Boundary delineation is arbitrary. I think :). Or perhaps the Spanish administrators back then thought Dumaguete out as merely a government and logistics center for our province. Not much land is required to built gov't buildings on. The other towns and cities of Neg Or comprise the agricultural backbone (sugar, coconuts and rice) hence the need for them to have vast territories. Neither the Spanish nor the Americans (who later developed the city as an educational center) projected Dumaguete to grow anywhere near what it is now.

Fish 153 is one of the few Korean restaurants in Dumaguete.
Being a Korean zealot that I am I know how Korean food should taste like. So anyway, me and my friends decided to have dinner at Fish 153. I dragged them all along to experience the wonders of Korean cuisine. Korean cuisine is what you call an “acquired taste”. Other may find it a bit strange at first bite but once you get the hang of it, you just keep craving for more.
http://www.dumaguetereview.com/users_content/fckeditor/148/image/DSC_0020.jpg
Fish 153 serves a vareity of dishes that appeals to different kinds of tastes. They have pork, beef, vegan, and noodle-based dishes. The price range of their dishes are from Php100-200. Not bad huh?
http://www.dumaguetereview.com/users_content/fckeditor/148/image/DSC_0039.jpg
Korean dining is usually accompanied by “banchan” or side dishes, which is a staple of the Korean diet. There are a lot of side dishes that are available in Korean cuisine. In our case, Fish 153 served us six servings of side dishes. What’s good about them is that they have UNLIMITED servings of their side dishes and it’s for FREE. Who wouldn’t want that? My favorite ‘banchan” would be Kimchi. It’s the one with the chopsticks on the photo above.
http://www.dumaguetereview.com/users_content/fckeditor/148/image/DSC_0040.jpg
We had Mini Gimbap (Tuna) for our appetizer. It’s basically rice wrapped in seaweed wrapping and stuffed with Tuna. They taste so good and they only cost Php20/serving. They have beef, hot pepper, and tuna.
http://www.dumaguetereview.com/users_content/fckeditor/148/image/DSC_0032.jpg
Ahhh! One of my favorite dishes! This is Kimchi Bokkeum or Kimchi Fried Rice. It’s rice fried with Kimchi, topped with an Egg then sprinkled with sesame seeds. It is indeed one delightful dish! Beware, this could really be spicy. I say it’s a must try when visiting Fish 153.
http://www.dumaguetereview.com/users_content/fckeditor/148/image/DSC_0046.jpg
Another of my favorites is Jjajjang-myun or Black Bean Sauce Noodles. I really don’t know how to explain this in words. It’s an awesome dish. You just have to simply try it and you’ll know what I mean.
Fish 153. Simply Korean. Annyeong!

A big possibility...However, the number of passengers, and the number of trips, going to Siquijor is also sizable.

Alinghi November 10th, 2011, 02:04 PM Meciano Road really deserves the spill-over of commercial establishments.. it has the potential to be a secondary downtown area for Dumaguete as it links the outlying suburban barangays to the Public Market and Downtown

I disagree... the road is too narrow, and is already too crowded. More establishments would make parking difficult, and very few patronizing them. A better place would be a distance away from the current city center, maybe closer to the soon-to-be-built Dumaguete Diversion Road. Also, that road passing by Foundation, connecting Meciano road to Colon Ext. badly needs widening.

as if the rest of Dgte. roads are not the same
i see the city's growth as linear (for the time being), so it's an outward sphere of growth, not isolated pockets for the time being.. i could be wrong though

Meciano will keep growing because it is a service hub for 3 schools (FU, ACSAT and STI) and it connects the western barangays to the city core. Space is tight so it won't match the growth of downtown but newer buildings and varied businesses will keep cropping up until it's jampacked.

ritche November 10th, 2011, 05:07 PM For me Real Street going to Sibulan is the next growth area, in addition, of course to the Dumaguete Business Park...The area near Foundation, ACSAT, until Real Street is a growth area, only roads there need widening. The area in the periphery of St Paul's is also a growth area...Remember, we are a university town, and most economic activities are derived from the consumption of students and related population, extending to the BPO and related fields.
Looking back at history of Dumaguete, did you know that Cang's started the growth of the former Alfonso XIII Street (now renamed Perdices)?. When it put up a department store in the area, smaller stores followed, then came Lee Plaza and Jollibee. Of course it helped that Silliman is along that area. Now, Cang's put up its shopping complex in Real Street, and that area suddenly became alive with business activities. In a sense, we can consider Cang's as a pioneer establishment wherein it starts the growth of an area...

The total number of IT and BPO firms located in Duma, ranging from 10-man operations to the biggest multinationals, is now 30.

it's not yet a formal club, more of a casual gathering of running enthusiasts.. anyone can just join and tag along.. just pay the minimal amount of fees, usually P10 on a regular run (night runs are done every Thurs. while morning runs are every Sat.). i tagged along with the group a couple of times before they were even this big.. here is their Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/groups/109744809098483/)

Bounce n bounce is still alive and kicking, dems. Imo fave tambayan? Hehe. I think Globe RPD will be following their newer business center formats wherein customer service is more personalized. People are free to play with new gadgets and store layout is circular like the ones in Globe ACC, MOA, Trinoma, Megamall, etc..... Not sure though. But the size of their new business office tells me it will be hehe

MOUNTAIN BIKING
Unknown to many in this city of Gentle People there are two brothers and a cousin who defy gentleness when sitting on a downhill mountain bike and racing down treacherous trails at speeds that reach 80km per hour. Dumaguete is home to the brothers Wendel and JR and cousin Joey Barba who reign supreme in the Philippines in the sport of Downhill Mountain Bike racing.
Since 2002 the name Barba has become synonymous with national champion and in 2007 it was a Barba who earned the Philippines its first gold medal during the SEA Games in Thailand. These international athletic icons are pride of Negros Oriental and their accomplishments have brought the best downhill racers throughout the Philippines to try out at their practice course. This course can be found starting at the Camp Lookout, Silliman Grounds in Valencia.
Located 550 meters above sea level and surrounded with lush green forest, it is perfect for mountain bike downhill competitions.

ritche November 14th, 2011, 01:26 PM Dumaguete can easily now become the Fun Run capital. Every week, there is a fun run, usually at night. Every run is sponsored by any willing org or company. A while ago, the fun run was sponsored by BSP-Dgte. Other than these weekly runs, there is also at least twice a month large-scale fun runs organized by big organizations. I'm getting into this frenzy. It's really a fun way of socializing and getting fit and healthy.. :)
This coming Nov 20, FU is organizing DAM2011. Will be upgrading to 10.5km. And by Nov 27, another 10.5km run sponsored by the Parish Youth Council. Sweat, sweat, sweat. Lami kaayo ang pamaol after.. Hehe. Then pamasahe dayun. Kalamee.. These and all that for the love of running.. Apil nya mo, guys..:)
I just paid my DAM registration today...Race kit to be picked up on Thursday. Too bad wala silay counter/kiosk sa Robinsons. It would have been more convenient.
I guess this weekly run could be promoted as a tourism event by the city government wherein we can attract running enthusiasts from other places in the country and even abroad visiting the city and interact with the locals while running the city streets. Aside from the place, what makes travel interesting is interacting with the locals that have the same interests as you do...

ponsing1983 November 14th, 2011, 02:22 PM question @ritch:
In 2007, Bayawan had 101,391 people. In 2010, it registered 122,478 inhabitants. That's a growth rate of 20.8% in 3 years. What's fueling this growth spurt? It couldn't be sugar coz the other sugar cities in the island didn't grow as fast during the same period. Where did those migrants come from? In a few years, Bayawan will outpace Dumaguete to become the province's most populous city.
ponsing1983 November 14th, 2011, 02:29 PM Meanwhile, Duma added 17,078 heads, growing by 14.67% in 3 years (from 116,392 to 133,470).

That is probably because of growth spurt, Bayawan being a new city...New infrastructures were built, new businesses put up...In other words people are now seeing Bayawan as a viable urban growth area where before this perception was clearly absent...
When in Bayawan, I could see and interact with people coming from the neighboring island of Cebu settling in this once sleepy town, and even coming from as far as Pampanga...People from Mindanao are buying lands in the mountainous areas to cultivate and plant rubber trees, etc.
The land area of Bayawan is more than 10 times the size of Dumaguete...It should be more populous, that's why putting the airport between Dumaguete and Bayawan, in the town of Siaton is a strategic move...Bayawan could support a population of more than 200,000 and still have plenty of room for more...

Sorry, it's a bit dark. I entered the mall just 5 minutes before closing time so most flood lights at the atrium were already turned off.
However, there were still some curious folks (including me :D ) who were still at the business center. The CSRs were still entertaining us, though.

Robinsons is now turning to fufilling its goal, to become a regional mall...And it will happen more with the opening of the public utility vehicles terminal as it will become a transit point for anybody arriving in the city and getting public transportation, and even an area where one can park his/her vehicle and take a public transport in getting around the city...Everything will be there soon!
Terminal will be operational 3rd quarter of Next year right?.......
I am looking forward to that... but I hope that is Only intended for the PUV/PUJ/PUB coming in and out from the southern part of the City....

There is a big touchscreen pad for Globe's plan offerings where everyone can use.. Payments are made at the back portion. Dako gyud siya.
