Ditto what everyone else has said..

I've been to Ottawa and it is the most beautiful city in N.America I've yet seen - but the skyline is non-existant ...

If it were for aesthetics - I'd give Ottawa pretty much 10/10 ..

For the Toronto Forumers, the reason Ottawa has no height is due to the Height restriction put in place to protect the view of the parliment buildings. Otherwise, it would be much larger, but the thing that never stops impressing me is that every time i visit the city there is a somthing new! There is a really nice building going up there, called Metropole and i belive they just opened some new overpasses on the 417! Very nice city ! 8.5/10 !

if CNtowers posts of ignorance hadn't been deleted from this thread you wouldn't think i was over reacting

True, Ottawa has not much of a skyline, but it doesnt lack density, something CN tower has used as a point to try to piss me off

If you're going to critisize my city, he should at least have a brain first

I miss home (sniff). I gave it 7.5 but that was generous. The density is good but apart from the historical buildings (19th and early 20th century) the architecture tends to be bland. Lots of badly executed International Modernism. Looks like the result of Public Works demanding maximum allowable square footage at the lowest possible price. The skyline needs more variety, height, historical contextualization (NCC HQ is good), point towers!! Let's hope all goes well with the proposal for 150 Elgin; it's a step in the right direction. Claridge's proposals for the Lebreton Flats, however, are not. Major disappointment. Does the city have a design committee? 10/10 for physical setting.

the city its self is fantastic looking , but the skyline, well its not the good. the rest of the city is a 10. i give the skyline a 6.5 because for the size of the city it is to short and not that big for a canadian city of 1 millon.

pleas don get me wrong i think this is a fantastic looking city. skylines are not the only thing we can find apealing about the looks of a certin city. as for the city in question, there is a lot to be said. the old buildings in Ottawa are killer. like one other former said its a tossup between Q city and Ottawa. how much nicer than that can u get. cities like calgary have a great skyline for 1 million, but they will never have the old city like them two cities have. so, i think that is an advantage, because in the future it may also have a kick ass skyline, but calgary wont have a kick ass old city.

I spent four months in this city and all I can say is that there is something abnormal about this place. Something strange. You see the parliament building and all the skyscrapers around it and than on 5 minutes walk you go to byward market and crappy areas around it. I mean cmon isnt it a bit disappointing for the capital of Canada which is one of the richest countries. Some of the embassies are located in the middle of residential area and you see homeless ppl literally a few blocks from the parliament.

Another surprising thing was that city was so open, hardly any visible security. Could go within meters of pretty much any embassy and govt building.

I was there during the whole summer and I didnt see many foriegn tourists. There were foriengers but most for work not tourism. But despite all that I liked that ppl were much more friendly than other parts of Canada (and by other parts i mean GTA... lol).

Ottawa has a very urban feel at street level.

Because of its height restriction there are no "pinnacles" in its skyline...none-the-less it has consistent height hovering between 80-110 m.

...You really need to look up and around to notice you're not in Toronto (with regards to height).

Ottawa is a small city. This city isn't about tall skyscrapers and it shouldn't try to impress by building them. It will never match the Hong Kongs and Torontos of this world by building tall. Ottawa impresses with it's setting, it's elegance, it's canal, monuments, museums, and grand buildings. The gothic revival of the Parliament buildings is beautiful and the Canadian chateau style of the Chateau Laurier, is a uniquely Canadian architecture.

Ottawa would do well to continue with this architecture and build office towers that pay hommage to this rather than the typical office block one can see in a hundred other cities. This is a capital and it should strive for something a cut above and something not found elsewhere. 400-600 foot Canadian chateau style/office block hybrids would definitely compliment what is already there. It would also be unique in the world.

Agree. I wish, however, they'd take more direction architecturally from the Parliament buildings, the Chateau Laurier, and the Supreme Court. The capital should be special. Ottawa should make more of an effort to create something unique rather than duplicating the same architecture we see in the rest of the nation.

Agreed.Thrilling if height was a wee bit higher.

7.5 Ottawa has some very beautiful architecture some of the best in Canada and in North America. The height restriction kinda messes up the skyline height wise bu that's not what Ottawa is about any way.

Just got back from there. What a grand, stately, fabulously beautiful city! Wellington Street, the Rideau Canal, the Parliament buildings high on that cliff, the park lands, etc. Ottawa is a gem.

I loved how bilingual Ottawa is too. Magnifique!
