Dayton

Population: 166,179 (Metro: 1,073,513)

Dayton is a city in and the county seat of Montgomery County, Ohio, United States, in the southwestern part of the state. The population was 166,179 at the 2000 census. The Dayton Metropolitan Statistical Area, which includes Montgomery, Miami, Greene, and Preble counties, had a population of 835,535 in 2007. This makes Dayton the 4th largest Metropolitan Area in Ohio. The Dayton-Springfield-Greenville Combined Statistical Area had a population of 1,085,094 in 2000. Dayton is situated within the Miami Valley region of Ohio, just north of the Cincinnati metropolitan area.

Dayton plays host to significant industrial, aerospace, and technological/engineering research activity and is known for the many technical innovations and inventions developed there. Much of this innovation is due in part to Wright-Patterson Air Force Base and its place within the community. The city was the home of the signing of the Dayton Peace Accords, which brought an end to the war in Bosnia. The Wright brothers, poet Paul Laurence Dunbar, and entrepreneur John H. Patterson were born in Dayton.

I have no idea where in the USA Dayton is and the skyline isn't exactly what you'd call impressive.

But it does look clean and peaceful - i'm sure it would be a nice place to live in.

Since there isn't much info in here on Dayton I will tell you what I know. Dayton is in the Southwest part of the state of Ohio in the Midwestern part of the United States. Dayton is 50 miles or so North of Cincinnati (maybe a little more than 50 miles). It is the birthplace of the Wright Brothers, Orville and Wilbur, who built the first working airplane. As far as business, NCR and Mead are based there. This is all I know about Dayton. Oh yeah...I think it is on the Miami River and the metro population is a little under a million.

The one picture that showed up when I tried to look gives me the impression of a tired and sparse skyline, and a declining city. I can't make an informed judgement until I see some more picture however.

I have a friend living in Dayton, or at least she used to until she went to college. She didn't really talk greatly about it, but I'll give it a 7, after checking it out at Emporis.com.

The skyline is not very good, but don't judge the whole city based on it. Dayton itself isn't too shabby. 4.5/10

I voted on this thread's previous incarnation, but since I lived there for three and a half years I'll restate that it sucks!! A radio station polled people on the best thing about Dayton, and the winner was that it's close to other cities!?! It's true, you can get to Downtown Cincinatti in less than an hour, two hours to Columbus, and 2 1/2 hours to Indianapolis.

I'm going to say that Dayton has a fairly impressive skyline compared to cities of similar size. The pictures on here aren't that good. I drive thru Dayton 5 days a week and it has a pretty good mix of medium sized buildings and density.

I go to school in Dayton and for a city with just under a million the skyline is pretty big. Plenty of modern boxes. A few modern buildings with some pryimids and other shapes. Plus lots of old victorian stlye buildings. Plus Dayton has one of the largest laser shows in any city. When looking at the city from the south the laser show makes the entire downtown just lit up. Here is a better pic of the skyline. I'll look for one including the laser show

Dayton is only about 1.5 hours from Indy. I just went through there on my way to Columbus a while back. It took me 3 hours to get to Columbus.
