This little bar across from The Huntington Center just couldn't survive and shut it's doors about 4 months ago and had been up for lease. I just noticed today that is has a LEASED sign on the building. Any idea on what is going in here?

Also.. there has been some renovations/remodeling/restoration a couple buildings down from The Blarney. Any idea on whats going on in this building?

Blarney did expand and does have a place next door called the Bullpen. It is more of a hall for events and things like that so if you need a place to have a party or something it is a really nice place to do caterings with a built in bar and stage for a band

The Oregon Wheeling St widening project is in the final stretch... both on off ramps at wheeling and 280 are currently closed as of 8-17 but they are claiming that in 60 days the project will be in the finishing touches stage. So 60 days the overpass will be finished and on/off ramps reopened (weather permitting) but work will still be going on for a little while after that.. Huge for Oregon when this is complete

What's crazy about the Mud Hens is that I remember back when the stadium was being planned, attendance projections were only about 400,000 a year. They weren't expecting any miracles since attendance at Ned Skeldon was so weak (I'd crack it up to the location).

The fact the stadium has consistently been getting over 500,000 people a year is a huge success story. Fifth Third Field beat all expectations and I'd go as far as saying it's the best Triple-A baseball stadium in America. It was a flawlessly executed project and created a good amount of spinoff.

Park upgrade rejected; street repairs pushed

I think the city made the right decision here. There are a lot of streets in Toledo that need critical repairs, and I'd argue expanding the riverfront park won't create any miracles. I don't see much ROI on the project considering Promenade Park is already big enough (just about the right size for an urban waterfront park). I'd rather have that lot stay empty until a private developer comes along with some nice urban infill.

The site is perfect for mixed-use three to four-story buildings with brick facades that would compliment Fort Industry Square. Maybe create a courtyard in the buildings that connects to Promenade Park.

Im all for the rails to trails project! This gives rossford/perrysburg residents better pedestrian access to The Toledo Zoo, Downtown Toledo, Lucas Co Fairgrounds n rec center.. Also gives Maumee/South enders better access to downtown perrysburg.. (theres a huge gap for peds trying to cross the river considering the next ped crossing down stream is the highlevel bridge and the next one up stream is the maumee pburg bridge) Wood Co residents may even consider biking to UT for classes to save on gas! Cant wait to check it out when its complete! Almost wanna go explore the bridge now!

Mudhen419

I dont think the size of prominade park is the big issue... i think it needs a better lay out and new amenities or a revamping. A new prominade park and someone finally finishing the steam plant would be awesome for the downtown portion of the riverfront

East Tol news..... The grain elevator that burned down last year on Miami street is almost fully replaced.. Looks like they are currently topping it off.

Miami Street from Oakdale all the way to Rossford is undergoing major renovations.. The bridge over the train tracks near Oakdale that has been being replaced the past few years is nearing completion and the widening of miami near the casino is well underway. the Miami St exit going north has been closed for the past few weeks and it looks like its almost done.. i saw paint on the new approach to Miami and it looks like they made an extra lane so now there will be 3 lanes at the exit with 2 going toward the casino.

Work on the exterior of the casino is coming along well.. Lookin pretty nice if you ask me! definatly worth a trip to see it before the cold months come!

A few comments:

The meeting between TARTA and BGSU to bring bus service to BG (very much needed, but probably would be little used) drew exactly one student. Probably not going to happen.

How in the heck can it cost $350-$400 million to widen an existing highway for a little less than 40 miles? That's $10 million dollars a mile when there should be no interchange modifications. Will this, in essence, be a total rebuild of the highway? Is that why it costs so danged much?

Mudhen419

That does seem pretty high for a project like that... Im hoping that they might add a few more on/off ramps (Perrysburg could use 1 south of the 475-75 split cuz its a loooonng way to the next on/off ramp) Possibly add one at Roachton, Five Point, or Reitz rds. I think if its possible, adding the Roachton on off ramps would be be best.. Would probly help with the heavy traffic on 25 caused by Levis Commons. The on/off ramps at north baltimore (i believe its numbered 168) definitely needs to be redone. they are pretty dangerous especially in the winter. Go check it out on google maps and you'll see what im talking about if youve never taken those exits

OK, that makes sense to me. I wasn't thinking about those exits. Come to think of it, Exit 181 at BG will probably need to be rebuilt too. The accel lanes are pretty short. It's still stunning that a rebuild of one highway can cost as much as the 3C plan that Kasich turned down.

Mudhen419
October 6th, 2011, 08:55 PM
I also think they should add an on/off ramp on 475 between the perrysburg 475/75 split and the maumee river bridge. (at river rd) theres really nothing in the way.

Even though a monorail would be sweet to see in toledo, i believe light rail would benefit our city just as much and would be much cheaper.. I'd love to see a light rail running down Monroe street connecting downtown with the museum and eventually going to UT and westfield mall. When driving down the AW trail I envision another light rail line connecting downtown with the zoo and ending in maumee. the grassy median is wide enough in most places on the trail for it to fit. Wishful thinking right there.

now that Yuengling is finally in Ohio I feel like it loses its nostagia. It's an okay beer. I'm more excited that New Belgium is coming in February 2012, although it has not been made public. I have a friend who works for the company in Colorado and he told me 100% it will be here. Fat Tire is one of my favorite beers so I can't wait to be able to buy one here.

This site is the PERFECT place for new Convention Center. The Seagate Centre is too small to bring in the large expos. We need something like the Great columbus Convention Center or similar in size. It's proximity to I-80, US-23, I-75 makes it a convenient location for travelers to access. The former Clarion Hotel could be brought back to life along with the other vacant commercial and residential properties. I know some of the larger boat, RV, and home builder expos bring in millions of dollars to the surrounding businesses when these shows come to town. Plus a lot of these shows are looking to smaller cities to house these events because the cost is much cheaper than the larger cities. I'm no expert but to me it seems to make sense.

Mudhen419
November 30th, 2011, 09:26 AM
sounds like a pretty good idea but i dont know how the city or or the people who run seagate would feel about this. I always hoped seagate would team up with the huntington center and have a few bigger expos that would use both the convention center and the arena for the same event. (im pretty sure the same guy manages both places) To bad cleveland already got the medical mart, would be a good centralized location for a facility like that. Anything at that site would be better than nothing though.

the detroit tigers return to toledo to play for the first time since 2000 and they will play for the first time ever at fifth third field. this is a long time coming and will definitely be a hot ticket now that the tigers are good.. I recall the hens actually beat the tigs in one of these games back in the 90's when the tigs were a joke of a team! I've been wanting them to bring this game back ever since they built fifth third and finally my wish came true!
