^^there might be an error in the amount. that should have been in dollars...putting up an ethanol facility runs in billions of pesos.
That's in $$$...error in facts. In fact the first news that came out in April was also in $$$...Look at this article: http://www.mb.com.ph/articles/360755/sec-approves-urc-plans-to-go-into-fuel-ethanol-production
and this http://www.tribuneonline.org/business/20120419bus6.html
URC is also putting up ethanol plant Manhuyod, Negros Oriental, part of its Orsungco Sugar Mill. It has already commenced construction and will be operating by latter part of 2013. Development cost is approximately $27 million for over a period of five year and will have a capacity 100,000 liters a day.
ritche May 30th, 2012, 03:33 PM SEC Approves URC Plans To Go Into Fuel Ethanol Production
MANILA, Philippines --- The Securities and Exchange Commission has approved the amendment of the Articles of Incorporation of Universal Robina Corporation (URC) to allow the firm to engage in the business of production of fuel ethanol.
URC president Lance Gokongwei said URC is investing about $27 million for the construction of an ethanol plant in Mahhuyod, Negros Oriental as part of the firm’s URSUMCO sugar mill.
He said the ethanol plant should be operational by the latter part of 2013 with a capacity of 100,000 liters a day adding that the move will complement the firm’s sugar milling business as it will be using molasses which are by-products of its sugar milling operations.

MANILA - The maker of C2 tea drink and Jack'n'Jill snack foods obtained the approval of the Securities and Exchange Commission to venture into ethanol production.
Universal Robina Corp. told the local bourse that the SEC cleared an amendment to its secondary purpose to include "the production of fuel ethanol and engage in such activity."
The Gokongwei-led company has started the construction of a $27 million ethanol facility in Negros Oriental near its sugar mill. The ethanol plant will begin operating by the end of next year, producing 100,000 liters a day.
The venture into ethanol production is seen to complement URC's sugar business and capitalize on the opportunities presented by the Biofuels Act of 2006, which requires oil firms to blend their products with 10 percent locally-produced ethanol this year.

DUMAGUETE CITY, Philippines – Hometown teen archer Marie Crizabelle Merto shamed two Olympic aspirants as she conquered the women’s open recurve competitions in devastating fashion yesterday in the POC-PSC National Games at the City High School here.
Determined to retain her crown on home soil, 17-year-old Merto shot a high 647 (320-327) in the Qualification Round (Double 70) to nose out nationals Edwina delos Reyes 614 (295-319) and Rachelle Anne Cabral-dela Cruz 599 (294-305), both of NCR, for the first mint.
Delos Reyes and Dela Cruz are part of a six-man Phl team seeking to earn berths to London in next month’s World Cup in Utah, the final qualifying event for archery.
An incoming Computer Engineering freshman at Silliman U, Merto actually showed better marksmanship than the champion in the men’s open recurve Qualification Round, NCR’s Paul Marton Dela Cruz, who had a winning 142.
Three-time Palaro princess Merto then trounced Delos Reyes in the Olympic Round (set system) finale, 6-0, to complete her dominance and make a strong case for her own Olympics aspirations.

At last, a real and unpretentious Italian pasta joint, gelateria & cafe in Duma. They have the widest selection of pasta dishes. From fettuccines, raviollis, pennes, to the hard to find tortellinis. Their pastas are made in-house from scratch with organic ingredients. Visit their gelateria for your real italian gelato treat at 45php a scoop, also made from scratch straight from their kitchen. Cheapo. An Italian staple, Risotto, which is a really hard to find Italian dish in the country, is also served in four different variants. The owner, an Italian expat, is actually the grandson of the inventor of pasta alfredo and has cooked for big personalities such as Clint Eastwood, Sinatra, Carson and US pesidents, Reagan, Eisenhower and Nixon. Defintely something legit!

Just one of the reviews:
“Great food, great dive operation, great staff - great place”
Reviewed February 26, 2012
Atmosphere is one of the most relaxing and best run resorts I have ever visited. My wife and I rented an apartment which was spacious, comfortable and quiet. The grounds are beautiful and very well maintained. The infinity pool has beautiful views of the sea (most rooms do not) and most unusually had enough comfortable lounge chairs so there was no need to worry about arriving early to secure a spot. The spa is also very nice and offers an assortment of massages, etc. Perhaps the biggest surprise is the high quality of the restaurant. Every single meal we had during our 8 night stay was terrific - not an easy accomplishment for a remote resort.
The dive operation was the best run I have ever seen. There were three separate dive choices throughout each day. Many times I was the only diver on the boat and thus had a personal guide. You never have to touch your gear as the crew does it all for you. There are plenty of nearby macro/muck diving sites and several times a week there were day trips to Apo Island to dive the healthy reefs there or to a site to snorkel with whale sharks (during the correct season of course.)
The management also cares about the community and through the Giving Forward program supports a soup kitchen and sustainable income programs. I hope that some day Atmosphere bans smoking near the pool but other than that (and for those who mind the rocky beach) this is a real slice of heaven.

ritche June 9th, 2012, 03:12 PM A whiff of Italy in Dumaguete
Pasta King is now open in Dumaguete City. Finally. I don’t know when they started to open, but I was waiting for them to open for like, ages. It was Friday night and a friend of mine wanted to eat in Chin Loong (a Chinese restaurant) when we passed by Pasta King. When I saw the open doors and the bright lights, I immediately pulled my friend inside (I didn’t feel like eating Chinese anyway).
When we stepped in, most of the tables were already occupied (it was a Friday evening, after all). The place was bustling. Waitresses in yellow T-shirt, shorts and sneakers were flitting from one table to another. More customers were walking in behind us. We immediately snagged an empty table near the cashier when a foreigner (I assume he was one of the owners) walked up and placed two menus on our table.
http://chellelandia.files.wordpress.com/2012/06/collage-1.jpg?w=448&h=448
Now, I have to admit. I’m not that familiar with Italian dishes. I love pasta, but my education on cusina italiana is limited to carbonara, spaghetti, and pizza. Although I tried my hand on cooking Spaghetti Bolognese once. But I don’t know if the outcome was how it was supposed to taste.
So I chose to order for my first meal in Pasta King, the Spaghetti alla Bolognese (Meat Ragu Sauce). I wanted a comparison to how mine tasted. My friend ordered Polpette de Came (Italian Hamburger with BBQ Sauce) paired with Patate al Forno (Oven Roasted Potatoes) as the side dish.
Don’t you just love how Italian dishes sound delicious already?
According to our waitress, the spaghetti dishes take only about 5 minutes to be served. Actually, I initially asked for Fettucine con Polo (with Breast of Chicken in Cream Sauce) but she said that would take about 10 to 15 minutes. One reason why I switched to Spaghetti alla Bolgnese instead.
As we waited for our orders, I checked out the restaurant interior, which was a combination of wood and steel. A blown-up photo of former US President Ronald Regan accented a panel dividing the eating area from the restrooms. Similar photos of other known personalities (I recognized Muhammad Ali behind the cashier) were also plastered on the walls of the main dining area. The kitchen area is open; you can see the kitchen staff going about preparing food. The mood is, overall, friendly and cozy – from the muted lighting to the dark color palette.
http://chellelandia.files.wordpress.com/2012/06/145_2448.jpg?w=880http://chellelandia.files.wordpress.com/2012/06/collage-2.jpg?w=880
I expected the decoration to be more charmingly Italian, like paintings or pictures of vineyards and a color palette of cream and red wine. I was looking forward to furnishings that would conjure Tuscany and Sicily. But these were sadly missing, as the owners opted for a more simple and understated decor. I hope they would also utilize the surrounding area outside the restaurant, maybe set up tables and chairs under umbrellas, for customers to dine cenare al fresco.
Pasta King is jointly owned by German Peter Wolfgang Schlicht, a foodie and traveler who’s been to wine regions in Germany, Italy, France and Australia, and Italian chef Andreino De Santis, who happens to be the godson of Alfredo Di Lelio (the Alfredo who invented Fettucine Alfredo). According to their website, Chef de Santis has cooked for celebrities like Frank Sinatra and former US presidents like Reagan, Dwight Eisenhower, and Richard Nixon (which explains the photos on the walls). You can read more about him here. I can’t believe a chef of his stature has chosen to “semi-retire” in our small city.
When our orders arrived, they were, as I guessed, in portions bigger than Filipinos are used to (think Gabby’s Bistro, where one order is like two meals combined). My bolognese (pictured on the left below) looked nothing like the one I cooked. Fortunately, it tasted nothing like it, too!
http://chellelandia.files.wordpress.com/2012/06/collage-3.jpg?w=880
I’m not a food writer nor have I tasted authentic Italian cuisine before. All I know is that rich flavors burst in my mouth when I forked in my first taste of their Spaghetti alla Bolognese. It wasn’t too sweet (the way Filipinos like their spaghetti) nor was it too garlicky. It was flavorful that I kept eating and eating until there was nothing left on my plate! Diet be darned.
I couldn’t help but taste my friend’s order of Italian burger. It was crisp on the outside, but oh so chewy and juicy on the inside. (How do they do that?! Whenever I fry burger patties, I could never come up with that crisp-yet-juicy combo.) The taste is bold, rich, and heavy. This is one meat you’ll want to pair with red wine.
If you need more cheese or want a little more heat on your dish, just let one of their perky waitresses know and they’ll bring over a bowl of cheese which they will spoon over your pasta or ground pepper right on your plate.
Proof of the pasta is in how empty the plate is after the eating, don’t you agree?

DUMAGUETE CITY, June 12 (PNA) — The proposal of the Negros Oriental Tourism Council (NOTC) to transfer the venue of the Buglasan Festival 2012 from Sidlakang Negros Village here to the Capitol grounds was terminated after majority of the local government units turned it down due to impracticality and budget constraints.
Governor Roel Degamo, along with NOTC Chairman Dr. Nichole Elman and Provincial Tourism officer Myla Abellana, discussed the idea to the mayors and tourism officers who were present during a consultation meeting.

Alinghi June 13th, 2012, 12:47 PM PDOT, CEB push for more Korea tourist arrivals with YEOSU Expo
http://www.noodls.com/viewNoodl/1470...-with-yeosu-ex
The Philippines' largest national flag carrier, Cebu Pacific (PSE:CEB) partners with the Philippine Department of Tourism (PDOT) in the ongoing Yeosu Expo 2012 in Yeosu, South Korea, which runs until August 12, 2012.
An airline partner of the Philippine Pavillion, CEB shows its full support to tourism efforts by providing tickets, tour package rates and exposure to expo organizers, talents and travel agents throughout the three-month expo duration. It operates thrice daily flights from the Philippines to Seoul (Incheon) and eight weekly flights to Busan.
"As our top source of visitor traffic, the Korean market is of utmost importance to the Philippines' hospitality industry. Koreans accounted for nearly a quarter of the archipelago's tourism arrivals last year and they have been our number one market since 2006," said Department of Tourism Secretary Mon Jimenez.
PDOT reports indicate that 925,000 Koreans visited the Philippines in 2011, a 25% increase from the previous year. Meanwhile, CEB flew more than 380,000 passengers to and from South Korea, a 51% passenger increase compared to 2011.
"The Yeosu Expo has a marine sustainability theme, which is perfect for the Philippine islands' inherent wealth in coastal and marine treasures. We are investing in a principal site in the Pacific Ocean Zone to best capture over 80,000 average daily expo visitors," added Jimenez.
PDOT's Yeosu Expo participation is just one initiative to reach 2 million Korean arrivals by 2016. CEB seat sales as low as 50% off, lowest year round air fares as low as KRW99,000 (PHP3,999), and creative tour packages, also play a part in stimulating travel to the country.
"Despite their relative affluence, Koreans appreciate value-for-money fares in their purchase of air tickets. Similarly, the proliferation of Korean operators and establishments is bringing down rates that appeal to even more travelers," Jimenez said.
CEB, for its part, highlights various Philippine destinations to Yeosu Expo visitors, such as Busuanga (Coron), Cebu, Boracay, Bohol, San Jose (Apo Reef), Dumaguete (Apo Island), and Puerto Princesa (Tubbataha Reef).
"The Cebu Pacific team is excited to work closely with PDOT and other government agencies in promoting the Philippines' world-class dive sites and island destinations. It will also continue to offer the lowest fares from South Korea direct to Manila and Cebu so more Koreans can visit and explore the country," said CEB VP for Marketing and Distribution Candice Iyog.
The Philippine exhibits will carry the theme "Islands of Diversity, Seas of Connectivity" to entice tropical holiday seekers, honeymooners and other special interest groups such as divers and beach enthusiasts, which make up a majority of Korean tourists. More expo information can be found at www.7107.co.kr/philexpo2012/default.aspx.
CEB currently operates 10 Airbus A319, 20 Airbus A320 and 8 ATR-72 500 aircraft. Its fleet of 38 aircraft - with an average age of 3.6 years - is the largest aircraft fleet in the Philippines. Between 2012 and 2021, Cebu Pacific will take delivery of 22 more Airbus A320 and 30 Airbus A321neo aircraft orders. It is slated to begin long-haul services in the 3rd quarter of 2013.
In its 16th year of operations, CEB had flown over 60 million passengers. It provides access to the most extensive network in the Philppines, with 32 domestic and 19 international destinations. The airline also remains a pioneer in the Philippine aviation industry by being the first to offer web check-in, self check-in, e-ticketing and Lite Fares.

Pugad ng Pawikan
Part II

THE Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) is planning to increase the terminal fee of the Dumaguete Airport from P30 to P150.
Dumaguete Airport Manager Veronica Chuang said it is high time to adjust the rate to shoulder the increasing expenses to run the airport. She added that the last increase of the terminal fee was more than 20 years ago.
She said the airport is spending more than P1 million a month, including the salary of the airport employee.
The airport is also paying P260,000 to P280,000 a month for power bills, she said.
Chuang stressed that Dumaguete airport has an average income of P23,000 a day or P690,000 to P700,000 a month.
At present, the airport has ongoing projects amounting P75 million to expand the airplane parking area and asphalting of runway. (Victor L. Camion)

ritche June 18th, 2012, 02:38 PM Australian scientist impressed with Apo Island’s coral reefs
By Judy Flores-Partlow
DUMAGUETE CITY, June 8 – The convenor of the 12th International Coral Reef Symposium (ICRS) scheduled next month in Cairns, Australia commended on Friday the sustainable management and the pristine state of coral reefs at the world renowned dive destination, Apo Island, in Dauin, Negros Oriental.
Prof. Terence Hughes, ICRS 2012 convenor, was speaker here Friday at Silliman University on “Scale, Stock-Recruitment Dynamics and the Global Decline of Coral Reefs” forum as part of the Scientist in Schools Lecture of the Australian Embassy in Manila.
In an interview following his lecture, Hughes disclosed that he was impressed with the “incredibly beautiful”, vibrant and diverse coral reefs in Apo Island during his dive visit Thursday.
Hughes noted at least 60 to 80 percent coral cover in Apo Island, in what he further described as “incredibly diverse as I’ve ever seen in other parts of the Coral Triangle.”
According to Hughes, he saw some 60 species that are not found in Australia, even though there are 350 species on the Great Barrier Reef.
Apo Island is very famous among coral reef researchers and managers and is the location of an ongoing study and collaboration between Filipino and Australian researchers, Hughes said.
“Looking at the effectiveness of no-take areas that are initiated and maintained by local people, Apo Island is a really good example of how local communities can sustainably manage their coral reefs and gain the long term benefits that coral reefs can give to them,” he said.
The 12TH ICRS coordinator from the James Cook University in Australia also highlighted that “people (on Apo Island) are managing a vibrant coral reef dive and tourism industry and effectively sustainably managing their fisheries.”
In Manila, Professor Hughes delivered lectures at the UP-Marine Science Institute and the Philippine Science High School.

Yup! Had the required 2,500km mileage service checkup done last month at their BCD svc center and when I asked them about this they said a Dumaguete dealership/svc center is in the works.
ritche June 19th, 2012, 01:23 AM Dumaguete is fast filling up with gasoline stations, motorcycle and car dealerships - all in a compact small-sized city. This is only an indication of a booming economy and a rising per capita income, perhaps one of the highest in this country. Can anyone beat that? Perhaps one of the highest concentration of vehicles per square kilometer. But we need bigger roads now because the number of 4-wheeled vehicles is multiplying fast! It seems the development of the Dumaguete diversion road has been stagnant...

Tuesday, June 19, 2012
BUSINESSMEN in Dumaguete City and Negros Oriental strongly opposed the proposed P150 terminal fee in the Dumaguete airport.
The Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) conducted a public hearing and consultation for the proposed adjustment of the terminal fee from P30 to P150.
Have something to report? Tell us in text, photos or videos.
Ed Du, president of the Negros Oriental Chamber of Commerce and Industry (NOCCI), said the proposal is impractical and without basis.
Du, however, clarified that he is not against the proposed adjustment of the airport terminal fee but it should be in accordance with what is needed, practical and reasonable.
Instead of P150, Du is pushing for P115 airport terminal fee while some businessmen are for P80 to P100.
Airport Manager Veronica Chuang said it is the high time to adjust the rate in order to shoulder the increasing expenses to run the airport.
Aside from the daily maintenance, Chuang said the airport has ongoing projects amounting P75 million for the expanding of the airplane’s parking area and asphalting of runway.
The projects are part of the preparation for additional flight next month.
CAAP is also planning to renovate the Dumaguete airport by putting a second floor for offices while the whole ground floor will be the departure area. (Victor L. Camion/Sunnex)

ritche June 19th, 2012, 06:31 PM GoHotel, a place for every Juan in Dumaguete
First things first. This is not a sponsored post. I was not asked to make this review. I did so because it’s too awesome not to spread out there. Good lobang must share lah.
So this is where I stayed when I was in Dumaguete. It’s the GoHotel. Operated by the Robinson’s group, it’s a complimentary service to their Cebu Pacific airline. GoHotel aims to be the leading value hotel while still providing a quality hotel stay. Right now there are only five branches, but they still want to open ones in areas where there’s a Robinson’s Mall and where Cebu Pacific flies.
You get a 4 star room while paying the price of a hostel dorm by Singapore standards! Unlike regular hotels, there is no room service, pool, or other amenities. If you require the basic hotel to sleep in while you travel in the Philippines, this place is seriously a leading contender.
http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7072/7260789100_a5f3aeaa0d.jpg
Most GoHotel’s are attached to a Robinson’s mall. The one in Dumaguete is right across Robinson’s Place. This is great because you’re not limited to just the hotel. There are a lot of food choices, shops, and even a movie house a stones throw away.
http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7230/7260790414_e43a4e098c.jpg
If you’re familiar with the concept of budget airlines, then GoHotel should be easy to figure out. The earlier you book, the cheaper the room will be. So far, the cheapest I’ve seen is Php388 (just S$12!) before taxes. When rooms get booked, the prices increase by the hundred.
By the time I remembered to book mine, I was able to get rooms that cost 588 pesos (S$18) a night, and for a THREE DAY stay including taxes, I paid Php2074.24 or S$63. Try beating that at a local Singapore hostel! When we were already there, my friends inquired what that day’s check-in rate was… and guess what, it was still affordable at only Php999 or S$30 a night pre-tax! Research on the ‘net says that room prices max out at Php3000.
http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7216/7176376884_e058b309ca.jpg
http://farm6.staticflickr.com/5199/7176374908_99b7663750.jpg
My room was equipped with WiFi, lots of cable channels on an LCD tv, a small safe, two small bedside tables, a wall mounted writing table and a towel rack. There was a floor length mirror, and the wall behind the headboard was also mirrored. I think they did that to make it seem like the room was bigger.
The bathroom is small, but is set up with both handheld AND a ceiling mounted rainfall shower (!) and even has a detachable laundry cord. They provide shampoo, soap and fluffy towels.
http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7217/7176380802_ff78c94587.jpg
Even though this is a no-frills hotel, the bed was INCREDIBLE. The sheets were high thread count cotton, the quilt was soft and clean, and there was even an ergonomic/chiropractic pillow. It was perfect to sleep on.
My room became a black hole of sorts. Every time we would stop by my place, my friends would ZONK OUT. C’mon, just see the photo above and below! Next thing we knew, hours had already passed while we were napping.
The GoHotel was an unexpected gem and I was spoiled by how nice all the staff in the Dumaguete branch were. Every time I would come back to my room, people would compliment my Brompton. They never even made an issue when I folded my bike which was wet from the rain.
I swear the next time I have to book a place in the Philippines, I will check if there’s a GoHotel nearby, and honestly, you should too.

nicko June 22nd, 2012, 08:49 AM Kalikaf is your healthy food option in Dumaguete
It's difficult to put the words healthy, Filipino and food in one sentence.
http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-WEsVMtjh1NI/T975e07WO_I/AAAAAAAACw4/bYhgPap3FIE/s1600/IMG_3480.JPG
Health food (or at least not the usual fried-oily Filipino or American food) I must admit, is difficult to find in small university town Dumaguete.
The first and last restaurant in town decent enough to serve healthy food, a Persian restaurant, has since folded up. That left me with no choice but wolf on the usual fried-oily-fatty fare whenever I am in town.
http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-mE-x4X7Hrpg/T977sqqA0rI/AAAAAAAACxA/ptxMZJgLBZk/s1600/IMG_3546.JPG
But before my cholesterol level skyrockets yet again to an epic proportion between bites, a new restaurant offering slow cooked food (as opposed to fastfood) had a low-key opening early this year. I swing by to check out what the place has to offer.
http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-xX-Leo69LCY/T97-LP10kjI/AAAAAAAACxQ/lUF1EGWrsVA/s1600/IMG_3664.JPG
The tastefully decorated interior is hard to miss. Chic and artsy are written all over the place.
I came in during the Kalikaf Sunday dinner buffet (reasonably priced at Php200/person; drinks included). The menu selection was limited but nevertheless offered heaps of fish and pasta dishes.
There was soup for starter but I skipped it and had garden salad with fresh olives instead. The first dish that made its way to my plate was the fish fillet with tausi and yes, I got hooked. Juicy goodness with the right amount of Pinoy flavor to it. Just perfect. I couldn't help but dash to the buffet table to get another helping.
http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Yq-iHz-Bm_U/T98ExX0spII/AAAAAAAACxk/J3v-h2FkdqM/s1600/IMG_3699.JPG
Being discriminating not to put anything sweet to go with my rice, I was hesitant to try the sweet and sour fish at first. But the sweet-sour blend with a hint of sesame and spiciness to it made the dish an instant winner. I became a convert.
http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-uh0oqQ5PJ98/T98NclCcqiI/AAAAAAAACx4/uk6f5dH-LhQ/s1600/IMG_3652.JPG
The last dish I tried (to which I purposely tried last for the reason of its weird name) was fruit salad pasta. The pasta was a tad saggy but the rich fruity flavor of mango with just the right restrained hint of basil really grew on me. By far, this is my favorite dish and I would like recreate this one at home pretty soon.
My meal ended with mango cake sliced in cute squares for dessert. It was lacking in the creamy kick that I was anticipating. The bottom of the serving was frozen making my teeth sensitive to the last few bites.
http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-XAFf93Y4h6Q/T98NqF8dFWI/AAAAAAAACyA/a8EssXQg5Aw/s1600/IMG_3505.JPG
It didn't end there. My meal actually ended with a complimentary tall cup of jackfruit coffee. Healthy goodness.
Between Sunday lunch and dinner buffets, Kalikaf offers a variety of healthy food options in their menu. From vegetarian pizza to squash bread to seafood bounties like kinilaw, gambas and the Filipino comfort food tinola, just to name a few.
http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-WNUuX5pkUJ8/T98OTIZFKZI/AAAAAAAACyQ/DqLRr0OxYwU/s1600/IMG_3509.JPG
Kalikaf restaurant advocates healthy food and lifestyle and it promises to deliver only the select and freshest ingredients which are sourced out locally thereby reducing carbon footprints.
Slow food revolution is catching up this side of the country and it's finding its way to Dumaguete City!
Indulge without the guilt.
Kalikaf is located in the Al Fresco Area of Robinson's Place Dumaguete. The area can be easily accessed through the back parking area or the mall back door. It's located just across Go Hotel Dumaguete.

rmb June 25th, 2012, 06:07 AM How come there were more than 4M users from Makati when official population in 2007 was only 548,983, 1,660,714 for Manila, and 2,679,450 for QC...
Hereunder is the Facebook penetration per city based on 2007 population, http://www.census.gov.ph/data/pressrelease/2008/pr0830tx.html:
Cebu City – 823,340/799,762 (?)
Davao - 561,020/1,366,153 = 41%
Zamboanga -193,260/774,407 = 25%
Bacolod – 171,600/499,497 = 34.35%
General Santos – 156,800/529,542= 29.61%
Iligan – 129,760/308,046 = 42.12%
Tarlac - 128,600/314,155 = 40.93%
Olongapo- 118,540/227,270 = 52.15%
San Fernando, Pampanga – 117,300/269,365 = 43.54%
Naga City – 101,920/160,516 = 63.5%
Dumaguete 82,140/116,392 = 70.57%
Cotabato – 75,760/259.153 = 29.23%
Tagum – 66,420/215,967=30.75%
The reason for discrepancy depends on the basis of their survey -- was it based on location? or hometown? But I suspect, they are based on location.
In my case my location is Manila while my hometown is Dumaguete. So I'm counted under Manila. But I didn't take part in the Manila census so I'm not included in the official pop figures.
For Makati, the bloated figures? actually not sure of people being pretentious.. but a lot of people are working and living in Makati (not sure if some are included in the pop surveys considering lots of them are transient). Some people use 'location' were they work or hangout and others use multiple accounts for some reasons.

Good news :) But hopefully we could have flights too..
ritche June 25th, 2012, 06:29 AM A large part of Makati's bloated Facebook users figure is because there are a lot of people who just work there and go home to the provinces after work is over. But I believe it is also because a lot of people want to be identified as somebodies living in the country's premiere financial financial hub...

The basis of the survey is 'current city of residence', so office workers who commute to Makati everyday and live elsewhere do not qualify. Even if we include transients, the estimated daytime population is only around 1 mil http://www.makaticity.com/population/ and most FB netizens use only a single account.
If all the babies and seniors in Makati were to sign up , the numbers still won't add up. The 4 million includes people who have dined, shopped, strolled or passed through the city once or twice...and countless of other people who have high-living urban fantasies..Knowing our country's culture, I stand by my statement :).

ritche June 27th, 2012, 02:35 AM Silliman Linked to World Bank's 6-Country 'Blue World' VC
Silliman University was one of only two academic institutions in the Philippines looped into World Bank’s (WB) multi-country videoconference on “Green Economy in a Blue World” held June 20.
Already its second run, “Green Economy in a Blue World” is part of the seminar series being administered by the Global Development Learning Network, a global partnership of 100 learning centers around the world with its anchor unit at the WB Institute in Washington, D.C.
The conference linked together Silliman and other participants situated in six Asian countries (China, Indonesia, Japan, Thailand, Vietnam and the Philippines) to the WB Headquarters in the United States where the main speaker, Mr. Victor M. Vergara, WB Urban Sector Leader for East Asia and Pacific, gave his presentation.
Mr. Vergara's talk on “Urbanization and Green Economy: Challenges and Opportunities" tackled realities confronting urbanized coastal cities and growing megacities around the world. He discussed prevention and reversal of the bad impacts of urbanization on ocean health, and the optimization of potential of the ocean and coastal ecosystems in spurring environment-friendly economic growth.
Participants of the workshop in the six Asian countries represented had the chance to interface with Mr. Vergara on his report, reflecting on their local experiences in the management of marine and coastal resources for their areas’ economic growth.
Asian Institute of Management in Makati was the second school from the Philippines that took part in the videoconference. Other academic institutions who were also linked straight to the main site were University of Indonesia and Hasanuddin University in Indonesia, Chulalongkorn University in Thailand, and the National Accounting Institute in China.

jake2townz June 27th, 2012, 07:59 AM Guys, I'm inviting everyone to join and visit the ICT Expo 2012 which will run July 12-13 at the Negros Oriental Convention Center, organized by the ICT Association of Dumaguete and Negros Oriental Inc. (ICT DGTE).
The Expo consists of several activities including
- Conference
- Exhibits
- Special Events ( VEX Robot demonstration and a Programming competition)
- Job Fair and Career Talks for Parents, School and DepEd officials
- 2nd quarter meeting of the National ICT Conference of the Phils.
The main objectives of the Expo are to highlight the capabilities of local ICT companies, enable business-to-business interaction, generate recruitment opportunities, showcase talented individuals, strengthen the industry-academe-government ties, and provide a local venue where students – and their parents – can learn about the myriad career and entrepreneurship opportunities in the ICT Industry.
If you are engaged in any web or technology-related business, I would also like to invite you to get a booth. There will be different things for different kinds of people so this will be a good chance for you to promote your company.
