MEGAPROYECTO EN SAMANA

The New York Times:

Angsana Samaná Bay and Legacy Condominiums
By NICK KAYE
Published: March 28, 2008

Angsana, the sister brand of Banyan Tree Hotels & Resorts, was introduced in 2000 and now includes resorts in Australia, India, Thailand, Indonesia and the Maldives. Its first foray into the Caribbean will be this project on the northeast coast of the Dominican Republic in Santa Bárbara de Samaná, the largest city on the burgeoning Samaná Peninsula. Plans call for a hotel with 250 suites and villas, a 284-slip marina and around 470 various full-ownership residences. The majority of these residences will be condominiums, both in low-rise buildings at the marina and in larger buildings inland; 31 villas and town houses will be built on hills at the site’s highest point. The villas and town houses will feature decks with private infinity pools. There will be terraces off all the condos, and those at the marina will include whirlpools. A casino, a spa, restaurants and shops will fill a village at the marina, and gondolas will transport owners and guests from the marina to an island with another spa and a restaurant. There will be multiple communal infinity pools, including one at the beach club, a yacht club, a fitness center, tennis courts and a kids club. A new airport at the base of the peninsula, where flights arrive from San Juan, P.R., and elsewhere, opened in 2006.

Sales begin next month. The first phase is scheduled to open in 2010.

Here's more, ..

Santo Domingo.– Angsana Samaná Bay, a five-star luxury beachfront development in Samaná Bay, is currently being developed by Nexus RD. It is in the initial phases of construction with completion of its first phase expected in 2010.
The complex will consist of oceanfront marina residences; exclusive villas and townhouses; a five-star hotel with luxury suites, villas and a full service spa; and a 280-slip [marina] with over 22,765 feet of mooring length. The project will also offer a 108,000-square-foot upscale waterfront commercial village.
While most resorts in the Dominican Republic offer all-inclusive packages, Angsana Samaná Bay will only provide first-class accommodations and experiences tailored to the guest’s personal preferences in an exclusive setting.

From an earlier press release:

Singapore Main-Board listed Banyan Tree Holdings Limited (“Banyan Tree” or the “Group”), a leading developer, designer and operator of top-tier hotels, resorts, spas and retail galleries worldwide, today announced that it has signed a management contract with the developer Nexus RD for an integrated resort under its Angsana brand in the Samana region of the Dominican Republic. Angsana Samana Bay is the Group’s third flag in its portfolio of properties in the Caribbean and follows on from Banyan Tree’s developments in Barbados and the Turks and Caicos Islands. “This agreement affirms our commitment to the Caribbean and the Americas and is a testament to the growing recognition that Angsana Resorts and Spa enjoys in the region. We are very pleased to be a pioneering participant in the development of Samana as a leading resort and marina destination in the Caribbean,” said Executive Chairman, Mr. Ho Kwon Ping.
Angsana Samana Bay will be Banyan Tree’s first fully integrated resort development in the Caribbean. The anchor property of the development is Angsana Resort and Spa Samana Bay: Designed by WATG, Angsana Resort and Spa Samana Bay will have about 200 suites. Showcasing Angsana’s signature brand of Asian hospitality, the resort will feature a flagship Angsana Spa, signature dining experiences and world class conference facilities.
In addition, there will be over 450 Angsana Residences units for sale, Angsana Marina which comprises 280 moorings, and Angsana Marina Village which will feature over 50 retail outlets offering a wide variety of shopping and entertainment amenities for visitors. Spanning a total area of over 22 hectares, Angsana Samana Bay will be the largest upscale lifestyle and entertainment facility in the region.
