Inc.'s move to nurture the Cebuano film industry. PB member Juan Bolo said it is only necessary that the entire Visayan-speaking community back this endeavor because of the potential it offers especially that Cebu has a considerable number of talents. Sugbu Film's main objective is to raise the standard of the local film industry. "The growth and development of our Cebu film industry would not only bring honor and prestige to the Cebuanos and the entire Visayan-speaking community but would likewise help in the economic upliftment of the country," Bolo said in a resolution. PB member Agnes Magpale shared the same observation citing the need for the Cebuanos to unite and develop their talents. - Jose P. Sollano Sinjin P. At least they're keeping up with the competition especially that Rajah Park nearby has spruced up. I even thought that they would close down. They should also anticipate the opening of the Fuenter Towers complex. Indeed, the Fuente Osmeña area has lived up to its name as the "heart of Cebu City." Sinjin P. I'm confused why they included the following in the list of malls: >Rivergate (the one beside USC-NC) >Q.C. Pavilion (along Gorordo Avenue) LordCarnal April 7th, 2006, 01:40 PM The Metropolitan Cebu Development Council The Metropolitan Cebu Development Council was created by the RDC through Resolution No.117 (1997) and was patterned after the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority. It is mandated to formulate development plans, prepare programs and projects, and coordinate/monitor the implementation of programs and projects that address problems and concerns affecting Metro Cebu. The MCDC is composed of the Provincial Governor of Cebu; the Mayors of the Cities of Cebu, Mandaue, Lapulapu and Talisay; and the Mayors of the Municipalities of Compostela, Liloan, Consolacion, Cordova, Minglanilla and Naga. The Governor of Cebu acts as Interim Chairman of the Council. Last August 2005, development planners in Central Visayas expanded the definition of Metro Cebu to include the towns of San Fernando and Carcar in the south and Danao City in the north. MCDC does not have legal and institutional powers and resources like the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA). The Province of Cebu has proposed a bill to create a permanent Metropolitan Cebu Development Authority (MCDA). This bill is still pending in both the Congress and Senate. chixbebe April 7th, 2006, 01:48 PM --By Conrado M. Diaz Jr. The Philippine Star 04/07/2006 http://www.philstar.com/philstar/NEWS200604070711.htm The Port of Cebu, one of the major customs districts in the country, is aiming to surpass its record collection growth in 2005 with a targeted 40-percent hike this year to P5.32 billion, as authorities put in place more efficient revenue collection measures to absorb the anticipated upsurge in imports. Last year, the Cebu port posted its biggest revenue increase on record at 38 percent, a significant improvement from the average 10-percent annual growth in the past years, with a new district collector at the helm. Since assuming office last year, Cebu customs district collector Lourdes Mangaoang has initiated various reforms that contributed to the port’s record accomplishments. These include the newly-constructed Cebu Customs building serving as a one-stop shop for government agencies doing business with the Bureau of Customs – a first of its kind in the Philippines, and the streamlining of document processing to speed up transactions. Cebu’s business community has particularly lauded the port authorities’ drive in reducing red tape, noting that this has saved them time, money and effort. According to Michael Basubas, president of the Cebu Furniture Industries Foundation, the Port of Cebu increased by 31.3 percent its assigned collection target for 2005 due to the significant improvements in performance and services, especially in terms of trade facilitation and related operations. Robert Go, president of the Cebu Chamber of Commerce and Industry and Carlos Go, vice president for the Visayas of the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry, said they are supportive of Mangaoang’s actions, especially on her "quick and fast action on the various pressing concerns of Cebu’s export sector which needed much support." Timex president and CEO Robert Oliver, who is also president of the Mactan Export Processing Zone Chamber of Exporters and Manufacturers, added that their organization "has taken notice of her many efforts to dismantle the barriers and bureaucracies that have burdened us for so long." Lawmakers, local government officials, customs employees and support personnel have likewise credited the improved performance of the Cebu port to the transparent, efficient and client-friendly approach laid out by Mangaoang, on top of her firm resolve to curb smuggling, particularly motor vehicles, in the region. c0kelitr0 April 7th, 2006, 01:51 PM marvz, enjoy ko kaayo sa imong flickr account :D great photos! sugbuanon April 7th, 2006, 02:00 PM salamat fhoy.. wala man gud lingaw.. :D sayang lang dili nako maka upload ug mga bago na pics ky full na ako account.. slerz April 7th, 2006, 06:42 PM mga bai, sa kadugay na nako ug post-post dire, just realized that i also have first-hand information that i can share to you... my company, a life insurance company in the philippines, which is kinda related to the ayalas though technically it's not, is planning to put up a new building inside cebu business park. im sure we are all familiar with metro parking near the ayala food and entertainment center, right? that's the lot our company owns and that's where our new building will rise.. we're so excited na about it... if the groundbreaking won't happen at the end of 2006, im pretty sure that it will be early 2007.... Cebu is truly complete with every tourist needs. sugbuanon April 7th, 2006, 07:11 PM Summit to spur Cebu’s growth Cebu's hosting of the 12th Association of Southeast Asian Nations (Asean) Summit will have far-reaching effects on its local industries, with the construction of the Cebu International Convention Center (CICC) alone seen to spur development in the tourism and professional service industries, according to a foreign affairs official. Citing the experience of Kuala Lumpur, the Malaysian city that hosted the 11th Asean Summit in December 2005, Luis Cruz, director general, Asean-Philippines of the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA), said Cebu can expect to draw international conventions and exhibitions when the CICC is completed. “The City Government of Kuala Lumpur also put up a convention center for the (11th Asean) summit. Even before it was completed, the Kuala Lumpur International Convention Center was already booked for two years in advance,” said Cruz. The DFA official was in Cebu yesterday for the groundbreaking ceremony of the CICC at the North Reclamation Area in Mandaue City. He was representing Foreign Affairs Secretary Alberto Romulo. The Capitol is rushing to complete the convention center in time for Cebu’s hosting of the 12th Asean Summit this December. Catalyst Cruz told Sun.Star that Cebu could easily attract international conventions because it has an international airport and air links to travel hubs like Hong Kong, Singapore, Japan and Malaysia. “For foreign conferences and exhibitions, organizers look at the feasibility of getting into the place,” he said, adding that Cebu’s resorts and malls add to its appeal. Cruz explained that the CICC also serves as a catalyst for the development of Cebu’s tourism and professional service industries because hotels, airlines, restaurants, translators, manpower service firms, car rental firms, caterers and souvenir makers-”anything that caters to delegates”-will benefit from the staging of exhibitions and conventions in Cebu. For this December, the foreign affairs official said the Asean Summit will give local industries like the furniture and jewelry industries the opportunity to showcase their capabilities either to the foreign delegates or their “accompanying delegates,” the delegates’ spouses and children. Based on the experience of Kuala Lumpur last December, Cebu could receive as many as 2,500 foreign delegates, including the media, businessmen and the delegates’ families, Cruz said. http://img239.imageshack.us/img239/231/article170061april84dg.jpg (http://imageshack.us) Cooperation Caesar Atienza, former Asean Secretariat official in Jakarta, said the spouses could be taken on a separate tour, which could showcase Cebu’s programs like its gender sensitivity programs and Cebu’s experience in microfinance. This could result in future bilateral or regional cooperation initiatives among Asean members. Cruz said many locals do not realize that there are many good things that Cebu can do better than other countries. For instance, he said, Malaysia’s furniture industry, although well developed, still looks to the Philippines in the area of design. Cebu is the furniture export capital of the country. This December’s event is a very big production for Cebu because it will feature prime ministers and presidents of various countries. Cruz explained that what will happen is actually a series of summits. Aside from the meetings among the 10 members of the Asean, there will also be meetings with Asean’s six dialogue partners, which are China, South Korea and Japan, also called Asean + 3; and India, Australia and New Zealand. Cebu papers Asean is composed of Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Brunei, Vietnam, Lao PDR, Myanmar and Cambodia. The foreign delegates are expected to be in Cebu for about two weeks, with the preparatory senior officials’ meeting expected to be held in the first week, and the staging of the 12th Asean Summit and the 2nd East Asia Summit to follow. Three declarations are expected to be made, a Cebu declaration on the framework of the Asean Charter, a declaration on cooperation in combating HIV/AIDS, and a declaration on combating terrorism. The name of the host city or province is traditionally included in the name of any declarations made during summits held in that city or province, another added benefit for Cebu, which could look at this as a promotional tool for the province. sugbuanon April 7th, 2006, 07:13 PM Design meant to show flexibility, Asian unity The architectural design of the Cebu International Convention Center (CICC) took its inspiration from the idea of a “fragile spaceship earth” that links nations together. Its planners and builders introduced flexibility as a major feature of the structure, given its functions and use during and after the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (Asean) summit. The CICC concept prepared by Guanzon Architecture and Design explained that a careful assessment of the summit program resulted in a choice of two solid rectangular blocks connected by a luminous lobby, as their design for the CICC. Its pure geometrical form is meant to suggest the strength of Asian nations. “The purity of geometry of the two major rectangular blocks represents the pristine and clear intentions expected of the delegates and future users,” its concept paper stated. “The idea of a spaceship as link is carried further to include a parabolic steel arc, making the lobby roof appear to be floating, suspended by the steel arc. The arc also reminds us of a ring as a symbol of unity,” it added. One block of the CICC is intended for the exclusive use of the main functions and the other block is for support facilities and exhibits. 3-story structure Architect Manuel Guanzon yesterday told Sun.Star Cebu the CICC will occupy only around 7,000 square meters of the entire 3.8-hectare Mandaue City-owned lot at the reclamation area. However, the structure itself will have a total floor area of 20,000 square meters because it will be a three-story facility. He said this leaves CICC with more than three hectares of parking area, parks and open space. Guanzon formally presented to local and national officials the miniature model of the CICC during yesterday’s groundbreaking ceremony. Engineer Apollo Enriquez, a Capitol consultant, said the lower ground floor contains the cafeteria, specialty shops, mechanical and electrical space area and VIP parking. October The lobby, media center, international exhibition hall and plenary hall will be on the upper ground floor, while the leaders’ lounge, secretariat room, conference rooms, prayer rooms and other rooms will occupy the second floor. Guanzon is hopeful that the structure will be completed by October, or a month ahead of its original target date, because its construction is now two weeks ahead of schedule. He said the contractor is now working on the structure’s foundation and has managed to drive in 600 of the 800 concrete piles. Enriquez said the foundation is now 72 percent complete and by next week, it should be around 95 percent to 100 percent complete. Guanzon said that based on their schedule, they were only supposed to be putting in around 400 concrete piles by this time but as it turned out, they are working ahead of the schedule. “Our only prayer is that we will not have typhoons because these are beyond our control,” said Guanzon. He said construction materials, which are available in the country, will be shipped to Cebu and typhoons could delay shipments. Guanzon said they are working within the P250-million budget of the Capitol but he expects its actual cost to increase or decrease by 10 percent to 15 percent, due to changes in the prices of construction materials. sugbuanon April 7th, 2006, 07:15 PM Room shortage in Cebu will remain a dilemma The “room situation” in Cebu will continue to be tight, but the strong demand will encourage expansion of the industry, said Tourism Secretary Joseph “Ace” Durano in an interview this week. “Creating the demand is a lot easier than catching up with the supply because naturally, it takes two years from groundbreaking to opening (a hotel). So it will continue to be tight,” he said. But the support of the private sector is a good sign of the supply chain that is “stretching along with the demand”. “I don’t want to preempt a lot of new investments. But there will be a lot of new announcements regarding new investments in the hotel and accommodation industry,” he said. He said the ongoing negotiation between the Philippine National Bank, which now owns Coral Reef, and a foreign investor for a 1,000-room integrated resort, is a development to watch out for. “The private sector is doing its share to stretch its existing capacity. For example, in a few months time, Plantation Bay was able to open 20 new rooms. I feel that the supply chain is more flexible than we imagine,” he said. The tourism industry injected over P150 billion into the country’s economy last year, he said, adding that the sector is expected to earn P200 billion to P250 billion this year. “It’s not the collection of the government but it’s tourists’ money spent on shopping, food and beverage and other services like spas,” he said. He added that direct employment in the industry last year reached 887,000 and 2.2 million including indirect employment. “That’s why tourism is the most efficient generator of employment because for every foreign tourist, one job is created. If arrivals increase by 14 percent this year, although we hope for more, it will also increase employment in the country,” he said. He added the Department of Tourism (DOT) continues to promote destinations that are “underuti-lized,” like Davao. “Davao has an airport like Cebu and they have rooms but are underutilized. So we’re pushing Davao. In Cebu, it’s really just a matter of sustaining the demand and helping the private sector facilitate (and hasten the entry of) new investments,” he said. While the DOT central office will concentrate on international promotions, Durano said its regional offices are tasked to work with local government units for domestic promotions. Some P48 million for domestic promotion given by the Congress have already allocated to the regional offices to promote tourism areas in their areas, he said. rustyboi April 7th, 2006, 07:15 PM marvz, enjoy ko kaayo sa imong flickr account :D great photos! i agree. one of the best maniniyot in SSC Cebu :applause: keep 'em coming bai! sugbuanon April 7th, 2006, 07:18 PM tenk u! tenk u! ang babait ninyo.. :D oi resty ikaw nasad puli nako dire ky gnina pa ko buntag ngari sa computer.. ahak ma cancer man sad ako mata ani.. hehe rustyboi April 7th, 2006, 07:25 PM Room shortage in Cebu will remain a dilemma “I don’t want to preempt a lot of new investments. Navarro CEBU Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia yesterday called the future Cebu International Convention Center (CICC) as the province's symbol of unity, having brought together a divided provincial government. At the groundbreaking ceremony of the CICC at the Mandaue City Reclamation Area yesterday, Garcia said when the idea of the building was still being hatched years ago, legislators were divided on its importance. But with Cebu's hosting of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Summit in December, the governor said the idea was quickly agreed upon, then finally realized. And with the CICC located in Mandaue, Mayor Thadeo Ouano said the city would finally be "ready for the world." Yesterday's ceremony marked the official start of the CICC's construction, and was attended by provincial and city officials, as well as an official from Malacañang. The CICC, a joint project of the Cebu provincial government and Mandaue, will host the ASEAN Summit after it is completed. Garcia said the project was a dream that died, but was revived after President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo chose Cebu to host the summit, which will bring together the heads of state of 18 countries. The project was first proposed during the time of former governor Pablo Garcia, Gwendolyn's father. Originally, it was planned as a multi-purpose "Megadome." Garcia said the idea first "ran into quite inhospitable and difficult realities," as members of the opposition in the provincial board as well as divisions among the province's officials kept the idea from becoming a reality. "We reached a stalemate. And for years, nothing was heard except the question that refused to die: Should it be built? Will it ever be built? How?" Things changed, however, when Arroyo chose Cebu as the venue for the ASEAN Summit. "Cebu responded to this supreme compliment by seizing the opportunity of a century, and destiny cleared the way for the dream that has evolved into the Cebu International Convention Center," Garcia said. _ _ ____ _ __ __ CEBU IS No. 1 COZ CEBU IS ONE :okay: Matteo April 8th, 2006, 01:54 AM i agree. one of the best maniniyot in SSC Cebu :applause: keep 'em coming bai! doesnt iyot means sex in bisaya? :dunno: edifice_complex3 April 8th, 2006, 03:57 AM GROUNDBREAKING IN MANDAUE Convention center is 'symbol of unity'-Garcia Published: 8 April 2006 by Kathy I. Just look at this: Chamber bares Cebu Master Plan 2020; province’s P2.1-B budget OKd CEBU CITY — The Cebu Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCCI) has cited the need to implement projects that would make Cebu Province more attractive to tourists. The Cebu Master Plan 2020, prepared by CCCI’s Cebu Tourism Core Group, identified major infrastructure projects that needed to be implemented in the coastline areas, CCCI president Robert Go said. The plan aims to turn Cebu into an the information hub, maritime center, and tourism capital of the country, he said. To realize this goal, he said, there is a need to refurbish historical landmarks and rehabilitate infrastructure facilities to attract foreign investments and tourists. The proposed projects would improve the Metro Cebu corridor, which covers the coastline from Mandaue Reclamation to the Kawit Island in South Road Properties (former South Reclamation Project) and the Mactan Boardwalk, Go said. In a related development, a South Korean investor plans to build a 700-room resort in Mactan, which was expected to help alleviate the shortage of resort rooms, a regional tourism official said. Patria Aurora Roa, Department of Tourism regional director, said the facility would consist of six towers, with 250 rooms for outright hotel operations, and the rest would be on a condotel operation. The Korean investor, she said, plans to start the project in 2006 and has targeted 2007 for its completion and the start of the resort’s operations. Roa said the plans for the project are already finished, and the investors are now completing the documentary requirements such as the building and electrical permits. She said the Korean bought the area, estimated at between seven to eight hectares, from the heirs of Eddie Woolbright. However, Roa said the projected room capacity of the resort project would not be enough to meet the growing demand. She noted that it would not be good for Cebu’s tourism industry to always turn away prospective guests because of lack of rooms. Meanwhile, the Cebu provincial board approved the R2.1-billion 2006 budget of the province prepared by the office of Cebu Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia. The amount is R310 million more than this year’s R1.7-billion budget. The 2006 budget includes 351 percent increase for social welfare and 131 percent for health. "This budget espouses the judicious application of resources, bearing in mind my principle of governance that a budget must be - beyond the figures - an approximation of the people’s hopes and aspirations," Garcia’s budget message stated. Garcia raised allocation for the legislative branch by 132 percent, general services by 151 percent, and engineering by 126 percent. A drastic increase is seen in the item "subsidy for LGUs," which is now R75 million from the estimated R32.9 million in the current year. Cebu vessel catches fire; no one hurt First posted 07:28am (Mla time) April 10, 2006 By Jolene R. Bulambot Inquirer CEBU CITY -- Fire broke out at the rooftop of a Cebu-based passenger-cargo vessel early Sunday morning while on its way to Ormoc City, Leyte. No one was hurt among the 801 passengers including 11 infants after the crew of MV Heaven Star of Roble Shipping Lines managed to put out the fire. They made it to their destination at about 2:45 a.m. when the vessel docked at Ormoc port, said Senior Coast Guard officer Lemuel Alqueza, assistant district commander of Philippine Coast Guard in Ormoc. He said MV Heaven Star was also allowed to return to Cebu but without any passenger so the vessel could be repaired here. The Inquirer tried but failed to get comments from officials of Roble Shipping Lines. An initial report showed that the fire broke out at about 1:18 a.m., or about three hours after the vessel left Cebu port, while MV Heaven Star was about nine nautical miles off Mirada, Leyte. Alqueza said the fire was caused by overheating of the smoke stack at the sundeck and spread to the economy accommodation rooftop, which was made of fiberglass. "The fire broke out at the back portion of the vessel. The initial report we got was [that] everything was placed under control several minutes after the fire broke out. The crew was quick to put out the fire and advised the passengers not to panic," he said. Alqueza said the Coast Guard district office in Cebu would conduct an investigation after Rodulfo Saavedra, MV Heaven Star skipper, told them Sunday that they would file the marine protest here. "The Special Board of Marine Inquiry is there and the vessel's captain said they would file the marine protest in Cebu so we would let our district in Cebu conduct the investigation," he said. Lieutenant Commander Erwin Balagas, chief of staff of the Philippine Coast Guard Eastern-Central Visayas district, said they would conduct a preliminary investigation of the incident. Cebu City Mayor Tomas Osmeña had designated CIPC as the marketing arm for the South Road Properties (SRP). "It is a race among four or five companies as to which one will start first (with constructing their facilities)," Yu said. One of these is a Taiwanese group, which had earlier indicated to lease 10 hectares, he said. According to Yu, prospective investors are just waiting for some infrastructure work to be completed before they start constructing their buildings. He noted that the city is now in the process of finalizing power deals and setting up road network at the SRP. "The power is about 90 percent resolved," Yu added. The Cebu City government is negotiating with the Visayan Electric Company (Veco) for the latter to finance the setting up of distribution lines, transformers and electric power posts at the SRP, Yu said. While Veco has started putting up the poles, the power firm could not complete it until the road project is completed, he added. The city government has yet to implement the road network project since it still has to pass through government procedures, Yu said. Aside from this, he said the city has to provide good quality filling materials for a portion at SRP, which is flooded every time there's a heavy downpour. The delay in doing the filling is due to the efforts of the city government to look for free or almost free filling materials, he said. But we choose and want to do it here (in Cebu) and it should mean a boost for Cebu,” Matthew Lubetich, chief operating officer of Bigfoot Entertainment said in a press interview. Bigfoot Entertainment is the parent firm of Bigfoot Productions, Bigfoot Production Services, International Academy of Film and Television (IAFT), Bigfoot Partners and Bigfoot Sound-works. He said they invite foreign film companies and industry players to come to Cebu. “Those that we invite here go back to their countries and talk about their Cebu experience,” he said. IAFT is a film school that offers courses such as animation, cinematography, directing, sound design and hands-on training with Hollywood professionals as mentors. “We want Cebu to be like Phuket of Thailand, but it’s not only going to be a leisure destination. We bring multiple job opportunities here that include food services and transportation,” he said. One of a kind Bigfoot Entertainment has an 8,200-square-meter facility in Mactan, Cebu that houses the latest technology and equipment for film production and a staff of 120, he said. He noted that its 370-square-meter soundstage facility is the best in the country and “not even Bangkok or Singapore has the same kind,” he said. “We are here to raise Cebuano’s skills. Filmmaking is a specialty craft. But the workforce potential in Cebu is incredible. We have lots of hope here and we are keen on bringing Cebu to the world,” he said. Job opportunities in the film school are not limited to film production but extend to the work of make- up and hair artists, set designers, and other artistic and technical skills, he explained. Investments John Joseph Mercado, chief executive officer of Bigfoot Global Solutions Inc., said Cebu’s human resource, telecommunications infrastructure and accessibility made the company choose Cebu as investment location in the country. Since its operation in Cebu in 2001, Bigfoot poured in an investment of some $25 million to $30 million and hired about 600 Cebuanos, he said. In both instances, I was asked to give a talk about the Silicon Valley model. One thing that struck me about Cebu is the fact that it is gung-ho about this model. The city does not advertise it that much in the sense that it doesn’t proclaim itself as the IT capital of the Philippines. Instead of advertising that so-and-so company has located in Cebu (Lexmark is there, so is NEC and others), local executives are instead embarking on something that very few have bothered to do -- educating themselves about the Silicon Valley model, and taking pains in not misusing the term. One of their proposals is for a consortium of schools to adopt a common syllabus for computer science and software engineering. If I recall correctly, this will involve five Cebu universities that will offer a similar set of programs in software engineering. I had urged the head of the Cebu foundation, Boni Belen, to consider a program similar to the University of the Philippines’ Intarmed program for its medical students, and develop a straight five-year program where the student ends up with a BS and MS in software engineering or computer science. That should help generate a critical mass of people with enough skills to do the higher value-added software work required to compete with countries like China and India. Another advantage is the large number of expatriate technical professionals in the city, and the proximity of most areas. These expats have a role to play aside from offering technical input to local companies. They can also help market these companies abroad. Without putting Metro Manila (where I live) and other cities down, it just excites me when local governments and nongovernment organizations sit down and study the Silicon Valley model and adopt long-range plans to realize the goal, instead of relying on just media and some posters to announce it. http://www.itmatters.com.ph/columns.php?id=posadas_041106 rustyboi April 10th, 2006, 11:25 PM An article I found : Cebu silicon island By Dennis Posadas Without putting Metro Manila (where I live) and other cities down, it just excites me when local governments and nongovernment organizations sit down and study the Silicon Valley model and adopt long-range plans to realize the goal, instead of relying on just media and some posters to announce it. http://www.itmatters.com.ph/columns.php?id=posadas_041106 Thanks for the article Jamaicus. Cebu's economic team is very serious about studying the Silicon Valley model for the IT industry and the Singaporean Educational System. But here's an article, I already posted it in the Cebu Heritage thread. Digging out Plaza Independencia Published: 30 March 2006 IN the thick of the largest gathering ever of archaeologists in the Asia-Pacific region last week at UP Diliman, the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) sent an urgent note to the National Museum (NM) regarding plans for the subway to be built at Plaza Independencia. Conscious of the culture and heritage issues involved in such a project, the DPWH had commissioned in 2002 an archaeological assessment of the site, carried out by a team from NM. That team had recommended the total excavation of the areas to be affected by the project -- literally the entire plaza since three distinct cultural levels have so far been determined to lie beneath, namely: colonial, late pre-colonial and Metal Age. This translates to a period covering from between 2,000 to 3,000 years before present. The three burials uncovered during this assessment are very telling of what lies beneath. "Philippines is a gold mine of good accommodation or hotel workers in the world. People are easy to train, they learn fast," said Plantation Bay Food and Beverage director Enzo Ciliani. Ciliani, who returned to the Philippines after taking similar jobs in different hotels in the world, said Filipino hotel staff are the best in the world. "I lose one, it doesn't matter and it doesn't give me a problem, Filipinos are resilient, it doesn't take long to train them," the Italian hotelier said. Ciliani worked for Plantation Bay for seven years when it started its operations over a decade ago, but he went abroad, and last worked in a hotel in Egypt. He said brain drain in the hotel industry here, is not likely to be a problem by the hotel operators. He admitted that a few of his food and beverage staff have gone to other countries like Dubai, but he said he can immediately find somebody to fill the vacancies. He added that unlike other nationalities, Filipinos are more kind, approachable, and most of all fluent in English. "This is not the case in other countries," he added. With Ciliani's come back in Plantation Bay, he said he is trying to highlight Filipino Fiesta culture in food serving, although the five-star resort has several theme restaurants. Every Monday, he said Plantation Bay will be showcasing a Filipino Fiesta ambiance for the guests' dinner, to go with ballroom dancing to complete display the Filipino way of celebration. After his seven-year service in Plantation Bay, Ciliani was able to work with other International hotel chain abroad, like InterContinental, Peninsula, and even Shangri-La hotel properties, but now he is back to the Cebuano-owned resort Plantation Bay. He said Cebu has a great potential to attract more foreign tourists, aside from the Japanese, Koreans, and the Chinese. He said if it has to promote well in European market, and accessibility will be put in place, Cebu could become a vacation haven for the Europeans. For him, he said Cebu is not an expensive destination, other destinations in world like Turkey is more expensive than Cebu. Although, he said that Thailand is the popular destination for the wealthy Europeans because of its accessibility. ashton April 12th, 2006, 02:13 AM ^^ Si Manuel Gonzales imu pasabot? Does this mean that Mactan is not as beautiful as Bantayan island? here's a news article about Bantayan today form Cebu Daily News. punta pa ba kayo ng Bantayan island? Read the second paragraph. Nakakawalang gana naman, no reservations better not come! ‘Bantayan island is overbooked’ Published: 12 April 2006 by Jhunnex Napallacan The hundreds of visitors that have arrived in Bantayan for the Holy Week festivities have fully occupied the island’s resorts and pension houses, according to Bantayan Mayor Geralyn Escario-Cañares. Because of this, “kung wa gyud mo’y reservations ug wa mo’y kadangpan diri, mas maayong di nalang mo mopadayon pag-ari (if you have no reservations, better not to come),” Cañares said. Bantayan is a favorite destination during the Holy Week as it is the only place in Cebu where the Vatican permitted its Catholic faithful to feast on pork even on Good Friday. While in some parts of the country Catholics are immersed in solemn commemoration, on this island Holy Week means feasts and celebration. At this time of year, prices of commodities and rental fees for pension houses and resorts usually go up. Most of the island visitors are locals, mostly from mainland Cebu through Hagnaya wharf in San Remegio, but many visitors also come from Iloilo, Cadiz and Masbate. Foreigners have also come in increasing numbers. Cañares said that in Sta. Fe town, the municipal government had allocated a space along the shore where tents could be put up to accommodate additional visitors. This, however, was not allowed in Bantayan town, Cañares said. Discos or concerts are also prohibited upon the advice of the priests, she explained. As of Tuesday, the lady mayor said some Bantayan households have began slaughtering pigs for the celebration. A papal indult granted by Pope Leo XII in the 19th century allows Bantayan residents to feast on meat even on Good Friday because fishermen at this time of year could not go fishing due to the inclement water conditions. The Spanish Church obtained a copy of the indult in 1843, 263 years after the erection of the Parish of Saints Peter and Paul in 1580. The indult was later renewed by Pope Gregory XVI. tj_brewed April 12th, 2006, 08:09 AM see you all in Banatayan! I'll be there till Sunday Morning!!!!! Sayang kaayo kay kanang area has a neatly laid out grid of streets. Anyways, I can't wait to see what the Gokongweis will do with the place! Tom eyes "super block" at North Recla Project Mayor Tomas Osmeña is planning to create a "super block" out of three independent blocks of land at the North Reclamation Project. Thanks in advance! Take a taxi to North Bus Terminal in Mandaue. From there you can choose Vhire Vans or Bus going Hagnaya. For me I always prefer Aircon Bus for comfort. Just be sure you take the one going to Hagnaya and from there enjoy a boat ride to Bantayan island. Bus fare P80 Vhire 100+. Boat fare P150. So a round trip will cost you between 500 to 600 pesos including transport cost in Bantayan. Resort accomodation will cost you between 500 to 1500 a night. This time cottages in Sta. Fe area are already fully booked. But there are so many people just stay party overnight at the beach in tents. Maybe they rented it or brought tents with them rather that stay in the resort. Holyweek in Bantayan is also beach dance party, foods, drinks totally in contrast to other places in the Philippines. Jimbu April 12th, 2006, 07:30 PM Thursday, April 13, 2006 SRP locator to give P500M down payment By Aurelia l. Castro Sun.Star Staff Reporter A Singaporean firm is Cebu City’s biggest potential “pre-approved” locator in the South Reclamation Project (SRP), an official of the Cebu Investments Promotion Center (CIPC) said yesterday. “This firm wants to put up a highly-automated manufacturing plant and wants to buy 20 hectares. We are really dreaming of this because if it does (locate), then we won’t have to worry about our loan for the next five years,” CIPC managing director Joel Mari Yu told Sun.Star Cebu in an interview. CIPC is the designated marketing arm of the SRP. He said Singapore’s Fil-Rich Holdings Corp. will put up the “world’s first” fully automated container manufacturing plant here in Cebu. “We quoted Fil-Rich Holdings Corp. a price of P2 billion or P10,000 per square meter, and they agreed. All negotiations were done already. We expect to receive their down payment of P500 million after the Holy Week,” he said. With the purchase of a 20-hectare land at SRP for P2 billion, he said Cebu City government could pay “more than one-third” of its loan from Japan Bank for International Cooperation. He noted that Fil-Rich Holdings Corp. does not meet SRP’s requirement of 350 to 400 workers for every hectare. However, because it’s a highly strategic firm buying 20 hectares for P2 billion, the land purchase is a “dream” they have sought for, he said. Fully accredited He explained that CIPC uses the standard for export processing zones, where potential locators need to hire 350 to 400 persons per hectare. However, it’s not absolute, he added. Cardiovascular Hospitals of America also wants to put up the first hospital in the Philippines that will be fully accredited by American hospitals insurance system at the SRP. “There’s no hospital yet in the Philippines, including St. Luke’s or Makati Medical Center, that is accredited by the American insurance system. This will be the first,” he said. The hospital will require two hectares of land, he said. In a forum last month, David Paraiso, chairman and director of the Health-care Coalition Institute of Santa Fe Springs, California said aging populations of developed states present tremendous opportunities for countries that can provide retirement homes and medical services to retirees. Yu stressed that for the country to capture the foreign market of retirees, it has to do some “realigning” of its health insurance system to ensure that Philippine doctors and hospitals can accept the insurance companies and policies of the retirees. Jimbu April 12th, 2006, 07:38 PM Thursday, April 13, 2006 City Hall planning to construct SRP access road under bridge Cebu City Hall plans to put up an access road at the South Reclamation Project (SRP), under the bridge connecting mainland Cebu City with Talisay City, said Cebu City Councilor Gabriel Leyson. Leyson said Mayor Tomas Osmeña wants the access road constructed to enable motorists from Cebu City to make a left-turn in going back. This was considered because the long drive at the South Coastal Highway after the bridge will not allow motorists to turn left after the last turn toward Kawit Island. Spillway Since the access road will be built under the bridge, Leyson said this can also be used as a spillway of the channel during high tide. There is no approved budget for the proposed access road, but to begin with the plan, the City Council approved last Wednesday the program of works and estimates (Powe) for the proposed sandbagging of base materials at the SRP. According to the estimates, the City will spend about P7.3 million for the sandbagging of base materials at P31.80 per bag for 230,400 bags. Leyson said the mayor particularly wants to adopt sandbagging, an old American technology of manually compacting base aggregates, because of cheap manual labor and the technique’s integrity. Deferred Meanwhile, the council deferred the deliberation on the proposed acquisition of more properties affected by the access road in Barangay Mambaling to the SRP. The proposed resolutions authored by Councilor Jose Daluz covers the plan to buy an 86-square-meter lot owned by Felix and Hilaria Ting, another 109-square-meter lot owned by Remedios Tan Romero and a 95-square-meter property of Wilfredo and Elizabeth Chy. Other separate parcels include those owned by Gabriel Alonzo and Martha Dacuyan. (GAC) ryanr April 13th, 2006, 01:37 AM Are they renovating Coral Reef Resort? Firm to finish Uniwide building, develop area near CICC The unfinished Uniwide building and its sorrounding area at the Mandaue Reclamation Area will soon be converted into a commercial and recreational center. The city council has given mayor Thadeo Ouano the go-signal to lease the 59,568 square meter city-owned property, including the unfinished building, to Star 168 Inc., which has committed "to construct structures solely commercial, recreational and institutional in nature." Ouano told SunStar Cebu yesterday that with the lease contract, the city will no longer have to attend to the beautification of this area, which is adjacent to the Cebu International Convention Center (CICC). Under the proposed lease contract, Star 168 Inc. will lease the property for 25 years at a monthly rental of P8 per square meter or P476,544. Based on the project plans submitted to the mayor, the firm will pour in a total investment of P160 million for the entire project, which is divided into six phases. The contract even provides that the firm will beautify and develop the frontage of the leased premises before Oct. 31 in preparation for the Association of SouthEast Asian Nations summit in December. If completed, Star 168, as well as CICC and Cebu Doctors University, which are both under construction, are expected to propel economic activities at the Mandaue Reclamation Area. Sinjin P. April 13th, 2006, 03:53 PM ‘Bantayan island is overbooked’ The hundreds of visitors that have arrived in Bantayan for the Holy Week festivities have fully occupied the island’s resorts and pension houses, according to Bantayan Mayor Geralyn Escario-Cañares. April 13th, 2006, 03:55 PM Large crowds prompt Capitol to push bus terminal expansion THE deluge of people who used the Cebu South Bus Terminal yesterday only underscores the need to expand the facility, according to Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia. She revealed that the Capitol is set to implement anytime now the court order telling squatters occupying more than 30,000 square meters in the terminal to leave for their relocation site. “We have given them enough time, stretched our patience for so long. Less than 100 ra sila, while hundreds of thousands nga mga taga province nga maoy nanag-iya niini will benefit from the expansion,” Garcia, who inspected the terminal yesterday, told reporters. Parking space A farmers’ mall or a shopping complex is being eyed to add to the terminal, but Garcia stressed that the expansion of parking spaces for the buses will have to come immediately after the demolition of structures. The terminal also posted a 16.3 percent increase in income from January to March this year, compared to last year’s first-quarter figures. The illegal settlers had vowed to bring the conflict all the way to the Supreme Court. But the governor said that as of now, the Regional Trial Court decision upholding the Capitol’s stand stays. It is not even the responsibility of the Province to give them a relocation site, but it has offered one, she added. The illegal occupants, however, refused to go to the relocation area in Barangay Kalunasan. “Wa sila kauyun sa relocation site. Sorry ha, wa man gud mi kakita og condominium, mahal man pud ang Maria Luisa... Usahay man gud malimot ta sa atong kaugalingung responsibilidad ug abusuhan nalang ang kaayo sa tawo (They do not like the relocation site. I’m sorry we failed to find a condominium, and Maria Luisa is expensive. Sometimes people forget their own responsibilities and abuse the kindness of others),” the governor said. The governor said they still have to find a way of doing expansion without disrupting ongoing terminal operations, considering that the facility is already crowded. Commended Meanwhile, the governor commended the terminal management for the rise in revenues. “I will be happier if this will increase further,” she said. The terminal earned P19,653,203 last year. Garcia has set a target of P25 million in earnings for this year. Manny Guial, the terminal’s manager, expects to have more income-generating activities for the facility for the rest of the year, with the small businesses approaching him for space there. “I gave them the benchmark, meeting the target will be up to their innovativeness and creativity,” Garcia said. Sinjin P. April 13th, 2006, 03:57 PM Order invites pilgrims to Via Crucis in Talamban CATHOLICS are encouraged to observe the traditional pilgrimage that traces the life and sacrifice of Jesus Christ this Holy Week. The Way of the Cross is a series of 14 stations representing key events in the Passion of Christ. One example can be found in the Order of the Discalced Augustinians’ (OAD) formation house in Tabor Hills, Talamban, where pilgrims can make their way up a hill where the different stations are spread out. But instead of 14 stations, OAD has 16 stations. According to the OAD regional supervisor, Fr. Luigi Kerschbamer, the OAD Way of the Cross was intended to symbolize Jesus Christ’s walk before He was crucified. The formation house’s “Stations of the Cross” was opened four years ago, and stays open all year-round. On Holy Thursday and Good Friday, “it’s like Carbon,” said Kerschbamer of the crowds. The practice of retracing the Way of the Cross originated in Jerusalem, inspired by early Christians who walked the route on which Christ was taken to Calvary. From the words of St. Bridgitte who saw a vision of Jesus and His suffering before He was crucified, Jesus received 150 blows on the head, 108 on the stomach and 80 kicks on the shoulders. More than 600 armed soldiers trailed him during his journey to Calvary. Citing her vision, St. Bridgitte also wrote that Jesus had 20 wounds on the head from blows, 110 gashes on the head caused by a crown made of thorns, and 1,000 wounds on His body. Meditation “This is a meditation of the passion and death of Jesus Christ... Doing this is a sign of gratitude because Jesus paid for our sins,” Fr. Kerschbamer said of the practice, in an interview with Sun.Star Cebu. The Stations of the Cross were built on a steep hill, so the OAD also has a Rosary Garden that contains all the 20 mysteries, where the elderly and those with health problems can pray without the uphill climb. The first station is at the lower portion of the hill, where the first step of a long staircase starts. A 33-meter-long millennium cross stands on the 12th station. At the foot of the cross is a framed portrait of relics of the witnesses of Jesus’ Passion and other important items found during Jesus’ lifetime. Fr. Harold Toledano, the formation house’s master of aspirants, announced that they will have a Holy Week presentation this 7:30 p.m. that is open to the public. According to Toledano, the play “Kristo Tanging Mahal” reflects the Passion of Christ according to the Gospel of John, and portrays a modern life story of a family that overcomes trials through faith. At 5 a.m. of each Friday, different groups make their pilgrimage in Tabor Hills but this Maundy Thursday and Good Friday, more people are expected to fill the area. Apart from retracing the Way of the Cross, Catholics also practice fasting and abstinence during the Holy Week. On Good Friday, Cebu Archbishop Ricardo Cardinal Vidal is expected to deliver a message during the Cebu Metropolitan Cathedral’s Siete Palabras, a meditation on Jesus Christ’s final words. Sinjin P. April 13th, 2006, 04:01 PM Two-day processions kick off this evening Life-size religious images will tour around the city for the traditional processions today (Maundy Thursday) and tomorrow (Good Friday) to commemorate the sufferings and death of Jesus Christ. The images will be surrounded with elaborate floral decorations and lights on carrozas, usually mini-trucks. These images that will be brought around the city streets are "Santo Entiero" (Haya ni Kristo) and the "Dolorosa" (Sorrowful Mother Mary). Images of important characters like the apostle Peter, Mary Magdalene and St. Veronica will be included since some devotees say prayers while following their carrozas. The first procession, which will start at 6:30 p.m. today, will depict the incidents before Jesus' death, including the betrayal of Judas up to Pontius Pilate's washing of hands. In Guadalupe, a street play depicting Jesus' passion dubbed "Buhing Kalbaryo" will be held on Friday noon. On Easter Sunday, parishes have prepared a presentation during the "Sugat" to encourage parishioners and guests to attend the early morning Mass. Sinjin P. April 13th, 2006, 04:03 PM Tomas revives plan to privatize CCMC Two years after Mayor Tomas Osmeña came to the verge of closing down the 45-year-old Cebu City Medical Center, persistent reports of unprofessional attitude of some of its personnel have prompted the mayor to revive and pursue plans to have it privatized instead. Osmena's renewed threat came after he received reports that CCMC turned down a pregnant inmate of Mabolo Police stockade while on labor. The mayor said such incident did not only befall upon city constituents but also on his wife Margot's driver who CCMC had refused to attend to, resulting in his death. "One day, I will have to close it down," Osmeña said while admitting that the city government is currently planning to privatize the hospital. Osmeña said if the plan pushes through, the city will give instead the city funds to the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center, which will in turn take over in serving patients from the city. The main problem of the city over the plan is where to find between P50 and P100 million for retirement and terminal payments of the affected employees, said Osmeña as he emphasized that privatization of CCMC is beneficial to people needing its services. Two years ago, CCMC was almost closed down when Osmeña gave it only six months more to operate as it was saddled with criticisms of inefficiency, corruption, political intervention, lack of equipment, lack of manpower, and unprofessional attitude of its personne The mayor "froze" the functions of the CCMC board, and created instead a management team composed of private sector representatives to oversee the hospital's day-to-day operations. The three-story CCMC was constructed on a 10,000-square-meter lot along South Express Highway. For the past years, it underwent several renovations to its present 200-bed capacity. It was on April 27, 1961 when the then city council of Cebu City approved Ordinance No. 343 establishing the Cebu City Hospital to serve city residents. On January 15, 1979 it got its present name after the city council adopted Resolution No. 42 and Ordinance 1019, which mandates the city government to maintain and operate a non-profit general hospital, which will provide adequate medical service to the city's underprivileged residents. slimer April 13th, 2006, 04:31 PM nindota sa ubang taga SSC uy nag-beach man. well we went to church this afternoon and here some pics i took. Although i was born and raised in Cebu City, Lapu-lapu is where my heart/home is. :D for the first time, i walked around the city streets all by myself under the excruciating summer heat  and because SSC is so contagious with the so-called "picture-picture" fever, i never left without my handy-dandy camera. ;) while the cebu-based forumers are all out-of-town, i hope these'll feast our eyes in the meantime while they're away. Lapu-Lapu City in Pictures April 13 2006 by Rusty18 The First Mandaue-Mactan Bridge http://i62.photobucket.com/albums/h102/cebupics3/Lapu-Lapu/04-13-06/bridge01.jpg Marcelo Fernan Bridge (2nd Bridge) The W-O-R-L-D's longest center-spanned cable-stayed bridge! http://i62.photobucket.com/albums/h102/cebupics3/Lapu-Lapu/04-13-06/bridge02.jpg http://i62.photobucket.com/albums/h102/cebupics3/Lapu-Lapu/04-13-06/bridge03.jpg Mactan Marina Mall http://i62.photobucket.com/albums/h102/cebupics3/Lapu-Lapu/04-13-06/mmm01.jpg http://i62.photobucket.com/albums/h102/cebupics3/Lapu-Lapu/04-13-06/mmm02.jpg http://i62.photobucket.com/albums/h102/cebupics3/Lapu-Lapu/04-13-06/mmm03.jpg http://i62.photobucket.com/albums/h102/cebupics3/Lapu-Lapu/04-13-06/mmm04.jpg http://i62.photobucket.com/albums/h102/cebupics3/Lapu-Lapu/04-13-06/mmm05.jpg http://i62.photobucket.com/albums/h102/cebupics3/Lapu-Lapu/04-13-06/mmm06.jpg Real Beauty is EFFORTLESS more photos to come :) xDieselJockx April 13th, 2006, 05:51 PM beautiful pics slim and rusty!!! rustyboi April 13th, 2006, 06:00 PM Sto. Naa ra diay ka didto? hehe fundraiser April 14th, 2006, 04:56 AM heres an interesting find on the net, journal of the house from the house of representatives. pero dugay na ni, november 2005 pa. House Bill No. 4845, entitled: “AN ACT GRANTING PHILIPPINE CITIZENSHIP TO MICHAEL G.J. GLEISSNER” House Bill No. 4857, entitled: “AN ACT PROVIDING FOR THE CONSTRUCTION OF AN UNDERSEA TUNNEL FROM CEBU CITY TO LAPU LAPU CITY, PROVINCE OF CEBU, AND APPROPRIATING FUNDS THEREFOR” more (http://www.congress.gov.ph/legis/print_journal.php?congress=13&id=117) another nice article from the net Cebu Teaches The Other Philippine Cities How To Do It It was no junket but basically a learning experience. The resilience and political maturity of the Cebuanos is something we in Pampanga can learn a lot from. It has all the basic elements of a progressive and nearly self-reliant province. It is not surprising why Cebu was given the moniker Queen City of the South. With its facilities and disciplined people, I am not surprised why it is the favorite haven for seminars and conventions. Cebu may not have the cozy climate of Baguio, but the totality of its attractions make it a favorite tourist destination. more (http://www.livinginthephilippines.com/cebu_glimpse.html) LordCarnal April 14th, 2006, 04:59 AM @Rusty18 Rusty, if you wanna take more pictures especially in SRP, Mandaue Recla or what, text me kay I'm also just here in the city.
