SM coming to Dagupan, Robinson’s to Calasiao

DAGUPAN CITY – SM Prime Holdings Inc., the
country’s largest mall operator, is eyeing this city
for its second branch in Pangasinan, with company
President Hans Sy meeting with Mayor Benjamin
Lim Jr. on Monday for the project.
The first SM branch in the province is the SM
Rosales in Rosales town.
“I welcome them,” Lim said of SM’s plan.
SM has actually planned to establish a mal lin Dagupan
five years ago but it did not push through because the
Sanguniang Panglungsod (SP) then blocked the project.
“But you cannot stop them
from coming. We are guided by
free enterprise rule,” said Lim,
who owns the Magic Group of
Companies which operates chains
of supermarkets, department
stores and malls in the city, and
different towns and provinces.
He said his businesses will
surely be affected but “people
should understand that as amayor,
whatever is good for the city should
prevail over personal interests.”
But he said the a public hearing
should be conducted among
affected sectors like the local mall
owners and retailers.
SM’s decision to establish a
branch in this city could have been prompted by the establishment of
a Robinson’s mallin neighbor town
Calasiao, where groundworks are
already being undertaken.
“Maybe SM won’t take
Robinson’s coming in sitting
down. They would like to be a part
of the action. Let us listen to their
proposal,” he said.
But Lim said SM has to go
through “hurdles” such as the conversion
of the prospective site
from fishpond to commercial, submission
of development plan and
getting all government permits, to
be granted business permit.
SM should also contend with
“political realities” in the city, he
said, referring to denial of the SP
of its application five years ago.
It is the SP (some members are
the same) which will endorse the
project to the city mayor’s office
and which will issue the permit.
Sy told Lim that the city will
benefit from the establishment of
SM mall through real estate taxes,
job creation and taxes from locators
or business taxes.
Lim said his concern is “if SM
comes in, it should be for greater
benefit of the city.”
“Let usremember that conducting
business is a privilege, not a right
and the city government has the
privilege to grant it a permit or not.”

taga bolinao ka pala @915,mukhang asensonado na nga ang bolinao hindi lang sa tourismo pati sa mga small and medium establishments,sya nga pala anong pag kakaiba ng bolinawen dialect sa Pangalatok(sorry)pangasinan dialect pala

Ang salitang Bolinao hango sa salitang zambales kasi noong panahon ng amerikano ang western pangasinan sakop ng zambales.Karaniwang word doon. Babali ko kawananen ko.. Si manale kurita ken arak...rumuran ka..Kaso mas nakakaintindi ako ng Ilocano

Oo gumanda ang Bolinao kaso marami pa kulang. Kailangan ilawan ng husto from entrance to townproper. Medyo Luwagan ang kalsada sa mga municipal streets.Gawing Standard yung kalsada papunta sa mga pinupuntahan ng turista. At higit sa lahat medical facility.

Sa bolinao pala ginanap ang kauna unahang misa sa pilipinas ngaun ku lang nalaman,tnx max ulit akala ko sa cebu^^^^^^
Kaso disputed pa rin ito mukhang di kinikilala ng mga saradong utak ng mga national historical bout sa unang misa ng romano katoliko sa pilipinas. Mukhang di napapansin ng mga turista dyan na alam mag picturan lang. Anyway di ako lumaki sa Bolinao palagi kami nag babakasyon dyan.At na try ko ma stay ng 2 mos dyan...

sa tingin ko nga hindi lang 2 stories ito ,iba ang dagupan kung ang usapiun ay investments,saka. totoo ba na ang daytime population ng dagupan ay .5million?

Naga's daytime population is only 300K, so you're right. SM Dagupan could be a 4-story mall.

Last Wednesday, two significant events were taking place at the Dagupan City Hall.

The SM Group headed by Hanz Sy, son of the legendary Henry Sy, accompanied by our tycoon brother, Cesar, and yours truly called on Mayor Benjie Lim. Well, what's the meaning of this? If you're asking us, that's a business earthquake!

At around this time, representatives of Mr. John Gokongwei's Robinson have just put the final act on their mall and housing project in Calasiao, Pangasinan.

So after all, these big signs of progress are about to become real, right before our very eyes, in mall country, Dagupan. Let's doff our hats to Mayor Benjie Lim for adopting a positive view of these developments, even if these are his rival groups. We understand, Vice Mayor Belen Fernandez who, like Benjie, is in the same business is expected to welcome these developments, too.

Nauna na sila Benjie and Belen sa mall arena, so we don't think ipagkakait nila sa mga locals ang pagdating ng mga giants.. These things could only mean growth and success, and all of us should be happy about them.

After meeting with the SM group, Mayor Benjie also met with and inducted the charter officers of the city's fishpond owners and operators at the conference room of the city hall. The group was headed by Alfredo Dawana of Barangays Tapuac and Lucao.

In their speeches, Mayor Lim, President Dawana and Bonuan Gueset Captain Angel Gumarang (association adviser) underscored the vital role of fishpond owners in strengthening the fishing industry in the city. It may be instructive to remind everyone that fishing is undoubtedly the most vital industry in Dagupan. Sadly, it is not fully developed for many reasons.

Kitang kita ang total support ni Mayor sa fishing, hind lang, bangus, industry. Dapat lang! We love to call our city bangus center of the world. E, ano ba iton balita na, the city can not even supply the bangus needs of the city. Ano ba yan!

And so we pose this challenge to Apring Dawana's group, try to make a difference in the city's sagging bangus, nay, fishing industry! Good luck to all of you!

Balang araw aabot na dyan ang Northrail nung sunday pinuntahan namin yung caloocan area buo na yung riles pang MRT o hi speed train ang class nya. Nakikita ko na habang pinagmamasdan ko ang riles me pag asa na mabuhay ang PNR north.. Northrail..Imagine 3 oras lang ang dagupan....Sana... Sana

Ito ang city hall ng Dagupan??? Grabe panu nagkakasya ang Government Offices jan?? Sa laki ng siyuadad, panu nila natatanggap jan lahat ng traansactions ng city government??

Ilocos policeman wins 2010 COPS award

Camp President Quirino, Ilocos Sur (September 14) -- A non-commissioned police officer from Ilocos region was adjudged as one of the Country's Outstanding Policemen in Service (COPS) for 2010.
Ilocos region police director Chief Superintendent Orlando M. Mabutas proudly congratulated last Monday Senior Police Officer 2 (SPO2) Hermie Soriano Raymundo for bringing honor and distinction not only for himself but for the whole Region 1 police.

SPO2 Raymundo, assigned at the Provincial Investigation and Detective Management Division of the Pangasinan Police Provincial Office, joined nine other winners of this year's COPS award after a nationwide search undertaken by the Metrobank Foundation, Rotary Club of New Manila East and PS Bank in partnership with the Philippine National Police.
"Isang malaking karangalan ang pagkapanalo ni SPO2 Raymundo. His outstanding feat is really worthy of emulation," Mabutas said.
Meanwhile, report from the Metrobank Foundation showed that a total of 91 nominations were received for this year's search. The number was trimmed down to the ten winners through a rigorous screening process, document review and deliberation conducted by the selection committee composed of representatives from the PNP, government sector, non-government organizations and the Rotary Club.
The winners in the Police Commissioned Officer Category are Police Superintendents Leo M. Francisco, Florencio T. Ortilla, Noel R. Ponsaran Sidney N. Villaflor. Joining Raymundo as winners in the Police Non-Commissioned Officer Category are Police Officer 3's Edilberto B. Euraoba III, Shella Mae A. Sangrines, Zoraida M. Aripin, Joey V. Castillon and Roel P. Paclibar.
Each winner received a trophy and cash price of P250,000.
The search for COPS, now on its eighth year, is an annual project with the aim to recognize the shared responsibility between the police and the community. The award is given to gallant men and women of the police force who have demonstrated exemplary work with the community in preventing and solving crimes.

Pangasinense PNP Chief Versoza bids goodbye to police service

Dagupan City (14 September) -- Philippine National Police Chief Jesus Versoza bids police service goodbye today in fitting retirement honors. He hails from the western town of Dasol in Pangasinan.
PNP spokesperson Sr. Supt. Agrimero Cruz, Jr, said a turnover ceremony will take place today to be witnessed by President Benigno Aquino III. The formal retirement honors, however, will be on Wednesday morning at Camp Crame.
The Philippine Military Academy also accorded farewell rites to Versoza (Class 1976) last Friday.
Versoza will be replaced by Deputy Director General Raul Bacalzo.
Congressman Leopoldo Bataoil of the second district of Pangasinan, himself a bemedalled police officer and Versoza's classmate, said the outgoing chief is a tried, tested and proven leader. Kahit maliit... Dagupan City hall is one of the busiest in the country..hehe

Yah dami at pabonggahan pa. oo kumpara sa hometown ng mother me sa Ilocos Norte di ganyan karami. ngunit yung mga iba rito naglalakihan ngunit ala naman nakatira...Mukhang di praktikal mga nagpatayo.Balang araw madami haunted house sa Bolinao sa dami ng ibang malaking bahay na minsan walang tao. Hay display..Sa kalapit bayan na anda halos dikit dikit na ang 3 to 6 story bldg malapit sa munisipyo. Parang isang mini city..

^^Actually, nagsisimula ng bumangon ang Western Pangasinan para hindi na siya pag-iwanan sa probinsya. Sa pagsisimula sa Alaminos na after naging city ay marami ng pumasok ina investments at lalo pang lumalaki ang income nito year after year. Tourism boosts rin from Hundred Islands to Patar Beach in Bolinao. Actually marami pang idedevelop na tourist attraction dyan such as Umbrella Rocks sa Agno, beaches along western Coast such as Dasol, Burgos, Agno, Bani, at Infanta, Anda Island Eco-tourism at marami pang iba...

I hope na magtulungan ang mga mayors at magbuo ng parang isang grupo para rin sa ikakauunlad ng lugar. Makipagtulungan syempre sa 1st district congressman ng Pangasinan para maisakatuparan ito...:)

Yeah of course.. Pampanga is one of the big local economies in Luzon...... I think the economy of Pampanga is more of industry-driven than agricultural... It hosts several big industries in Mabalacat and in Angeles..

No.. that is acceptable since you grew in bulacan.. but you know.. im worst because i really dont know how to speak Pangasinan thinking that i am raised and living here.. it's a shame for me..

We are happy that North Rail will soon be resurrected... This is indeed another major progress for our provinces

Yes,,fully resurrected,,Northrail Phase 1 is on its full blast..Mostly Malolos Section were 75% Concrete Piers are erected,and 8 of them starting to have its Pierhead..

Magkaisa na sana tayo,,NORTHRAIL BULACAN,IS ALSO PANGASINAN'S ONE..Kapag naputol ang paggawa nito..(knock on wood) wala din ang phase 4..
