View Full Version : Urban Birmingham.......photos

We all love the photos of Birmingham's skyline with the "green" suburbs forming an eco friendly back drop. This thread's all about posting photos of Birmingham where she looks, in said photos, like a big F*** Off urban creature in similar standing to such already, much adhered (maligned?), urban creations such as Sao Paulo, Shanghai etc....not that our city will ever reach the proportions of the afore mentioned cities but with a few clever photos we can create that urban image...............I go first:banana:

Ok

Bit of a skyline shot for me tho:

Actually come to think of it i can see a Tractor at the bottom of the picture. Surely this must therefore be a Rural photograph, at least according to WiggleyLeeds anyway. ;)

Foir some reason this picture reminds me of the opening credits of Dallas. Birmingham needs an over the top soap opera, someone write a suggestion to the BBC or something, sharpish.

Aww, here's Calthorpe House before it sacrificed itself/was brutally murdered to make way for Edgbaston Galleries.

http://i179.photobucket.com/albums/w314/concretelover/URBANITY1.jpg

An unused railway viaduct, a shed, a tree and an Audi Quattro. It doesn't get much more urban than this.

There's a fundamental flaw in that idea! You mentioned BBC and Birmingham in the same context.

Here's a few pics from me - probably posted before elsewhere!

Not a skyline, but very urban.....

The Jericho picture is few years old as it predates Brindley Place, I can't work out what building it is of though

The Leaning tower of birmingham aka the rotunda. Could be a new tourist attraction.

And it's the Brasshouse! :) It's pre-1994, back when Hyatt had the old logo. I love that picture!

I still like this one, even though it is a thousand years out of date & only shows one third of the city centre skyline!

^^ What is the logo at the top of Fiveways Tower there, it looks like the 'be in birmingham' thingy, but surely the council hasn't been using that long?

I think it is, I've never noticed it before. Do you reckon the picture is about 5 years old?

Erebus555
July 9th, 2008, 05:57 PM
I'm guessing that that was taken in 2002 so it would be about 6 years old! Remember, the council were hoping to make Birmingham the capital of culture. They used the slogan 'Be in Birmingham 2008' and that 'b' appeared on the scene around then too.

I think the skyline pic above is early summer 2003 as Centenary Plaza was under construction back when i was working at the ICC in late 2002 and early 2003. It was not quite that far gone though at that point and it is clearly a summer shot given the tree cover.

^^New Street Station needs a match to it:lol: The skyline looks so dense in that pic from the station roof. I think the V Tower should help to balance all the other tall buildings nicely:)

Totally agree with Shel, that final Flickr photo on Feltip's post is :okay: Loving Ginger Tosser's fisheye view of the skyline too!

Here's a very urban-pastel mish-mash from me....

There was a pretty good skyline over brum last night, couldnt resist taking some shots. You can just make out the rotunda and the bt tower.

You're right dogga.... it was a cracker. I came through Spaghetti Junction from Erdington at about 10 o'clock and there was a great sunset across the city.

Here's one from me that's more recent than those in the last post!

That's taken from the travelodge I presume? The four tower blocks really seem to fit in with the cityscape in that photo.

Some excellent photos in this thread so far and it's also a good excuse to dig out any old ones that might be lying around.

I love this photo: this part of Birmingham looks to be part of some Hollywood created gothic-sprawl in this photo!

Found this one on Flickr. Quite a contrast for urban picture. Trees almost look like been added after.
