How big is this Boardwalk Mall Sinjin?

At first I thought that it's just going to be another "warehouse" but it's the boardwalk mall after all!

I guess they're racing against time especially that CDU is opening soon... We'll be expecting the CDU people to make this as their new "tambayanan."

DOT chief rejects opposition to PNB

AS FAR as the government is concerned, Coral Reef Resort and Golf Club (Coral Reef) is already a property of the Philippine National Bank (PNB).

“The Supreme Court has already decided on the case. And its decision (which is in favor of the PNB) is final,” Tourism Secretary Joseph “Ace Durano” told Sun.Star Cebu in an interview.

Palm Tree Estate Inc. and Bel Air Golf Inc. filed a civil case for illegal mortgage and foreclosure against PNB. Palm Tree used to operate Coral Reef Resort while Bel Air ran the golf club.

Kenichi Akimoto, president and chairman of both companies, earlier said they are not surrendering Coral Reef to PNB, saying the companies have already invested about $30 million to $ 40 million of their own funds on the 50-room resort.

Resume

He said the companies are planning to resume the operations of the resort, as soon as the case is resolved, as they forsee a boom in Cebu’s tourism industry.

But Durano said the Department of Tourism (DOT) will talk only to the PNB.

The DOT has been helping defunct hotels and resorts in Cebu look for partners and investors to enable them to reopen the facilities and solve the problem on shortage of guest rooms in Cebu.

Durano revealed that PNB is in serious negotiations with a foreign buyer for Coral Reef.

In a separate interview, Romulo Senining, legal counsel of Palm Tree and Bel Air, said prospective buyers of Coral Reef will have to deal with his clients because of the pending case.

Foreclosed

The resort, which started operations in 1989, has been foreclosed by PNB in September last year after Palm Tree and Bel Air failed to pay their $420-million loan incurred in 1997 for the purpose of expansion.

Senining said the main case, which was filed in 2001 yet, seeks to nullify the real estate mortgage to PNB on allegations of vague loan agreements.

“The terms and conditions of the loan agreements, such as that on the value of the peso to the dollar, were changed after the mortgage was constituted. There was also coercion, an imposition on the companies to accept unilaterally the interest pegged by PNB,” he alleged in an interview.

Palm Tree and Bel Air incurred the loan in 1997, when the value of the peso to the dollar was still around P24, he said.

The weighted average of the peso last Friday stood at 50.083 against the dollar. (JBN)

Int’l. clinic opens in Cebu, offers alternative care

THE coming in to Cebu of an international traditional and alternative healthcare system will strengthen Cebu’s bid to attract medical tourists to the province.

“Intercare (Integrated Systems Inc.), being a global brand, has patients abroad, especially Europe. Their presence here (in Cebu) could encourage their patients to have their treatment here, as it would be cheaper, while enjoying what Cebu has to offer to tourists,” Tourism Secretary Joseph “Ace” Durano said in an interview.

Durano, who admitted being a patient of Intercare, said the clinic offers non-surgical treatment that can be an addition to the service culture of the Cebuanos that is being promoted by the tourism department.

Durano and Cebu Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia, were guests during the official opening of Intercare Cebu Inc.

Drug-free

Intercare is a pioneer in a natural, drug-free and integrated, interdisciplinary approach to pain management. It has branches in Makati, San Juan, Muntinlupa and in Oslo, Norway.

Dr. Martin Camara, clinic director, said Intercare Cebu is the company’s first branch outside Metro Manila.

“Why? Because Cebu is known to have value for money proposition and we are willing to face that challenge because we are worth it,” he said.

“There is an underserved population that is not getting the care that it deserves. We offer technology, skills and procedures. We have grown since 1993 and have refined our systems. It’s time to share with other communities in the Philippines outside of Manila, beginning with Cebu,” he added.

Camara said the Cebu branch is a 45-percent Cebuano-owned company.

Treatment

The clinic’s services include chiropractic medicine, myotherapy, physical therapy and rehabilitative medicine.

Myotherapy treatment is a muscle and relaxation therapy that reduces tension and pain, relaxes muscle spasms, improves circulation and alleviates pain.

Physical therapy, on the other hand, involves a wide array of treatment alternatives that integrate several disciplines and techniques such as heat, therapeutic ultrasound, myotherapy, specialized traction and monitored exercise programs.

Earlier, National Association of Independent Travel Agencies president Angel Bognot said the Philippines is a potential medical tourist hub because of the Filipinos’ innate warmth and hospitality.

Medical tourism is defined as a package that involves providing hassle-free, efficient and world-class medical care at a lesser cost and a tropical vacation to pamper patients and their families. (JBN)

Diba mahal ra man ang P100 nga BUS CERES? Murag pareho ra sad gilay-on sa Cebu-Bogo, ug Cebu-Badian..

Or what if V-HIRE?

Asa pod mag meet? sa Terminal? sa McDO Mambaling?

If P800 ra ang gasoline back and forth, mas maayo mag contribute na lang kaysa BUS.. If five ta kabuok, tapos P150 each, that would be around P750..

There are four of us nga confirmed na, I guess we need one more.. Hehehe..

pero us Filipinos has a very different context of what a "motel" is. But for Americans and Europeans, it is a Mini-Hotel or Mobile Hotel. An inn that has a "pleasant smell" to the eyes of the western society.

Anyway, what about Pension Houses here in Cebu? :)

Anyway, motels are not just for quickies, one night stands and make love thingys. Motels and pension houses are also part of the tourism industry in which it is supposedly also to accommodate backapackers who went to Cebu in a shoestring budget. It is somewhere that a traveler can stay and rest for a while after a long trip or spend a night with.

Having clean pension houses, tourist inns, drive-in motels and stand-alone motels will give a lasting impression to the visitors of the place they are visiting.

RP wooing Hyatt, Hilton
By Elaine Ruzul S. Ramos

Senior officials of United States-based hotel operators Hyatt Group and Hilton Group will visit the Philippines by yearend or early next year to scout for possible investment opportunities in the retirement sector.

Edgardo Aglipay, chairman of the Philippine Retirement Authority, told reporters yesterday the two groups would look at fields of cooperation with the agency.

“They will look at our facilities and the properties that we are offering [as possible locations]. Their intention is to put up retirement villages in the country,” he said.

Aglipay said Hyatt and Hilton, which are among the biggest hotel chain operations in the world, had also ventured into retirement homes.

“Old buildings in the US are being taken over by Hilton and Hyatt to be converted to retirement villages. They have expanded from just catering to tourists, who only stay for a limited time, [unlike} retirees [who] stay for the remainder of their lives.”

Hyatt owns, manages, develops and markets upscale senior living communities across the US. Hilton owns, manages or franchises a hotel portfolio of some of the best known and highly regarded brands, including Hilton, Conrad, Doubletree, Embassy Suites Hotels, Hampton Inn, Hampton Inn & Suites, Hilton Garden Inn, Hilton Grand Vacations, Homewood Suites by Hilton, Scandic and The Waldorf Astoria Collection.

Aglipay said the agency had identified Baguio City, Clark, Subic, Tagaytay, Cebu and Davao as key locations for retirement communities.

CHI, Fastem soar to new heights

Cebu Holdings, Inc., a publicly listed company engaged in real property ownership, development marketing, and management, is looking forward to the completion of FASTEM Housing and & Development's latest project -- Tower Palace State-of-the-Art Residential Condominium. Early this year, Fastem Housing and Development Inc.(FHDI) has already commenced in the construction of the technologically advanced 19-storey condominium.

Francis Monera, CHI Chief Operating Officer, has expressed his delight that the construction of Tower Palace is underway. "On behalf of Cebu Holdings, Inc., I am very pleased to see the progress of our newest locator's (FHDI) latest project," Monera further said. "We were very honored when Fastem chose the Cebu Business Park as the place to build their latest project: Tower Palace Residential Condominium."

The soon-to-rise Tower Palace Residential Condominium would truly be a sight to behold. It is nestled in the heart of Cebu Business Park, a sprawling urban development teeming with business, residential, sports, recreation and leisure facilities. One of the Philippines' most important centers of regional trade, Cebu Business Park houses Ayala Center Cebu, a shopping mall that includes restaurants, bars, coffee shops, fitness, gyms, a sports and recreation club, a world class hotel chain and several commercial high-rise buildings and banking institutions.

"Tower Palace is a very good investment because its strategic location, contemporary furnishings nad fixtures as well as other recreational facilities within the building itself and around the vicinty" Monera added. Tower Palace is strategically located right across the south entrance of the Ayala Center Cebu Shopping mall. Aside from its convenient location, it also boasts of the latest high-quality interiors, multi-system air conditioning, digital door locks, high-tech security and numerous in-house facilities.

"At the end of the day, residents can kick their shoes off and relax in the comforts of their home, without it being too far from the convenience of the city," said Kyu Baek, President of FASTEM Group of Companies. "That's what Tower Palace is all about -- delivering satisfaction and a whole new living experience."

Oist, we've just arrived from KAWASAN FALLS... Truly the best! It was my first time to go there.

The "force" of the falls is truly outstanding. If you are into Aikido, standing right at the falls will give you some "Chi", hahaha, like what the great Osensei did when he was still alive, haha..... And I did it a while ago..

If you are into "nature healing", experiencing the power of the falls as a "water massage" will truly give you a therapeutic experience!

Weeee, we left Kawasan Falls at around 4:00pm, after which we proceeded to Moalboal's white sand beach (Bas Daku)..

Bad trip, nabasa ang digicam so dili mu-andar, hehehe, but we were able to take tons of pics. Slerz will post them later on..

this is another great news for cebu and so timely for our hosting of the ASEAN Summit... At least the delegates won't question Philippines' decision of chosing Cebu as the venue of this year's summit, top 8 baya sa Conde Naste! and 3 consecutive years being part of top 10 is not that easy!

Great news, folks!!! Cebu landed number 8 with a 71.0 rating ahead of Borneo and Mauritius and behind top awardee Maldives (91.5), Bali (85.9), Phuket (81.8), Langkawi (80.1) in the race for the 2006 TOP 10 Asian/Indian Ocean ISLANDS !!!

The only other Philippine awardees listed are 1)Peninsula Manila---93.7 (#12 among the top 75 Asia Hotels & #67 OVERALL among CONDE NAST TRAVELER's TOP 100 READERS' CHOICE AWARDS and 2)Makati Shangri-La---82.5 (#65 out of 75 Asia Hotels).---Nov 2006 issue.

^^ Posible. Mount Canlaon can be seen in southern Panay as far as 150+ kilometers on a clear day (especially during clear afternoons). Western Cebu is much closer to Canlaon. Maybe on a clear day somewhere in Toledo or Balamban, you can see the distant silhouette of the volcano.

Cebuanos willing to invest in real estate - developer

CEBUANOS have money, especially for investment purposes.

This is what upscale condominium developer Syntech Properties Inc. (Syntech) realized after two years of marketing in Cebu its four-tower development Citylights Gardens on Nivel Hills, Barangay Busay, Cebu City.

Anita Go Blanco, Syntech sales and marketing manager, said they confirmed this observation after Syntech partnered, as one of its marketing strategies, with the banking arm of the Ayala group of companies, Bank of the Philippine Islands (BPI).
Syntech recently organized a party for BPI preferred clients, during which the developer showcased the condominium units of Citylights.

Construction

Syntech is now selling 216 condominium units of towers three and four, which are under construction, of Citylights. The 144 units comprising existing towers one and two are already completely sold out, Blanco said.

She added that 19 of BPI’s 30 preferred clients present during the party expressed their intention of buying a unit at the high-rise development. Most of the people who signed up want to purchase units for investment reasons.

Blanco said that currently, some unit owners of towers one and two are renting out their units. Monthly rental rates of the units at Citylights are pegged at P40,000 to P50,000 for the two-bedroom and P60,000 to P70,000 for three-bedroom units.

“Most of the lessees are foreigners — Japanese, Europeans and Americans —and sign lease contracts for a minimum of one year,” she said.

Aside from partnering with banks, Syntech has also been joining fairs, exhibitions conventions and other events held anywhere in the country and abroad, and participated in by the higher-income market, to promote Citylights.

Aside from security and exclusivity, Citylights boasts of common amenities, which include a clubhouse, multi-purpose hall, swimming pools, gymnasium with sauna, golf putting green, playground, barbecue pits, 24-hour security service and computerized surveillance system, among others. Cebu bizmen’s group picked as country’s best

By Regina Aguilar
Cebu Daily News
Last updated 10:56am (Mla time) 10/24/2006

For the second successive year, the Cebu Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCCI) was named “most outstanding chamber” in the entire country.

CCCI president Francis O. Monera received the award last Friday night after attending the Philippine Business Conference organized by the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCCI).

Monera, together with PCCI area vice president for the Visayas Jose Ng, received the award from President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo at the last day of the conference held at the Manila Hotel.

“We feel so proud because we again managed to best 110 chambers in the country,” Monera told reporters.

CCCI got the award for its exemplary accomplishments and performance as a model business support organization in the country, demonstrated by its advocacy initiatives and wide menu of services and programs benefiting the business community and the society in general.

The chamber won the same award last year, in 1995 and in 1996. In 1997, the CCCI was already elevated to the Hall of Fame.

Monera said President Arroyo was delighted with the active role the local business sector in Cebu played in responding to the economic crisis.

“The President noted that Cebu's local business sector is always ready with solutions on how to overcome a crisis, which she most often than not find amenable. She cited our recent meeting with her, when we presented six solutions on how we can address the current crisis faced by the export industry,” he said.

Monera was referring to the local business sector's meeting with the President on October 12 that led to among others, the exemption of exporters and allied operators from the four-day ASEAN Summit holidays in December.

The CCCI also received a special citation from the PCCI for successfully organizing Cebu Business Month 2006.

The Cebu City government, meanwhile, was given a special citation from the PCCI for its investment promotions program.

The award was given by Vice President Noli de Castro and received by Cebu Investment Promotions Center (CIPC) managing director Joel Mari Yu.

The Mandaue Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MCCI) was also cited for its leadership and dynamism.

The Most Outstanding Chamber Award seeks to recognize local chambers whose leadership and dynamism contributed to business growth and development of the community it serves as seen through active involvement in advocacy to provide a suitable environment for the growth and expansion of commerce and industry

City Hall paints the town yellow

By Doris C. Bongcac
Cebu Daily News
Last updated 10:52am (Mla time) 10/25/2006

A lot of areas in Cebu City are now yellow.

Mayor Tomas Osmeña said the city government spent about P1 million taken from its funds for its Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Summit preparations to paint electric posts and street railings yellow.

Yellow, Osmeña said, is the internationally-accepted color for posts.

Although yellow is the official color of the Bando Osmeña Pundok Kauswaga (BOPK), the mayor’s political party, Osmeña said painting posts and railings yellow had no political undertones.

“We have thought of the yellow paints so that your eyes will go to the painted posts and not the urban poor communities near it,” the mayor said.

The city government hired the services of about 50 laborers and bought three multicabs last month for its massive post and rail painting campaign. One of the multicabs is equipped with a water tanker and is also used to clean skywalks.

Areas that have already been given a coat of yellow paint include M.J. Cuenco Ave., Osmeña Boulevard, Escario St., and Juan Luna Ave.

Aerosol paints were also bought to cover graffiti on painted posts.

“We anticipated vandalism, especially in areas near schools, that is why we also bought yellow colored aerosol sprays,” the mayor said.

However, Osmeña said they opted to only paint a portion of the post measuring five to six feet from the ground because of the lack of time.

“It's too much already and it's time consuming if we paint the entire post because it will already require the use of a ladder,” he said.

While hired laborers go around city streets to paint electric posts, they also remove unauthorized signages like those advertising the services of lipat bahay (home mover) trucks.here (http://globalnation.inq7.net/cebudailynews/news/view_article.php?article_id=28602)

More projects at SRP eyed for inmates

By Doris C. Bongcac, Jhunnex Napallacan, Chris Ligan
Cebu Daily News
Last updated 10:52am (Mla time) 10/25/2006

Cebu City Mayor Tomas Osmeña has thought of another work opportunity for inmates at the Bagong Buhay Rehabilitation Center (BBRC).

Osmeña said he would also want selected inmates to help in the establishment of a man-made white sand beach at the seawall of the South Road Properties (SRP).

A total of 30 inmates from the Bagong Buhay Rehabilitation Center (BBRC) have been selected for work in the South Road Properties (SRP), according to Chief Inspector Gil Inopia, BBRC deputy warden.

The selected inmates await the go-signal from Mayor Osmeña, Inopia said.

Inopia said it was their administrative division that recommended the inmates for the SRP work.

The recommended list, however, needs to be approved by the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology in Central Visayas, Inopia said.

In addition to the one million sand bags to be manufactured by the prisoners, Osmeña wants an area of 1.4 kilometers of the seawall filled with finely crashed rocks to convert it into a shoreline.

Dakay Construction is now working on a small portion of the seawall measuring about 50 meters wide, where they are testing the viability of the mayor's project. The test area would also determine the volume of crushed stone needed for the white sand beach.

Osmeña earlier said he wanted to hire BBRC inmates due for release to manufacture sand bags needed to open interior roads at the SRP and to paint a portion of the seawall and the sidewalk.

He said one million sand bags need to be produced within the next six months.

The mayor thought of using sand bags as foundation for interior roads because of their durability. The sand bags would later be covered by asphalt.

Councilors Edgardo Labella and Hilario Davide III are supportive of the mayor's plan to employ inmates.

Labella, however, wanted to be clarified on the legal procedures in acquiring the services of the prisoners.

“Maayo ang katuyo-an sa mayor to make them productive but we need the permission of the court. Kinahanglan ug pagtoon on the filing of necessary motions in court,” he said.

BBRC jail warden Efren Nemeño, for his part, said the plan to tap the BBRC prisoners for manual labor at the SRP was already “approved in principle” by the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology.

Nemeño said BJMP chief Superintendent Antonio Cruz had already approved the plan during their conversation last week after the city government sent him the letter about Mayor Tomas Osmeña's plan.

Nemeño said he personally talked to Cruz last week during the shooting competition of BJMP officers.

Cruz seemed to be happy with the idea because this would help in rehabilitating the prisoners, Nemeño said.

To ensure the plan has no legal impediment, they have referred it to the legal department of the BJMP.

Nemeño said Cruz may issue a memorandum this week for the approval of the plan after the findings of their legal department. If the legal department recommends that they would need a court order, they would get one, he said.

Nemeño said he personally believed the court only needed to be informed.

Nemeño said once the court had convicted someone, the jurisdiction of the prisoners would now go to the jail warden.

Out of respect to the court, however, Nemeño said BBRC was informing the court about the idea.

IBP Cebu City President Alex Tolentino, who is apprehensive about the plan, did not object to it.

“First, this is very risky. Second, they have to ask permission from the court”, Tolentino said.

Tolentino said it was difficult to say if it was legal or not because there was no jurisprudence tackling the idea.

Inopia said the 30 inmates selected faced minor cases and have three to six months’ stay in the city jail left.

“Pagsiguro nga di mopuga ang patrabahoon sa SRP, gipili namo ang gagmay og kaso ug hapit na molaya,” Inopia said.

Police and court officials are still studying the proposal to hire inmates for manual labor in the SRP, paying detainees P100 a day and offering free meals.

The scheme, which would save costs for the city government, is mainly intended to rehabilitate detainees of the overcrowded Cebu City jail.

If implemented, the plan would be the first program of its kind in the country.

I HOPE THE CITY AND PROVINCIAL GOVERNMENT CAN DO SOMETHING ABOUT THESE:

1. Basura na pataka lang ug labay. I doubt if ang Solid Waste Management Act napatuman ba gyud. Dapat unta mandatory for all establishments na segregated sa ilang basura kay sila man usa sa mga dako na contributor sa basura. Labina ang mga fast food chains.

5. Smoke belching. Lantaran kaayo na mga sakyanan labina kanang mga public utility jeepneys, taxis and even mga trucks na murag uling ang ibugwak sa tambutso. Ngano man intawn dili man gyud sila ka dakop ni-ini nila. Mao na maka cause ug traffic most of the time. Napa gyud... Kita ug ang mga turista sa sugbo maoy best advertisers in promoting what a beautiful place CEBU is!

Siguro gamay lang ni para nila pero in one way or the other dako biya ni ug impact pud. Cguro Cebu may have landed 8th in the best cities in asia pero if we can do better then why not. Perhaps, we can even rank even higher not only in Asia but in the World. Hinaut pa unta.

The group, about 500 Muslim family members from all over Metro Cebu, gathered in an open field near the administrative building of the South Road Properties (SRP) to feast and celebrate the end of the month-long Ramadan.

The Cebu City government hosted the lunch, spending P100, 000 to buy two cows and 363 chickens. It was the first time a local government unit in Cebu hosted a feast to celebrate Eid'l Fitr or the Muslim festival of fast breaking.

Mayor Tomas Osmeña said he wanted to make the Muslims feel part of the Cebuano community and to solicit their cooperation in keeping peace and order when the Association of South East Asian Summit (ASEAN) Summit takes place in December.

About 70,000 Muslims live in Cebu province. Between 7,000 and 10,000 reside in Cebu City barangays including Mambaling, Basak, Lahug, Camputhaw, Ermita, Carbon and Sikatuna.

Sakiran Hajan, regional director of the Office of the Muslim Affairs (OMA) in Central Visayas, said his office has briefed 14 Muslim communities in the province about the need to be vigilant and to help authorities detect the presence of suspected terrorists.

“We can't discount the possibility that terrorists would be coming to Cebu during the summit, but we are hopeful of the cooperation of the Muslim and the non-Muslim communities to help curb infiltration,” he said.

Ustadz Haron Magadapa, Imam of the Green Mosque in Barangay Zapatera and head of the Center for Moderate Muslims Cebu chapter, volunteered the services of some Muslims in the conduct of nightly checkpoints.

His offer, however, is still being studied.

Mayor Osmeña said he would still have to consult the ASEAN organizing committee about it. If permitted, Osmeña said, he would rather they be included in the summit security group tasked to respond to emergency cases.

Fast Break

Osmeña has held a series of dialogues with local Muslim leaders to seek their help in securing Cebu city for the ASEAN by being watchful for suspected terrorists in their communities.

Tuesday’s lunch coincided with a worldwide celebration marking the end of the Ramadan, a traditional period of fasting for Muslims from September 23 to October 23, during which they limited their intake to one meal daily.

The end of Ramadan is a joyous event, on the scale of Easter Sunday for Catholics, according to the mayor.

Jahlillah Liwalug of Basak, Lapu-Lapu City said her family went to a beach resort in Lapu-Lapu City after they prayed on Monday morning to formally close the Ramadan.

Their celebration of the fast-break would continue until Wednesday, she said.

City Administrator Francisco Fernandez said the gathering was part of the city's “public relations” efforts.

“I'm their Sultan,” Mayor Osmeña said. “That is why we did it. The Muslims are happy with Cebu City because they feel accepted here,” the mayor told reporters when he dropped by the festivity. “At least they can say that I'm being responsive to their needs.”

Wearing colorful Muslim clothes, families from various parts of the city gathered at the SRP at about 9 a.m. on Tuesday. They laid mats on the ground where they sat to eat and chat. They were joined by Muslims from Tagonol in Talisay City and Barangay Basak in Lapu-Lapu City.

Government-owned tents were set up while they roasted slices of cow and chicken. Some men and women later gathered in a corner of the SRP administrative building compound to pray at 12 noon.

After the prayer ended, they resumed the picnic.

Alice Utlang, city veterinarian, said the city bought two live cows and 363 chickens, which were turned over to the Muslims for slaughter so that the meat would be “halal” or an acceptable food.

After saying a prayer, the cows were slaughtered at the city abattoir by a Muslim butcher while the chickens were slaughtered in a private abattoir in Mandaue City.

Thanks for the photos Bernie, keep them coming. :)

By the way, let's all congratulate Philwily for passing an exam (IT related). Because of it, he can apply daw for a visa in Japan and work there..

Maybe Brodix can tell us more what this exam is about, hehehe..

Mubangka daw si Philwily, kinsay free karon weekend?

i think it's JITSE or Japan IT Standard Examination. if you are JITSE certified the japanese government will grant you a work visa (i think). i haven't taken that exam yet :D

Yup. It's the JITSE Exam, but they renamed it to PhilNITS or Philippine National IT Standard Examination because it is "equivalent to the European and American standard on the Fundamentals of IT." Supposedly we could apply for a working visa for Japan, but I'm still gaining experience (and still looking for prospective companies). :)

@master brodix: I don't think you need to take the exam anymore... hehe, but if ever you do, I think sure pass ka na with your years of experience and knowledge about IT. :colgate:

Anyway Brodix, Philwily I think is a programmer. If I'm not mistaken, he and his team writes OS (operating system) for NEC. Hehehe..

I was thinking bai Brodix, if only the government would fund the initiatives and ideas of some of our great minds, then like Taiwan and Japan, we can make our own brand of products (celphones, digicams, PDAs, laptops).

Cebu can then have a full-fledged manufacturing and export oriented economy similar to Singapore, Hongkong, and Taiwan.

Hmm.. ok, i'll try to make it not too off topic. There are a lot of Cebu software companies and schools that require or "encourage" their employees and students to take exams. "Encouraging" employees and especially students to take certifications IMO helps project the workforce here in Cebu as globally competent. I know a lot of people have the knowledge and skills, but other companies/countries want certain proof of that competence, and that is where certification exams come in. :okay: ayan, di na OT master brodix. hehe

^^

No not OS, just some other kind software, mostly systems. I don't think I have enough skills for OS development yet. :)

As for own brand of products, hmm... I think if the Philippines (or even Cebu on its own) wants to produce her own products, the government should invest more in education and research and development . IMO, no exceptional product can be made without r&d.

Speaking of export oriented, there is a rumor in our office that Malacañang will grant the request of export-oriented companies in Cebu that they be exempted from the holidays during the Asean Summit. If the request is granted, then Mepz I and II and the IT Park will be pretty much alive during the Summit. :hm:
