Port Moresby

Population: 254,158

Port Moresby or Pot Mosbi in Tok Pisin, population 255,000 (2000), is the capital and largest city of Papua New Guinea (PNG). The city is located on the shores of the Gulf of Papua, on the southeastern coast of the island of New Guinea.

The area on which the city was founded has been inhabited by the Motu-Koitabu people for centuries. It was first sighted by a European in 1873 by Captain John Moresby. It was named in honour of his father Admiral Sir Fairfax Moresby.

For such a poor country, and a small city, has a great skyline, and good to see new buildings going up!

The capitol of New Guinea is Port Moresby with a population counting 190 000. In the late 80s and 90s a skyline grew up in this poor city. Wrote it? :)

hm, the skyline is quite nice for such a smal and poor city, and fits well to the scenery aroung the city center. Still it could be better. 6/10

How interesting that the taller buildings are located near sea level. Seems the most vulnerable part of the peninsula. Looks beautiful and probably a great vacation spot. However, few medium height buildings so I can only rate a 3.5.

There are hundreds of nice beaches where you can swim in PNG

However the main beach which you can see in these photos (Ela Beach) by the skyline is not a good beach for swimming.

It is said to be a bit dirty.

Only reason I even looked up Port Moresby is because of the banner up today....I was literally dumbfounded..... because you/I never really think of Papua New Guinea as having skyscrapers......even though I've honestly never looked for pics of the city......based off of stereotypes of the country itself.....:ohno:.....

So I must I have to give it a 7/10......partially out of my own bias/stereotypes, partially b/se its never been on my radar screen to look for pics of it, and partially b/se any city with hills near the water always gets great scenery, and partially b/se its not that bad looking skyline........so yeah..........nice pics of Port Moresby....its now on my "urban radar" screen ...... so great :)

I always thought PNG was a backwards, poor place (no offense to anyone from there). However I think that the city of Port Moresby looks really nice, and the skyline isn't too bad either. 6/10 for the skyline.
