Cali (Santiago de Cali)

Santiago de Cali (IPA: [sanˈtjaɰo ð̞e ˈkali]), often shortened to Cali (IPA: [ˈkali]), is the main city, municipality and capital of the Valle del Cauca Department in western Colombia. It was founded July 25, 1536 by Spanish conqueror Sebastián de Belalcázar.

The name Santiago de Cali comes in one part to honour Saint James the apostle (Santiago in Spanish) whose feast day is celebrated on July 25. About the word Cali there are several opinions about its possible origin. Some attribute it to a mispronunciation of the word "Lili", the name of a local tribe. Others believe that the word "Cali" has quechua origin, and it was brought by the Yanaconas Indians that came from Quito serving Sebastián de Belalcázar. This theory is reinforced from the fact that near Quito there is an indigenous town named Cali Cali.

the skyscraper are pretty old. Any way, the skyine looks very nice. At least, Cali gets taller buildings than lima, which is good. i wish lima has a skyscrapers boom as exactly as 4 years ago....

Great Skyline... 7,5/10

Cali is a beautiful city, but it certainly needs more highrises because the Torre de Cali is standing all alone. There are probably only 3 or 4 more buildings with 25+ floors in the entire city.
Though, some of Cali hotels and residential complexes have got a good number of floors, it's not that the city has no highrises at all.

9/10- growing up here was the best. the city actually has alot of high rises and even more mid rises but there scattered throughout the city in "hotspots". if they were all centralized, it would be breathtaking.

Cali is a nice city. the photos are wonderful. :dance: Aunque sin salsa, no sería Cali.

it has a statue of jesus called cristo rey (~30 mts) on a mountain and a memorial to jesus's death of 3 crosses of reinforced cocrete (the tallest one being ~30 mts) on top of another mountain.

The city I was born! I can't wait for my visit anytime soon!

Anyway the skyline is nothing special really but the people there are very special. The skyline is average. So I give it a 6/10.

I love the tall tower though. Good looking building.

Anyway I want to ask some questions,

Are there new developments happening in the city? I know the economy is not doing that well as it did in the 70's but what about residential towers? Any new ones above 30 floors in the skyline?

There's a 28floor high condo tower, down in the south of the city, so it wouldn't sum to the Downtown skyline.

I'll make a thread in the Infraestructure sub-forum in the Colombia forum with the main proyects and a map of where the proyects will be done. The development is mostly in the southern part of cali (residencial; i live there) and it's pretty dense. also there's alot of development along the mountains and there are 8 proyects in the downtown area.
