Some background info...
Imelda Marcos commissioned the Coconut Palace as the Presidential Guest House of the Marcos's. She hoped Pope John Paul II would stay here on his 1981 visit. The Pope told Imelda she could have better spent the US$37 million construction budget on assisting the country's poor & he stayed elsewhere. The palace is shaped like an octagon (the shape given a coconut before being served), the roof is shaped like a traditional Filipino salakot or hat.

I have Francisco Manosa's monograph, and this is one of my favorite works by him. Its official name is actually "Tahanang Pilipino", which I prefer to its Coconut Palace nickname. I think this house is a brilliant example of infusing traditional Filipino architecture into a modern building.

bustero June 18th, 2008, 05:55 AM Just curious how much these design renders cost nowadays. Everyone seems to have them. Can you do the animation as well?
stephenpdavid June 18th, 2008, 07:27 AM Prices ranging from different categories (e.g. hi-rise, midrise, low-rise, residential, commercial, interiors, etc.). It will also depend on the 3D skills. The more realistic, the more expensive. Yes, I also do animation, walkthrus & flybys.

stephenpdavid June 19th, 2008, 01:55 AM Adverg, please post some actual completed photos so that we can see the difference between your design & the actual units. Thanks. :)
-TC- June 19th, 2008, 02:33 AM Mods,
We have 2 really great threads below:
1) Architectural & Interior Design (Residential & Condos)
http://www.skyscrapercity.com/showthread.php?t=642431
2) Interior Design/Decoration of Condo Units
http://www.skyscrapercity.com/showthread.php?t=522307
But why do we have 2 threads talking about the same topic instead of just 1? The 1st thread that discusses residential and condo designs (the mods had earlier changed it from just residential design to include condos as well) currently has 62 posts, the 2nd that discusses purely condo designs now has 87. To the mods, I feel that it would better for all of us if we only have 1 thread so let us merge them.
Suggestion ko lang naman @stephenpdavid. I hope you agree with us this time. Thanks. :)

Haha which is why I suggested to merge the 2 threads. It'll be better that way. :)

adverg June 19th, 2008, 03:38 AM @ Stephen,
Like what I've said, these are merely 3d proposals, I am only 1 month learned about it, and my previous ones was more on hand drawing like what I've showed in mega metro malls about house, retail, office and commercial renovations and hotel designs, I will post some when I arrange it but I cannot compare as what you have now. Tq
-TC- June 19th, 2008, 03:49 AM ^^Yung isa architectural sana..more on residential projects...while yung isa naman interior condos. :)
Yup but with the change in titles... they're now practically the same. Anyway, let us have the mods decide on this as I already PMed them. :)
-TC- June 19th, 2008, 03:51 AM -dp-
stephenpdavid June 19th, 2008, 03:52 AM ^^Architecture & Interior Design are two different aspects..masyadong broad din yan kapag pinag-sama.
-TC- June 19th, 2008, 02:18 PM And then there was 1 thread...
Architectural Design of Residential Houses & Condos
+ Interior Design of Residential Houses & Condos
----------------------------------------------
Architectural & Interior Design (Residential & Condos) :)
Thanks mods! :okay:
adverg June 20th, 2008, 08:48 AM @ Stephen,
This one you show, you solely design it or you have designers working for you. You mean you have your own company doing design and build services sa atin. I am planning to start next year, I have a lot of men waiting for me start this business, since I am not there for so long, can you give me advice or hints how the trend of this services will click, tq

Zenday Design, very nice design much better if it was fully fitted already, thanks for the compliments..
Tc, wah in Marikina, near my place, very nice, I visit this when I came back, who is the architect for this project?
@adverg... it could be Arnold Austria but am not sure if he is indeed the architect. The group is WC (Wednesday Club). The Parkfront Townhomes photos came from his Multiply site... I just uploaded them in Photobucket and posted them here.[/url]

Lili June 21st, 2008, 09:59 AM ^ bago lang yun? Seems like they were stuck in circa 50s architectural style. Maybe they were trying to echo that style. But still, it looks like a hodge podge of materials. And the bricks are faded already.
If there is an equivalent of barong-barong syle for building, that's it. Especially those galvanized sheet waiting sheds abutting the Registrar's Office.
Oh my, some people might get mad at me for my comments. Well, free expression.

Lili June 21st, 2008, 11:09 AM ^^ Agree with your observations about the older buildings of UPD.
I also liked the Econ building when it was newer. That was modern but with an organic feel and flow.

R u Lily Gamboa?
#1 - I'm also from UP; but considering the funds from the gov't, I've never quite expected them to build anything on the scale of the Brunei Sultan's palace. There's a thing called moolah...
#2 - I don't think those are galvanized steel sheets for the waiting area. Please give them even a little credit. They look more like clay tiles. (I could be wrong but I'd give them the benefit of the doubt.)
Anywho....

Yes, I've confirmed that he is one of the designers/developers of Parkfront (and also GA Skysuites of Globe Asiatique). For those who are interested, there is still 1 more Parkfront unit available for sale.
By the way, here is a teaser for their next project... Project Houston Living Houses:

The Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) is the central bank of the Republic of the Philippines. It was rechartered on July 3, 1993, pursuant to the provisions of the 1987 Philippine Constitution and the New Central Bank Act of 1993. The BSP was established on January 3, 1949, as the country’s central monetary authority.
History:
In 1900, the First Philippine Commission passed Act No. 52, which placed all banks under the Bureau of the Treasury and authorizing the Insular Treasurer to supervise and examine banks and all banking activity. In 1929, the Department of Finance, through the Bureau of Banking, took over bank supervision.
By 1933, a group of Filipinos had conceptualized a central bank for the Philippines. It came up with the rudiments of a bill for the establishment of a central bank after a careful study of the economic provisions of the Hare-Hawes-Cutting Act, which would grant Philippine independence after 12 years, but reserving military and naval bases for the United States and imposing tariffs and quotas on Philippine exports. However, the Hare-Hawes-Cutting Act would be rejected by the Senate of the Philippines at the urging of Manuel L. Quezon. This Senate then advocated a new bill that won President Franklin D. Roosevelt's support, this would be the Tydings-McDuffie Act, which would grant Philippine independence on July 4, 1946.
During the Commonwealth period, the discussion about a Philippine central bank that would promote price stability and economic growth, continued. The country’s monetary system then was administered by the Department of Finance and the National Treasury. The Philippines was on the exchange standard using the US dollar, which was backed by 100 percent gold reserve, as the standard currency.
In 1939, as required by the Tydings-McDuffie Act, the Philippine legislature passed a law establishing a central bank. As it was a monetary law, it required the approval of the United States president; Roosevelt did not give his. A second law was passed in 1944, during the Japanese occupation, but the arrival of the American liberation forces aborted its implementation.
Shortly after President Manuel Roxas assumed office in 1946, he instructed Finance Secretary Miguel Cuaderno, Sr. to draw up a charter for a central bank. The establishment of a monetary authority became imperative a year later as a result of the findings of the Joint Philippine-American Finance Commission chaired by Cuaderno. The Commission, which studied Philippine financial, monetary, and fiscal problems in 1947, recommended a shift from the dollar exchange standard to a managed currency system. A central bank was necessary to implement the proposed shift to the new system. Roxas then created the Central Bank Council to prepare the charter of a proposed monetary authority. It was submitted to Congress in February 1948. By June of the same year, the newly-proclaimed President Elpidio Quirino, who succeeded President Roxas, affixed his signature on Republic Act (RA) No. 265, the Central Bank Act of 1948. On January 3, 1949, the Central Bank of the Philippines was formall inaugurated with Miguel Cuaderno, Sr. as the first governor. The main duties and responsibilities of the Central Bank were to promote economic development and maintain internal and external monetary stability.
Over the years, changes were introduced to make the charter more responsive to the needs of the economy. On 29 November 1972, Ferdinand Marcos's Presidential Decree No. 72 amdended Republic Act No. 265, emphasizing the maintenance of domestic and international monetary stability as the primary objective of the Central Bank. The Bank's authority was also expanded to include regulation of the entire financial system of the Philippines and not just supervision of the banking system. In 1981, RA 265, as amended, was further improved to strengthen the financial system, among the changes was the increase in the capitalization of the Central Bank from Ps10 million to Ps10 billion.
In the 1973 Constitution, the Interim Batasang Pambansa (National Assembly) was mandated to establish an independent central monetary authority. Later, Presidential Decree No. 1801 designated the Central Bank of the Philippines as the central monetary authority (CMA). Years later, the 1987 Constitution adopted the CMA provisions from the 1973 Constitution that were aimed essentially at establishing an independent monetary authority through increased capitalization and greater private sector representation in the Monetary Board.
In accordance with a provision in the 1987 Constitution, President Fidel V. Ramos signed Republic Act No. 7653, otherwise known as the New Central Bank Act, into law on 14 June 1993. The law provides for the establishment of an independent monetary authority to be known as the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas, its primary objective being the maintenance of price stability. This objective was only implied in the old Central Bank charter. The law also gives the Bangko Sentral fiscal and administrative autonomy which the old Central Bank did not have. On 3 July 1993, the New Central Bank Act took effect. Within the complex of the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas, the nation's central monetary authority, resides a numismatist's haven - the Museo ng Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas. Inaugurated on January 3, 1999, as part of the celebration of the 50 years of central banking in the Philippines, the Museo showcases the Bank's collection of currencies.
As repository and custodian of the country's numismatic heritage, the Museo collects, studies and preserves coins, paper notes, medals, artifacts and monetary items found in the Philippines during its different historical periods. These collections have been placed on permanent display at the Museo.
Designed to "walk" the visitor through a number of galleries, individually dedicated to a specific historical period of the country, the Museo visually narrates the development of the Philippine economy, parallel to the evolution of its currency. Complementary paintings from the BSP art collection, together with chosen artifacts, enhance each gallery.
A panoramic memorabilia of 50 years of central banking in the Philippines, showcases the strides made in bringing about price stability, to sustain economic growth in the country. The exhibition hall also carries the busts of the governors of the Central Bank/ Bangko Sentral.

sista June 29th, 2008, 07:54 AM XP, you need to go to our buildings haha :)
Yup, the UPCA building complex is just new, so was the OUR, we started having registration there just this summer. Before that, registration happens in AS or Melchor Hall
UPCA was just occupied 3 years ago when the burned maintenance building was given to us (naks US lol). It looks abandoned because it lacks landscaping and a budget to finish the whole complex. A theater should be at the back of the drafting building, but due to the lack of funds, it still remains unbuilt. Pati pintura ng admin building, nagpepeel off with just masking tape and the roof is not a roof at all. It leaks when it rains so kawawa kami :(. The drafting area becomes an oven during the afternoon, and some of our tables well...look like they came from the 50's or something haha.
Overall, we appreciate that we have a place of our own rather than squatting in the 5th floor of the engineering building haha

Like how does a trend transition into a classic design and becomes timeless? What are the elements of style?
I am not in that line. I am neither an architect nor an interior designer. I am merely a viewer of those design styles and try to adopt those in my own space based on personal tastes.

Sorry If we have some misundertanding, I didn't mean to be angry, wrong timing when I see your message, I was in the midst of after hardheaded discussion with one contractor and my interpretation to your post was a negative way... Anyway to compliment your inquiry, not all design in terms of architectural and interior aspects have to be trendy in application. EVen they say minimalist is a trend at this new era, in fact if you really digest the origin of minimalist design, this considered an old design by I think founded or created by one european architect, I am not sure about it but and it is modified this days to modern taste of design concept like those italian and scandenavian furnitures design I admire them since the 80's but if you can see their design, it was applied now with some modifications like in IKEA. Classical design, cannot be superceded by modern ones, contemporary modern design, can still see the impact of classical design, modern contemporary depending on how you applied it, it can be with the appearance of more geometric figures thus with a touch of classical concept like say with not too much elaborate classical profile of plaster cornice then with the linear patterns of backdrop walls with groovelines or niches, this is applied now modernly but if you analyze it if the application of materials with "class" like in fabric, timber, ornamentals ane other display accessories, it considered "class" in it's look but modern in application.

hi lil.
classic is timeless- most of us knows that.
classic is from the 18th century.. as in ung luma.
pero when you talk about classic in today's time>>> it is roughly vvery broad..
that would include the bauhaus, scandinavian, frank lloyd wright. which most of us consider modern..
the classic design is favored by almost everybody they tend to use scrolls, arabesques, columns (corinthian, doric, ionic) what you see in dlsu or the post office perhaps-it uses the classical forms of columns and arches... which were brought by the americans that time and was introduced to us as Neoclassicism but the root of classicism really came from the GREEK Architecture> persepolis, temple of hera and sorts..
it is the design implementation that change from time to time..
if i may recall on my studies> wood used on columns that was used by the greeks changed then to stone to make it more stable or even today >> metal is used as column impressions
with elements that would mean the line, color, texture..
designer people mix these element to create design.
i say i am more of contemporary design but i do respect the cornerstone's of design the classic, the modern classic, and even the regional (asian, african, balinese).
as a designer you dont have to copy the classic all the time>>> like what i see in the philippines >>> they tend to have the medittereanean look in their home -- speaking the townhouses here in the philippines. or homes in posh subdivisions some architects implements columns on facades - which i think is inappropriate in philippine setting. or maybe just with the LOOK people want to achieve.
lil, think contemporary(what is now, for me green architecture is needed today= mahal ang kuryente>>use natural lighting) and simple> jot down what you really like and narrow them into what is YOU. you may IMMITATE but keep it in mind the PERSONAL TOUCH you want to achieve for your home.

adverg July 7th, 2008, 09:34 AM That puchong is quite far that one was in Proton warehouse, I am only near the ioi mall 4 km from it down to old klang road, how's your working when the time you are here, how do find the training in Malaysia... Good your going to Singapore, but the living standard there was so high, that is my first baptism of fire when I went out of the country, last 1991, I was with top 5 architectural firm by that time, SAA Partnership, the no 1 was DP Architects, we are the pioneer designers in Singapore, the old batch of kalog designers, lahat noon ay hand drawing pa, I do mostly presentation works in airbrush, my boss send me to Singapore which is his former Company, and I do part time renderer when he went back to Singapore that time. If you know the old telecom in Singapore it was design by my senior designer Roy Garcia that time, a filipino also now he is around 60 plus already, very good designer, some of the landmark design in Singapore design by him. I was exposed to MRT and Sentosa Development projects there in 1991. Goodluck to your new home, ingat maraming chicks diyan.......

jbkayaker12 July 12th, 2008, 11:15 AM ^^^^^^Unfortunately the church was painted in blue. I would have much preferred it if they kept the tan paint scheme on the church and also the surrounding areas were a mess with spaghetti wires dangling directly in front of the church.
Regarding the Central Bank of the Philippines which is an example of Brutalist style of architecture in Manila, I like their museum even though their artifacts on exhibit are not as extensive compared to the others I have seen.

Thanks @interiorarchitecture. I didn't get to pass by and read your explanation.
I agree with Green Architecture as a way to go. And that personalizing your space will give it the flair and sense of home that one wants to achieve in his/her personal space.
Right now, with Green Architecture, it might be expensive at the start when one is building it or re-designing a structure but hopefully, it pays off in the end.
When I visited Vancouver, BC, they were really very much into this already.
Except for new structures, it is not yet as readily implemented here in NYC since we have a lot of old buildings here already. Even when condo-buying around here, converting into eco-friendly and green buildings entails more expenses up front.
adverg July 13th, 2008, 09:06 AM @ Lili,
Thanks for the appreciation. Usually, I like playing with colours, but it still depends to it's usage, monochromatic colours is also my taste. Most especially nowadays, if you are dealing with restos, coffee bars and other dining facilities even now in hotels like this, they are more focus on colour treatments to attracts costumers and coz monochomatic application makes the place feel boring and and unattractive to users. Even zen design which applies cozy atmosphere, it doesn't. mean zen or bali look, everything to be brown or wallnut and grey. To enhance the place and yet it still bali or zen look, you must create attractive colours that represents on featured wall or item in your design. Example if you featured a wall, there must be an application of natural stone with orangy colours or putting sculptured glass with same colours or strong yellow or mint green. But your neutral colours still maintain as to seen in your built-ins or loose furnitures. Like this project, I revised my concept from the first one since I realize, it needs more attractive and very attractive place for people to dine and relax, with the application of artificial landscape at far end thus serve also as my featured wall.

With our commitment to contribute to the preservation of the environment, we will launch an interpretation of an environmentally-friendly house designed for the Filipino family. Called the LuzViMinda Eco-House Initiative, it is one of the major highlights at the forthcoming CONSTRUCTION SHOW MANILA 2008 set on 04 to 07 September 2008 at the SMX Convention Center.
Conceived and co-founded by Archt. James G. Jao, UAP, ModernA is a newly organized club of emerging architects from Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao. One of their primary objectives is to establish public advocacy initiatives to foster professional development in enhancing man-made environment.
In line with this objective, a mock-up of LuzViMinda Eco-House based on UK standards and adopted for the Philippine setting, will be set up for viewing during the ManilaCON, after which an actual structure will be built in Cebu City for an OFW family.
Further, the LuzViMinda Eco-House Initiative is a blueprint for the Filipino house that is 25% more energy efficient than a regular house built according to 2006 UK Building Regulation Standards. It will be presented as a case study for the construction of environmentally-friendly homes in the Philippines.
