^^ maraming ginawa dyan hehe.

Looks like DOF was faked. background was cut and then, blurred. As for the color, a desaturation layer was added then a warm photo filter layer was also added.

masyadong mahaba ang step-by-step instruction hehe.

Here's what I did for the background pic....

Open the picture
Then click Image on the menu bar then point to Mode then click on Grayscale.
After the image has been Grayscaled, click back to Image then Mode then click RGB mode.
After that, go back to Image menu and click adjustments, click Color Balance...experiment what color do you like to dominate your image.
After that, click Filter menu then point to Artistic then click Cutout.

Actually, you can photoshop a picture in several ways and still produce the same outcome.

this one is a basic sample of a PP:

http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b332/ashley_30303/SSC%20Junk/DSC_3372_049ed.jpg

composed of two layers
one is in SEPIA and the other is COLORED
SEPIA picture is on the top while COLORED is on the bottom
use ERASE icon for erasing the kalesa so it will reveal only the colored pic.

haha buti naman nakatulong ako... yes it takes time before you finally discover the simpliest process. :D

Thanks for sharing Ash! Btw, itong erase, kailangan mo bang magzoom ng todo na makikita mo na ang pixels?

you can do that para mas clean ang pag erase.

sometimes what i do is I lower the percentage of the OPACITY of the upper pic so that I can see the outline of the lower pic... hehe gets niyo. basta ganun. :D

pwede din put the whole picture in sepia (or desaturated, photo-filter, or whatever effect you'd like) tapos use history brush on the part of the picture that you wish to emphasize...and voila!

how do you make GIF/animation by layering different pics? i tried watching those tutorials in youtube but it was really hard to execute especially when saving it.

Also, my very basic way of sharpening an image:

1. Open image
2. Duplicate layer
3. Change layer mode from normal to "vivid light". Pwede rin "overlay" or "hard light". Experiment lang.
4. Go to the filter menu -> other -> high pass.
5. Enter 1 - 4 sa value. Experiment lang.

1.) How do you make it SEPIA?
2.) What are layers? How do you make LAYERS?

for sepia:
go to
IMAGE - ADJUSTMENTS - PHOTO FILTER
then highlight the category SEPIA

or

you can manipulate the color through
IMAGE - ADJUSTMENTS - SELECTIVE COLOR

or

IMAGE - ADJUSTMENTS - VARIATIONS

and so on and so forth

LAYERS:

Layers are like transparencies stacked one on top of one another. Each layer can have different images and effects. When the layers are stacked, the images appear as if they are all a single image.

go to MENU - WINDOW - then check LAYER

I think the best way is:

1. Image>Adjustments>Hue/Saturation (or simply Ctrl+U)
2. Check "colorize"
3. Move the "Hue" slider at your pleasure

you can do more than just sepia :D

I actually forgot the actual steps because I would usually just tweak around photoshop and would stop I'm satisfied. The run down of how I did that was:

I had 2 photos. One of the dark sky and one of a sunset shot with the girl in the foreground and a clear sky on the background.
First, I had to paste the dark sky onto the sunset beach shot and used a layer mask to merge the photos to where they meet (you could also do that with an erase brush with 10-50% transparency). Next, I set the brightness/contrast and levels of both layers to match the lighting then I merge them.

Then, I duplicate the layer and adjusted the hue/saturation (with colorize checkbox checked) to get the sepia colors. Also adjusted the opacity of the duplicate layer to 80-95% and erased the part over the t-shirt of the girl (using layer mask or erase tool) to bring out the pink color of the t-shirt.

Finally did some finishing touches on the levels and brightness/contrast. I'm sorry if its a bit confusing, I hope it helps though but just tell me if there's a part that needs clarification.

pano ile-layer? kasi pag new layer blank yung lumalabas.

another method would be to use Adjustment Layers, that way, you preserve the original layer in case you need it sometime later.....and you only need to play with the adjustment settings later on....

you could even use layer masking to apply the specific adjustment layer on only a certain portion of your picture, instead of making a new layer based on that picture and using photo filters....

Choose Layer>New Adjustment Layer>Select the adjustment that you want....

If you want to apply to specific area with a certain shape, make sure that you already have a layer with the desired shape (may be a vector layer with a shape in it or any other imported layer with an abstract/irregular shape)... and then place it under the adjustment layer, then right click on the vector/shape layer first, select make clipping mask (tama nga ba? or create clipping mask? basta yung "clipping mask") and then do the same with the adjustment layer above your vector/shape layer....

you can even group together the adjustment and vector/shape layer so that if you need to apply it on another psd file, you only need to drag and drop, or duplicate if to be used with the same psd file....

the use of layer adjustments combined with layer clipping with gradient fill layers can make gradient-coloring with gradient-transparency-effect.... hehehe...

madalas kasi ako ang tagagawa ng tarpaulin ng aming organization.... kaya napaglalaruan ko ang photoshop... kaya nagbabagal-bagal na etong pc namin... hahaha

How do you create HDR pictures by the way?

AFAIK, you need several shots of the same scene/subject with different settings... right ba? sino ba nakapagtry na.... nakakatamad eh... hehehe

Yes, adjustment layers are very handy since you can readjust values and masking anytime. You can easily add an adjustment layer by clicking that circle-in-a-box button at the bottom of the the layers panel. Unfortunately I can't find any adjustment layer for shadow/highlights..

HDR.. you should use a tripod. Take three or more shots (low, medium, and high exposure) from the same angle. I use EV adjustments (-2.0, 0, +2.0) in my point-and-shoot cam to adjust the exposure. Then process these images in photoshop. It's somewhere in the automate menu.. forgot na.http://www.upvisayas.net/forum/Smileys/classic/ashamed.gif I only did this once kasi nakakatamad nga.

This is almost the same as Ash's technique but instead of erasing, i used Masking in the second layer to extract the colored parts i want. and then copy-pasted to the original, desaturized, color-balanced image. Masking is a very nice tool to learn in photoshop.

thats the fastes way nga...

also, another way para mag sepia, choose Layers>New Adjustment Layer>Sepia... and ikaw na bahala... hehehe

anyway, eto nga pala yung example ko na lang.. hehe, banner ng website namin....

starting pic(resized para example lang naman):
http://nor.zorpia.com/0/4383/28057443.68d5b1.jpg

made a copy.... then applied hue-saturation adjustment layer....
http://nor.zorpia.com/0/4383/28057478.c71f79.jpg

and then here's the tricky part.... i have this masking layer....(again, resized and its supposed to be separate shapes, pinagsamasama ko na lang muna)
http://nor.zorpia.com/0/4383/28057483.e89c0b.jpg

^^ now each sub-shape has its own Brightness/Contrast Adjustment layer masked on it.... and then i applied clipping mask with the image layer....
http://nor.zorpia.com/0/4383/28057488.b90af4.jpg

and the with the original... had to select the a certain area....layered by copy
http://nor.zorpia.com/0/4383/28057433.f73f5a.jpg

and then applied Brightness/Contrast Adjustment layer again...with clipping mask
http://nor.zorpia.com/0/4383/28057416.bc5808.jpg

returned visibility with the original layer...
http://nor.zorpia.com/0/4383/28057473.88b76a.jpg

and then applied the styled layer....
http://nor.zorpia.com/0/4383/28057452.6ac091.jpg

and since i still had other banners to make with the same styling... instead of doing the same process all over... (again for the nth time repeatedly redundant....) ... kinopya (drag&drop) ko na lang yung styling layer at pinalitan lang ang background and edited the Hue/Saturation setting to come up with the same effect sa ibang banners....
http://nor.zorpia.com/0/4384/28057698.aff8ba.jpg
http://nor.zorpia.com/0/4384/28057703.3a7324.jpg

:bash:yeah yeah, i know ang papangit nung shots, hahaha, yan lang ang available sakin for now... can i (hire? walang budget... hahaha) ask someone here kuhanan mo naman kami ng pics ohhh... hehehehe

Cool. what's the step-by-step technique?

That's a bit hard, my problem is i don't know what to call the tools, but here we go...

1. open the image (this will be shown as the Background in the Layers
window)

2. copy the background to a second layer (click Rectangular Marquee Tool at the Tools window then click-hold-drag to the whole image, hit Ctrl+C (copy)
then Ctrl+V (paste), a new layer will be added with the copied image)

3. time for masking:

a. click at the layer for masking

b. click at the the magic wand tool in the tools window (this is may
favorite tool for the task, you can use whatever you find that will work
for you)

c. click on the areas of the image you want, hold down shift if you want
multiple areas (experiment and experiment how tolerance setting
affects this. you will see the selection is not in any way perfect, it will
end up selecting areas you don't want, hayaan nyo muna, this is where
editing in Quick Mask Mode enters)

d. hit the Edit in Quick Mask Mode button at the tools window, I found
this just below the foreground/background color setting buttons, yes
the one that looks like a japanese flag, actually two of them, the other
is for Edit in Standard mode. Or you can just hit "Q" to toggle between
the two editing modes. after you hit the one for quick mask you'll
notice the image is covered in opaque red except for the areas you
selected. do more of hitting Q to see how it works.

e. while you are in the Edit in Quick Mask mode click the Brush tool or hit
"B" and try brushing on the selected areas you don't want, you'll see
they'll be also covered in red, you can also change brush size, hardness,
opacity and flow. now you can just paint in red the areas you don't
want selected. to check from time to time which areas are "painted" or
not just hit the Q key to see the marquee. now if you accidentally
painted the selected areas, no worries, just hit the X key to toggle
background and foreground color. do a bit of experiment on this one. it
is very handy in refining your selection.

f. after refining your selection and you are sure the parts you don't want
are painted in red, hit the Q button to see the marquee and then hit
Ctrl-C then Ctrl-V. the selected areas are now pasted in a new layer.
check if it is really what you want, you can always Undo your work
(Ctrl+Z or Ctrl+Alt+Z).

g. if you don't want the layer you put you mask on you can delete it.

4. Now select the background image and desaturate, then use color balance to make a sepia effect. you'll see the layer you selected in mask remains in its original color.

Whew! now these are the steps that work for me. i am no expert. baka yung iba makakapagturo ng mas madaling technique e di mas OK. If ever something is wrong please point out.

One more... do more experimentation on the brush tool while on Quick Mask Mode. experiment on the opacity, hardness and flow then do a copy/paste each time, you'll see useful effects. you can even mask strands of hair...

True, pero walang Adobe ImageReady CS3. Somehow nasa Photoshop CS3 na ang ImageReady features kaya mas prefer ko pa rin ang PS and IR CS2 combo.

at eto naman ang sharpening technique na ginagamit ko:

1. Open image
2. Go to Filter>Sharpen>Unsharp Mask... (now don't be fooled by how it is called.. dahil di ko rin alam kung bakit ganyan ang tawag )
3. Experiment changing the values of Amount, Radius and Threshold (ang favorite kong setting is Amount=130%, Radius=5.0 pixels and Threshold=3 levels... sa observation ko, every image has it's own setting requirement dito... experiment until you are satisfied with what you want to see)
4. Click OK

...I always use Save As... to make sure I don't mess up the original image...

Yeah, sometimes I also use Unsharp Mask. And I really make sure na hindi magalaw ang original file para may backup pa ako for future use. :D

This is almost the same as Ash's technique but instead of erasing, i used Masking in the second layer to extract the colored parts i want. and then copy-pasted to the original, desaturized, color-balanced image. Masking is a very nice tool to learn in photoshop.

http://i155.photobucket.com/albums/s282/aldrinbee/Serendra01a.jpg

What exactly is masking pala? I've read a lot of tutorials about post-processing images and halos lahat may step that involves masking. 'Yun nga lang, 'di ko alam kung pano magmasking. :) EDIT: Ay you posted it na pala. Thanks!!! :D

^^ usually people use Adobe Illustrator, it's easier but I don't know how with it haha.

In photoshop (this is one of the many ways)...

just open the picture you want to vectorize
create a new layer
select the pen tool
trace the parts individually with pen tool
right click, make selection then fill the parts with the color you want
voila! :) you have a picture.

vince_rilian
May 29th, 2008, 08:41 AM

maybe you could posterize the photo first....... then edit whatever part of the image you want... to your desired look...

just hit the download button and then you'll have a zip file containing simple step by step procedure in producing a vector art... try it... very helpful...

i followed each step and made this vector piece of my kids..

from this...

Okay here's the body sculpting/retouching tutorial...

DISCLAIMER: highly imperfect and practice is a must

1. Open a nice clean image, as much as possible no noise
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v147/merri_bat/body%20tutorial/1.jpg
2. I duplicated the image, so if I create a mistake, it would be easy to discard
then I selected the clone stamp tool. What the clone stamp does is to duplicate a part of the image and transfer it to another part. The healing brush does the same with the addition of automatically blending the background with the transferred part. This is good in covering blemishes, wrinkles, dark spots and much more...Patch Tool and other selection tools are great alternatives for this
*Alt Click for the part you want to copy
*click it to the part you to cover up
experimenting and going crazy is okay, you'll reach the results you want through that
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v147/merri_bat/body%20tutorial/3.jpg
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v147/merri_bat/body%20tutorial/5.jpg
3. I selected the smudge tool to blend the cover ups and the blemishes with her skin tone
4. Liquify :) Filter>Liquify. This tool would be equivalent to a surgeon's knife, literally sucking the fat out or making things look bigger
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v147/merri_bat/body%20tutorial/6.jpg
5. 4 main tools I'm using in the liquify box
*. pucker tool- to pucker the fats in, or slim her down. I clicked this tool and move it at the edges of her shoulders and waist
*. bloat tool- to literally bloat things up. I selected this tool then clicked it around her chest area to make it look fuller
*. freeze mask tool- it's a mask to cover up things you want to keep while using your bloat and pucker tools
*. thaw mask too- to erase the freeze mask once you're done with your job
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v147/merri_bat/body%20tutorial/7.jpg
6. I realized that her singit in the arm looks distorted...Good thing I duplicated the retouched layer before liquifying it.
I made the liquified layer invisble by clicking the eye on the layer box beside it. Now, I have only the original and the retouched layer visible.
I then selected the clean singit on the retouched layer and duplicated it using any of the selection tools (marquee, lasso tools). That layer will be at the top of my layer set
I then merged it with the liquified layer, then use the smudge tool to blend it with her arm
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v147/merri_bat/body%20tutorial/8.jpg
7. I also want her bust to look fuller afterall this is for a men's magazine. I already did the basics with the liquify tool, shadows and lines need to be emphasized particularly her cleavage so...
I selected the pen tool and drew a straight line in her bust area, created a new layer.
Then I clicked the brush tool to find a suitable brush to line her cleavage
The pen tool was reselected again. Right clicked the image>stroke path, make sure that is stimulate pressure box is ticked...
To assimilate the line to the rest of her body, I changed the blending option of that layer to overlay and adjust the opacity until I got the result.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v147/merri_bat/body%20tutorial/9.jpg
8. To smoothen her skin, using the smart selection tool or magic wand tool...I selected her whole skin area and made a new layer out of it...
then Filter> Gaussian blur or Surface blur. Make sure that the digits are farely low, roughly around 2-5... to have an even and smooth finish
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v147/merri_bat/body%20tutorial/11.jpg
9. I selected her whole body using the lasso tool, inversed the selection, created a new layer and filled the background with black
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v147/merri_bat/body%20tutorial/final.jpg

You could air brush her skin with black and white to add some shadows. Remember to change the blending modes and opacity of the layers to get a more finished look :)

sista
May 29th, 2008, 09:16 AM
Here's another tutorial that I made this time regarding light effects :)

1. Start with a new document, any size you like. Fill the background layer with BLACK and duplicate it.

2. In the second layer, Filter>lens fare, I did the 105 mm on this one with default settings
http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y214/polabola/105mmprime.jpg
3. Now for the filtering, Filter>Distort>Twirl, I usually start with this step because it smoothens and makes the lines more free flowing
http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y214/polabola/twirl.jpg
4. Filter>Distort>polar coordinates, rectangular to polar, this option is good for making circular patterns
http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y214/polabola/polarcoordinatespolar.jpg
5. Duplicated the layer and erased some parts, I did in case I wouldn't want the outcome
http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y214/polabola/erased.jpg
6. I duplicated the erased layer, erased some more and set it to screen, and all three layers look like this
http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y214/polabola/duplicatepolarx.jpg
7. I repeaed steps 4 to 5 transferring from rectangular to polar and polar to rectangular (all in the Polar Coordinates Filter)
8. Afterwhich, I decided to make it a little electrifying by selecting the Wave Filter. I made two layers out of it.
http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y214/polabola/wave.jpg
9. I colored the upper Wave layer through Image>adjustements>hue and saturation. I adjusted the Hue panel to get the color I desire
http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y214/polabola/colorized.jpg
10. set the bottom layer to lighten and the top layer to color dodge to intensify the electric look while adjusting the opacity of the layers. If you want a plain waved look, just settle for screen or lighten
http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y214/polabola/colordodge.jpg
upper layer
http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y214/polabola/lighten.jpg
bottom layer
11. I then merged the two layers to get a more finished look and duplicated the original polar coordinates layer so the designs would be more visible
http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y214/polabola/merge.jpg
12. Add the hottie/picture of your choice and blend it in, my personal preference is of course LDW hahaha and I added a gradient layer to create a finished and put together look
http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y214/polabola/addahotie.jpg
13. Flatten image and play with the Curves/selective color modes of the IMAGE menu
14. Finished product
http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y214/polabola/leedw.jpg

wynngd
August 3rd, 2008, 04:09 AM
If you're getting an error message that the scratch disk is full, it means you need to clear some space on whatever drive is defined as the scratch disk in Photoshop Preferences, or add additional drives for Photoshop to use as scratch space.

It is also possible to get the "scratch disk is full" error, even if the scratch disk drive has free space. This is because Photoshop requires contiguous, unfragmented free space on the scratch disk drive. If you are getting the "scratch disk is full" error message and your scratch disk drive does show a good amount of free space, you may need to run a disk defragmentation utility. See How to Defragment Your Hard Drive for Windows or Defragment and Cleanup Utilities for Macintosh.

from http://graphicssoft.about.com/od/photoshop/f/scratchdisk.htm

http://img.villagephotos.com/p/2006-8/1206944/ViganColFinal.jpg

and then photoshop it again to make it look like a worn out sepia original......

http://img.villagephotos.com/p/2006-8/1206944/ViganSepFinal.jpg

or a painting.......

http://img.villagephotos.com/p/2006-8/1206944/Katipaint.jpg

You can even take an old Manila BW photo.......

http://img.villagephotos.com/p/2008-7/1316846/VistaBW.jpg

colorize it with photoshop.....

http://img.villagephotos.com/p/2006-8/1206944/Image1.jpg

then add on your pictures......

http://img.villagephotos.com/p/2006-8/1206944/AS.jpg

and also make it look like a painting.........

http://img.villagephotos.com/p/2008-7/1316846/Adviser.jpg

or a printed poster, this one is my idea of period advertising for the 1930s China Clipper flying boat air service to Manila.

http://img.villagephotos.com/p/2008-7/1316846/VistaManilaClipFinal3.jpg

These photoshop works have military themes because I'm into Philippine military history reenacting, but you can also do non-military historical themes as long as you have the right period costume to superimpose on old photos or even new pictures of historic places. Just make sure the lighting of your figures correspond with the picture you are using as the background. Enjoy time travelling!

You have to think about your pose. If you want to look like you're driving the car then it's difficult.

The easiest way would have been to compose the picture as if you are standing next to the front bumper with your right foot stepping on the hood. Kaya lang, there's no space to put your image in that spot because of the low wall and plants.

Just take another shot of yourself in a right-side view seating position with the camera on a slightly high angle.

^^ aside from photoshop, are there other softwares that can be downloaded? yung free

Very informative/productive subject, Photoshop is highly recommendable program and so useful in almost any graphics. In fact all Adobe programs are very effective tools with many functions.

Another program with free version in Google is their GOOGLE SKETCH-UP.

http://www.google.com/sketchup/download/

Free version already creates wonder from children to professionals, only with some limitations like import/export. Probably for you to get the professional version. Free version has almost everything in learning.

You can relate it with other graphic program in 3D or simply with google earth.

However, Google has everything to help you guide to learn in their site.

I HOPE SOMEONE HAS THE PATIENCE TO TEACH HERE LIKE @ SISTA or @ VINCE_LIRIAN, Good works guys!

I just availed of HP's free online classes for Adobe Photoshop. Here, http://h30240.www3.hp.com/campuses/all_courses.jsp

You will receive a certificate with your name in it at the end of the free online class.

Now I have something to add in my resume under trainings/certifications.

Thanks for this info...imma try this

I know, putting in layers and layers of layouts can be a headache, especially for beginners. So I have high resolution PSD files with moveable layers.
40 DVDs of high quality pictures. Just click and drag, you'll create excellent albums in a short time.

Please contact me at 0919-3822332 or crocopie@gmail.com for sample pictures.

Thanks.

Been using GIMP for a long time but not proficient with it. Just a above average. I like the simplicity.

BTW, anybody here using LightRoom 3?
Seems alien to me. Just installed it. hmm

Lightroom 3 is really good. Played around with it (more of self discovery) But for sure I will try to look for some tutorials. Still having quite some issues with control, at times its lagging but overall its good. :okay:

As for ease of use I still give it to GIMP hands down (maybe I am quite biased here since I am using GIMP for a long time now.)

Just installed photoshop elements 8... lets see how this one goes. :)

Paano ginagawa un nagshshine ung mga ilaw sa poste?:nuts:

Not the photo owner here but if I may answer: You get these effects when you take long exposure photos (5 seconds or more, and the number of points or rays depends on the number of elements in your lens).

I'm sure there might also be ways to add them artificially with photoshop, but I'm just saying you can get them from the time you took the photo.
