Ahuja Towers -- Worli, Mumbai

http://img49.imageshack.us/img49/4062/01ur2.jpg

The latest skyscraper proposed for Mumbai's rapidly growing Worli skyline, Ahuja group aims to be "one of the tallest residential buildings in Mumbai."

Designed by P&T Group, Singapore, the project comprises two adjoining towers of 20,000 sq. m that I estimate will be just shy of 200m tall, complementing the other 200m+ buildings coming up in the area. The project features a 10-story carpark and has its first condo starting on the 14th floor, guaranteeing spectacular panoramic views of Mumbai and the Indian Ocean.

The design of the tower was developed from three preliminary proposals, with the last one being the basis for the final design:

The architects estimate the completion date for the tower to be in 2010.

here's a larger but granier rendering of the towers -

http://img398.imageshack.us/img398/461/india2mo2.jpg

It's from a post made in Atelier ADT architect's blog (http://atelieradt.blogspot.com/2007/10/on-going-project_2650.html) in October 2007. It also has a larger rendering of the old proposal (http://img72.imageshack.us/img72/8637/india1vs7.jpg) of the Raheja Platinum tower.

Their website - http://atelieradt.com/index2.html however has nothing to offer. Someone please double check just incase I missed out on something of our liking.

snippet from DTZ holdings (a property adviser)'s yearly results (http://www.iii.co.uk/investment/detail/?display=news&code=cotn:DTZ.L&action=article&articleid=7432044) announced on July 21:

The project management and building consultancy team also had a strong year helping major corporate clients in fitting out their new facilities around the world as well as supporting major new-build projects. In India, we have been advising on the 56-storey Ahuja Towers scheme in Mumbai. When completed in 2012, the building will be one of the tallest residential structures in India.

Inspired by the wind-filled sails of the boat docked along the Bombay coastline, this iconic residential tower culminates in two sail (like) features – taking in the views of the sea, just as the sail of the boats take in the winds, on the high sea’s. The Curved Sail’s will offer breathtaking panoramic sea / sea link views – embraced in the enclave of Bombay’s Worli Sea Face.

This iconic tower, offering the highest standards of luxurious living is slated to become home to the most affluential, dynamic and eminent individuals in the region.

Design Vision and Concept : - To create a high-rise landmark that would capture the views of the Arabian Sea to the North-West while providing for a complete nature immersed residential experience. - To create a new benchmark of ultra luxurious sky villa living for the region.

Massing Concept - Drawing inspiration from the lifestyle of the super rich, the towers evolved from the concept of exclusive villas in the sky, with lush planting and a very lavish expanse of space taking luxurious living to a new level. - The form is an abstracted interpretation of the majestic sails of the boats out at the Arabian Sea. Billowing in the sea breeze, these abstracted sails of Ahuja Towers, punctuate the skyline like beacons of architectural precision rising to more than 200 meters.

- A 10 storey podium elevates the two towers, with the first residential unit effectively starting from the 12th floor level, leaving the city bustle behind through the vertical buffer. - The 55 storey iconic building is sheathed in sleek structural glazing to envelope residential units that would be the epitome of luxurious living in this thriving Indian city. A cleft through this elegantly proportioned glass sculpture provides a view slot through interspaced landscaped decks while creating relief in the building mass and forming a pair of conjoined towers Units and Sky Terraces: - Stacked up vertically, each level provides a varied experience to the residents. - With each tower housing only one unit per floor, there are only 74 elusive residences, including 6 penthouse duplexes, in this exclusive development for the discerning handful.

- This premium development caters for a host of facilities including a business centre, a mini theatre, squash court, spa & salon, gymnasium, and all club amenities alongside an Environmental deck on the 11th Floor. - Refuge areas on the rear of the building face are beautifully landscaped and integrated within the extent of the apartment offering the luxury of green sky terraces to each unit. - The environmental deck has an infinity lap pool, Jacuzzi, multipurpose hall, landscaped deck areas along with facilities for children. - The cleft in the building mass separating the two towers is lined up with landscaped decks creating a green fissure between the glass towers.

That's actually just another tower crane but with a luffing jib instead of a trolley jib that most tower cranes have.

Technically every crane is supposed to have a counter-weight since that's what the crane uses to balance the load.
