Richmond is the center of the Richmond Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA) and the Greater Richmond area. Surrounded by Henrico and Chesterfield counties, the city is located at the intersections of Interstate 95 and Interstate 64, and surrounded by Interstate 295 and Virginia State Route 288 in central Virginia. The population was 200,123 in 2007, with an estimated population of 1,212,977 for the Richmond Metropolitan Area — making it the third largest in Virginia.

jtown, man February 21st, 2004, 05:25 PM I dont know. I look at the city and its blah! But, its in the south. And also when i look at it ...it looks pretty dense. So thats a BIG plus for me. I mean, skyline,7, but im sure it would be awesome at ground level. so over all...8
Schroedinger's Cat February 28th, 2004, 01:24 PM Very nice, I like it, thanks for pics:):)
8/10
Necker March 4th, 2004, 04:12 PM Lots of small boxes... but I still like it 6/10
cfx68 March 4th, 2004, 09:23 PM Richmond's skyline is unique compaired to most US cities, because it's very modest looking. I notice most of the scrapers are squared off and seem to keep a uniformed look. It's a beautiful skyline on its own.
padawan72 March 4th, 2004, 10:27 PM 4/10
Other american bunch of boxes, now appreciate much more NY and Chicago, not every gringo city is the same, and this is a good proof of it :D
Chibcha2k March 9th, 2004, 05:54 AM ehhmmmm..... well, not much to say . . . 6/10
JRQ June 30th, 2004, 04:02 AM Here is a photo that shows just how dense Richmond is-

I really like This Skyline.

4.5 out of 10
MattSal March 20th, 2005, 02:57 PM Very nice for a city of its size. I give it a 7.5/10. :okay:
Valia March 20th, 2005, 06:11 PM I like it 8/10
Sonic from Padova March 20th, 2005, 07:51 PM 8!
hauntedheadnc March 21st, 2005, 12:33 AM The density more impresses me than the design of any of the buildings themselves because as other have said, they're pretty bland and boxy. It's certainly not a bad skyline by any stretch of the imagination, however. 7. Nice, but not terribly remarkable.
MuddyZehbra32 March 21st, 2005, 01:02 AM mmmm. even though the first post has no pictures in it, i find that last pictures quite yummy. claps for richmond. :) 7.5
DarkFenX March 21st, 2005, 01:10 AM 8/10
SoboleuS March 21st, 2005, 11:36 AM It really dense, but quite flat... Looks good anyway ;) 7/10

verycoolnin August 10th, 2005, 06:22 AM Richmond all in all has a great skyline for its size. No building really stands out but the density of all the buildings together has a great effect. 8 of 10.
lesterZ August 10th, 2005, 07:10 AM Yeah, I remember this little guy surprised me when I saw it - 7/10
eweezerinc August 10th, 2005, 07:02 PM Always like the density, but BAH, who allowed there to not be any hint of wanting to be unique in design. Forgettable if it wern't for density. Somone says Richmond, I will say short and stalky.
7/10
newyorkrunaway1 August 13th, 2005, 08:36 AM 10/10, i just love richmond for some reason
Malo August 23rd, 2005, 07:39 PM Very dense, very modern, very big for a city its size. Makes every other city with a metro population of one million envious.
I give it an 8.5..
Roekie August 24th, 2005, 02:35 PM Quite okay, but nothing special
6.5
Whiked918 August 25th, 2005, 07:39 AM I give it a 6.5. It's nice and simple. Not every city needs a Sears Tower.

weill October 13th, 2005, 04:41 AM Richmonds skyline is very dense but there is one problem, the city seems dead when your walking, you seem like the only one there...maybe the high crime rate has people scared i dont know,...but all in all richmond is a great city 8/10
Gordon Freeman October 13th, 2005, 04:56 AM Half decent for a city its size, yes indeed not too chabby. problems are tho it lacks height, and the city only has around 60 high rises, architecture is old and boring, night shots were nice, still tho not bad for a city that size
5.9/10
latin22 November 25th, 2005, 12:07 PM A very ugly skyline, only about (exaggerating) 4 buildings ... but at ground level or in person, unlike what many people think, its even worse, it is poor and gray...and there are many stores that are closed, its empty...I would give it a minus 10 but I can't so I give it a 0. Lived there 5 years. Not going back ever again.NOt to be mean, but its very dissapointing.
LouisvilleJake November 27th, 2005, 03:55 AM 5.5
Could they maybe get a building that is not a simple box?
JRQ November 30th, 2005, 04:34 AM I personally liked Richmond. Unfortunately, the city has suffered from poor leadership for the past few years. But I do see Richmond rebounding very soon; it already has to a certain extent.

usermel April 5th, 2009, 09:57 AM Richmonds skyline is very dense but there is one problem, the city seems dead when your walking, you seem like the only one there...maybe the high crime rate has people scared i dont know,...but all in all richmond is a great city 8/10
When I was a kid I went to Richmond and it seemed big for a city its size in terms of the downtown. Dense more than tall in terms of skyscrapers which makes it seem as if the buildings arent as tall as most cities. That said, Richmond has a dense skyline especially in person. The downtown when I was a kid was alot more busy with people shopping and working. Urban flight has created the problem in most urban cities like Richmond that thrived in the early century until the 1970's/1980's!
As a kid Richmond had crime problems when I visited family there but, its worse now. Most the people there are good people though but, gangs are getting worse in all of the state of Virginia like Norfolk/Va Beach were I live. Back to Richmond, urban flight and crime has caused the empty feel but, thats what the eye sees. Truth is Richmond is a very important U.S city. Most dont know it because theres no pro team etc.. located in Virginia but, Richmond is the number 6th ranked U.S city for Fortune 500 companies having a total of nine headquartered in Richmond and 13 total with offices in Richmond as well. Richmond also has 1 of the federal reserve banks located in the city among its judicial importance in the court systems as well. More to this city than even I knew until a year ago and I was proud a Virginia city was this important in Government! :):):)
usermel April 5th, 2009, 10:02 AM 7.5 is my score for the skyline by the way!!! Forgot to score it!!
Elvenking April 5th, 2009, 01:43 PM I give 8, nice, tidy skyline, but nothing special - 6 for skyline, +2 for being capital of Confederacy
usermel April 5th, 2009, 06:08 PM Great place to go to school and find employment afterward and not have to move depending on what you major in during college!!! L.G.N.M
JRQ April 5th, 2009, 06:30 PM Actually the crime in Richmond is the lowest it's been in three decades (recorded and true, btw), and the population has actually grown for the first time in decades, to 203,000 according to the 2008 census report. Plus I went to Richmond about 2 months ago, and I would like to know where it seemed dead. As I walked along the streets in the capitol district, people were everywhere, especially in the business district. Then the VCU area alone has tons of people walking around.
TruthSeeker April 5th, 2009, 07:50 PM Richmond is a very very boring city.. if it wasn't for VCU the downtown area would be dead. The suburbs of Richmond are really spread out.. the city fits anybody that has a family and just wants to take it slow otherwise not much there.. i lived there for a year.

usermel January 24th, 2010, 08:14 AM Richmonds skyline looks dense and established. It has a charecter to its skyline like other older U.S cities that have been around since the 1700's. The skyline is quite dense with enough new skyscrapers(1980's-present) to give it a new flavor with the established charecter of the city!! L.G.N.M
