guys! 40 storeys na ang Crown Regency Hotel. We had a cocktail party kahapon for the investors and buyers. I had a chitchat with Arch. Duaz (the man behind the design of Fuente Towers) and it was mentioned na instead of 38 storeys - it will be 40 storeys - Crown Regency Hotel Tower!

By the way, we will be launching Ultima Residences Ramos Tower this December 27, 2006.

the contractor told that a long time ago.

it was the media who reported inconsistently that it'll be 40 storeys. officially, this project was supposedly 36 storeys then 38. now 40, as what jech posted.

ah, Crown Regency Tower's height was a hot topic here before you registered here in SSC. ;)

the contractor told that a long time ago.

But with the press releases, 38 storeys ang nasusulat. Even in our weekly meetings within the salesteam. So to set the record straight...its 40!

The topmost is for the hellipad
Followed by 3 floors na may bars and restos.

By the way, we already have the scale model of Ultima Residences Ramos Tower. Feel free to visit our office.

Good morning guys...

Last night when the breaking news about the postponement of 12th ASEAN Summit hits our TV screen at home, I really wanted to go online because at the back of my mind, SSC peeps will be online to discuss the said postponement. But I can't go online since my bro was having a good time chatting online.

Anyway, I was really thinking 3 reasons last night about the postponement of 12th ASEAN Summit. 1.) Weather Storm Seniang. 2.) Political Storm CON-ASS CHA-CHA. 3.) Terror Advisories. For me, it's the number 2 reason. It's really Political Storm CON-ASS CHA-CHA. This is simply because the chief of PAG-ASA when interviewed by Mel and Julius separately, he had the same answer to both anchor. He never recommended it because the typhoon is very slow and will not hit Cebu's capital directly.

Looking and observing our weather now, it seems like there's no storm coming nor going to hit Cebu.

GMA doesn't want nor like to be Thaksin Shinawat part 2. While Thaksin is attending a UN conference in the US. He was unseated and dethrone thru a very organized and well planned COUP.

But actually, it doesn't matter what's the reason behind the postponement. As the saying goes..."There's nothing to lose in every situation, only something to gain if you always look on the bright side".

In this case! Cebu gains a lot!

But for me, as a weather observer, we should expect the worst case scenario.
It is not only by looking the condition of the weather affecting us @ this moment coz as of now the typhoon is still offland and expected to hit land this noon and will near Metro Cebu area within 100 kilometer radius by tonight or tomorrow morning... "there's a LuLL before the storm"...
For me, I recommend to postpone the summit coz the typhoon will really affect the summit, there will be doubts of different heads of states attending the summit regarding their safety with regards to the disturbance. They won't risk their respective airforce 1 to fly into the vicinity of the storm with their prime minister aboard.
If the reason is the Political storm, IMO there will still be a political storm this January or Febuary which I think is still normal and won't directly affect the summit.
Paynor reiterated, we are 100% ready of terrorist attcks, demonstrations, preparations... but if we spaek of Nature, we're not ready!

Asean summit put off; storm cited as reason

CEBU CITY -- Organizers postponed two high-profile regional summits from next week to early January, blaming a brewing storm and not warnings of a planned terrorist attack.

Both the Southeast Asian Leaders' and the East Asia Summits will be held in Cebu shortly before the island's peak tourist season, when the Sinulog festival is held and major hotels are packed.

ASEAN Abortion (by redfacedgirl)

A few minutes after a colleague annoyed the contrasts by urging students to enroll in the university of the streets for the upcoming ASEAN Summit, the word came in: the summit is rescheduled for January.

Months after rigidly preparing for the summit, we are distressed to find out that a stupid typhoon can affect its
schedule. Fortunately still, delegates from Luzon have not boarded their boats--but if they have bought tickets already, they would find a huge dent on their pockets.

But the dents are not only theirs to be found. Expecially on the people here, thousands have been spent for effigies, placards, streamers, and majority of them were acquired with time-constraint on the side. A lot of emergency meetings were held and a lot of people flew in from Manila only to find out later that the big event was not until January.

My brains have somehow been scattered and I am still in search for its parts. The updates would definitely come tomorrow.

Abortion, it seems is a very costly measure.

These are the ironies of the "left". They keep on lambasting the government about money that should be spent on this and that and yet they themselves are insensible to the poverty happening around them by spending thousands of pesos for effegies, placards, etc. only to be burned later on. Well, we can only understand them because most of the "active" members including the officers themselves are not actually "poor" in the sense that they don't live in the darkest corners of society. As what a reliable and credible official once said, these people are taking advantage of the poor just to advance their ideologies and interests (like the setting up of a fascist-dictatorial communist form of gov't.). It would have been better if the leader of Bayan Muna is currently living in Smokey Mountain or what.

They could have just used this money to buy food for the poor or perhaps send someone to school. I smell something fishy on those effegies being burned. Some of those are excellent works of arts and I bet those don't cost a peso or come free. Some of these cost a thousand pesos to make and who knows there might even be some who are getting kickbacks in making and selling it.

ALA OK's 'WORLD CUP' IN CEBU!

The country's boxing capital will host next year's biggest boxing spectacle.

This after Cebu sportsman Antonio L. Aldeguer, who heads the ALA Boxing Gym, yesterday indicated that his group has already decided to bring to Cebu the much-awaited 'World Cup' of boxing set to take place on February 25, 2007.

"We are hereby expressing our keen interest to hold the event on February 25. We will be ready," said Aldeguer in an interview yesterday.

Rey Bautista (center) returns the Philippine flag to Rolando Hiso (left) who came all the way from Chicago to show his support for Boom Boom. Also in photo are trainer Edito Villamor (right) and Eric Gomez (2nd from right) of GBP. Photo by Dong Secuya.

ON TO THE WORLD CUP. Rey Bautista's recent victory against Giovanni Andrade in Tampa made the World Cup possible. Posing with Bautista in Tampa are from left, trainer Edito Villamor, SGG promoter Sammy Gello-ani, WBO Vice-President for Asia-Pacific Leon Panoncillo, Golden Boy Promotions Vice-President Eric Gomez, Golden Boy Promotions matchmaker Sampson Lewkowicz and Sun.Star Cebu's Homer Sayson. Photo by Dong Secuya.

The decision was finalized after Aldeguer had met with his son Michael--who manages his fighters' affairs in the US--as well as chief lieutenant Sammy Gello-ani (SGG) and ALA chief trainer Edito Villamor.

The event, according to Aldeguer, will be headlined by three world championship bouts featuring Mexican world champions against Filipino challengers.

"We are confident of getting the assistance of Cebu Governor Gwen Garcia as well as City Mayors Tom Osmena and Thadeo Ouano," said Aldeguer, who pointed out that the venue being discussed for the card are the newly-built Cebu International Convention Center or any of the big hotels in the city.

Aldeguer's ALA Boxing Gym and SGG Sports Promotion of Sammy Gello-ani have inked up a deal this year with Oscar De la Hoya's Golden Boy Promotions for the latter to promote such talents as Rey 'Boom Boom' Bautista and Z 'The Dream' Gorres.

The 'World Cup' card will be headlined by Bautista challenging WBO superbantamweight champ Daniel Ponce De Leon.

Also co-headlining are Gorres and Gerry Penalosa, who will both challenge WBO superfly champ Fernando Montiel and WBO bantam champ Jhonny Gonzalez, respectively, in a mammoth trifecta that is expected to land on HBO pay-per-view or HBO Championship Boxing.

Aldeguer, however, indicated that although his group is agreeable to the February 25 playdate, they would also not look past the possibility of holding it to a later date.

Aldeguer also hinted that they have yet to get the final approval of Golden Boy Promotions who owns the promotional rights of all fighters seeing action in the card.

Also, another factor being considered is whether the three WBO champions would be willing to face the Filipino fighters in Cebu, although Montiel had earlier announced he is ready to travel to the Philippines to fulfill his mandatory obligations against Gorres.

Cebu International Convention Center

CICC furniture display good teaser for CebuX
By Ehda M. Dagooc
The Freeman 12/09/2006

Seventeen furniture company exporters are now showcasing its top-of-the-line furniture pieces at the new Cebu International Convention Center (CICC), furnishing the 17 lounges at the center.

According to CFIF president Michael Basubas these pieces of furniture being loaned by the exporters to help the government attain an impressive hosting of the 12th ASEAN Summit is worth P1 million.

Basubas said lending these furniture items is one way of promoting Cebu-made products to the foreign delegates, who are mostly opinion makers of their respective countries.

"These are high-end export quality products that some of ASEAN leaders could use at the CICC," Basubas said.

These world-sought furniture pieces made in Cebu would be placed in CICC's bilateral rooms and minister's lounges, where important protocol meetings will be held, he added.

Aside from the 17 furniture export companies, CICC would also have some items from internationally-renowned interior designer Kenneth Cobonpue.

His items, which have been globally popular especially for some Hollywood celebrities, would be placed in strategic locations of the CICC.

He said putting these furniture items at the CICC which will be the main venue for the Summit, and at the Shangri-La's Mactan Island Resort, will also be an effective teaser of the upcoming International Furniture Exhibition Show or CebuX this coming February next year.

Each Bilateral room at the P515-million worth CICC, will be provided different theme designs.

For his company, Diamond Cane International he said, it would be bringing in oriental and tropical inspired furniture items that would cost to an approximate of P150,000 for the ambassadors lounge furnishing.

He emphasized that the furniture furnishing at the CICC and some function rooms at the Shangri-La's Mactan Island Resort, is given free of charge by the exporters through CFIF, as part of the industry's contribution to the ASEAN preparation.

"It's our expression of support for the ASEAN summit and CICC and to Gov. Gwen Garcia," he said.

CFIF is one of the export industry groups that strongly expressed support to the construction of the P515-million CICC.

He said the exporters of furniture in Cebu believe that the province would better promote its high-end products globally with the CICC, which could serve as venue for huge international exhibition attracting more potential buyers abroad.

Basubas said one of the problems faced by the furniture exporters right now, aside from the "never-ending" problem in stiff competition from other countries, is the lack of funding for international marketing for smaller furniture firms.

He said attending top furniture exhibition abroad, although is an effective marketing tool, is too expensive for the small and medium furniture exporters.

Thus, it is important to invite more foreign buyers to come to Cebu for CebuX, as this is an opportunity for smaller firms to show their products to the world buyer, with less marketing expense.

A big exhibition center such as CICC would allow local export industry to organize bigger exhibitions in Cebu that would be more accessible and less expensive to some exporters.

CICC, which is now being put in the map with ASEAN Summit, could become an attraction to the global market, Basubas concluded.

Observation as of 3:52PM Cebu Time @ IT Park. Apas Cebu City.

Rain is pouring but not enough to create floods and suspend classes. In other words, like an ordinary rainy day. Wind? It is windy though, just a bit but not strong.

Trees are still standing. Again, its just like an ordinary rainy day as of this moment. But we will have to find it out later tonight if the trend will still be like this since the storm might pass by Northern Cebu/Masbate/Northern Panay area.

Signal number 3 in Northern Cebu; Signal Number 2 in Central and Southern Cebu (including the Metro).

Don't worry, were ok. :)

CEBU--The Philippine dream of hosting an ASEAN summit ended in disarray Saturday, with rain leaking through the roof of a new convention center and delegates jamming the airport to get out of town.

After calling off the annual meeting of regional leaders under the shadow of a looming typhoon and fears of a terrorist attack, the government of President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo said the show would go on next month.

But as foreign ministry officials from her own administration privately disputed the official explanation of the weather as the reason for postponing the summit, the mood in the island resort of Cebu was gloomy.

"It would have been a big chance for the Philippines," said Jonalyn Cacal, a security worker at the luxurious seaside Shangri-La Hotel, where disconsolate workers were packing up the signs and banners meant to celebrate the summit.

"We have been preparing ourselves on security for so long," she said.

Amid reports of a pending terrorist attack, and warnings from Britain, the United States and other nations that danger was at hand, Arroyo's government insisted that Typhoon Seniang (international code name: Utor) was the only reason for calling off the summit.

"The Philippines is responsible for the safety and well-being of the summit participants in the face of inclement weather," she said in a statement, adding that the summit would be held here in January by ASEAN agreement.

"I thank the leaders for their understanding and support," she said.

But newspapers, journalists and officials questioned the official line, and some said concerns about a possible attack in Cebu were legitimate.

"The real fear was an incident on the fringes of the summit and that fear was very real," said Mike Clancy, one of the organizers of an ASEAN business and investment forum on the sidelines of the political events.

After the last-minute cancellation nations rushed in planes to transport their top officials away -- while for everyone else, chaos was the order of the day.

At the new $10-million convention center, purpose-built to house the thousands of journalists sent in to cover the summit, rain from the storm leaked through the roof and dripped from the lighting fixtures.

Large bouquets of flowers, sent to mark the meeting's success, lay toppled by the wind into puddles of water. One offered congratulations from a local building contractor.

Workers covered the lone X-ray security machine in cardboard and plastic bags to keep the water out.

At the local airport, staff hammered away on typewriters -- no computers in sight -- to make hard copies of tickets for the throng racing to get back home.

Hotels, which had ratcheted up their prices in hopes of a big payday, were besieged by frustrated media companies looking for some kind of refund.

And for the locals, there was a sense that the opportunity to present their island's best face to the international community had been lost.

"Many people are still wondering why," said Maria, a worker at the Shangri-La hotel, who declined to give her family name. She was stacking up chairs that had been intended to seat Southeast Asia's movers and shakers.

"Some say it is the storm, some say it is due to political reasons," she said. "We just don't know."

Storm Seniang is not a typhoon as of press time. If it moves at the same speed within 24 hours, it will be out of Cebu's area of responsibility.

[/url]

It was upgraded into an average typhoon in most models when it hit Guian Eastern Samar and mantained its typhoon strength when it struck Bantayan island. As of now, Bantayan is under a path of destruction.

ParkMall 168 will be owned and operated by the owners of Prince Warehouse Club.

I guess it will be another Prince Warehouse, or a "warehouse mall" perhaps. As what Architect Guanzon said, it will be a "tiangge" type of mall.

....there was group of cebuano businessmen (Star 168 Inc.) that made the proposal to develop the old Uniwide building but it was not materialize because Golden Great Value Properties Inc. has better offer ....here's the full text of that news last June:

Ouano signs deal for idle property
Sun-Star Online (http://www.sunstar.com.ph/static/ceb/2006/06/09/news/ouano.signs.deal.for.idle.property.html)
June 9, 2006

IMMEDIATELY after receiving the Mandaue City Council’s approval, Mayor Thadeo Ouano signed the lease contract with a private firm, signaling the development and completion of an unfinished building near the Cebu International Convention Center (CICC).

Councilor Wenceslao Gakit said the City Government’s lease contract with Golden Great Value Properties Inc. will be included in the Council’s agenda during its session on Tuesday for ratification.

He said the firm is in a hurry to start the project because some of the prefabricated materials that will be used for the project will still be imported.

Investment

Under the contract, the firm will lease nearly six hectares of city-owned lot, including the site of the unfinished Uniwide building, at the Mandaue reclamation area for a monthly rental of P10.50 per square meter.

The company has committed a minimum investment of P235 million for the development of the property into a commercial complex, which will be done in three phases.

The development of the property is expected to start on July 1 and will end by January 1, 2008.

The lease contract, however, further provides that notwithstanding the firm’s work schedule, the firm will develop and beautify in advance the frontage of the leased premises not later than Nov. 30.

This is in preparation for the Association of the Southeast Asian Nations (Asean) summit in December. Most of the summit meetings will be held at the CICC, which is adjacent to the leased property.

The property was earlier offered to Star 168 Inc. but Golden Great Value Properties Inc. president Carlos Co presented the mayor with “a more advantageous offer.”

Other offer

Star 168 Inc. offered to lease the same property for only P8 per square meter and its total planned investment was only P160 million. It was asked to present a better counter-offer after the City received Co’s proposal but it failed to do so, prompting the mayor to choose the second firm.

The City Council earlier allowed Ouano to negotiate with other companies that could present a more advantageous offer.

After receiving Ouano’s letter explaining the outcome of the negotiations, the City Council approved a resolution last Tuesday authorizing the mayor to sign the lease contract with Golden Great Value Properties Inc. (ROV)

South Coastal Road now open to private vehicles 24 hours
The Freeman 12/10/2006

Good news to all motorists!

Mayor Tomas Osmeña yesterday ordered the opening of the South Coastal Road, which traverses the South Road Properties, on a 24-hour basis. This is seen to benefit not only Talisay City residents but those from the southern towns who can use it as a shortcut to Cebu City.

This includes the Mambaling access road, as the lights there are already operational.

"Starting today (yesterday), the SRP will be open 24-hours. We are opening it but not to the pedestrian traffic," Osmeña clarified. Before, the SCR was only open from 6:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m.

Osmeña is confident that the Barangay Intelligence Network is capable of securing the road, this is aside from the patrol cars roving the 295-hectare SRP.

However, Osmeña clarified that motorists using the SCR are not allowed to stop and disembark anywhere along the stretch of the road in order to avoid accidents.

Last year, Osmeña issued security passes and clearances to private individuals so they can use the SCR after his fight for the ownership of the SRP which was contested by Cebu First District Rep. Eduardo Gullas, then mayor of Talisay City, who laid claim to 54 hectares of the project.

Incensed by the claim, Osmeña drove away vendors at Cebu City public markets to where known to be residents of Talisay City and closed down the SCR for Talisay City. - Garry B. Lao

Cebu IT group to open career consulting center
By Alexander Villafania
INQ7.net (http://technology.inq7.net/infotech/infotech/view_article.php?article_id=37329)
Last updated 10:26pm (Mla time) 12/09/2006

The Cebu Educational Development Foundation for Information Technology (CEDFIT) will soon be opening its Career Link Services Center (CLSC) in an effort to help graduates of IT courses among Cebu-based companies.

CEDFIT Executive Director Bonifacio Belen said in a statement that the CLSC will also have its own career linkage website where graduates can send their resumes while companies in the region can post their manpower requirements, which could be full-time jobs, contractual or on-the-job training.

Belen said the CLSC will have career counseling, job fairs, talent database, advertisements, career orientation programs and even a tracking system for graduates hired by companies in their list.

Aside from the normal resumes, the talent database will consist of the students’ grade-point average and professor affiliations, primarily to generate more relevant information from the applicants.

Meanwhile, the tracking program of the graduates aims to increase the alumni contacts database and distribute CEDFIT updates.

Belen said CEDFIT is conducting a survey on the most common jobs taken by graduates of Cebu, and the perceived needs of today’s graduates.

He said that among their other activities is the expansion of the Philippine IT General Certification Examination (Phil-IT GCE) and the Bridge courses, which standardizes the skills developed by graduates that are needed by the region’s various industries.

Recently, the second Phil-IT GCE was administered simultaneously on September 30 to 114 IT graduates of six participating CEDFIT member universities and 28 others from the private sector.

Storm whips north

EIGHT of Cebu’s northern towns took most of the lashing from typhoon Seniang yesterday as they suffered from a power blackout after a post in Bogo town caught fire.

No flights were cancelled in Mactan, but some vessels were barred from leaving Cebu port, in keeping with Coast Guard rules.

Seniang’s rains soak CICC

AS typhoon Seniang moved to the Visayas yesterday, rain also found its way inside the spanking Cebu International Convention Center (CICC).

Buckets were seen at the main entrance while some traces of water were found on the carpet at the lobby of the second floor.
Water leaks were also seen at the International Broadcast Center (IBC).

But Architect Manuel Guanzon, who designed the P515-million structure, assured that the matter would be addressed immediately.

He, however, said that leaking in buildings is “normal.”

A day after the postponement of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (Asean) Summit was announced, the broadcast media occupying booths at the (IBC) were given until last night (Dec. 9) to pack up.

Notices were posted at the IBC saying the center will cease operations by 11:59 p.m.

Many journalists were still filing stories to their respective media outfits yesterday morning but by afternoon, some media booths were already closed.

As of 4 p.m. yesterday, about seven broadcast outfits have pulled out from the IBC.

Some persons were also seen carrying their equipment out of the IBC.

Fewer people

At the exhibit hall, the decrease in the number of people going in and out was noticeable after the announcement of the resetting of the schedule of the summit.
Chanda Pañares, tourism officer of the Municipality of Daanbantayan, manned the local government unit’s booth and said there were definitely fewer people yesterday than last Friday.

She said that when the postponement of the summit was confirmed, the people at the booths were dismayed.

As of yesterday afternoon, they haven’t received official word regarding their stay at the CICC.

Pañares added that to lift their spirits a bit, they joked that the summit would go on and the typhoon has instead “postponed” its visit to Cebu.

The plenary hall was also slowly converted into a dinner hall where the party for delegates of the Asean business summit will be held.

The party, sponsored by the Mandaue City Government and the Cebu Provincial Government, was supposed to be held at the Mandaue City Hall grounds but had to be moved to the CICC because of the rain. (AAG)

.. parang ang taas ng mga street lighting poles (yung kulay puti) at saka malalapit ang distance sa isat isa. may ginamit kayang software sa pag design niyan? looks odd..seems the height is more than the width of the road (one way width) ....:)

Hehehe, so you've noticed it too. Even we are also confused as to why it's very tall (and tilted). At first we thought that it's going to be for high voltage electrical wirings but those are street lamps after all.

A city official whom we met during a Christmas Eyeball in another forum said that those were the ideas of an "architect." Even the Mayor himself at first was also confused as to what those poles (which are actually made of steel) are for. They were also a bit confused as to why it's tilted.

it's ASEAN Summit Cebu banner today. sayang, cancelled. :( hows the weather there?

It was rainy all day yesterday... I was planning to go home to Dumaguete for the weekend, but couldn't because barge and pumpboat trips and between Cebu and Negros were cancelled. Same thing with larger boats like Cokaliong and GP.

And just a few hours ago, it wasn't raining at all so I just walked out of my house to go off to church, then all of a sudden it started pouring. Really really pouring like crazy. And now I'm in an internet cafe, soaking wet.

ASEAN members agree on new summit date

Senior officials of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations have agreed to hold the gathering of leaders on the same dates in January after the meeting originally scheduled from December 10-14 in Cebu was canceled due to a typhoon, ABS-CBN News reported Sunday.

“It has been agreed upon by the senior officials that the ASEAN will be the same dates in January. Ministers arrive on the 8th, leaders on the 10th and have their [meetings] on the 11th, 12th and 13th,” said Ambassador Marciano Paynor Jr., secretary general of the ASEAN Summit Organizing Committee.

He added: “We still feel that we made the right decision in considering the safety of the delegates attending the 12th ASEAN Summit."

Paynor said the new dates have been forwarded to all ASEAN-member nations. He said that member countries have assured him that they would adjust the schedules of their leaders for the gathering.

The assurance came after reports said that Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe was scheduled for a European trip in January and will no longer be able to attend the summit. Japan is included in one of the meetings with ASEAN leaders. so Abe will still come after all

The summit was originally set this month but had to be rescheduled for January due to the onset of typhoon Seniang (international codename Utor), which is now affecting several provinces in Central Visayas and Southern Luzon.

Paynor denied that the postponement was due to the threat of terrorism and protests scheduled by activist groups.
