(CIO)

http://i905.photobucket.com/albums/ac251/okalim/dagupan%20city/a14-1.jpgAJ's Cafe N' Steakhouse's Fillet Mignon. I like it medium rare. How about you?
Filet mignon (French for "cute fillet" or "dainty fillet") is a steak cut of beef taken from the smaller end of the tenderloin, or psoas major of the beef carcass, usually a steer or heifer. The tenderloin is the most tender cut of beef, an...d is also the most expensive.

Filet mignon is often served rarer than other meats. Those preferring a more well-done steak can request a "butterflied" filet, meaning that meat is cut down the middle, and opened up to expose more of the meat to heat during the cooking process.http://http://www.facebook.com/#!/whatsupdagupan

gold mine ng SM ang central pangasinan, sa dami naman ng population. SM needs us but we also need them. kasi kahit may csi malls, nepo and robinsons na eh hindi pa kayang i-accommodate ang tao sa atin. look at Robinsons, i somehow think that they quite underestimated the malling culture in this part of the province. marami pa rin ang excited with a new mall even though we already have large existing malls.

Alaminos ready for Gali-la Hundred Islands Festival

ALAMINOS CITY, March 13 (PNA)--This trade and commercial center in western Pangasinan will mark the 4-day Gali-La Hundred Islands Festival which ends on March 19.

This coincides with the Alaminos City Fiesta in honor of the city's patron, Saint Joseph.

Alaminos City has jurisdiction over the Hundred Islands National Park, now administered by the Alaminos City government.

Mayor Hernani A. Braganza formally extended the city’s invitation to President Benigno Simeon C. Aquino III to join the people of Alaminos in celebrating the festival.

Other dignitaries invited were Rep. Catalina Leonen-Pizarro of Arts Business and Science Party-list and Bayan Muna Party List Rep. Teddy Casiño, who will be the guest speakers during the Agri-Trade Fair 2012 Farmers and Fisherfolks Grand Gala.

Also invited is Dr. Merriam Pascua, president of the Mariano Marcos State University.

According to City Information Officer Anacleto Orfinada, this year’s celebration will be simple and compact yet meaningful and a bit prudent as various activities were clustered.

“Guided by the theme:'Viva! San Jose, Gali-La Alaminians,' the celebration seeks to showcase once more how Alaminians, as a people, thank the Almighty God for all the blessings that they have received," added Orfinada.

The activities include the Search for Miss Gali-La Hundred Islands 2012 at the Don Leopoldo Sison Auditorium (DLSA) and the Peoples’ Party to be held at the Pedro Braganza By-Pass Road for four straight nights and basketball exhibition games at Plaza Marcelo Ochave on the 16th of the month.

Alaminos City Administrator Wilmer Panabang said Agri-Trade Fair 2012 formally opens on March 17 at Suki Market grounds under the theme, “Magsasaka at Mangingisda Magkaisa! Labanan ang Kahirapan Gali-La Mag-Agri Negosyo Na!.

Also on the 17th is the kick-off of the two-day 2nd "Gali''la Putukan Na!" Practical Shooting Competition at the Hundred Islands Practical Shooters Association Firing Range in Barangay Sabangan; the Rock Rakan XI mountain bike challenge; the women's volleyball games at and the "Alaminos Longanisa the Best" eating contest at Suki Market parking lot.

On the other hand, the Children's Hour is back to bring joy and excitement to the city’s kids who will take part in the Clay Art Work, Chalk Drawing, Kiddie Fun Games and Magical Show at the PMO at exactly 3 p.m.

In the evening, it will be the formal opening of "Larawan ng Isang Daang Pulo" Photo Exhibit and the I-guhit Art Workshop & Exhibition with the Grand Ball and Coronation Night at DLSA.

On March 18, the city’s agricultural heroes will put on display their best agricultural produce during the Agri-Grand Float Parade at the city’s central business district.

On the other hand, the city’s best product-- the Alaminos Longganisa, a meat sausage with a toothpick in the end) will be showcased during the Alaminos Longganisa Ihaw-ihaw Festival 2012 at Suki Market grounds.

That day will also be the final day of the 2nd "Gali''la Putukan Na!" and Women''s Volleyball Games while in the evening, I-guhit Art: Henna Tatoo Art Contest and Transport and Vendors Night will take place at PBB.

The highlights of the four-day festivities include the groundbreaking of the P31M Hundred Islands e-Kawayan Factory at Barangay Tangcarang on March 18, a thanks-giving mass which will be held at the Saint Joseph Cathedral Parish as a way of being thankful for the bountiful blessing for the city and the Viva! Pangasinan seeks to prevent any more drowning incidents in its beaches

DAGUPAN CITY, March 15 (PNA) - The Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (PDRRMC) has appealed to beachcombers trooping to the various beaches of Pangasinan this summer to exercise caution and discipline to prevent any more drowning incident.

The appeal was made by Avenix Arenas, PDRRMC spokesperson, in the face of reports from the Philippine Navy tagging Pangasinan as having recorded the most number of drowning incidents among all other coastal provinces in the country in recent years.

Confirming this, Arenas cited PDRRMC's own record from 2008 to 2011 showing that there were 29 drowning incidents and 32 near-drowning incidents that happened in the beaches of Pangasinan.

These are in addition to the 50 other drowning incidents that were recorded in various rivers in the province from 2008 to 2011.

To prevent any more drowning incidents in the beaches, Arenas said the PDRRMC was ordered by Gov. Amado Espino Jr. to prepare an action plan to ensure the safety of all beachcombers coming to Pangasinan this summer, especially during the Holy Week.

One of the plans is to set up four more watch towers in the Lingayen Beach where big number of tourists are trooping every summer.

She said these are in addition to the two watch towers already in place, situated 100 meters apart from each other, in the Lingayen Beach.

Each of these watch towers will be manned by a Water Search and Rescue (WASAR) team whose members were trained to save drowning persons.

Each WASAR team is equipped with one rubber boat, a spine board where drowning victim retrieved from the water will be carried before he or she is transferred to an ambulance and first aid kits.

Arenas said the provincial government is restoring net buoyants along the Lingayen Beach to mark the area that is dangerous for swimmers.

At the same time, the PDRRMC is installing signages in several areas of the beach written in English, Tagalog, Pangasinan and Ilocano, warning people to observe proper safety measures whenever they swim in the beach.

She noted that most of the drowning victims listed by PDRRMC were visitors. (PNA)

No transport strike in Dagupan, Pangasinan

DAGUPAN CITY, March 15 (PNA) -- Jeepney drivers and operators in Dagupan and Pangasinan did not join the "Welgang Bayan" staged by members of transport groups in Metro Manila Thursday in protest against the continuing rise in the price of fuel.

Benny Aquino, presidenrt of the Alliance of United Transport Organizations Provincewide (AutoPro), said although his group sympathizes with the strikers, they decided to distance away as they could not anyway enlist the support of other transport organizations in the city and province.

Aquino said it is useless to join the "Welgang Bayan" if other public transportation will be plying the streets and take advantage of the absence of their comrades.

For the "Welgang Bayan" to succeed in Dagupan and Pangasinan, all affected members of the transport sector must close rank and push a common agenda that could bring good to all, he said. (PNA)

Trading tops business registration, more investments pour in Pangasinan
By Venus H. Sarmiento

Friday 16th of March 2012 TweetFacebookYahooEmailShareThisDAGUPAN CITY, March 16 (PIA) -- Trading tops the most number of business registrations in the province in 2011 and early this year.

Provincial Director Peter Mangabat of the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) said at least 70 percent of those who registered their businesses are into trading like buy and sell and sari-sari stores.

Manufacturing business registration, however, dropped which Mangabat claimed has some disadvantages.

“Ang magandang set-up sana ay balanced ang trading at manufacturing (The good set-up supposedly is a balance in the trading and manufacturing business),” he said during the Kapisanan ng mga Brodkaster ng Pilipinas Forum held at the Philippine Information Agency on Thursday.

DTI only accepts business registrations for sole proprietorship and micro-businesses with up to P3 million capitalization. Big companies go directly to the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), he explained.

Mangabat expressed elation about the entry of big businesses and investments in the province during the Luzon Investment Conference recently.

Aside from the Robinsons Mall in Calasiao town which had its soft opening today, investors are planning to put up a 40-seater call center in Lingayen town soon, he said.

"Korean companies expressed interest to invest on a cold storage facility which will be built in Bayambang town,” he added.

Bayambang is an onion-producing town but during harvest time, a big volume of onions get rotten due to the absence of a preservation facility. The cold storage will serve this purpose plus the ability of producers to control the price of onions, Mangabat said. (ANL/VHS-PIA 1 Pangasinan)

A new face of Pangasinan ecotourism

The San Roque Dam that was blamed for the widespread flooding in eastern and central Pangasinan as Typhoon “Pepeng” struck in 2009 is gearing to become the new face of ecotourism in the province.
The dam in San Manuel town, touted as Asia’s second largest water containment facility, will soon have a reservoir cruise.
And this adventure promises a new experience for tourists, especially nature lovers, says Tom Valdez, vice president for corporate social responsibility of San Roque Power Corp. (SRPC).
“It will be more than just a sightseeing tour,” says Valdez shortly after former President Fidel Ramos and Japanese Ambassador to the Philippines Toshinao Urabe launched on Monday the first reservoir boat, a thatch-roofed, wood-decked, nipa hut-inspired craft pushed by a small motorized tugboat.
40 bird species
The reservoir, which boasts a surface area of 12.8 square kilometers, offers not only the scenic views of the Cordillera and Caraballo mountains and the beauty of its serene water, but the joy of bird watching as well.
Valdez says the Wild Bird Club of the Philippines (WBCP) found during a visit in 2008 that more than 2,000 Philippine ducks (Anas luzonica) now live in the reservoir area.
In a trip report posted in the WBCP website, the eight-member group composed of birders recorded seeing more than 40 bird species, nine of them endemic, during a three-day tour.
The endemic species, aside from the Philippine duck, included the pygmy swiftlet (Collocalia troglodytes), blue-headed fantail (Rhipidura cyaniceps), red-keeled flowerpecker (Dicaeum australe), Philippine bulbul (Hypsipetes philippinus), Philippine coucal (Centropus viridis), Philippine cuckoo-dove (Macropygia tenuirostris), white-eared brown dove (Phapitreron leucotis) and spotted buttonquail (Turnix ocellata).
During Monday’s launch, a temporary dock was built behind the dam’s spillways. Valdez says each cruise can last the whole morning or the whole day that can take visitors to the other side of the reservoir in Benguet.
Ramos, a native of Asingan town, says he and his children once took a speedboat ride on the reservoir and reached Itogon, Benguet, 17 kilometers from the dock.
“We really hope that we could open this to the public very soon,” Valdez says.
Ecology talk
He says SRPC is finalizing the plan and the objective is for the community to handle that as part of their livelihood. The “community” he was referring to are the residents displaced by the dam that have been relocated in various resettlement sites in San Manuel.
Valdez says a guide will be trained to talk during the cruise about the ecology of the reservoir and watershed and their importance in irrigation and in providing power for the country.
“The guide can also talk about the engineering of the San Roque Dam, the relevance of the watershed and its impact on climate change and even on the history of the dam,” he says.
Gov. Amado Espino Jr. says he is happy that the project, which was conceptualized in the late 1990s while the power plant component of the dam was being built, is finally beginning to be realized.
Espino was Pangasinan police director at the time of the dam’s construction and was involved in its “social engineering.” “This is a big boost to the overall effort toward the realization of our vision of Pangasinan as the best place to invest, work and live and raise a family,” he says.
He says it should not be difficult for the San Roque Dam to attract tourists because it already has accommodation facilities. SRPC has a housing village, including a clubhouse with a swimming pool and restaurant, that is available to its visiting executives and visitors.
Valdez says the immediate thing to do is to work out a plan with the National Power Corp. (Napocor), which is in-charge of the watershed and the reservoir.
He says the cruise will complement Napocor’s program to promote ecotourism and at the same time encourage people to protect the watershed.

Pangasinan drafts five-year dev’t plan for SMEs

DAGUPAN CITY, PANGASINAN—A five-year plan aims to generate more investments, employment and export earnings for the small and medium enterprise (SME) sector in the province, according to an industry group.

About 99.9 percent of all businesses in the province are SMEs generating about 54.62 percent of investment and 99.37 percent of employment here, according to data from the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) .

The Pangasinan Enterprises Development and Productivity Foundation Inc. (PEDPFI) and DTI drafted a five-year Small and Medium Enterprises Development (SMED) plan that aims to identify high-growth industries with export potentials.

The next goal is to create market for the products by encouraging industry sectors to join trade fairs organized by DTI locally. Promotion of mutually beneficial linkage between small and large firms is also needed to strengthen the “small and big brother” concept of mentoring SMEs.

“The end goal of the SMED plan is to help the government reduce poverty and to generate jobs for the people by 2016,” said Natalia Dalaten, officer in charge of the business development division at DTI.

Tapping SMEs for technical collaboration including technical consultancy in extension services will also strengthen technology and research projects in the province, said Dalaten.

To make SME ventures more competitive, Pangasinan locals will be given access to loan financing via tie-ups with the Development Bank of the Philippines (DBP) and Land Bank of the Philippines (LBP).

The five-year plan will also synchronize SMED programs in the province by improving support facilities such as the Dagupan business center, San Fabian One Town One Product (OTOP) pasalubong center, and bangus deboning area.

The plan also look into the rehabilitation of resource-based industries that use bamboo, rattan, and cornhusk for furniture and handicrafts.

PEDPFI has high hopes that the set plan will be approved immediately to help create jobs in the province.

Anti-flood infrastructure projects in Pangasinan underway

By Alex Romeo R. Fernandez
Friday 16th of March 2012
DAGUPAN CITY, March 16 (PIA) -- Engineer Rodolfo Dion of the second Pangasinan Engineering District said that the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) is currently constructing 1.2-meter-wide drainages along major roads in Barangays Bonuan Gueset, Bonuan Boquig, Bonuan Binloc, Pantal, Tapuac, and Mayombo in Dagupan City.

Roads along Tapuac and Mayombo, which are most prone to flooding among the roads leading to the central business district, are being elevated by 40 centimeters, he said during the KBP Forum at the Philippine Information Agency on Thursday.

The city government, meanwhile, is recovering and rehabilitating sidewalks that have been encroached by private businesses along M.H. Del Pilar St.

Dion said the projects, most of which have already been proposed as early as 2009, have been appropriated a total P134.5 million from the general appropriations fund.

Meanwhile, Calasiao town has already started the renovation of its town plaza, along with the rehabilitation of the Villamil Bridge.

Dion said the DPWH is hastening to finish the projects in this city before the rainy season. (ANL/ARRF-PIA 1 Pangasinan)

I foresee csi become the likes of mcadore & vicar hotel at lalo mabubulok ang downtown ng daguoan

hindi naman siguro. dagupan will always be the business hub of the province.

but with the advent of robinsons, local officials of dagupan are now compelled to improve the city's infrastrucures like their malls, di ba belen? kung hindi pa dumating ang robinsons hindi pa magrerenovate ang csi. naging wake up call yun sa kanila. this just shows that business competition is good. establishments and services improve, and pangasinenses have more options now. people of pangasinan deserve better malls and we have been yearning about it for years because we're sick of crappy 3rd-rate provincial malls that are csi and magic. at least now ini-improve na nila tong mga worn-down malls na to.

Pangasinan ready to host 2012 Palaro

By Eva Visperas (The Philippine Star) Updated March 17, 2012

LINGAYEN, Philippines – Gov. Amado Espino Jr. has assured the Department of Education (DepEd) officials, led by Sec. Armin Luistro, of a successful staging of this year’s Palarong Pambansa slated May 6-12 at Narciso Ramos Sports and Civic Center here.

Espino made the announcement prior to the signing of the memorandum of agreement (MOA) between the province and DepEd last March 14 at the DepEd main office in Pasig City.

Espino said that since this is the second time Pangasinan will host the country’s biggest sporting event, the first being in 1995, the province has doubled its effort in preparing the sports facilities and the various billeting sites.

The governor said the Narciso Ramos Sports and Civic Center, the main venue, is now undergoing massive upgrading from the dormitories to the bleachers to accommodate thousands of athletes, officials, guests and spectators who will watch the national games.

Luistro, for his part, has commended the preparations being done by the host province as he expressed optimism that Palaro 2012 will outdo the past events. He said an environmental-friendly event will be introduced to promote not only fairness in games but also cleanliness in the environment.

“This national games must serve as a formative experience for the athletes promoting positive Filipino values and for this reason our department has started the campaign last year in Dipolog,” he said.

The education secretary also said that the Palaro should not be made a once-a-year event but a continuing activity to develop the athletic prowess and sportsmanship of the youth.

Also, games venues should be constructed to last for years so that athletes can have regular training sites to be used for a continuous sports program.

As this developed, Espino announced that the Pangasinan sports academy will be launched after the conduct of Palaro 2012 as a manifestation of support to the national government’s continuous program for youth development.

“We have started this already with our regular sports activities like chess clinics and we are bound to expand the program to sustain our sports development thrust,” he said.

Provincial Administrator Rafael Baraan said that for the first time all the events of the Palarong Pambansa can be watched live as they happen at the official website of the national games.

Joining the governor in the MOA signing were Vice Governor Jose Ferdinand Calimlim Jr and Baraan while Luistro was with Undersecretary Rizalino Rivera and Tonisito Umali, Secretary General of Palarong Pambansa 2012.

Library system in Pangasinan embraces modern technology

By April Montes
Friday 16th of March 2012 TweetFacebookYahooEmailShareThis
LINGAYEN, Pangasinan, March 16 (PIA) -- The Pangasinan Provincial Library in this capital town implemented the KOHA-Integrated Library System Online Public Access Catalogue to fully automate its library services in the coming months.

KOHA is a Maori term which means “gift” or “donation” and is believed to be the first open source integrated library system (ILS) in the world.

The ILS, which can be operational even without internet connection, was derived from KOHA. It was developed by Katipo Communications for the Horrowhenua Library in New Zealand and was funded by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).

The automation project aims to further implement a more versatile library system. Through KOHA, books will be made easier to locate and research studies will be made simpler, as well.

“We have to embrace modern technology,” said Rafael Baraan, the provincial administrator, during the launching ceremony held last March 9. “This project is another milestone undertaken by the province that will make life easier, putting Pangasinan in pace and in cadence with the entire world. Going global using cyberspace as the medium of communication is highly commendable.”

Edgardo Quiros, National Library of the Philippines (NLP) Information Technology Division Chief, hailed the provincial government for fully embracing modern technology that will serve as a pivotal bridge towards further developing and improving library services in the country.

Quiros mentioned that as of December 2011, the Philippines has the most number of KOHA system being adapted in local libraries with Pangasinan Provincial Library as one of the leading provincial libraries in terms of modernization followed by the Cavite Library.

With the advent of modern technology in the library system, youth will benefit in utilizing its services for their research and study. In just a click of a finger, information is made accessible to them. It is also useful to those who wisely spend their parents’ hard-earned money. Instead of going in computer shops, they could just visit the library for their educational needs. (ANL/AMM-PIA 1 Pangasinan with reports from PIO)

BP- Pangasinan gives free legal aid to abused women
By Venus H. Sarmiento
Saturday 17th of March 2012 TweetFacebookYahooEmailShareThis
DAGUPAN CITY, Mar. 17 (PIA) -- Women who fall victims of domestic violence can seek legal aid for free from the Integrated Bar of the Philippines (IBP) - Pangasinan chapter.

Atty. Farah Marie Decano, chapter president, said most of the women seeking help from the IBP complain about violence and lack of support from their husbands.

Decano said IBP lawyers give options to the victims and tell them the consequences of whatever action they wish to take.

“The counselling is basically empowering the women by making them decide on what they want to do,” Decano explained during the Pantongtongan Tayo radio program of the Philippine Information Agency aired over DZMQ on Tuesday.

Part of the IBP drive, she said, is holding seminars for local enforcement agencies which play pivotal roles in reducing crime incidences especially on women.

The Philippine Commission on Women has also been very active in advocating for women’s rights, she said. It is bent on assigning a focal person in every government agency to oversee if the five percent budget for Gender and Development is used wisely, she added.

Decano advised women to know their rights in order to protect and help themselves. (JCR/VHS-PIA 1 Pangasinan)

Philippine mayors shop for US sister cities

by Rodney Jaleco, ABS-CBN North America News Bureau
Posted at 03/19/2012 12:33 PM | Updated as of 03/19/2012 12:33 PM

WASHINGTON D.C. City mayors in the Philippines want to partner with their counterparts in the United States to boost people-to-people ties that could speed up exchanges and investments.

Alaminos, Pangasinan Mayor Hernani Braganza, Secretary General of the League of Cities of the Philippines (LCP) met last week with officials of the DC-based United States Conference of Mayors, including Mayor Vincent Gray.

“We will hold initial discussions with them for a possible formal relationship with the Conference of Mayors,” he explained.

He had come from Hawaii where city executives led by LCP president and San Fernando, Pampanga Mayor Oscar Rodriguez participated in a workshop that tackled disaster preparedness, tourism and juvenile justice, among others.

Dozens of Philippine cities, mostly the bigger population centers, already have sister city relationships with US cities. Braganza suggested it was time for the LCP to forge an arrangement at the level of the Conference of Mayors.

Many of the US cities that have ties to Philippine cities have significant Filipino American populations. The vast majority of them are in the West Coast, Braganza observed.

The LCP is an umbrella of 122 cities, representing over 40 million Filipinos. The Conference is composed of more than 1,200 US cities with a population of 30,000 or more.

The sister city relationship became especially relevant when flashfloods killed over 1,400 people in northern Mindanao last December. Among the hardest hit was Cagayan de Oro City and its sister city of Norfolk, Virginia was among the first to mobilize support for victims.

Makati Mayor Jejomar “Junjun” Binay Jr. explained during a visit here last year that they have received valuable help from their sister city of Los Angeles, especially in police and emergency services training.

That relationship could have added importance because Los Angeles, California Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa is the current president of the Conference of Mayors.

Braganza, whose city has a sister city arrangement with West Sacramento, California said they are especially interested with the disaster and emergency response infrastructure in American cities. “The 911 system is something we want to study so we can come up with a common standard for all our cities,” he explained.

Alaminos, host to the famed Hundred Islands tourist spot, is building an airport that could make the city an air transport hub in the region. Braganza said they rescued the Hundred Islands from illegal fishing but face the mounting threat of global warming that’s being blamed for severe weather in much of the world.

“The US may be high-tech and well-prepared but in the case of Honolulu, which is a sister city of many cities in Pangasinan, they have only one major calamity a year; in the Philippines we have an average of 20, and that’s just the typhoons. We’re not even talking about earthquakes and floods,” Braganza noted.

“In Honolulu they have sirens all over to warn the people and certain software like the 911 that could make life easier; so if we can partner with US cities not only in terms of knowledge-sharing but also the transfer of software applications, we can set a national standard among Philippine cities,” he added.

Braganza said through these alliances, they can help Americans navigate the investment bureaucracy in Philippine cities.

That was precisely part of their agenda during a separate meeting with the ASEAN-US Business Council here.

“We explained the process of securing business permits; we briefed them about the regional development councils and how President Aquino has given mayors more power to discuss specific topics like investment opportunities, sharing the national budget especially for infrastructure,” he averred.

Braganza also met with California Reps. Laura Richardson (37th district), Judy Chu (32nd District) and Xavier Becerra (31st District); and Eni Faleomavaega (American Samoa).

from Gonzalo Duque's column:

THE month of March, particularly March 15, to some people, is a tragic one.

It was the date Julius Caesar was brutally murdered by his own people led by Brutus. Most of you are familiar with that Shakespearean play.

But in some people's book, the date is a lucky day, in fact, the luckiest, if you ask the feng shui believers because it marks the appearance of the Three Stars. The Chinese say that it's the best time to start a business project.

This must the reason why Mayor Mark Macanlalay and company inaugurated the imposing Robinson Mall on March l5.

We weren't there, but our friend, Jess de Guzman told us there was a big crowd of people who came. We could already imagine the Calasiao folk feeling like they were in Cloud 9 and, well, well, laughing at us, Dagupenos.

Why laughing at us? Because, antam Manny Baby, jad Dagupoan kumon so angipaalageyan datan e. Dakkel so ngos ngos balungos da ray opisyales. Alewa so agenda ra.

Let's hope we don't have the same experience with regard to the SM group. We understand they are about to construct one, too, in Dagupan. Hmm, nitan kila, agyo laya sasapoen agagui.

We also hope that if some people here again try to block it, it won't be because of politics or business. Although that seems to be the common denominator in the city's big business.

If these known officials don't change their ways, expect SM to rise say, Mangaldan or Calasiao, again, or maybe Binmaley. Inatey lamet so Dagupan.

Sayang so baleg ya bwis agagui. Millions!

Say maong amo, with the Lenten season around the corner, let's ask Benjie and Belen to reflect deeply.

No naetbanan yo ya, balbaleg so pasnok na om baley ed sicayo!

* * *

We heard from a little birdie that BSL and Belen had a long heart-to-heart talk at the mayor's office last Thursday. That's good, but if the topic is to block SM, ay, madi, makapoy, makapasinagem.

* * *

By the way, someone told us that Mayor Hermie Romero is courting SM. Nitan la may ibabaga nen Jess.

This is a fair warning to our two top Dagupan officials.

Pangasinan airport to boost development

>> THURSDAY, MARCH 15, 2012
ALAMINOS, Pangasinan— Mayor Hernani Braganza of this city predicted a brighter future for the province with the planned construction of an airport and seaport facility here.

Now on its “clearing phase,” the establishment of an airport in the province is sure to enhance economic viability and will benefit the people, said Braganza.

He said he hopes that politics will not ruin the noble purpose of the airport project.

“We are the only province in the entire region that does not have an airport and a seaport,” said the mayor as he expressed confidence in the well-planned airport project of the Department of Transportation and Communications.

Alaminos City breaks ground for eco-friendly water treatment pond
By Alex Romeo R. Fernandez

Monday 19th of March 2012 TweetFacebookYahooEmailShareThis
ALAMINOS CITY, March 19 (PIA) — A ground breaking ceremony was held here on Sunday for the construction of an eco-friendly wastewater treatment pond in Barangay Poblacion.

The project will consist of an agri-aqua demo farm, organic reduction pond and nitrification pond, which will clean domestic, industrial and organic wastewater in several stages of natural process.

Known as the Free Surface-Flow Constructed Wetland for Natural Wastewater Treatment, the project will cover a 4,000 square meter land, which will also integrate an eco-park to be named Judge Felix R. De Castro Jr. Park., after the late father of the landowner, lawyer Alfred de Castro.

The project is spearheaded by the Democratic Local Governance in South East Asia (DELGOSEA) and was patterned after a project in Undothani, Thailand.

Because it uses natural method, the project can save the government substantial amount of funds, according to Mayor Hernani Braganza.

Rep. Teddy Casiño, an environmentalist, expressed enthusiasm over the project, saying it is a logical one considering that it does not need many artificial structures to be constructed for it to function.

Aside from the Philippines, the DELGOSEA is also currently undertaking different projects in Thailand, Indonesia, Vietnam and Cambodia depending on the needs of these countries, according to DELGOSEA Executive Director Antonio Avila.

DELGOSEA projects are being implemented in the country by the Local Government Development Foundation (LGDF) with the League of Cities of the Philippines and Union of Local Authorities of the Philippines, said Sheryll Bayan of the DELGOSEA. (ANL/ARRF-PIA 1 Pangasinan)

MSMED council pushes for entrepreneurship among Pangasinenses
By Venus H. Sarmiento

Monday 19th of March 2012 TweetFacebookYahooEmailShareThisDAGUPAN CITY, Pangasinan, March 19 (PIA) -- The Micro-Small-Medium Enterprises and Development Council in the province encourages Pangasinenses to become entrepreneurs and the same time contribute to the alleviation of poverty.

Howard Chua Cham, vice-chairman of the MSMED Council and owner of the Unique Lumber business in Mangaldan town, told the Philippine Information Agency that the opportunity for business in Pangasinan is very viable as the provincial and local governments are supportive of people to start a business which consequently could provide employment.

“More businesses will mean more employment and therefore will bring more progress to the province,” Cham said.

The council, he said, together with the Department of Trade and Industry, will work hand in hand with those who wish to start a business.

Cham noticed that many entrepreneurs are having a difficult time securing permits especially fire clearance permits, but promised to hold a dialogue with municipal and city mayors on how to expedite that requirement.

Almost 90 percent of businesses in the Philippines are MSMEs but are most often neglected because of their small capital, Cham said. But what they lack in capital, they have in numbers, he said.

The MSMED Council recently paid a courtesy call to Gov. Amado T. Espino, Jr. to present the features of Republic Act 6977 or the Magna Carta for Small Enterprises which seeks to promote entrepreneurship.

Espino said the Act will further promote progress to the local government and showcase the products of Pangasinan. He cited the wood furnitures of Binmaley town and bamboo products of San Carlos City being brought to other provinces for a wider market.

He said the ‘Pangasinan’s Best’ products are now also available in the United States thru the efforts of the provincial government.

Micro businesses are those with capitalization ranging from P500 thousand to P1 million. Small businesses have P1 million to P5 million in capital while those considered medium business have P5 million to P15 million in capital. (ANL/VHS-PIA 1 Pangasinan)
