Boxer Manny Pacquiao may be the Philippines' best loved son and basketball the sport revered across the land, but the run to the semi-finals of the AFF Suzuki Cup by Simon McMenemy's team could be about to have a major impact on football in the archipelago.

The Philippines' history in the game may not be auspicious but it is amongst the oldest in Asia; the country featured in the first-ever international match played on the continent, when the Philippines lost 2-1 to China back in 1912 and was one of the 12 founding members of the Asian Football Confederation in 1954.

But while football throughout Asia has developed markedly since, the game has barely taken hold in a country more enthralled by the influence of the United States and the sport of basketball that now so dominates the nation's sporting landscape.

The events of the last two weeks, though, could see that start to change. As the Philippines prepare for their first-ever appearance in the semi-finals of the AFF Suzuki Cup, the nation of more than 90 million people is sitting up and taking notice.

President Benigno 'Noynoy' Aquino has already sent his message of congratulations to the team and social networking sites were buzzing throughout the group stages as the country and the tournament witnessed something special taking place.

Draws with Myanmar and Singapore coupled with an historic win over defending champions Vietnam have qualified the Filipinos for the last four, an astonishing achievement few would have predicted before the tournament commenced.

Much of the credit has gone to the England-born contingent within the team's ranks and boosted the squad's quality.

Players such as the Younghusband brothers Phil and James, former Wimbledon defender Rob Gier, midfielder Chris Greatwich and Fulham goalkeeper Neil Etheridge have played key roles in pushing the team towards previously unattained heights.

And for all the talk of reaching the semi-finals and their impending clash with Indonesia, everyone within the game in the Philippines is hoping the appearance in the knockout phase of the competition will lead to longer-term achievements.

"I think it's important that we ride this wave," says central defender Gier. "We'll do as much as we can to get momentum going in the Philippines."

For a country without a football infrastructure and no national league to talk of, the achievement has been remarkable. But now one eye is fixed on using the achievement to turn the state of the game in the Philippines around.

"There's so much potential there," says London-born James Younghusband, who has been living in Manila for the last year. "There are so many kids who love the sport and it's just a shame that there's no proper structure.

"There's no opportunity for them to develop their interest and skills in the sport like there would be in Europe or in other places. But hopefully that will start to change."

The Philippines' lack of footballing facilities means the country's first foray into the semi-finals of the AFF Suzuki Cup will see them play both legs at Indonesia's imposing Gelora Bung Karno Stadium in Jakarta.

Possessing their own version of the imposing 90,000-seater venue is a pipedream for football in Philippines, but coach McMenemy is hopeful that the success tasted so far in the tournament can lead to bigger and better things for the country.

"The president of the country sent us a goodwill message and he has said we are trying to make an attempt to enter the international arena of football," said the coach.

"If he's recognising that then hopefully he will recognise that we can't do that on our own and that he being president can help make those changes. Like building a stadium, for one.

"I'm told that once he said that, the channel he said that on received hundreds of emails saying: Build us a stadium, build us a stadium. We have to start thinking ahead in those terms.

"We are just hoping that this is the snowball being tipped off the top of the glacier and hopefully it rolls a long way."

PMS, LP leaders hit for botched P-Noy visit

LINGAYEN–Amateur and conspirators.

This was how provincial Board Member Ranjit Ramos Shahani described the Presidential Management Staff (PMS) and his own local partymates in the Liberal Party (LP) for their failure to invite Gov. Amado Espino Jr. to an official event in Bani last Tuesday where President Benigno Aquino III’s marked his first official visit to the province.

“It’s the height of amateurism, a serious breach of Presidential protocol,” Shahani said in a privilege speech delivered before the regular session of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan (SP) on Friday.

Shahani described the act of his party mates as a “conspiracy of the unwilling, too much political circus for self-aggrandizement.”

He pointed out that even if Espino is not their partymate in the LP, “the mere fact that he is the father of the province, he deserved to be accorded the right protocol and respect.”

In response to Shahani’s speech, the SP members passed a resolution authored by Senior Board Member Alfonso Bince Jr. expressing the body’, “sense of deep frustration and sadness for failing to witness the first official visit of the President in Pangasinan.”

Shahani, however, abstained in the voting.

Pangasinenses gave Aquino a big margin of votes in the May 2010 presidential elections but LP’s gubernatorial bet former Gov. Victor Agbayani lost.

Apart from Shahani and Mayor Marcelo Navarro of Bani, where the President inaugurated a housing project for typhoon victims, the few other politicians who welcomed the President were Agbayani, Alaminos City Mayor Hernani Braganza, both LP stalwarts and known detractors of the governor.

INSULTED

Meanwhile, Espino lamented the evident break in protocol, saying “We were the ones insulted, yet we are being blamed for the fiasco.”

Navarro claims that he did not invite Espino to the inauguration because Espino gave him the cold shoulder during a wedding several months ago when he attempted to extend a hand of reconciliation following the May elections.

Rep. Jesus Celeste of the first district, which includes Bani town was not also invited to the occasion. He is a known ally of Espino.

Bugallon Mayor Rodrigo Orduna, president of the League of Municipalities of the Philippines-Pangasinan chapter, said the mishandling of the event was “intentional, a political maneuver of scheming LP politicians to exclusively get the President’s attention.”

Orduna also slammed Navarro for referring to former governor Agbayani, who was present in the inauguration, as “my governor”. He pointed out that Espino defeated Agbayani by more than 530,000 votes in the last election, an “overwhelming landslide” in all the 44 towns and three cities of Pangasinan, including the town of Bani.

The President, for his part, said “I don’t have any problem with Gov. Espino” as he called on the local officials to unite and “walk the straight and narrow path in the delivery of basic services to the people.”–LM

BANI—“It was my decision alone.”

This was the admission of Mayor Marcelo Navarro Jr. on the exclusion of Governor Amado Espino Jr. during the inauguration of the P7-million Core Shelter Project of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) last December 7 in Sitio Olanen, Dacap Sur, Bani.

“The reason I did not invite him was to spare both of us a public spectacle once again, like recently when I offered my hand in friendship and reconciliation with him but he spurned it publicly,” he said.

Another reason Navarro cited is that he took offense in the purported earlier statement of the governor that in the Core Shelter Project, “Ang mga bahay singliit at mukhang kubeta”.

The mayor offered no apologies for not inviting the governor as he exculpated other parties for his decision.

DSWD Secretary Corazon Soliman accompanied the President to Bani to inaugurate the project, dubbed “Buruburti Ayat” (Spring of Love), which has 120 housing units for victims of typhoon ‘Emong’ which hit in May last year.

The project stands on a six-hectare lot provided by the municipal government while the DSWD gave P7 million to finance construction materials.

The United Nations World Food Program made available some P240,000 worth of rice which was used as a Food-for-Work component, benefiting 150 workers

The project is now being managed by a neighborhood association formed by the residents.

ON P-NOY’S FIRST OFFICIAL VISIT

LINGAYEN–The Sangguniang Panlalawigan has passed a resolution expressing its “deep sense of frustration and sadness” over its failure, together with other top local government officials, to witness the first official visit of President Benigno Aquino III to the province of Pangasinan on December 7.

The resolution, sponsored by Board Member Alfonso Bince Jr., was passed by a vote of seven and three abstentions by board members who are affiliated with the Liberal Party (LP) of the President.

In a privilege speech, Bince also conveyed what he called the “collective and united displeasure of the SP” over Bani Mayor Marcelo Navarro Jr. for not giving the other officials of Pangasinan, including the governor, the chance to welcome the President in his first sojourn in Pangasinan after the May elections.

Bince said he will convene the Committee on Public Accountability and Ethics of the SP, which he heads, to determine whether Navarro can possibly be cited for an administrative offense under the Local Government Code.

During the inauguration of a housing project in Bani, which was the main reason for the President’s visit to Pangasinan, Navarro categorically admitted in an interview that the governor was not invited in that gathering.

“The conspicuous absence of Gov. Amado T. Espino Jr., chief executive of the Province, and Congressman Jesus “Boyeng” Celeste of 1st District where Bani town is geographically located, has elicited multiple and unfavorable reactions among our province mates,” Bince said.

He said it is clear that it was Navarro who caused the exclusion of Espino, Celeste and other mayors from those who should welcome the president as Navarro himself, in a radio interview, admitted he did not invite the governor because “it is difficult to be someone who thinks he is God” (referring to Espino).

ARROGANT

“To my mind, such language is highly libelous, unbecoming of a public official and a gross disrespect to a duly elected governor,” said Bince, adding that in his almost 20 years as board member, “This is the first time that I heard a very arrogant and imperious Municipal Mayor uttering derogatory remarks against a superior and a Governor.”

Bince further said he finds “seditious” Navarro’s declaration when the latter acknowledged the defeated gubernatorial candidate as “my governor”.

With Navarro in that gathering were Mayor Hernani Braganza of adjacent Alaminos City, former Governor Victor Agbayani who lost to Espino in the last election, former Vice Governor Oscar Lambino, and Board Member Ranjit Sahani, all members of the LP.

By doing so, Bince pointed out, Navarro did not only insult the incumbent governor who won overwhelmingly in the last elections, including in Navarro’s home town Bani, and also demeaned the province and above all, himself.

Espino and Navarro, both “mistahs” of the Philippine Military Academy Class 1972, were roommates and company mates during their cadet days.

While Navarro supported Aquino in the last election, Espino stood with the candidate of his party, Lakas-Kampi.

Bince also highlighted the deepening animosity between Espino and some political leaders in Western Pangasinan which is detrimental to the province.–LM

Police warns against unlicensed firecracker production

WITH the New Year celebration just around the corner, the Provincial Police Office (PPO) has issued a directive to all police chiefs to check the legitimacy of operations of manufacturers of firecrackers.

Community Relations Officer Geraldo Roxas of the Pangasinan Police office said firecracker manufacturers must have both a business permit and a permit from the Philippine National Police to ensure safety in their operations.

“Kung wala silang maipakita (na permit) ay kukumpiskahin ang mga nasabing produkto,” Roxas said during the weekly KBP Forum last Thursday.

Roxas also said police firearms will also be sealed to avoid indiscriminate firing among police officers.

Calasiao loses solar panel project

CALASIAO–A plan to install solar panels on top of the new municipal hall here to generate energy has been shelved after the Japanese International Cooperation Agency (JICA) backed out of its earlier commitment reportedly to bankroll the project.

Municipal Administrator Vivencio Vallo said under the original plan, JICA was supposed to finance the installation of the solar panels with some counterpart from the municipal government, but the agency has now put forward a different grant arrangement.

Vallo said a representative of JICA recently visited them and asserted that the municipality should now secure a loan with the Development Bank of the Philippines (DBP) to fully finance the project.

For its part, JICA will just conduct a study for the solar panels to determine the cost needed for the project.

“We don’t need them”, Vallo stressed, referring to JICA. “If that is the plan we can negotiate ourselves with the bank. So what is the role of JICA in that project?” he added.

The Calasiao government, however, cannot afford an additional loan at this point after having secured credit for the construction of a new municipal hall to replace the old one that was razed down by a fire, Vallo pointed out.

The installation of solar panels is intended as a means for the town to save on energy costs.

Wanted: New Dagupan corporate seal

DAGUPAN City wants a new corporate seal and has launched a design contest with as much as P100,000 in prizes at stake.

Mayor Benjamin Lim approved the launching of the contest upon the recommendation of City Secretary Jorge Estrada who noted that the city’s corporate seal designed by the late Archbishop Mariano Madriaga in 1948 no longer depicts current realities and aspirations of Dagupenos.

Lim said the new seal should reflect the true historical, economic and cultural values of the city.

Estrada added that the design must embody “the indigenous character of the city as a coastal LGU with a thriving fishing and aquaculture industry, one that is well on the way to becoming a highly urbanized city with a developing industrial base”.

Every entry should also contain the city’s “shield” since Dagupan is an independent component city and does not use the provincial seal.

Contestants must be at least 15 years old and bonafide residents of the city as certified by a punong barangay.

The “Dagupan City Corporate Seal Redesigning Contest” is sponsored by the city government, the Pangasinan Filipino-Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry and More-than-Conquerors Breakfast Club.

Each contestant can submit a maximum of two entries, in hard copy on an 8 ½” x 11” 20 bond paper with a detailed explanation of the symbolisms, plus a back-up copy in CD or DVD.

Submission of entries is from January 1 – 31, 2011 to either ad hoc chairman Estrada at the Sangguniang Panlungsod office, Honorata Siapno at the Museo na Dagupan, or the office of City Administrator.

All entries will be judged by a panel on February 18, 2011 at the Museo na Dagupan.

The first prize winner will receive P50,000 and trophy; second prize, P30,000 and plaque; and third prize, P20,000 and plaque. (CIO Dagupan)

Dolphins spotted in Alaminos

WILL dolphins soon be regular ‘visitors’ around the Lingayen Gulf?

This question came to mind among environmentalists when some 20 dolphins were sighted anew in Alaminos City last week.

Dr. Westly Rosario, National Integrated Fisheries Technology Development Center (NIFTDC) chief, said based on descriptions made by members of Alaminos City's Bantay Dagat, there were at least three families of dolphins that were in the flock, among them the Spinner dolphin, the Bottle-Nosed dolphin and the bigger Risso Grampus Griseus dolphins.

Members of the Bantay Dagat who first spotted the sea mammals swimming in pods off Lucap Bay were assisted in identifying the dolphins with the aid of file photos shown by a team whose members were earlier trained to identify and distinguish cetaceans (sea mammals).

Rosario sent the team upon the request of Mayor Hernani Braganza.

He said the sighted dolphins have similarities with the traits of dead dolphins which the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic resources had collected in various shores of Pangasinan and whose remains are now buried in the world’s first fish cemetery inside NIFTDC.

Rosario theorized that the dolphins entombed in the NIFTDC fish cemetery belong to the same family.

The Risso dolphins, also commonly called grampus, explained Rosario, look like whales since they have no snouts, a facial feature of the Bottle-Nosed dolphins.

Rosario said the spinner and long-snout dolphins have similarities but have different peculiarities when already under water.

The Bantay Dagat members said they did not see any dwarf sperm whale in the pod, which is considered a dolphin and not a whale, and a kind of dolphin that could be indigenous to the Lingayen Gulf.

Braganza said upon seeing the dolphins, the Bantay Dagat team patrolled Lucap Bay to ensure that no harm comes to the sea 'visitors'. The mammals were eventually guided back to the deeper part of the sea.

Rosario said dolphins are by nature gregarious or very sociable mammals and swimming in a pod is an indication that they are in a healthy state.

He added dolphins and other sea mammals swim towards the shore of the Lingayen Gulf at this time of the year when they are feeling weak and need to recharge in flowing water before returning to the deeper portion of the sea or to forage for food.

The mouth of a river is considered as the most productive part of the marine environment because it is there where natural food of the fish, called plankton qand small organisms can be found.

Sea mammals usually feed on fish that feed on fry of other kinds of fish.

This period of the year is considered as the spawning season for shrimps or alamang, a natural food of other fish and mammals.

He said this pod of dolphins just move within the vicinity of the Lingayen and may return again near the shore for food. —LM

Deadline extended for hospitals’ PhilHealth accreditation

THE Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth) has extended the deadline of granting provisional accreditation to hospitals until the end of this year.

In Region I, there are currently 109 PhilHealth accredited hospitals and four more with pending applications.

PhilHealth previously issued new requirements for hospitals to be among the accredited medical facilities where members of the state-run insurance agency can avail of services.

“The extension is meant to make them comply with the requirements and at the same time ensure uninterrupted services to PhilHealth members availing of their benefits to these facilities,” said PhilHealth President and CEO Dr. Rey Aquino.

PhilHealth’s new accreditation program, implemented beginning January this year, is laid out in its Benchbook, a quality-driven set of standards which include patient’s rights, patient’s care, safe practice and environment, leadership and management, human resource management, information management and improving performance.

IRRI promotes new rice storage technology

PANGASINAN farmers can look forward to higher revenues with the introduction of another new technology.

The International Rice Research Institute (IRRI) and GrainPro, Inc. signed a cooperation agreement on December 9 to promote the adoption and dissemination of rice storage technologies in the Philippines.

The agreement is part of an ongoing collaboration between IRRI and GrainPro to develop storage and other technologies that reduce physical and quality losses in the postharvest chain.

“This joint agreement allows us to better provide farmers, farmers’ groups, processors, and seed producers with cost-effective technologies that help reduce postharvest losses and maintain the quality of rice and seeds,” said Martin Gummert, IRRI senior scientist and head of its Postharvest Unit.

Studies show between 15 and 25% of rice harvest is lost due to inefficient and outdated postharvest operations.

Gummert, whose IRRI unit had piloted improved storage of rice grains and seeds across Southeast Asia, also said he hopes the nonexclusive agreement with GrainPro in the Philippines will hopefully lead to other agreements and partnerships in the region.

GrainPro, Inc. is a private company engaged in the development, manufacture, and commercial distribution of airtight storage systems for rice and other crops.

IRRI and GrainPro have informally cooperated on the development and verification of small-scale airtight storage systems for Asian rice farmers, seed producers, and the commercial sector since 2002.

One result of this cooperation is the “Superbag,” a low-cost technology that allows safe storage of grains and seeds over long periods and provides insect control without pesticides.

Nursing licensure exams set Dec. 19-20

SOME 3,591 local nursing graduates are scheduled to take the Nurses Licensure Examination on December 19 and 20 in four universities in Dagupan City.

The designated test centers in the province are: Lyceum Northwestern University, University of Pangasinan, University of Luzon, and Colegio de Dagupan.

Room assignments are now posted at the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) Baguio Regional Office (BRO)’s website, www.prcbaguio.blogspot.com.

Examinees whose names might have been misspelled are advised to call Marlon Aquino at telephone no. (074) 304-3180 to correct the data.

The updated list of non-programmable calculators allowed to be used in the exams is also posted in the website.

The PRC registered12,524 examinees in the areas covered by the BRO, of which 3,591 will take the tests in Dagupan.

IT was not your usual club tennis tourney.

As singles and doubles matches among club members were played the whole day, the Lyceum Northwestern University (LNU) Tennis Club Doubles “Benefit” Tournament held December 4 at the newly-refurbished LNU court, hailed the appearance of Justice Undersecretary Francisco “Toti” Baraan, came as special participating guest.

The following are the results of the matches: Dexter Mejia-Sandril Coronel outstmarted Aries Layno-Hitoshi Atano in a tiebreak,7-3; Edilyn Balanga-Remigio Coronel plastered Jun Coquia-Michael Pioquinto, also in a tiebreak 7-5; Ferrer-Boy Malonzo outclassed Joe de Guzman-Eric Ignacio, 8-3; Raul Bautista-Carlito Umali won over Mundray Mendoza-Lexie Villanueva 8-3; Eric Ignacio-Ray Villamarin edged Joe de Guzman-Zaldy Oraccion 11-9 in a tiebreak; and, Layno-Mendoza subdued Cris Cuison-Hitoshi Atano 8-5. Usec Baraan and partner Romy Villanueva lost, 5–8, to Peter Lim and Ed Cervantes.

In the championship round, partners Ferrer-Malonzo overpowered the tandem of Balanga-R. Coronel, 9-7, in a tiebreak, to gain a showdown against Lim-Cervantes for the title which the latter won, in a “seesaw” scoring battle, 8-7.

As a special feature of the tournament, a singles championship pitted Edilyn Balanga and Carlo Umali after vanquishing their respective rivals in four earlier matches. Umali prevailed over Balanga after a grueling climb from a 4-1 deficit to tie the score at 4-4 and thereafter rolled to a smooth hard-earned triumph, 8-6.

4th Garcia Cup on Dec. 19

YOUNG stars in Philippine cycling, aged 19 year and below, led by national champion Rustom Lim of Olongapo City, will join the 4th Jesus A. Garcia, Jr. Cup set on December 19 in Mangaldan.

The annual bikefest will be a criterium race this year, starting and ending at the Buenlag Elementary School, covering a 55-kilometer distance.

Garcia, the 1973 and 1977 Tour of Luzon champion after whom the race is named, will flag off the participants together with barangay Buenlag chair Melchor de Guzman.

The competition, held in conjunction with the celebration of Garcia’s birthday, will be sponsored by Garcia with support from his friends.

“The race has been held for three straight years with the support of now 2nd District Rep. Leopoldo N. Bataoil and I don’t want to stop it as long as my sports friends are backing the project,” said Garcia.

“This is my little contribution to develop our young cyclists and I firmly believe that in due time maybe some of them will become a national champion too, like me,” he added.—(Philamer Celi)

National chessfest set in Dagupan

THE 2010 National Inter-Cities and Municipalities Rapid Chess Team championship will be held December 18 and 19 at the Dagupan City People’s Astrodome.

The nation’s chess celebrities representing their cities and municipalities are expected to participate in the two-day tourney, a joint project of the National Chess Federation of the Philippines (NCFP) and the Dagupan City government.

NCFP president Prospero “Butch” Pichay is expected to attend and make the ceremonial moves together with Dagupan Mayor Benjie Lim.

NCFP secretary general and Tagaytay City Mayor Abraham “Bambol” Tolentino and Dagupan City administrator Vladimir Mata are expected to grace the event too.

The champion team will pocket a P70,000 prize, runner-up P50,000, and third placer P30,000. Individual winners from boards one to five will receive P2,000 each.

hello sir@adre paulo,dito sa amin every week end lang ata,karamihan sa nakikita mong buildings ay gusali ng Colegio De Dagupan at ang Region 1Medical Center,pero sa totoo lang din malinis talaga ang mga gusali along arellano st. at sa may Mc arthur highway,pag bandang downtown karamihan sa mgA GUSALI luma na ,ung iba renovate lang,pero maganda pa rin heehhe,tama po ba me sir @amigable,ako na nag comment para kay sir @paulo:lol::lol::lol:

^^ agree..3 hours is not enough..dagupan's downtown is more bigger than the combined downtowns of baguio, san fernando and urdaneta..in my own,, 50% of dagupan's total land area(except fish farms) is city's downtown, and the remaining 50 percent -- Bonuan district, Lucao District (including southern part of malued and tapuac, carael, calmay)and Brgys Mangin,Tambac & Tebeng.

ROSALES – The municipal government here is on full swing preparation for the upcoming IBTOR Challenge, an endurance triathlon race, slated on December 29.


IBTOR is an acronym for Inter-Barangay Triathlon of Rosales. It is also an Ilocano word that means a person’s endurance and strength.



Mayor Ricardo Revita introduced the event in December 2008 to showcase the eco-tourism project of the local government.


The sports involves three discipline -- swimming, biking/cycling and running -- involving two participants.


For the first leg, a member has to cross a banana along the 250-meter Acop Dam.


With a rope tied at a hand each, the team will then run five kilometers of rough mountain terrain down to the highway where the third leg will start.


Waiting at the third leg checkpoint is a pedicab where a member will pedal for 15 kilometers while the other sits at the cab.


From Poblacion, the participants will again run a distance of 10 kilometers down to the finish line at the SM City Rosales.


In 2008, 19 pairs participated in the tournament while 48 joined in the 2009 race.


Municipal Tourism Officer Aila Rose Seradoy said interested participants may contact telephone numbers 582-2103 or 582-4115.


The IBTOR Challenge has earned recognition from the Department of Tourism and the Association of Tourism Officers of the Philippines. (LCMY/Sunnex)

oo nga kasi kung titignan sa google ang city ng Dagupan ung downtown establishment lahat un ,parang walang halong bahay o subdivision,kundi mismong CBD,kaya agree ako na 50 % ng land area ng Dagupan CBD the rest un na mga bahay at palaisdaan na.kung totoosin ang san fernando city mukhang kagaya lang ng urdaneta ang area ng CBD nya,sa baguio city naman tama ka kabayan ang liit ng CBD ng baguio city ung nga lang matataas ang mga uilding doon unlike dito sa dagupan city.,ang nagpalawak lang sa baguio ay ung burham park.

By Venus H. SarmientoDecember 16, 2010, 8:51amDAGUPAN CITY, Philippines Dec. 15 (PIA) – The Technical Education and Skills Development Authority encourages Pangasinenses to enroll in the Training for Work Scholarship Program (TWSP) offered for free.

Provincial Director Francisco Jucar said they are now in the process of recruiting scholars for the various courses offered under the TWSP.

“Professionals and non-professionals 18 years old above and physically fit can enroll in the training for work program as long as they have time to complete the course which may run from 55 days to six weeks,” Jucar said during the Pantongtongan Tayo radio program of the Philippine information Agency aired live over Radyo ng Bayan.

Courses offered in TESDA-accredited schools include commercial cooking, food service, front desk office, health care services, wielding, heavy equipment operation, and computer courses.

Jucar added that under this training program, TESDA and its accredited schools will help graduates of occupational titles find jobs.

“Anuman ang skills na natutunan, gawing building block, gawing puhunan upang makatulong sa pagpapaunlad ng kabuhayan at ng bayan natin,” Jucar said.

There are over 100 TESDA accredited schools in Pangasinan and almost 200 registered programs. (PIA-Pangasinan)

The official seal of the City of Dagupan, as approved by the national heraldry committee, consists of the two major means of transportation linking to Dagupan to other points in Luzon, the railroad line and the national highways, traversing each other. At the intersection is a magnet, signifying the traditional attraction of Dagupan to all segments within the country and abroad.

Stressing this fact are the three feet with wings, located on the left, right and bottom sides of the magnet. Just below the seal are the words “Sigue Dagupan”. This slogan was first used by Don Crisostomo Villamil, project engineer of the Manila to Dagupan railroad line and a native son of Dagupan who defied orders to report back to Manila until he completed the extension of the railroad line to the Dagupan terminal in 1891. The seal was designed by the Bishop Mariano Madriaga upon the request of the then City Mayor Angel B. Fernandez.

Dagupan City has 28 barrios, including three which are on separate islands. In alphabetical order, these are: Bacayao Norte, Bacayao Sur, Bolosan, Bonuan Binloc, Bonuan Boquig, Bonuan Gueset, Calmay, Carael, Caranglaan, Herrero-Perez East, Lasip Chico, Lasip Grande, Lomboy, Lucao. Malued, Mamalingling, Maguin, Mayombo, Pantal, Poblacion Oeste, Pogo Chico, Pogo Grande, Pugaro-Suit, Salapingao, Salisay, Tambac, Tapuac and Tebeng.

Actually, Willie Revillame announced yesterday that TV5 has its new channel to air not only in Pangasinan but also in Tarlac, La Union and Baguio City. It will be at channel 28!! :)
