Excellent compilation, Migs..as always. Ka nindot sa Mt. Talinis jud...by the way, I suggest i-merge unta ang Siquijor thread diri sa ato. For the ff. reasons:

1. It used to be part of Neg Or
2. Politically and economically, it is closely linked with Neg Or
3. There's not a single active forumer from there
4. Dumaguete is the main jump off point for tourists to Siquijor
5. Dumaguete is the primary commercial hub for Siquijodnons
6. Joint promotion of the 2 provinces will help boost tourist numbers
7. We have a DGT forumer who was born there :)

I highly recommend the brown sand beach of FuntaSea Basay, it's unspoiled, quiet and the depth is perfect for swimming. More huts are under construction to accommodate the increasing influx of tourists in the area. Wala lang koy pics sa beach, my battery died when I got there...

And did you notice that there are several beach resorts being constructed near this area? And it seems they are pretty large scale...One under construction beach resort in Basay even has a parking lot on the other side of the road while the resort is being constructed along the coast...

Well that depends on Robinsons...maybe now new recruits would be accommodated by Robinsons Dumaguete for their training since may existing mall na. Maybe those still sent for training here are undergoing medical exams in our hospitals also. So all in all if mag push thru there are 4 Robinsons Supermarket in the island of Negros alone. I hope so robinsons will build its Cybercenter too in Dumaguete to increase potential areas for expansion and relocation of BPO's...Southern Negros Occ, Siquijor, Southern Cebu, Misamis Occ and Zamboanga del Norte will provide additional workforce for Dumaguete's robust BPO growth :banana::banana::banana:

DGT is a convenient choice cguro for ZaNorteans who don't want to live too far from home (2 hrs lang man ang travel) but I wish the big BPO firms would look past the security warnings issued by the West for Mindanao and invest in Dipolog, Ozamiz and other smaller urban centers there. Those cities can very well sustain their own industries. DGT is ideal for a Samboanon or Siquijodnon siguro who wants to work in a call center and wishes to go home regularly. If everyday mopauli, pwede kaayo ...DGT is only 20-25 mins away from Santander and 35 minutes from Larena, Siquijor compared with close to 1 hr for Bais, 2 hrs for Bayawan and 4 hrs for Canlaon City...

URC to open biofuel plant in PH, factory in Burma
By: Doris C. Dumlao
Philippine Daily Inquirer

Universal Robina Corp. of the Gokongwei group is building a bioethanol plant at its sugar milling complex in Negros Oriental, and will soon open a new factory in Burma.

During their annual meeting late Wednesday, URC shareholders approved an amendment to the company’s charter, allowing the food and commodity conglomerate to engage in ethanol production as a secondary purpose.
Lance Gokongwei, URC president, told reporters after the meeting that the company had started construction of a $27-million bioethanol plant in Manjuyod, Negros Oriental, the site of its sugar mill Universal Robina Sugar Milling Corp. (Ursumco). The bioethanol facility can produce 100,000 liters of fuel a day.

Once the bioethanol plant becomes operational later this year, Gokongwei said, it would contribute a little over 1 percent to group-wide revenues, which in 2011 amounted to P67.2 billion—up 16.4 percent from the previous year.
Also, URC has been expanding its footprint abroad. Its international operations currently account for about a third of its business, and may grow as big as its domestic operations in about five years, Gokongwei said.

In fact URC wanted to open the country's first petrochemical complex in Manjuyod many years before, and it did not push through due to lack of incentives, only to push through many years after, this time in Batangas. It is understandable since one of the Gokongwei elders is one of the earliest alumni of Silliman, the reason their heart belongs to this island/province...

John Gokongwei Sr., the grandfather of Lance Gokongwei, is a Sillimanian. he is also related to the Uytengsu's of Dumaguete, the owner of Alaska Milk Corp.

Lance was the speaker during my commencement at Silliman, and he spoke of very fondly about his grandfather's dreams and contributions to Negros Oriental.

14 Academic Programs Granted Highest Accreditation Status

A total of 14 academic offerings of Silliman University received the highest accreditation distinction from two independent private accrediting associations.

Level IV Accredited Status was granted to seven graduate degrees by the Association of Christian Schools, Colleges and Universities-Accrediting Agency, Inc. (ACSCU-AAI) for the period April 2012 to April 2016, while seven undergraduate programs received from the Philippine Accrediting Association of Schools, Colleges and Universities (PAASCU) its equivalent Level IV accreditation status.

The seven graduate programs are Master of Arts in English, Master of Arts in History, Master of Arts in Sociology, Master in Public Administration, Master of Science in Nursing, Master of Science in Social Work and Master of Science in Psychology. The undergraduate degrees are Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Science, Bachelor of Science in Psychology, Bachelor of Mass Communication, Bachelor of Science in Nursing, Secondary Education and Elementary Education.

Level IV accreditation status is the highest form recognition of an academic program’s strength with respect to its curriculum, facilities, faculty, linkages, and the extent to which it is able to carry out the institutional tri-focal function of instruction, research and extension.

Silliman’s recent achievement in the area of accreditation reinforces its being one of few universities in the Philippines granted Full Autonomous Status by the Commission on Higher Education (CHED), allowing the University to develop programs without CHED's prior approval. Such honor is only given to academic institutions with proven track record in education and consistent competitive performance in licensure examinations. CHED has also previously designated Silliman as a Center of Excellence in Teacher Education and Nursing Education and as a Center of Development in Accountancy, Biology and Information Technology Education.

Early this year, the University also became the first and only school in the Visayas to have received Institutional Accreditation from the Federation of Accrediting Agencies of the Philippines. Institutional Accreditation is the highest distinction awarded a higher education institution, in consideration of its number of high-level accreditation of its individual academic programs and the result of an overall evaluation of the quality of a university's facilities, services and faculty.

Silliman continues to be the school in the Philippines with the highest number of accredited programs.

DUMAGUETE City is a reader’s top choice for a livable city. Photo from http://soloflighted.com

(Conclusion)
The previous weeks, Inquirer Property revealed the Philippine cities ideal for young professionals, as chosen by several property analysts. These cities were: Metro Cebu, where the investments and opportunities have consistently been pouring in due to its strategic location; Taguig (Bonifacio Global City), whose city chic, modern and sporty qualities attract the international community; Makati, the “traditional business district” where most businesses thrive and mature property developments are located; Muntinlupa (Alabang), where the first live-work-play concept was put to action; The Clark-Subic corridor, for the availability of developable land, as well as a superior level of infrastructure links (air, land and water transport); Santa Rosa, Laguna, the investors’ favorite; and Davao City, for its relatively secure environment.
Inquirer Property also laid down the criteria for the ideal cities, as explained by property analysts. These are: the cost of living index; affordability of rental and home ownership; a well master-planned community; accessibility; job opportunities; connectivity; security and rapid emergency response; empowerment of property buyers, environment and air quality; diversity for global market; and policies to attract outside capital.

In the conclusion of the series, Inquirer Property has sifted through readers’ e-mail. Now, in no particular order, here are the most-liked cities, fresh from the inbox: Dumaguete, Ormoc, Cebu, Lucena City, Manila, San Carlos (Negros Occidental), Cagayan de Oro, Puerto Princesa and Bacolod.

More for less in Ormoc City
“I have lived in Manila and Cebu and the fast-paced lifestyle really eats up your time. Here in the provinces, you have more time to do what you want—be it spending time with your friends and family, your hobbies, interest, health, business. All these at a fraction of a cost if you do it in Manila or Cebu,” wrote a male resident of Ormoc City in his late 30s (name withheld upon request), who has four kids. He lists his priorities as “personal time,” schools, peace and order, Internet connectivity (a must, because he engages in online stock market trading) and proximity to major cities.

“Right now, I live in Ormoc, but ideally I would want to live in Dumaguete City. It’s also my first choice followed by Ormoc, Cebu, then Manila. I have lived in all four of these cities.”

The best urban livable cities are Cebu, Cagayan de Oro and Davao. The other ideal cities with the best urban lifestyle options are Bacolod and Dumaguete.

Ok, so this got me thinking. A supermarket requires a wide, spacious area. Isnt that bldg not wide enough for a supermarket much more Robinsons Supermarket? Well unless if they are ok with the space so its going to be a small supermarker (smaller than the one at RPD) unless they will expand the bldg towards the back... are they getting the whole bldg including the upper levels? If so, what are they going to do with it? A Robinsons Cybergate is much more fitting for that kind of bldg, IMO.

Whole building jud ilang i-occupy so pwede kaayo ang multi-level nga supermarket...the bldg is 4-levels including the basement, right? Pero ka nice unta if Cybergate para dako jud og tabang sa ciudad.

Their 3-year contract didn't expire yet but the building's owner decided to sell the bldg to the Lhuilliers (the Cebuana L. group)...what a waste :ohno: ka-pangit sa Blue Monkey Grill. I hope ilang i-upgrade ilang restaurant when they move there. Please lang basun makabasa ang mga tag-iya. A restaurant that was well-patronized by people nag-close coz you bought the bldg so please give us something good in its place. The Lhuilliers planned to construct a building on the existing Monkey Grill site, di ba? Basin madayun na.

Most of the restaurants along the boulevard (if not all) are doing well. It's rather unfortunate that two well-loved establishments had to close because the buildings they were renting were sold. Most of the structures there are owned by old Spanish families and perhaps one family or two needed cold hard cash fast. Our local Chinoy businessmen and outsiders are more than happy to lap those prime properties up.

It is still being deliberated if they will install fountains in other areas of Robinsons Dumaguete (aside from the alfresco, such as the facade and the side area where there are plants) or not...Well maybe it will materialize but maybe it depends on immediate financial performance hehehhe :)

Local execs slam survey showing Maguindanao population is smaller than claimed
By Edwin Fernandez

COTABATO CITY, Philippines—Local executives are up in arms against the results of a revalidation survey conducted by the National Statistics Office that shows the province has less people than what its officials had previously reported.

In 2007, NSO records showed that the province had a population of 1,273,715 but the revalidation survey conducted in the middle of 2010 showed that Maguindanao has a population of only 944,718 or a difference of 328,997.
Razulden Mangelen, Maguindanao NSO chief, said it took them almost two years to make the census result public because they wanted to make sure it was accurate.

Mangelen admitted that the revalidation was a sensitive issues and that local executives would not be happy over it as it would reduce their share of the national government’s tax collections.

“We were also surprised,” he said.
Shariff Aguak, the turf of former Maguindanao governor Andal Ampatuan Sr., was among the towns that saw a marked decrease in population figures after the revalidation. From its 2007 population of 70,340, the town now has an official population of only 35,964 or a decrease of 34,376 as a result of the 2010 revalidation.

Parang town, which had a population of 102,247 in 2007, now has 73,247 inhabitants.

An official of the NSO regional office for the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao, who asked for anonymity, said the 2007 figure might have been accurate because of inward migration. But then, he added, the population figures may have been deliberately manipulated.

“There could be other reasons, like increasing the population to also increase the Internal revenue Allotment (IRA) and for election purposes,” the official said in defending his manipulation theory.

Mayor Tocao Mastura of Sultan Kudarat town, which now has a smaller population, said the new NSO data would greatly affect public service.
Maguindanao Governor Esmael Mangudadatu admitted with the reduced population, Maguindanao’s monthly IRA of P80 million would likely be reduced by as much as P30 million per month.

He said the revalidation results were justified because in the towns of Datu Hofer and Datu Unsay, both of which were created under the Ampatuan administration, the population was indeed bloated.

Sounds familiar?? Hopefully are population was understated not overstated.. so 2010 was the more accurate survey..

Murag accurate lang siguro ang figures nato bai coz overall, a total of 12,000+ people were added to DGT and the 3 surrounding towns. But I noticed the figure for some cities dako kaayo ang jump from 2007 to 2010 even if there's no evidence of large-scale migration to such places.

Don't mind them.. At least we are doing what is right.. we don't need to bloat population figures to get a bigger IRA.. in fact those "extra" IRA usually goes to the pockets of those falsifying the figures..

Integrity should be not be taken for granted.. Karma is always there

12 courses given highest accreditation status

A total of 12 academic offerings of Silliman University received the highest accreditation distinction from two independent private accrediting associations.

Level IV Accredited Status was granted to five graduate degrees by the Association of Christian Schools, Colleges and Universities-Accrediting Agency, Inc. for the period April 2012 to April 2016, while seven undergraduate programs received from the Philippine Accrediting Association of Schools, Colleges and Universities its equivalent Level IV accreditation status.

Early this year, the University also became the first and only school in the Visayas to have received Institutional Accreditation from the Federation of Accrediting Agencies of the Philippines. Institutional Accreditation is the highest distinction awarded a higher education institution, in consideration of its number of high-level accreditation of its individual academic programs and the result of an overall evaluation of the quality of a university’s facilities, services and faculty.

Pons, Nicko, Alinghi, Miguel, Ritche, rmb ug uban pa.... pa reserve na mo kay hapit na jud sya ma hurot....hahahahha....The most expensive Residential Resort in Oriental Negros.....true?.....aw....

I think the reason why there's still available lots on the first phase is the location. Lots 1-3, is the lower most portion although malapit sa entrance, but walang view. same thing with lots 81-82, which is blocked yung view. Lots 74which is behind my property, is a cliff, and Silliman was about to buy it but I don't know what happened. I don't know how much is the price right now per sq/m. Last 2009 there was a promo price of Php 2,500 per sq/m sa regular lots and Php 2,750 sa corner lots pero cash. And I was able to avail of it. But theres one thing that I would like to clarify kung matapos na at mag meeting yung mga homeowners. May homeowners fee, which is Php 1.00 per sq/m. Yung lot ko is more than 1000 sq/m. So I will be paying more than Php 1000. While yung iba is only 500 - 600 sq/m yung lot nila and they will be paying Php 500 -600 only. Is this fair? But anyway, I'm so happy with the developments and thank you sa mga updates. More Power to Dumauete and Valencia!!!

Which one, Amorita? Not sure, Nick. Nakastay mi didto before but fortunately, gilibre lang ko; pwede siguro mo-dine lang didto without checking in. Reasonably-priced lang sad ang pagkaon. Trip lang nako ganihang buntag, took the 7:30 trip para maligo sa Alona and I just got back hehe...

Anything wrong with lots 87 to 91? What's at the back of these lots? Is it true you have to build a house within 5 years of buying the land. As a landowner, do you have to pay to maintain the pool? Thanks.

In any economic situation, the basic fundamentals of the economy is always the basis for capitalists to invest in a particular place. That is why we are not threatened if people say they have gone ahead of us, we know where we stand: the only small city that can attract bigger investments that even HUCs can only dream of...

Anything wrong with lots 87 to 91? What's at the back of these lots? Is it true you have to build a house within 5 years of buying the land. As a landowner, do you have to pay to maintain the pool? Thanks.

Lots 87-91, it looks like they're connected to lot 74. It was not on the plan when I bought my property back in 2009. My lot sits on the edge of the cliff and lot 74 is yung cliff mismo. So, I guess, it's on the lower terrain. And there's a lot of coconut trees down below and its tree top is at the level my property. But that was back in 2009. I haven't been back home since then. I guess they've added those lots when they opened the 2nd phase...As stated in there contract, houses will be built within 5 yrs after you purchased and it has to be worth Php2 million and up. And the 10% of the total price is due after a year when the lot title is ready. But until this time, I'm still waiting for them to inform me that my lot title is ready and I have no idea how long will take...Anyway, while we're still waiting, we don't know about the pool use since we don't have any formal meeting yet. Same thing with the zipline since they said, it's gated and exclusive community.

Tagbilaran deserves to have an SM kasi maraming tourista doon

Personally I don't mind which city gets an SM first, for me that is a non issue. But what is bad is when people use that to start issues against other cities, or other forumers, or if it becomes an area where people start city vs city quarrels...Let's be mature forumers here...
