According to Wikipedia, it will be the first football staidum owned by a club(Kaizer Chiefs) when it's completed. Surprisingly this gorgeous stadium is not the host venue for 2010 WC because two other stadiums in Johannesburg already took the honor of hosting.

As one of Korean football fans, I'm familiar with the club because it had come to Korea to participate in Peace Cup in summer 2003.

Below are the renderings from Kaizer Chiefs homepage.

This picture might be taken in groundbreaking ceremony. But unfortunenately there's no more picture afterwards. Any South African users, I want you to share with us some construction webcams if you have

this stadium also wont be ready in time for the WC. Also the location is'nt ideal for thousands of international fans.

Glad to see our local teams getting some international exposure :) Also later on in July Chiefs will be playing Manchester United here in SA along with another local club Orlando Pirates in the Vodacom Challenge Cup.

Oh & just another piece of info, the band Kaiser Chiefs from UK, named their band after this football team because their idol from Leeds Utd Lucas Radebe started off with Chiefs.

Any news about this stadium? I really wonder what it looks like at the moment. Definately, it seems the groundbreaking already happened, but unfortunately there isn't just a single bit of update about the status after that in Kaizer Chiefs homepage, let alone construction pics or webcams.

It is assumed months have passed since the groundbreaking for building a 55K brand new stadia, but, there isn't a single piece of construction photo. I don't understand it. Maybe it is a national secret project? :)

Lydon

I don't think it will be finished by then. Plenty of other stadiums to use as training venues though. Stadiums is one thing we definitely don't lack number-wise.

Fantastic to see what's going on in SA. It's one thing to build 5 new stadiums and refurbish 5 more for a world cup - it's another to build more than are needed (this is the second I've heard of now that is big and good enough to host world cup fixtures but is outside the bid). Fantastic stuff. Really raising the bar.

There are far better venues than this one not being used . Durban and Cape Town are already complaining that they havent recieved enough games!

It's really bizarre that nobody has found any construction pics or webcams for Amakhosi Stadium since I opened this thread about half a year. This must be a top secret project. If it's revealed to the public, we might see the last day of human history.

They better not have cancelled Amakhosi Stadium. This stadium should have opened in the Summer of 2010. I don't know what the current status of the stadium is, though.

Tried to get the info from Neturena, There is a problem with raising funds for this project, there is some rumours going around that tendering had left a lot to be desired, with the tender being awarded to the member of the family. Not sure if its true

But basically its halted until funds have been raised to start the project.

im not happy about the location of the stadium as well. Mogale city of all the places

:omg:Just thinking hasn't Jo'burg now got an over supply of stadiums? if Soccer City is for soccer & Ellis Park rugby, then does that mean this one will just sit there and look flash. Fantastic job:banana: SA in building all those stunning stadiums, the world is amazed but don't you think you're now taking it abit to far? Stadia poor countries like New Zealand must be so envious:tongue:

It is a dream of the chairman, Mr Kaizer Motoung, for the club, Kaizer Chiefs, to have a stadium a club will call its own. Soccer City is a national association stadium.

Will it get built though? Looks good, but it is a bit grandiose, I mean it would be a bigger and better stadium than many European clubs have.

Chiefs` stadium back on track
Kaizer Chiefs' controversial stadium project is set to resume after the club's football manager Bobby Motaung revealed investment has been secured.

In 2006, the Soweto giants unveiled ambitious plans to build a new multi-purpose venue in Mogale City in Krugersdorp. But Lefika Emerging Equity, the company that won the tender to construct the 55 000-seater Amakhosi Stadium, failed to raise the R1,2-billion required to start the project.

Motaung told Football365.co.za that the stadium is back on track although there is no chance it will be completed by April 2010, as the club had initially announced.

"We were to get funding ourselves and we had challenges there," explained Motaung.

"We had two models; one to get a bond and another was a listing model, to go public.

"It was going to be a straight in terms of the loan funding and the public listing route was the best option at the time, because we could get public participation from our supporters. But obviously things in the economy went bad and we had to put the project on hold - with the building of the 2010 World Cup stadiums, prices were escalating.

"But we've got funding at the moment from some overseas investors and we are still finalising the deal. We will make an announcement when the stadium starts construction. We are on track and it won't be long," Motaung added.

Lefika is co-owned by Motaung, who also sits on the board of the company that has been mired in scandal since the Mail & Guardian revealed 'an improper relationship' existed between Lefika, contractor Basil Read and Mbombela council's 2010 coordinator, Differ Mogale, who allegedly paid 'Lefika R43-million in an irregular transaction' in connection with Nelspruit's World Cup stadium.

According to the weekly newspaper, Lefika's chief executive officer Chris Grib also fled South Africa after it emerged that the company had acquired a fraudulent tax clearance certificate that allowed them to bid for Mbombela Stadium tender.

There are none. This project hasn't even started yet. Chiefs signed a 2 year deal but play at Rand Stadium, but it isn't working out for them. They are fond of hosting games all over the place, and have started hosting matches at Polokwane's Peter Mokaba Stadium. They are also hosting a match at Soccer City next year, against Mamelodi Sundwons.

Shouldn't this thread be at the "Proposed Stadiums" section.
Just asking :dunno:.... because somebody opened this thread 3 years ago and it seems, that they didn't even pour a bucket of cement since then.
