Great find Sercan thx.
Looks quite acceptable although Im not really sure about that video-cube (talking about the shadows in the Commerzbank-arena)
@Ipioe
Yes it seems pretty certain that this project will be realized very soon. That said, I still had hopes that Stuttgart would go for a new 50 or 60k stadium. But the money just isnt there so fair enough.
Atleats that athletics track will disapear.

Considering the distance between touchline stands and pitch, shouldn't touchline stands get renovated as well? On the render it seems much closer than what it is now.

No increase in capacity? I think Stuttgart should expand the stadium to at least 60K. They saw the average attendance of 44,800 in 2006/2007 season even when the stadium had athlectics tracks around the pitch. Maybe there isn't enough sponsorship from Benz to add a few thousand seats?

No increase in cap albeit the al-track will be gone.
But I also think they should have gone for 60k. Imo they should even have built a new stadium, but as usual the money apparently isnt there.
Bit of a shame considering that there isnt a big modern stadium around in the state of Bawü.
Carrerra May 28th, 2008, 04:54 PM Instead I hope them to see almost every game sold out after 2011/2012 season. That means they would enjoy about 10K attendance increase on average :) I'm sure they will do.

Jim856796 July 19th, 2008, 02:35 PM If this renovation project goes forward, I'm gonna dislike the stadium. I like it better in its current configuration. If the Gottlieb-Dalmier stadion gets redeveloped into a rectangular stadium, it won't be the Gottlieb Dalmier Stadium anymore. It'll just be a frakked-up stadium with rectangular stands and a oval roof.

Agreed I like this stadium at the moment one of the best in Europe with an athletics track. I don’t see why they need to re-configure the stadium especially seeing as capacity isn't going to be increased are there going to be any financial rewards out of this? And as far as i know even with the athletics tracks dont Stuttgart still sell-out.

Jim856796 November 16th, 2008, 10:55 AM I don't want this stadium redeveloped. I don't care if the new stands behind the goals improve views of the field. Max BGF April 17th, 2009, 02:26 AM And did the stadium undergo renovations for the 2006 World Cup?About 25 millions, mainly for infrastructure and the 2nd tier at the East stand. Those renovations won´t be touched.
^^Well, then they should have thought about turning it into a rectangle before the 2006 World Cup.They built a new 2nd tier at the East stand. That´s the problem. They should have rebuilt the complete East stand before WC 2006, namely moving it nearer to the field. Now it still is little steep and the proportions between East stand´s tiers are unfavourable. In contrast the main stand is really good-looking.
Unfortunately the field can be lowered down only circa 1 meter, since Stuttgart owns Western Europe´s largest occurence of mineral water and some springs reside near the stadium. Otherwise adding more rows would be possible - resulting in higher capacity and closeness to the field.
It'll just be a frakked-up stadium with rectangular stands and a oval roof. For that reason the arena is hardly gonna look optimal as if it were designed from scratch.
Also, have there been other examples of rectangular stadiums renovated from old oval stadiums?Hannover, to some extent.

Jim856796 May 19th, 2009, 06:30 AM And so the total frack-up of the soon-to-be-ex-Gottlieb Daimler Stadium has begun.
And I am sticking with my opinion on the stadium's new shape. I hate it, the stadium's roof will not match the new stands behind the goals properly even if its extended, and there is nothing you can say to do to change my mind. They should have either completely demolished the stadium and built a new football-only stadium, or they should have built a new 45,000 seat stadium elsewhere in Stuttgart.
This stadium was sustainable before its redevelopment, and it will be an insustainable white elephant after its redevelopment. RIP, the good Gottlieb Daimier Stadium 1933-2009.

Yeah IMO it has never been one of Germany's best, but removing the running track so the capacity is increased and football fans are properly served is a good thing. This is afterall primarily a football ground, not an athletics stadium.
Jim856796 June 13th, 2009, 07:52 PM Carrerra: Well, if it was that way, they should have left the lower tier alone and just added a second tier to the stadium.

Richo83 June 14th, 2009, 06:42 AM Carrerra: Well, if it was that way, they should have left the lower tier alone and just added a second tier to the stadium.
Because they wanted to pull the bottom bowl towards the pitch so it would hug it in a rectangular shape. As someone who has sat at the ends of oval cricket stadiums for football matches, it sucks being that far away. It makes it so much better and basically, the athletics track made football watching bad.
And another thing: i hae Mercedez-Benz. Are they responsible for this bad restructuration?
I very much doubt a car company would have that much influence in the stadium reconstruction, but that's me. Probably got more important things on their plate right now like trying to sell cars.
Jim856796 June 14th, 2009, 09:07 AM ^^I guess football-specific stadiums have to be a comfort zone for everybody here at SSC, huh?

Jim856796 June 14th, 2009, 10:27 PM I just liked the old stadium's look better. And I bet the conversion of Bremen's Weserstadium is better than this project.
bigbossman June 14th, 2009, 11:03 PM jim stop with your football specific stadium bashing, athletics stadiums have no place in football and if they can't sustain themselves on their own at that capacity then so be it. Priority should be given to the sport which actually sustains the venue and the fans who use it on a regular basis!
Richo83 June 15th, 2009, 02:36 AM ^^I guess football-specific stadiums have to be a comfort zone for everybody here at SSC, huh?
They don't have to be they just are. Speaking from experience, athletic stadiums used for football suck from a fans perspective and football should be doing everything it can to support the fan especially with the increase in ticket sales among other things. Trust me 99% of Stuttgartians (?) will be happy with this move. Anyway, you're the guy about sustainability, this stadium will be even more sustainable with more fans and more happy fans of this stadium.
Carrerra June 15th, 2009, 05:49 AM Ignore what Jim856796 says about football stadium conversion from athletic one. Basically he's anti-football, so, he's always against the conversion whether the original athletic stadium in good shape or not. From his perspective, a football stadium is at its best with huge gaps from stands with running tracks around the pitch.
Jim856796 June 15th, 2009, 06:14 AM ^^Not too huge, though. I don't bash all football-specific stadiums. You know that Soccer City, San Siro Stadium, Santigo Bernabeu, Camp Nou, Wembley Stadium, Monumental U, Saitama Sadium, Suncorp Stadium, Sukru Saracoglu, and the Westfalenstadion, and several others are among some of the greatest rectangular football specific stadiums in the world. I am not completel anti-football (soccer). I was only against this conversion and not the convetsion in Bremen.
And one more thing: the Jornalisto Mario Filho Stadium is a oval, but that stadium does NOT have athletics track.
Richo83 June 15th, 2009, 06:18 AM Then he can't pretend to be about sustainability (which his sig and the bit underneith his name says) since many stadiums used for football struggle when they have an athletics track and do much better without. You don't see many football stadiums being built with a track and that's for a good reason. Bad crowds, bad stadium, sucks for fans. If you look at the stadiums that get the most attendances and money, they have no athletics tracks. Stuttgart needs money to sustain their success, good luck to them.
Richo83 June 15th, 2009, 06:19 AM ^^Not too huge, though. I don't bash all football-specific stadiums. NMAISTER007 July 24th, 2009, 01:18 PM Are those red seats going to be the official seats of this stadium? Or are they going to change them?

FrankWhite July 29th, 2009, 01:13 PM here you can see some of the rows that have been added:

Andre_idol December 24th, 2009, 04:28 AM There´s some special reason for the second tier not be completed as you see in the upper right corner?
pamirez December 24th, 2009, 01:48 PM It will be the same on the other side. the main stand will be separated from the rest optically. I think it is because the main stand's second tier is higher. Otherwise there would be a kind of a sharp bend.

pamirez December 27th, 2009, 05:05 PM how much terracing will this stadium have?
about 10.000 in the new cannstatt sand. Here is a picture
http://img31.imageshack.us/img31/2139/stehpltze.jpg
bigbossman December 27th, 2009, 05:25 PM ^^ cheers, why so little? surely if they fill the whole of the lower tier of the cannsatt stand the capacity would be even bigger?
pamirez December 27th, 2009, 05:53 PM ^^ cheers, why so little? surely if they fill the whole of the lower tier of the cannsatt stand the capacity would be even bigger?
10.000 is already an increase. Currently only a small part (about one third on the left side behind the goal) of the Cannstatt Curve is for terrarcing - about 6.000 people. So I think the ambiance will be great.
bigbossman December 27th, 2009, 06:01 PM Fair enough I was just thinking clubs like Dortmund and Schalke have 16,000 and 25,000 and Stuttgart is a bigger city, and a big club also, hey ho!
Just another question (sorry), what's the distance between the stands and the pitch it doesn't look as bad as in the first render I saw. It looks better than the emirates at least!
Oh and another question what's happened to stuggarter kickers, do people in stuttgart still support them?
pamirez December 27th, 2009, 06:26 PM yeah you're right....but Dortmund, the Signal Iduna Park and maybe also Schalke are a completely a class of it's own. Bayern München with it's 70k Allianz Arena and by far the most fans in Germany does have 13.000. So 10.000 sounds like a good number to me =)
concerning the pitch..I don't know exactly. The only numbers I found are saying that the distance between the ditch for the stewards and the goal line is 8.50 to 9.80 meters.
Stuttgart had a bad coach this season. Now they got a new one. They already won the last 2 champions league games and also the last bundesliga game vs. Hoffenheim....so it is going up =) we're looking forward to the champions league game vs. FC Barcelona

the stand/curve behind the other goal will be demolished by the end of the current season in june. Therefore this stand has to be completed in august when the new season starts.
They do not rebuild both stands at the same time because Stuttgart wanted a minimum capacity of around 41.000
Like I said: Stuttgart had a bad coach. They did not lose a game since they fired him. In the last 5 games they made more points than in the 15 with the old coach. If this streak continues they could make to Euro League.

Ahhh smart move... I like the renovation, makes it look much football like and not Olympic with the running track around it...
Yup, im sure if they continue they will make the European League....unless they mess up in the months to come....Wolfsburg has the same problem, but so far with their new coach they managed to just draw....and they face bayern next so they will probably lose or darw...if they win its going to be a huge surprise...
also Stuttgart faces Nurnberg next...should be a easy victory...

simcard February 10th, 2010, 06:24 PM very nice stadium :)
pamirez February 10th, 2010, 06:42 PM are the fans happy with the new stands?
Well the ones I know are very happy :) Most of the fans did not like the running track. I visited some games this year and was standing in the fan-block...the atmosphere is always great in Suttgart, but the sight from the curve isn't the best. You can hardly see what's happening at the other goal side when you're in the lower area of the curve.
I also like the fact that the new stands have a second tier, even if it has only 10 rows.
There will also be a big fan-pub in the new Canstatt-stand
There are always some guys who say "leave the stadium like it is", but I believe that everyone will be happy once the stadium is finished.
@likasz: I don't know yet. The capacity was 53.198 during the world cup....I think it will be around 55.000
Frnjchuga031 February 10th, 2010, 07:00 PM There is another problem with round tiers from fans point of view... The sound comes later to the stand sides so its hard to control singing from middle to the sides of the stand... ;)

but this must be an old plan. Unfortunately it does no show the second tier of the new stands and the two upper tunnels are still where they are now. It will look more like this:

Evil78 February 24th, 2010, 07:08 PM Nice project! :okay:
But i don't understand how this stadium will get at the end of renovation works to a capacity of 60.000?? It's a difference of 20.000 compared to the old capacity! I understand that the pitch was lowered, but 20.000 is still too much(a small stadium) and by eliminating the athletics track the capacity should actually decrease?! Will the roof be lifted somehow for new stands???
Patrick February 24th, 2010, 07:11 PM ohoh, the current capacity is 40,000 due to the construction site ;)
the old capacity was 55,896.
Evil78 February 24th, 2010, 07:20 PM ohoh, the current capacity is 40,000 due to the construction site ;)
the old capacity was 55,896.
I still don't understand. The stadium gets smaller if you take out the running tracks. Unless the stands get higher......
Otherwise if the capacity now is 40.000 than it means that the one stand which is being built on the photos will alone have 20.000 ???
pamirez February 24th, 2010, 08:20 PM I still don't understand. The stadium gets smaller if you take out the running tracks. Unless the stands get higher......

not exactly... the two new stands + the 5 rows that have been added to the existing main stand and the ENBW stand will increase the capacity to 60.000. You have to consider that the new stands have a second tier with 10 rows and a first tier with 45 rows....so they are quite massive.
and no, the roof won't be lifted. It will be expanded to the middle because now it is not covering the complete new stand

totally agree. Definitely more than 7.5 meters. Don't know what happened to this plans. Do you know the lates UEFA/FIFA regulations?
http://img195.imageshack.us/img195/2024/live1.jpg
www.sercan.de February 24th, 2010, 10:43 PM its actually still 7,5. But know they say 7,5, but 10m is better.
But can still use 7,5m :)
Maybe its just the plan of the first asp version.
I remember the first one hat just 1 tier at the goalstands
Mr. Fitz February 24th, 2010, 11:08 PM I've got to say I don't like the second tier, but still positive to make it a solely football stadium.
MicroX February 25th, 2010, 12:32 AM I noticed that one of the stands was under constructions yesterday during the game.
pamirez February 25th, 2010, 11:43 AM jap....too bad they didn't have full capacity in this game...stadium of this year's champions league winner ^^^^ höhö
and yes sercan...must be an earlier version of the arena.
www.sercan.de February 25th, 2010, 11:51 AM the old one i meant
http://www.pro-vfb-stadion.de/stadionskizze.jpg
as far as i remember at this version distance was 7,5m
pamirez February 25th, 2010, 12:10 PM wow I've never seen that before. But this picture shows a lowering of the pitch of 4 meters? and a new curve instead of a straight stand. I'm glad they didn't decide to do something like this.
www.sercan.de February 25th, 2010, 12:34 PM No. New goal stands were planned as normal stands. Not curve :)
The new ones were even stepper and closer than the real ones which are u/c :
G. Manetta Marquezin February 25th, 2010, 01:00 PM what's the new capacity???

Richo83 March 9th, 2010, 07:23 AM No offense Bremen fans but this project impresses me more. They haven't tried to merge two curved lines, they're got rid of the corners and rebuilt them so they're coming from a straight line instead of a curved line, so you don't get the dog's breakfast which is Bremen's right corner on the end they're currently doing (everyone knows what I'm talking about, right?)
Oh and it's good to see sun in Stuttgart and Europe in general, good for building times.

There will be a terracing area for 10.000 fans behind the north goal (the Canstatt stand that will be demolished after this season).
You can see it in the picture below. The stand will be all-seated, but i think with folding seats in this area.

alabro May 15th, 2010, 11:56 PM Just looking at these pictures again, and wondering, why did they not bring the new stands in even closer to the park?
I'm assuming the idea is to bring them in to improve the ground as a football stadium, but there still seems to be a fair sized gap from the goalline to the front of the new stand, which seems a bit of a missed opportunity to make this as good as possible, IMO.
Andre_idol May 16th, 2010, 06:04 AM ^^If I´m not mistaken the stadium must have a gap of 7,5m(?) between the stand and the pitch.
Jim856796 May 17th, 2010, 07:23 AM The stands that are being dismantled had steps that are two narrow for regular seating. A row of seating is added every third step. The new stands are going to have wider steps for regular seating, despite one of the stands being a standing-only area. It's still going to be a weird stadium with rectangular stands and a oval roof, that just ain't natural in a stadium.
OldWorldResident May 17th, 2010, 07:01 PM Indeed it looks weird. The roof is great and I understand why they kept it, but the roof and the new stands simply doesn't fit together. Does the roof even cover all seats?
Jim856796 May 17th, 2010, 10:36 PM ^^Roof's probably going to be extended to be that way. I wish back in 1992 that this stadium were redeveloped into a football-only stadium and a smaller athletics stadium (35k capacity would be constructed elsewhere in Stuttgart. Otherwise, if this stadium or its roof were kept as an oval, these renovations could ruin the look of the stadium and its roof.

Yes, it looks as if the gap was more than 7,5 meters. Maybe 10-12 meters, I'd guess.
The reasons should be quite obvious:
- a bigger gap means that a sufficient extension of the roof needs to be smaller as well. The closer the first row is to the pitch, the more new roof has to be installed, what means more tricky and expensive constructions. For the last rows, there is an existing roof anyway.
- a bigger gap means than not so uch of main and opposite stand have to be cut off. Those two stands just have been totally reconstructed in the last decades, every meter to be cut off means the expenses for the reconstruction dont pay anymore, ans every more meter to be cut off costs something like 100 seats (taken 50 rows for example). So if you bring both ends 5 meters closer to the pitch, you lose a total of 20 meters on main and opposite stand and a total of roundabout 2.000 seats.
All these things don't make sense if you already have existing stands and an existing roof that are still in excellent condition.

Andre_idol June 8th, 2010, 04:49 AM Now that I watched this update I was wondering...won´t be a difference in the colours between the old seats and the new ones? They will all be red right but the "used" ones will look different from the new ones...
cuysal88 June 8th, 2010, 06:31 AM The roof sucks ...

Those seats that were in a good condition will be used in the new stand again. Then I think that all seats were not installed at the same time. The seats in the main stand should be newer.
