Announcment from Fenerbahçe Sport Club: the Last changes on the construction statue of the arena are being made and construction will start very soon. I guess, they are increasing the capacity.

15 k is not for concerts, 15 k is basketball capacity... It is not final venue because construction is not under the control of TBF and they doubt if they will be complated on May 2010.

And please don't believe what TBF and his president Demirel says about Sinan Erdem. He has some obsessions and prejudices. Sinan Erdem is a mix of Athens OAKA and Peace and Frienship Stadiums and copy borther of Jordi Sport Palace of Barcelona. It is not a n NBA style basketball arena and Demirel is negatively obessed against such sport complexes. If Jordi turns to basketball hall, ours can do it easily. He must leave the job to the architects and stop the talk so much.

Actually there aren't any land cost.
Club became it free. Therefore they have to pay a rate every year.
I think 100 Mil, Euro are 130 Mil. USD.
But don't forget its Turkey. Lower workers and material cost :)

However, the on time availability of a suitable venue in Istanbul remains uncertain. The project of the venue in the downtown area, following the discussion with the government, will not be realized in time and efforts are being concentrated on the privately funded Fenerbahce-Ulker Project for a 15'000 seats arena. This venue is planned to be opened for use until May 2010. However, the final designs have yet to be approved by the authorities and constructions should be starting within the next four months.

Sprint Center is a lot bigger, JQH Arena opened last year at 11,000 seats and expandable to 12,500 is closer in size and was $67 million with no land costs.

No, there was supposed to be also a project in the downtown area, which the government was supposed to take care of, but because of a lack of time and availability of funds, they will now only focus on the Fenerbahce Ulker project, which is in the uptown area :lol:

It is very clear that this entire complex is being building with the aid of the official sponsor Ulker and the Atasehir Belediyesi government. But this partnership will ony last for 7 years.

The Atasehir Belediyesi government was the owner of the plot on which this entire complex is being build and Ulker will finance the construction of the complex together with Fenerbahce.

As I said before this partnership will only last for 7 years, but during those years all the income generated by the restaurants, parkingspaces, malls, etc will be split equally with the other 2 partners.

After those 7 years Fenerbahce SK will be the only owner of this complex, including the grounds on which it is build.

Actually nothing changed.
There are rumours that they do not get the permission, because of the retail and hotel buildings.
Just Arena / sports would have been ok, but not with the mall and hotel.

Actually work hasn't even stopped for a second. Thay are now slamming huge metal beams into the ground to fortify it. When that has finished they will start pouring concrete.

Efes Pilsen is the most successfull basketball team in Turkey and it is sponsored by Efes Pilsen the Beer company, there is some talk of them shutting down because of restrictions of advertising alcohol in sports games though I don't know if they will.

Ulker, on the other hand is a food company. Ulker was the second most successfull club in Turkey but they didn't have a lot of fans. Fenerbahce was a club with a large fanbase but didnt have the finances to compete with Efes and Ulker. So Ulker decided to shut down its team and become the main sponsor of Fenerbahce, and the two teams merged. The current fanbase of the team is almost entirely made up of Fenerbahce fans...

I am so sorry that construction of the arena started very late and we couldnt use this arena for world basketball championship...

I think they haven't done that because this arena will also host the games of the volleyball teams, and if these guys hit a ball bad, they can injure spectators, who would be sitting really close to the pitch, and cause serious damage.

Since changes need to be approved, construction has to be halted in order to see the viability of new structural changes, and since the project hasn't laid still, I don't think changes have been made. galatasarat's project was different. galatasaray'S land huge too. someone else started to lobby for block that project and they successed.

- 90% of the carcass/skeleton is done.
- first precast-rows are installed.
- 44 suites.
- there will be a training-hall (with 1.250 portable seats) next to the arena. foundation is u/c.
- they use ecological/green-construction - low energy with maximum results...
- when facilities are finished, used water etc. will be rehashed/recycled.

rivalary is Fenerbahçe-Galatasaray. Beşiktaş is the one of the big 3 both, it is not a part of rivalary. You can ask any Fenerbahçe and Galatasaray fan.

Basically, that's the question I am asking myself for a while - arena looks too huge for just 12,500.

I think it's because of its exterior design and the roof. The exterior design will be made from high-quality, environmentally sustainable materials, and with off course the luxury that comes with it. Then you have the retractable roof, which needs off course a strong base to sit on, which makes it a huge construction to support the weight of it without damaging the structural integrity of the building.

Ülker Arena has got very deep rows. 86cm deep. Even modern stadiums have just 80cm.
