Tan-aw ko ani ugma sa Macias. I've been watching Pacquiao's fights in PPV since Pacquiao Morales III. I'm also a long time Pacquiao fan long before his rise to fame when the whole world right now had idolizes him, since him being an unheralded skinny boy in Vintage Sports' Blow by Blow and shown in ESPN as Asia Fight Night, I stayed late at night watching PTV 4 when he beats Thailand's Chatchai Sasakul for his first world title, and had to skip work just to watch his bout again Marco Antonio Barrera that made the world notice him.
Go PACQUIAO!
Miguel May 7th, 2011, 06:51 PM I just watched Jessica Soho's report on the beatification of Pope John Paul II. A good man and a good ambassador on Jesus' love for humanity. Respected by many especially on his views on "religious tolerance" that even on his funeral it was attended and blessed by different leaders from different religions including Muslims and Jews. It was an astounding site to see different religions got united on a monumental occasion.
A world who worships one God and whose teaching centralizes about LOVE but then was given different names by men (Jesus, Yahweh, Allah, Jehovah), created different holy books as guides to holy life (Bible, Koran, Torah), have different interpretations on how this LOVE would be manifested, created different protocols to follow on how to be holy and be closer to God, argued as to who has the best way to worship God and as to who is the ONLY ONE AND TRUE RELIGION, despises the other religions and would wage wars resulting to millions of deaths throughout history, more than any calamity or disease, all because my God is better than your God, my way of worship is better than your way of worship. Perhaps the legacy of Blessed John Paul II is more than the miracles but uniting the world of different religions and instilling respect for which it is possible to live in harmony.
Anyhow, on Soho's report it featured the song "Tell the World of His Love". This reminds me back in St. Paul's when we were made to sing this song with actions for the World Youth Day. The visit of Pope John Paul II was dubbed as the largest religious gathering ever in the world with about 5 million people. The composer of this song is Trina Belamide who won the songwriting contest for the official song of the World Youth Day and she was here for the 7101 Music Nation 1st Elements National Songwriting Camp.

DUMAGUETE CITY, May 6 (PIA)--The city government has set aside P500,000 for the renovation and improvement of Dumaguete City Public Market.
Through his funds, Senator Chiz Escudero distributed the same amount to all mayors in Negros Oriental last week in Bacolod City.
However, prior of the issuance of the check, Mayor Manuel Sagarbarria said he wrote the Senator for funding assistance for some of the city’s development projects.
The mayor personally received the check intended for the necessary repairs and renovations of some portions of city’s public market.
Sagarbarria clarified, that the fund is specifically set for the market as stated in the Special Allocation Release Order (SARO).
For now, the mayor has tasked the Market Supervisor Engr. Ronie Fortin to prepare a program of work for the said renovations.
The repairs will possibly starts after the Engr. Fortin presented the plan to determine the priority portion to be constructed.
Meantime, the public market of Dumaguete will have the cleanest and attractive comfort rooms in the coming months, the mayor said. (PIA NegOr/JCT)

draude May 10th, 2011, 04:16 AM Dumaguete encourages casual employees to take CS exam (http://www.pia.gov.ph/?m=1&t=1&id=31460)
DUMAGUETE CITY, May 9 (PIA) - The Dumaguete City government has urged casual employees who do not yet have any Civil Service eligibility to attend a review class on May 9 to13 at the City Season Hall.
In an effort to fill up the vacant positions and enhance competency, City Human Resource Assistant, Benette Jan Javier said a five-day review class is being conducted for employees to give them a chance to pass the eligibility test.
Javier said at present there are some casual employees who have had long years in service but cannot be made given a permanent item because they do not have civil service eligibility.
The Human Resource Management Office (HRMO) urged department heads in the city to allow their causal or temporary employees to participate in the program.
Civil service eligibility is a requirement of the Civil Service Commission (CSC).
The instructors for the five-day activities include the Dean of the College of Mass Communication of Silliman University, Dr. Maria Cecilia Genove, with Josephine Acojedo, Delfin Eupalao, Crisilda Estravela and two from the government sector, Javier said.
During the opening, City Administrator William Ablong welcomed the participants and guests as Mayor Manuel Sagarbarria inspired them to work honestly and support city’s program and projects.
The CS examination for the level one and two examination (Sub Professional and Professional will be scheduled soon.

draude May 10th, 2011, 12:16 PM Valencia land now an agro industrial zone (http://www.visayandailystar.com/2011/May/10/negor5.htm)
President Benigno Aquino III issued Presidential Proclamation No. 156 dated April 26, 2011 creating and designating a parcel of land in Barangay Palinpinon in Valencia, Negros Oriental, as an Agro-Industrial Economic Zone pursuant to Republic Act No. 7916 as amended by RA 8748.
This was confirmed by Lilia de Lima, director general of the Philippine Economic Zone Authority, in a letter to Valencia Mayor Enrique Gonzales dated May 4, 2011.
De Lima assured Gonzales of PEZA’s full support and assistance in the operation of the Valencia Special Economic Zone that has an area of 43,252 square meters.
Gonzales said he will seek an audience with former Dumaguete City Mayor, Felipe Antonio Remollo, who is now head of the Clark Development Authority, to help the town to go about the VSEZ, especially in the matter of investments.
Already, a Norwegian investor has poured in millions of pesos in investments at the zone, the first to be established in the province and where investors who want to bring in their equipment and machineries are exempted from value-added tax.
Gonzales said this will bring about more economic development, not only in Valencia but also in Dumaguete City and Negros Oriental.
The move to establish the VSEZ started during the incumbency of former Mayor Rodolfo Gonzales Jr., brother of the present mayor.*JG

this is actually the same scenario when they were still starting with RPD

ritche May 10th, 2011, 02:42 PM I don't know how true but I was told that these structures are actually prepared to take on additional levels if needed with the deep piles that they are burying. At GoHotel, they will bury piles thrice the height of that pile driver...This could be a bongga construction :)...The cost of the piles is quite big. The cost of the foundations of Robinsons alone is Php180 million...
ritche May 10th, 2011, 02:53 PM I was closely looking at the pile driver, and saw that it could actually be the same pile driver that they used to drive piles for Robinson Place Dumaguete. This pile driver is scientific and more precise because it buries piles on a screwing motion. Unlike piling that use cranes and gravity to drive the piles beneath the ground, this pile driver does not disturb much the surrounding earth and structures, securing them thus the pile is actually more secure and stronger. Robinsons Place Dumaguete has probably one of the strongest foundations among buildings in this region...

jundem_dq63 May 11th, 2011, 01:38 AM Biennial Palaro?
Cebu Daily News First Posted 08:13:00 05/10/2011
DAPITAN City— Will there be a Palarong Pambansa next year?
Uncertainties surround the national multi-event competition as instead of holding it annually, there are plans to make the event a biennial meet.
“There could be changes since we have a new management now. It's not sure sure if there will be a Palaro next year since there are still discussions whether to change the schedule of the event,” said Recaredo Borgonia, regional director of the Department of Education in Central Visayas (DepEd-7).
Financial matters is the main reason for the possible change of schedule.
Borgonia said holding the Palarong Pambansa is very expensive, especially if the host city has an inadequate facilities.
For this year's event, the host has set aside at least P250 million funds.
Aside from the host city, the delegations from around the country also incur huge expenses for transportation and food, among others.
Borgonia added that the expenses for the Palarong Pambansa has to be rationalized since some local government units bid to host the event for a chance to build sports facilities with the help of the national government.
Borgonia said Negros Oriental is one of the bidders in case there will be a Palarong Pambansa next year.
“There is no venue that can beat Negros Oriental. They have complete facilities which they've been working on since 1994,” said Borgonia.
Whether there will be a change in schedule will be in discussed in future meetings by the management committee of the Palarong Pambansa, which is composed of the regional directors of DepEd and the agency's secretary, Bro. Armin Luistro./EDITORIAL ASSISTANT CALVIN D. CORDOVA

Dgte Business Park sits on a very soft ground. The whole area used to be a swamp, a mangrove forest, and a rice field. So having a strong foundation is a must. Teletech buildings, as originally planned, should have been multi-leveled but ended up as a sprawling type complex since they did not have the luxury of time to build ultra strong foundations to stand on soft ground unlike Robinsons.. Teletech builing A, even with its size, just finished under 8 months. If they pushed through with their plan to build it at least 3 levels, finishing it within that time span is very impossible. Constructing in Dgte Business Park is an engineering challenge. Financially challenging, too!

I remember when we knew Robinsons was going to open, I think it was about a year we waited for the foundations to set in; and it was a frustrating wait to see progress...
I also wonder if this will dampen the original plans of the business park to have the 10 storey structures nearer the sea...
...and also, is this the reason why they are going ahead with the IT park at the circular house, even though there is many vacant spaces at Calindagan IT park...

nicko May 12th, 2011, 01:57 AM ^^ Ow Archery.. Not surprising anymore. 2 of Philippines' players in the Olympics are from Dumaguete.. Silliman U excels on that.. One of the best schools for Archery..
Beach Volley? That's FU's forte. FU always wins in Boracay's national inter-university Beach Volley by Nestea.. And they where the champions in the recent Unigames..
Frisbee? It's everyone's game here.. If not soccer, then it's definitely frisbee that is played in every soccer field in the city.. The spacious sands in our beaches are not spared, too! Dumaguete is Derek Ramsey's choice to get his players for the national frisbee team.. It's already like becoming the "national sport" here..:)

ritche May 12th, 2011, 03:17 AM Hey Guys, I watched the INTERACTIVE with Neil Rio of Fil Product last night where Victor Vicente ‘Dean’ G. Sinco, chairman of Foundation University was his guest. FU Hospital would be great....Regarding the high rise hospital structure in Piapi, it should be the one owned by the NOPH...

jundem_dq63 May 12th, 2011, 03:27 AM ^^ Ow Archery..
We already have players from Dumaguete City who is a member of the National Beach Volleyball team (women)... One from FU and one from SU... Yvette is the name and I forgot her family name... and Gretel Deposoy....

ritche May 12th, 2011, 03:29 AM I remember when we knew Robinsons was going to open, I think it was about a year we waited for the foundations to set in; and it was a frustrating wait to see progress...
I also wonder if this will dampen the original plans of the business park to have the 10 storey structures nearer the sea...
...and also, is this the reason why they are going ahead with the IT park at the circular house, even though there is many vacant spaces at Calindagan IT park...
I think they intend the business park to host other establishments, and Qualfon isn't just intended to be there :)...perhaps because they want a bigger space.
jundem_dq63 May 12th, 2011, 03:32 AM Hey Nicko....and Party people..... FOODNET RESTO BAR in Calindagan is now officially opened.... Been there just this morning and had my breakfast... Sooooooooooooooooooo nice....... I like the concept... Dance floor not that big but it's nice......specially the lights....
I'll be posting my very own photos this afternoon after my shift......please do check this out guys....

You will notice that the gas station under construction was originally intended to be at the southwestern side. Now a fastfood chain drive thru that was supposed to open at Robinsons is being planned to be in the area where the gas station is supposed to stand...

^^ I have a different perception of the name Foodnet man gud. And everyone here knows Foodnet as a fastfood/cafeteria and not as an upscale restobar. Apparently, they are reinventing and repackaging Foodnet to go beyond perception and to go beyond what everyone expects it to be.. I havent been there but it can just be seen from the road that it is going to be like a mini Mango Square in Cebu. A small complex composed of a fastfood, a bar, and a 2-level alfesco restobar.. A complete repackaging of a typical Foodnet.. So it certainly deserves a new name.. Hehe.. And lain man gud muingon nga, "Guys, hangout tas Foodnet or "let's grab a drink or two at Foodnet.." and "Clubbing at Foodnet?"... Huh? Hehe.. Opinion lang demdem..:)
Anyway, cheers for the new tambayan in town!!

ritche May 12th, 2011, 05:35 AM Dumaguete: City of Gentle People!
I visited Dumaguete fortnight ago. I love this quaint seaside city. The place is so laidback but never behind. It’s calm. A hideaway for people who want peace and tranquility.

I like to stroll along Rizal Boulevard… a great place to calm your nerves.
This City of Gentle People is the largest city and the capital city of Negros Oriental, a province in the Philippines. It is dubbed as “City of Gentle People“ because of its hospitality not only to their fellow Dumagueteños, but even to local and foreign tourists. This city is also tagged as university town due to the existence of seven colleges and universities in the city. Among the famous educational institutions found in the city is the Silliman University. The simplicity of its beauty has attracted a huge number of tourists from different corners of the world including Europe and Korea.

DUMAGUETE City — President Benigno Aquino III approved the creation of the first Agro-Industrial Economic Zone in Brgy. Palinpinon, Valencia town.
The President issued Presidential Proclamation No. 156 dated April 26, 2011, creating and designating a parcel of land in the said village as an agro-industrial economic zone, pursuant to Special Economic Zone Act of 1995 (Republic Act 7916) as amended by Republic Act 8748.
The 43,252-square-meter area will be known as the Valencia Special Economic Zone (VSEZ).
Prior to its approval, the Philippine Economic Zone Authority (PEZA) passed a board resolution declaring the area as VSEZ.
PEZA promotes the establishment of economic zones in the Philippines for foreign investment.
A PEZA-declared economic zone will ensure investors of world-standard facilities and support services.
The Valencia Hydraulic System Technologies Inc., which produces underwater equipment, was the first company to operate in the economic zone.
On the other hand, the local government of Valencia established its industrial park in a bid to generate more livelihood and work opportunities for its residents.
Valencia has been identified by the government as a suitable site for micro-industrial companies as it provides electric subsidy to its electric consumers.

Capitol allocates P10M for highway road rehab (http://www.visayandailystar.com/2011/May/12/negor2.htm)
BY MARICAR ARANAS
The Negros Oriental government has allocated P10 million for the rehabilitation and development of a portion of the Highway 2000 in Barangay Pinalubngan, Jimalalud, and the Provincial Engineers Office is expected to start working next month, as soon as the brand new heavy equipment arrives.
Gov. Roel Degamo said the allocation will be taken from the P94 million surplus budget of the 20 percent development fund of the province.
Highway 2000 is a road network connecting the hinterland barangays of the municipalities of Mabinay, Bindoy, Ayungon, Tayasan, Jimalalud and La Libertad. The road network is expected to help improve the living condition of the people living in the area who will have easier access in bringing their farm produce to the market.
Degamo said he hopes to complete the development of the highway by allocating a substantial amount for it every year until the end of his term.*MA

jundem_dq63 May 13th, 2011, 12:45 AM Housing and construction will continue to be the engine of growth this year. The double-digit growth in the revenues of BPO facilities has also stimulated the construction of office buildings in practically all the urban areas that have been attracting BPO companies, including smaller cities like Baguio, Dumaguete, Bacolod, and Naga. Since double-digit growth is forecast for at least the next five years in the BPO industry, the impact on real estate and construction will be sustained.

jundem_dq63 May 13th, 2011, 12:57 AM Dumaguete City magtukod ug modernong dumpsite pagkab-ot sa zero-waste
Pia NegOr
Jennifer Catan-Tilos

Partners-In-Crime
http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_O6o0ReZtnIo/TKJIBKiy7EI/AAAAAAAABZg/uB0uT83TYBs/s400/shake_hands.jpg
There's a distance of about 24.95 kilometers and separated by the Bohol Sea but there's a strong bond and connection between Negros Oriental and Siquijor. As history tells that in 1892, Siquijor was part of the province of Negros Oriental and then it became a sub-province of Negros Oriental in 1901 until September 17, 1971 when Siquijor became an independent province by virtue of Republic Act No. 6396.
Two of its six towns were named after 2 Negros Oriental Governors, Demetrio Larena and Enrique Villanueva. The governor and congressman are Sillimanians while most of the Siquijodnon students study in the schools of Dumaguete. According also to a study, most of the products in Siquijor are sold in the market of Dumaguete while at the same time their personal consumption needs are also mostly bought in this city.
The Boy Scouts group is known as the Boy Scouts of the Philippines Negros Oriental-Siquijor Council, the Bureau of Internal Revenue District 79 covers Negros Oriental and Siquijor, the Diocese of Dumaguete includes the provinces of Negros Oriental and Siquijor and while the Sidlakang Negros Village features the attractions of the different towns of Negros Oriental, Siquijor also has its own cottage/booth.
For tourists from other countries of provinces, an excursion to Negros Oriental would not be as complete without having a sidetrip to Siquijor and for those going to Siqujior the jump off would be in Dumaguete. Due to its proximity, most of tour packages of Negros Oriental now includes a trip to Siquijor. In either way, Negros Oriental and Siquijor are partners and hand in hand in promoting tourism in this part of the region.

SIQUIJOR
Isla del Fuego
We had a summer getaway to Siquijor two weeks ago just to get the most out of the summer. Siquijor is known as Isla del Fuego or Island of Fire. The island had mystified to some because of the lore of its black magic and sorcery. Yet in contrast to its creepy reputation of a danger lurking deep on its recesses, Siquijor is the most peaceful province in the country with the lowest crime rate. Its dark image could nowhere be far from the truth when its pristine white sandy beaches are gleaming with light from the sun.
Siquijor is about an hour from Dumaguete depending on what vessel you are voyaging with, for us, we rode the Montenegro Shipping Lines which took us about an hour and a half and only cost us P109 each. Upon reaching Siquijor, you have options to travel, either to ride on a habal-habal, tricycle, or multicab. I would recommend to rent a motorcycle so you can fullcontrol on your itinerary. It is P25 per hour or P350 per day and driver's license is required. For us though, none of us were able to bring our license but luckily my friend had an old classmate from Siquijor who helped us rent a motorcycle. Definitely, there is no traffic in Siquijor and the roads are yours for the taking.

The five of us; me, Auriza, Rhett, Dena, and Rhett's cousin (sorry I forgot the name) had an excursion to Siquijor. It was such an exciting and enjoyable trip as we were able to visit some of the tourist spots of this tiny island. Unexpectedly, I found out that my cousin Dino and his wife Cleo were also on a "honeymoon" at the same resort we were staying
We stayed at the Coral Cay Resort, the price is reasonable as the room is only P900 good for 2 plus you can enjoy all the amenities of the resort for free. You can use the kayaks, mini gym, billiard table, and swimming pool without additional cost. The food and drinks might be pricey though but if you would like to get the most out of your money I suggest you can go and eat outside.

It would be a rarity to find a swimming pool infront of the municipal hall and part of the public plaza. What's more amazing is that it is not just an ordinary swimming pool as it is being fed by a spring which can be found below those rocks.

jj83 May 13th, 2011, 06:36 AM ^^ I have a different perception of the name Foodnet man gud.
Had an early lunch there today, good food for a great price, 3 flat screen TV's at least one with actual HD satellite service (only place I've seen in Duma with that), comfortable seating, nice coffee, friendly service, cold air con. The outdoor bar area and 2-levels of seating looked really nice, I'll definitely be back.

draude May 16th, 2011, 04:44 AM DTI’s Diskwento Caravan rolls off to Eastern Visayas
TACLOBAN CITY, Leyte, May 14 (PIA) --- With the enrollment period just around the corner, the Department of Trade and Industry has decided to bring the Diskwento Caravan where mothers and student can shop for school supplies at discounted rates, not only in Metro Manila but also to all the regions of the country.
In Eastern Visayas, Diskwento Sales, will be conducted in the province of Samar particularly at Catbalogan City on June 10 and Calbayog City on June 14, Atty. Lemuel Montes of DTI Region 8 said.
In Eastern Samar, the Diskwento Sales will be conducted in Borongan City on June 6 to 10 while in Northern Samar, the Diskwento Sale will be conducted on August 3-5.
The other Diskwento Sales in the Region will be conducted on June 22- 23 at Naval, Biliran; June 23-24 at Tacloban City Leyte by DTI Leyte; and on June 26- 27 at Rizal Elementary School in Tacloban City under the management of DTI Region 8.
Trade and Industry Secretary Gregory L. Domingo gave instructions to his undersecretary for regional operations, regional and provincial directors to coordinate with manufacturers of prime and basic commodities to sell discounted products in provinces and allow consumers in the countryside purchase products for as low as factory prices.
“We also want those consumers in various regions to experience the reduced prices of goods sold at the caravan which Metro Manila residents were afforded,” Secretary Domingo said.
The caravan is participated in by manufacturers which sell wares ranging from generic medicines, bread, sardines, cooking oil, processed meat, fruits, vegetables, detergent bars, and school supplies.
The schedule of the caravan as released by the DTI Central Office, are as follows: Bukidnon – April 27-28; Antique May 4-5; Abra – May 10-11, Oriental Mindoro – May 18-19, Pangasinan – May 24-25, Surigao del Norte –May 30-31, Zambales – June 2-3, Zamboanga del Norte – June 7-8, Cagayan – June 14-15, Northern Samar – June 17-18, Sorsogon – June 22-23, Davao Oriental – June 28-29, Negros Oriental July 5-6, Quezon – July 14-15, and Saranggani – July 26-27.”
Recently, President Benigno Aquino III ordered DTI to hold as much as 100 “Diskwento Caravans” nationwide to give more Filipinos the chance of buying basic commodities at much lesser prices. (PIA 8

jundem_dq63 May 16th, 2011, 06:02 AM 'Super task force' now in full swing in Dumaguete

DUMAGUETE CITY, May 16 (PIA) -- Law violators in Dumaguete be warned: the Special Action Group Advocating for Rapid Reforms or Task Force SAGARR, the newly-created "super body" to enforce the laws and ordinances in the city, will now run after you.
This after the task force members officially started its operations following a three-day seminar-workshop from May 10 to 12, 2011 at the City Session Hall.
City Administrator William Ablong, who sits at the helm of the task force as its ground commander, said that Task Force SAGARR enforcers promise to put teeth in the implementation of laws and ordinances in the city. "The enforcers pledged to enforce laws and ordinances in the city with audacity, and to execute them with might, without fear or favor, to further its purpose and advance the interests of the city gentle people," said Ablong in a statement from the Dumaguete City Information Office.
Ablong said the task force will run after violators of the various ordinances in the city, such as hot meat or double dead meat, chemically contaminated vegetables and stray animals, anti-smoking campaign, solid waste management, sanitation and food safety, truancy, anti-vagrancy, anti-mendicancy, prostitution, massage parlors, KTV Bars, anti-squatting and idle lots, updated tax ordinance, business permit, omnibus tax ordinance, illegal and sidewalk vendors, traffic, road hazards and obstruction, Market Code and Updated Tax Ordinance, sale of liquor, curfew, cyber space, night blocks and board and lodging houses.
Created by virtue of Executive Order No. 10 signed by Dumaguete Mayor Manuel Sagarbarria in September last year, the task force was organized to address constraints in enforcing and executing the laws and ordinances in the city.
The task force is broken down into 11 teams that will spearhead the enforcement of the following ordinances: Meat/Fish/Vegetable Inspection, Stray Dogs, Hot Meat Pursuit, Anti-Smoking Campaign, Sanitation and Food Safety, Integrated Solid Waste Management, Anti-Indecency, Truancy, Anti-Vagrancy, Anti-Mendicancy, Anti-Squatting and Idle Lot Ordinance, Updated Tax Ordinance, Business/Mayor's Permit, Omnibus Tax Ordinance, Illegal Vendors and Sidewalk/Ambulant Vendors, Traffic, Road Hazards and Obstructions, Market Code, Sale of Liquor, Curfew, Cyberspace, Nightclubs/Karaoke Bar Ordinance and Board and Lodging Houses Accreditation Ordinance. “Zero-Waste”
By Leo R. Macalipay
• Sun, May 15, 2011
The Hon. Mayor Manuel “Chiquiting Sagarbarria, along with the City Administrator William E. Ablong, City Legal Officer Atty. Neil Ray N. Lagahit, ABC President Albert Aquino, Candau-ay Brgy. Captain Gregorio Oira, City Councilor Manuel Arbon, and ENRO Officer Rogelio Clamonte, left for Manila last Wednesday, May 4, 2011, to have a dialogue with the True Green Energy Group (TGEG).
One of the City Mayor’s concerns was the interesting contract between the True Green Energy Group and the past administration regarding the conversion of garbage into energy which is expected to produce 9 mega watts of electricity. Interesting, isn’t it? They were being toured around San Fernando, Pampanga to see and observe their plant. It was learned that state of the art facilities are already laid upon but not yet operational. It was also discovered that San Fernando would be receiving twenty percent (20%) share while in Dumaguete City, as stated in the contract, is only 3-5% share.
Finally, True Green Energy Group (TGEG) and the City Mayor Sagarbarria’s group have come up with the agreement to see to it that the contract will materialize by September 2011, and reviewed the supposed share of LGU-Dumaguete.
Hopefully, when the contract is consummated, the following municipalities such as Sibulan, San Jose, Amlan, Valencia, Bacong, and Dauin, will also be benefitted by this project and, Dumaguete City will benefit from these neighboring towns as well, considering the number of tons of garbage which will be collected from them for energy conversion.
The Honorable City Mayor envisions a zero-waste to take place in Dumaguete City. Meanwhile, DENR, Department of Environment and Natural Resources issued an authority to the City Government of Dumaguete to close the controversial dumpsite in Barangay Candau-ay. It can be remembered that Hon. Mayor Sagarbarria had an initial plan to fence in the entire dumpsite.
According to the City Mayor, there were several groups who came to him and discussed about their plans for the dumpsite with good offer. This signals that the area will be very much useful for other projects.

DUMAGUETE CITY, May 16 (PIA) -- Sen. Juan Miguel Zubiri has pledged to extend additional monetary aid for the construction of a boardwalk along Rizal Boulevard in Dumaguete City, Negros Oriental.
Zubiri, in a press conference on May 14 during his visit here, said he will give an additional "one or two million pesos" to complete the boardwalk. The senator has already earlier poured in P1-M for said project.
In the same press conference, Dumaguete City Mayor Manuel Sagarbarria thanked the senator for augmenting the budget of the boardwalk completion which is part of an ongoing development project along the scenic stretch of Rizal Boulevard, considered the show window of Dumaguete. "The place that has captured the interest and love of foreign and local tourists to make them visit and stay in the city," said the mayor in a statement.
The boardwalk will start in front of CAP Building going to the port area, said City Engineer Edwin Quirit.
A statement from the Dumaguete City Information Office said that Senators Kiko Pangilinan, Ralf Recto and TG Guingona have also shared a part of their Priority Development Assistance fund (PDAF) through the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) for the development of the Rizal boulevard. More and more Dumaguetenos are catching the running bug.
Inspired by the success of the Silliman Run 2010 in Cebu City last year, the Silliman University Alumni Association, Inc. will hold an 11-km run in Dumaguete , dubbed “Run to Educate,” on August 7.
Judge Rafael Crescencio Tan, SAAI president, said that this is one of three projects he is holding during his one-year term as head of the SAAI. “This activity, which will formally open the 2011 Founder’s Day celebration, is something that would make this year’s Founder’s Day interesting,” he said during the press conference marking the soft-launching of the Silliman Run 2011.
The Silliman Run 2011 will be spearheaded by the SU Cebu Alumni, who organized last year’s run.
SUCebu President Siegfried Sia said there are three open categories for the August 7 run. Aside from the 11-K for running enthusiasts and professionals, there will be a 5.5k for youth and young adults and a 1.1K for school children and elderly participants, who may choose to walk the entire route.
The run is designed for 11, 5.5 and 1.1 kilometers in commemoration of the 110th anniversary celebration of Silliman University.
The run will start and end at 5:30 a.m. at the Silliman Portals along Hibbard Avenue.
Interested runners may register at the SAAI office in Silliman Univeristy or may email sillimanrun2011@yahoo.com. To avail of discounted early registration fees, participants are encouraged to register before July 11 to pay only P300, P270 and P270 for the 11k, 5.5k and 1.1k categories, respectively.
Sia said the proceeds of the run will go to the scholarship program of SAAI and SUCebu, in line with the association’s objective of sending deserving students to study in Silliman University.
Ambassador Antonio Villamor Jr., alumni representative to the SU Board of Trustees, said after this event, they will organize a Silliman Run in every place in the country where Silliman alumni are located.
The SAAI has tapped running advocate Paultom Paras as race director. (Alex Pal)

jundem_dq63 May 17th, 2011, 05:55 AM Dumaguete boulevard boardwalk construction soon to start
by Rachelle M. Nessia
DUMAGUETE CITY, May 16 (PIA) - Construction of a boardwalk along the scenic Rizal Boulevard in Dumaguete City, Negros Oriental is soon to kick off after several senators have pledged to extend monetary assistance for the project.
The most recent monetary pledge is from Sen. Juan Miguel Zubiri who promised to add “a million or two” pesos into the project's financial bucket during his May 14 visit in Dumaguete City. This is in addition to the P1-M aid he has already pitched in earlier for said construction.
A statement from the Dumaguete City Information Office said that aside from Zubiri, Senators Kiko Pangilinan, Ralf Recto and TG Guingona have also earlier shared a part of their Priority Development Assistance fund (PDAF) through the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) for the development of the boulevard.
The boardwalk will span the area in front of CAP Building in Rizal Boulevard and stretch all the way into the adjacent port area, according to City Engineer Edwin Quirit.
Dumaguete City Mayor Manuel Sagarbarria, in a statement, said the boardwalk is part of an ongoing development project in Rizal Boulevard, considered the show window of Dumaguete. "The place that has captured the interest and love of foreign and local tourists to make them visit and stay in the city," said the mayor in the same statement. draude May 18th, 2011, 04:56 AM Kasalang Filipino to feature Valencia’s finest sinamay (http://www.pia.gov.ph/?m=1&t=1&id=32943)
DUMAGUETE CITY, May 17 (PIA) Valencia’s sinamay and other abaca products will be featured during the three-day Kasalang Filipino 2011, the biggest wedding expo in Negros Oriental, at Robinsons Place Dumaguete on May 20 to 22.
This year’s Kasalang Filipino, a wedding trade show in Dumaguete City aims to promote the local wedding planning and tourism industry.
The Municipality of Valencia is a recognized producer of abaca fiber in Negros Oriental. It is used in the production of handicraft products such as fashion accessories, decorative accessories, furniture, garments, textile, packaging materials, table-top accessories, playthings for pets, sports paraphernalia (www.abacaphilippines.com). The said fiber is also known worldwide as Manila hemp.
Abaca fiber is also used in sinamay weaving. Sinamay is of less gossamer tissue, but almost transparent and far more durable than the fabrics made from pineapple fiber. Sinamaymaterials are used in making gift boxes; packaging materials, decorative accessories, wall covering; draperies, fashion accessories, footwear; tabletop accessories and more. (www.abacaphilippines.com)
Valencia will participate in the event to help promote the local wedding and tourism industry of the province, as it showcases the best wedding suppliers and wedding venues.
The Kasalang Filipino also features bridal fashion show, wedding-related talks and cultural shows. Wedding suppliers are expected to display their products and services to the public through exhibits.
Kasalang Filipino is now on its 8th year. It ties up with the 13 key cities in the country. This includes, Cabanatuan, General Santos, Lucena, Baguio, Dumaguete, Pampanga, Zamboanga, Malolos, Davao,Tagaytay, San Fernando, Bacolod, and Cagayan de Oro. (PIA NegOr/JCT)
