Kingston Road LRT

This LRT was planned before Transit City. Originally, it was to run from Kennedy Station east on Eglinton Avenue and southwest in its own right-of-way (ROW) through the very wide Kingston Road to either Victoria Park station via Danforth Avenue or the Bingham loop at Victoria Park and Kingston Road. Now, however, it is likely that the portion along Eglinton will be eliminated as it duplicates the route of the Malvern LRT. Eventually, this route would link up to the Leslieville streetcar to provide a transfer-less trip to the downtown core, however the narrow widths of both Kingston Road and Queen Street west of Victoria Park are prohibitive seeing as this proposed route will need to be built entirely in an ROW. Newer designs show the line originating at either Main Station or Victoria Park Station.

The TTC now favours a BRT for this route, connecting at Victoria Park station, and then using Danforth Avenue east towards Kingston Rd.

Gee, whatever happened to the argument that BRT is unsuitable for Toronto's transit needs and must only be relegated to 905 sprawl? :| Seems to me as if several of the corridors slated for Transit City could've been made to facilitate BRTs afterall.

This idea existed before Transit City, and the Malvern LRT is pretty much duplicating the original route.
The TTC says the demand does not justify an LRT line.
The idea is to have one lane for cars, one for buses, and one for bikes.
Sounds good... In theory. I have been to that area, and I honestly do not see how you can take away a lane of traffic.
And a bus lane does not automatically constitute BRT.

This lines main purpose was to create continuous transit service along Kingston Road, however this is basically the same as the current situation. Currently, the 86 Scarborough operates on Kingston Road between Eglinton and Medowvale, and the 102 Markham operates from Eglinton to St. Clair. Danforth is further, but not by much, it also doesn't directly serve Kingston Road east of Eglinton.

The Kingston Road route, whatever technology is chosen, should operate at least as far east as Morningside, with a direct connection downtown via Woodbine and Lakeshore Blvd. Now that would really be great.

The Malvern LRT will only operate on Kingston Road in between Eglinton and Morningside.

I agree that the purpose of this should have been to provide continuous service along Kingston Road from Coxwell to at least Markham Rd. as per the original EA, IMO preferably to at least Guildwood GO/VIA, and IMO ideally all the way to Morningside (whether at Kingston Rd. or at UTSC, there could be blended service as LRT along the overlapping portion of the Malvern LRT).
