View Full Version : MELBOURNE: BHP Billiton Global Headquarters
tayser October 1st, 2003, 01:21 PM This will be Melbourne's tallest completed building since Crown Tower's completion! Next one: your guess is as good as mine ;)
thanks to Fountainhead for pointing out the pics:

BHP Billiton move out from Bourke Place into here next week (week beginning 6th October)
I wouldn't mind watching a corporate move lol, I bet it'd happen overnight ?
chrisaus October 1st, 2003, 01:35 PM if im not mistaken this is in 'the gap' and is highly visable, so im not happy at all with this, might need to see it in person for fairly judge it, but it looks pretty bland and boring....
CULWULLA October 1st, 2003, 02:38 PM BHP actually looks quite good in those pix! Its not that bad after all!
Its the first steel framed skyscraper to be built in OZ since Chifley Tw back in 92.god to see some "completions" in melbourne. No doubt many more to come!!
:)
spazpecker October 1st, 2003, 11:57 PM I like the mix of cutting edge ground level architecture with the sleek glass above, however this tower doesn't seem deserving of such a prominent site in the CBD. It is a pretty squat looking thing that occupies a large footprint in a brilliant location- even just another 30 metres in height would make a huge difference. This would be a great keystone scraper for Dandenong, St Kilda Rd or Docklands !
tayser October 25th, 2003, 02:03 PM the entry - still U/C (AFAIK, pic below is 2+ weeks old)

DrDan November 5th, 2003, 09:45 AM looks as though the front is coming along nicely. Can't wait to see the absolute finished product!
zion November 5th, 2003, 04:11 PM Frontage looks pretty bland. They could of done more sculpturing with the glass. The botton section detailing looks quite nice, if it wasn't there, the building just look like a mirror slab.
6.5/10

isnt this company half british? just wondered if they had a big office on london or whatever/have a dual world hq like Royal Dutch/Shell or Unilever .
whatever...still its a really nice building tho
:)
tayser December 8th, 2003, 12:19 PM BHP = Broken Hill Proprietry Limited, Broken hill's an outback NSW town.
Billiton = Original founded in The Netherlands.
They merged a few years back to create BHPBilliton, and yes there's a large presence in London (which Australian company doesnt? just look at NAB) & the FTSE etc.
The BHP HQ was 600 Bourke Street (Bourke Place), then became BHPBilliton HQ after merger, and now they moved a few blocks in Melbourne's CBD ;)

chrisaus December 8th, 2003, 12:21 PM can we add a global to the woodside thread, makes it sound better :colgate:
swinehead December 13th, 2003, 12:36 AM That entrance looks pretty smart even if the rest is sort of plain.
james2390 December 16th, 2003, 10:01 PM i like the shape and the facade!
MelbourneCity December 25th, 2003, 02:33 AM I went in it yesterday... got some interesting views but the interior is pretty crappy! The lobby is bloody bare as!
There sure are alot of ugly buildings between the "gaps".
Pics later.
Icanseeformiles August 19th, 2004, 08:50 AM bare is good. like the "minimalist" look in lobby's
