I have been tracking this project since inauguration, but interestingly nothing is much in print or electronic media or on internet regarding the specifications of the project at this time. But definitely down the road we will get much more on this project, let's stay put till then.
brightside. May 9th, 2008, 11:07 PM Groundbreaking has been done but no renders or other details :dunno:
PakiDoperz May 10th, 2008, 02:53 AM i have asked the live operator on dha website, he told me that nothing have been finalized yet, they are still working on the design and renders

I will not vet this statement, out of 17 a few are under construction, but this group has exhibited their commitment more then anyone else, they have brought in lot of investment in Islamabad, and cooperation from them with DHA Lahore is a very good omen. I definitely see these towers coming up in next few months.
pakboy May 12th, 2008, 08:42 AM but one thing i dont understand is why do they want to build 2 malls in such a small area, once city center is made it will crush both of them,
they mite iswell make one big one.

What is the desc of city mall, is it DHA mall you are speaking about. From the nature of Giga group projects, i dont think they are going to put any thing less ordinary. So their project getting crushed is rare chance.

3 towers are under construction (residential) but will not complete in time and they stop construction of 4 towers. If you have better information please share with us.

i posted the info few days back in the lahore thread, city center of dubai are making 200 kanal mega mall in phase 5.
giga's would not be anywhere near it, there site in phase 2 is tiny and the site in phase is good but its big.
PakiDoperz May 12th, 2008, 01:51 PM the area of phase 4 mall by giga group is not small at all, its pretty big , yes Phase 2 giga mall area is pretty small.
ABBASIA May 12th, 2008, 02:39 PM the area of phase 4 mall by giga group is not small at all, its pretty big , yes Phase 2 giga mall area is pretty small.
If it is a highrise, a small area will not matter much.

its 30 kanals, city center on 200 kanals will eat it.
ABBASIA May 12th, 2008, 05:56 PM its 30 kanals, city center on 200 kanals will eat it.
30 Kanals is huge if you wanna go vertical.
KB May 12th, 2008, 06:04 PM We'll have to wait for the renders, but yes 30 kanals should be enough for going vertical
pakboy May 12th, 2008, 06:04 PM who even bothers climbing up to go shopping, nearly all malls these days are no more then 2 storeys,
even thought 30 kanals would be big, pakistani standards but being next to city center will make it a waste, they should make just 1 big mall.
Jsultan May 15th, 2008, 12:08 PM yup that is correct... Phase 2 building will have to be a highrise since the area is small...
there is good amount of work goingon the site.... they are demolishing the existing structures at the site and marking of the piling work is underway....!!
yea one more thing.... the piles will be 70 feet deep.... if someone can tell what expected hight we see with these 70 feet piles...!!

Pakboy, I am in KL now a days, I have been to KLCC Suria (Petronas Towers) shopping mall, and all other big malls here like Mid valley and One Utama and also like Pavilion in Bukit Bintang, these are most modern shopping plazas by any standard, all of them are 6+ storey plaza and with many escalators running on each floor i dont see any problem for shoppers in these malls. So going vertical seems no problem to me. Of course being horizontal has its own advantage, but how horizontal you can go in case if you have space limitations.

Pakistan has tons of space.. this isn't Bangladesh or India.. horizontal is the way to go. The reasons for these vertical malls is not clear, but they just can't be good. One has to travel to 2-3 "malls" to get what they could easily get from one North American-type mall, so you have poor efficiency of people's time, the environment, electricity, etc.. not to mention that it's much more efficient not only for shoppers but for suppliers/warehousing/etc.. it also doesn't accommodate for impulse shopping.. out of sight, out of mind.
Good example of a proper mall is Deans Mall.. guaranteed that mall is several times more efficient for the residents of Peshawar than any of these mid-rise malls coming up in Lahore.
X-entric May 16th, 2008, 01:26 AM I dont think there is any shopping mall in Lahore to be honest. Unless you think Siddiq trade centre and PACE are malls. What we have in Lahore are miniature malls.

Agree. In fact, I don't believe there are any true malls in Pakistan. Period.
Also...on the horizontal v vertical debate, I would agree with pakboy that the "supermalls" predominantly tend to be located on no more than 2-3 floors (eg. Mall of the Emirates in Dubai, Bluewater in London, the brand new Westfield shopping centre in West Lonodn, the Beverly Center in LA etc) . There are all sorts of practical reasons for this and none more so than the psychology of shoppers and their preference to remain on one floor (irrespective of size) rather than to traipse up and down multiple floors.

This january I went to the biggest mall in Europe 'Cevahir Mall' in Istanbul. It sure was a MEGA mall, 6 floors.... so large malls can go a bit Vertical too.
There are a couple of OK malls in Karachi..... Park Towers and Dolmen mall. Atleast they can be considered basic malls.
RANA AAA May 17th, 2008, 07:25 AM Guys its PAKISTAN here things are very much different to any part of the world.we can have malls but not mega mall no one would go there pakistan is many years behind turkey to have MEGA MALL.YES we can have small mall we know its a country of poor people.

I was just saying that vertical malls can be made too. They dont necessarily have to be spread on acres.
pakboy May 17th, 2008, 07:18 PM well 6 floors is not really vertical, nearly all malls are around that.
and we are not many years behind turkey, dha has some mega malls coming up. city center is huge on 200 kanals, the one in raya is another huge one, then there is 50 kanal one at pace circle and the mabarak center mall should also be nice. the mall concept is quite new to us, we hardly had anything before musharraf came, all boulevards were filled with empty plots, then ith the economic boom they all started getting filled up with plazas and now we are going towards malls.

I think if our GDP increases by 8% every year and Turkey's GDP drops down to Zero, we will catch them in 30-40 years.
