Custom House
Completed 1927

Shanghai Custom House with classic and Renaissance style (originally named Jiang Hai Custom House) at 13 Zhongshan Road (E1) was built in 1927. Four huge Roman granite columns prop the gateway. The upright bell-tower serves as the vertical axis of the building which looks gorgeous and magnificent.

This beauty looks like it should be in the rate our architecture forums instead? If I were to rate based on it as a scraper, it gets only 7.5 from me!! :D

That's the former Shanghai HQ of the Hongkong Shanghai Banking Corporation (HSBC). When it was built this building was the most expensive office building in the world. If you should have the chance to go to Shanghai you have to go inside to have a look at the mosaique dome – just fabulous!

The new owner is the Pudong Development Bank.

this is the finest example of a colonial waterfront building in the world without a doubt. shanghais waterfront should be a world heritage area like liverpools is.

yello, the building is not the former most expensive in the world. youre referring to fostsers 1977 hsbc hq in hong kong that was the most expensive in the world when built.
