About a month ago, I read that axiom estates was going to hold a property show in Central New Jersey about 50 miles south from where I live. Their website said that many big builders were going to come and showcase their properties. I PM'ed vibs89 (http://www.skyscrapercity.com/member.php?u=54535) who lives pretty close to the hotel where the show was going to be held. He agreed to come along and our plans were finalized in a jiffy.

I took the bus to NYC at 9am today. It took about an hour to reach the city since only local buses run on sundays. After reaching Port authority I ran 7-8 blocks to reach Penn station but just missed the train to central jersey. After an hour of waiting, 2 cups of coffee and 3 calls to friends in India, I finally boarded my ride which took about 45 mins to reach the intended station in central jersey. There I meet Vibs and off we went to the Ramada hotel.

This banner of Axiom estates was located in the lobby of the hotel. No prizes for guessing what project is shown on it.

Some of the big developers like Unitech, Hiranandani and Shapoorji Palloonji were present there. Shapoorji Pallonji's stall was entirely dedicated to the Imperial towers that are u/c in Tardeo, Mumbai.

here's a 360 degree view of the place. Apologies for the sound quality. My pet woodpecker loves pecking when I record a video.

We stayed there for about 75 mins and spoke with reps from all the developers that were there. To be honest, the event fared below my expectations. They didn't showcase any future projects that will be launched in India and neither did they present any new info on their present projects. At times I found some of the reps to be BSing and I corrected them. We introduced ourselves as members of SSC and the people there were quite delighted to know that I was also part of a skyscraper blog. Some of the reps were amiable and even gave us their own phone numbers/email-ids to get in touch for some pictures from the construction sites.

This is the Imperial stall. Initially there weren't many customers but later on the stall was bustling like a sabzi mandi.

The lady at the Imperial stall told us that the towers are infact 280m tall and not 249m as we thought. She agreed to mail me some new images of the towers soon. She also said that she would correct any wrong info that we had if we mailed her all the info we have. BTW, the imperial towers has it's own website now --> www.theimperial.in

some images of the banners behind the Unitech stall. They were showcasing all their projects right from Uniworld city in Kolkata to Uniworld city in Mohali to Unitech Grande in Noida.

I chatted with a representative about Unitech's future plans for India. Their upcoming project in Worli, Mumbai will be a commercial tower. Despite repeated attempts to make him blurt out more info on it, he didn't divulge any info on that project.

Moving on, he said they've conducted soil tests for their convention centre that's coming up in Kolkata. That will become India's largest convention center.

We also chatted with the rep at the Hiranandani stall about the project that's coming up in Chennai on the OMR. He showed us the masterplan of the project and told us that after all the phases are completed, there will be 25 towers in total. There was a banner there which said that they'll soon be launching a project in Hyderabad.

We collected brochures and CDs from all the developers and Vibs has kept them for now. I got an extra Imperial CD which I still have to check out. If there's something cool in it, I'll post it.

To sum up the event and the meet, I thought it was pretty successful. I do however wish there were more developers present like Kraheja universal, DLF and Brigade. Anyhow, I've made some new contacts and it was great meeting Vibs89 who picked me up from the station, drove us to the hotel and dropped me back to the station. Thanks for coming along man. :drunk:

Cheers

In only took 3 years for our members to muster up, but I'd like to think it was three years of diligent calculations and planning

And, I say, while not quite the ultra luxurious locale, delicately refined air and heady mead of intellectual discussion and great thoughts of the first SSC meet...

...but still rather decent nonetheless. Upm. Yes.

Its cool you got some facetime with the reps, and ha, calling them out on their mistakes. I've wondered how much money we could all make using our skyscrapery powers for evil (real estate sales) rather than good (blogging.)

Also cool that they seemed receptive to the idea of a nosy blogger. I've also wondered why Indian developers are so antithetic to the release of renderings to the internet. Now that we have contacts, maybe we can follow them up on the promise for pictures. They have to realize that blog=internet presence. Google any of the company's names or projects and chances are SSC India or the Indian Skyscraper Blog is going to be on that first page.

I think I related a while ago how my only experience with these kind of folks was blundering (literally, in a semi-inebriated, post-'bhangra' state) into a D.S.Kulkarni Developers (of DSK Durgamata fame) booth at a random Desi convention here, and how much of a beach the saleslady was, so good on you for apparently having far more suave and charm then me.

Do post whatever goodies you can gleam from the CDs and brocedures. (For the record, I totally called the Imperial Towers height actually being taller because they didn't count the podium! :))

BTW, I like how Imperial's website's flash intro has a hidden Noida Tower in it:

It was a great experience as it was my first time visiting property road show the way the event was organized was excellent however, I'm little disappointed that it wasn't up to our expectation as I thought we'll be able to get handy new future project info. Anyway to be honest at first I was little bit embarrassed while going to Axiom property show because we didn't went for buying a property but, IndiansUnite hat's off to him the way he talk to the representative boost my confidence not to feel embarrass and plus talk to the representative to dig out some more info about the future project. Hopefully IndiansUnite got some new contacts and gets some info about the current project that were listed in the property show. Finally, I have all the brochures and 3-4 CD'S of the developers like Rustomjee, Imperial Tower which contains flash video about 9 mins, Parsvarnath and Uniworld City and as I get free time I'll post them right away.

I won't be in NJ in August since I'll be moving to Illinois to attend uni. If some big developers are planning to attend the one Chicago, then I might check it out.

I see that you're still hallucinating after your first sip of beer at the paranoid lurker's supposedly 90th floor penthouse http://img392.imageshack.us/img392/1415/60761755gg6.gif

We should get back to blogging man. After I come back from India in July, I'd like to post again. btw, when exactly is the blog going to be moving to its own url?

One of the lady's representing AE got really excited after hearing about the blog and asked for its URL which I then gave her. And then there were some critters who flinched when I told them about it.

All the brochures are with vibs right now. When I am down there which I think I will be next weekend, I'll pick them up.

haha, it really is a weird logo for twin towers.

Awesome guys. this is wonderful.

Good job guys!

Thanks Hindustani and Suncity.

If anyone of you SSC-i bhailog are in the NYC area before Aug or in Chicago after Aug then let me know. We can then discuss our machinations for SSC-i.

Btw, the Axiom estates bandwagon will be touring other cities in the US and later the UK. Locations+dates can be found here (http://www.axiomestates.com/coming_events.htm) and here (http://www.axiomestates.com/coming_eventsuk08.htm)
