X-posted from my thread in the international forum (http://www.skyscrapercity.com/showthread.php?t=640655)

==========================================================

One of the furthest along of the major skyscraper proposals by builders K Raheja Universal, Raheja Atlantis is already making its mark on the growing Worli area skyline.

Like most of K Raheja Universal's other couple-year old projects, the building was abruptly changed mid-design as the developers switched architects. The original proposal was not an unpleasant looking tower of 30 stories:

http://img49.imageshack.us/img49/2913/krahejaatlantisup2.jpg http://img375.imageshack.us/img375/7187/rahejaatlantislarge7kgxp9.jpg
^ The older design

Presumably, as increased FSI was allowed for the plot, the tower was changed to its current classier, glassier design. The tower is designed to reflect the undulating waves of the ocean on its form.

http://img120.imageshack.us/img120/1743/50589314kp3.gif
^ The back of the building is shown in this pre-rendering of the finalized design. Note the changes in the crown and the podium.

Raheja Atlantis now stands at 40 floors (37 floors of apartments on top of a 3 story parking garage podium), and its location near the shores of the Indian Ocean will give some pretty neat views as well as making the tower rather visible itself.

It also has an interesting green swoosh down the seaward-facing side of the building, formed by a lush placement of plants on the balconies of the apartments. Though there are two 'swooshes', Atlantis is designed so that all apartments will have some of the greenery on their decks.

As I mentioned before, the tower is well under construction. Here it is in Sept, 2007 in a photo taken by Humayunn NA Peerzada:

And a fairly recent March 10, 2008 update:

currently on 29th floor is u/c. only 11 more fl to go. This will be up & running by Dec '08.

just incredible how quickly Bombay u/c highrises are topping off. Its a far cry from legend & Imperial towers that took ages a while back.

I think you should go to their thread and check out the height in their scrapers. Not trying to be mean, but just pointing out a fact.
Nice Pics IU.
I like the design of this building because it utilizes a good amount of space.

Mumbai does indeed remind me of HK in the '80's when i lived there.
That feeling of Asian boomtown.
But even then HK was much - I was going to say richer , but thats not exactly true; loads of cash in Mumbai -more evenly spread financialy.
The infra was already 1st world & the slums were less of a proportion of the place.
Hate to say it and anyone can slag me off for being a honky imperalist , but it was just much better run then present day Mumbai. So the feel of the place was 1st world with
3rd world 'addons'.
Mumbai will be very different in 10 years and all you ex SSC forumers will be bemoaning the lost 'slow pace of life "of the noughties'"...

IndialloveJapan4ever

^^ That's completely due to British involvement with HK's Infra as they controlled HK for a much longer time.. they invested immensely in the infra of their best asian trading city... man they turned that island into a golden gem and just gave it away to china..:bash:

You sometimes wonder, how much you can actually trust the Wikis. I checked for the list of the tallest completed buildings and got a list that showed Godrej Planet at 180 mts (unlikely), RNA Mirage at 170 - ha ha, especially considering the fact that Raheja Legend which is just adjacent to this, is only 140 mts tall.

To lo bhaiyaa...pag ghungroo band meera naachi thi aur hum naache bin ghungroo kee ee ee....:ohno:

The reason is in Sun's picture you don't see the 1/3rd of the bottom of the building (it's the way the shot is taken). On the same page scroll up to IU's pic (dated Feb 6th) and you will see the difference.

Cov Boy
August 10th, 2010, 11:35 PM
Helipad is good idea but I dont think the project is exclusive enough to warrant a helipad of its own.

Unless a multi-millionaire or billionaire moves in then perhaps.

I think the development is targetted to middle-upper middle income groups but not exculsive.

The places I know that have helipads are at the Racecourse, Juhu Aerodrome, Antilia, Taj Wellington Mews & Seawind.

Bombay Boy
August 11th, 2010, 07:22 AM

Too late!

The Billionaires have got their way.

The city actually needs more helipads as its good for business. Millionaires and Billionaires wont like being stuck in traffic jams everyday.

Isn't there a proposal for a helipad station at Nariman Point?

bhargavsura

Getting a permission to build helipad in bombay is too difficult as u need the approval of navy.
