Pembroke Castle has been around since the 11th century AD and was initially a large wooden fort. The stone structure you see in this picture was built around 700 years ago. The castle was the birthplace of King Henry VII in 1457 AD.
The castle is no longer a royal residence and much of the damage to the castle was sustained in the English civil war when the Lord Protector, Oliver Cromwell demanded that the castle be torn down. Unfortunately for him, the castle proved to be too-well built and fortified to be substantially ruined.
