To cater for the fast growing population, NT Government plan to build a satellite city of 40,000 residents just 15km from Palmerston and 41km from the Darwin CBD. Its expected the cost of providing the city's arterial roads, power, water and sewage trunk services to come to around $740 million.

The Northern Territory Government, Department of Planning and Infrastructure, (DPI) will design and construct 7.5km of roadworks, to extend Tiger Brennan Drive from Berrimah Road to the Stuart Highway, including an overpass at Stuart Highway/Roystonea Avenue.

Set to be one of the largest projects in Australia's history and be a major boast to the Territory. The project is set to start in 2010 and will create 2000 jobs during construction, 300 jobs when completed and will bring $50 billion to the Territory economy over the next 20 years.

Australian Infrastructure Fund is planning a expansion of the passenger terminal by an estimated 65 percent in a modern 3 level extension to cope with growing traffic. It will include improved retail precinct, two new aircraft parking bays, better security screening facilities, separate baggage reclaim and arrivals areas for domestic and international passengers, better security screening facilities and 160 new car spaces.

{Vision} $250m Darwin - Mandorah Bridge
There is discussion of building a bridge over Darwin Harbour connecting Darwin with Mandorah in a aim to make it easier for people living on the Cox Peninsula and opening up the area for future development

Vision for a light rail link between the Darwin City and fast growing satellite city of Palmerston because of rising fuel costs, traffic congestion and population growth.

I hope I haven't forgotten any projects or made any errors, though I know theres currently a mid-rise apartment block going up in the northern suburb of Nightcliff however I can't find any details of it. Thinking of creating a "Adelaide & SA Guide" soon which will be larger than this one, watch this space. ;)

Yup, 2 of them are now complete while the other one is still under construction with a crane on site (not a tower crane or hammerhead though). Added to list, thanks.

Territory population rises

FIGURES released by the Australian Bureau of Statistics show the Northern Territory’s population grew by 5040 people in the year to December 2007, reaching a record population of 217 559 people.
That is a growth rate of 2.4% compared to the national average of 1.6%.
At the heart of that growth is the Palmerston region, which recorded a 5% increase in population from 25 889 to 27185 people.

It was reported in the Australian that most of the growth was in the Greater Darwin area which means it's population is close to 120,000.

FYI to update CRAWF regarding: ^^ ^^

The Target store in Alice Springs is currently under construction within the Alice Plaza Shopping Centre, it is not an extension rather it is an addition or fitout what ever you like to call it, I am unsure all I know it is definately going to open in October 2008.

BILO closed shop sometime early last year, I can't remember when. I only know it became another Coles Supermarket but because there is already a major Coles Supermarket in town just 600m or so away I think there were some issues with having 2 Coles Supermarkets in town.

Coles Myer apparently announced the Bilo (Coles on the Mall) would be replaced by a Target Discount Department Store. The Target sign is apparently up already and has been for a few months.

There are other major stores now within the Alice Plaza including a full size Priceline Pharmacy and shop and multiple fashion stores.

Oops sorry I completely forgot about your PM. FYI projects completed before April 2008 will not be added to Completed projects list.

Just made the list more user friendly, I've organised CBD projects into groups - over 25 levels, 20-25 levels, 10-19 levels and under 10 levels. Plus all projects are now in order from the highest to the lowest

That Alice Springs ^^ Target Discount Dept store has been open since 18 September now..... It was the old Bilo Supermarket... the whole centre has been refurbished with new stores since late last year/early this year, but their website hadn't been updated...

I say also Section SIX all the buildings in there should be part of Section 5 as they are all completed and or due for completion very soon now except for the China Town Ones which as far as i am aware are still under excavation....
