Some info on the re-development of Walsall Manor Hospital currently u/c

Project description
The new Manor Hospital will be built in phases so that the hospital remains fully operational with as little site disruption as possible. Outdated buildings will be replaced to provide state-of-the-art facilities that will benefit patients and staff with the majority of clinical services located under one roof. The work to prepare the site is underway and the scheme will be completed by 2010.

New services at The Manor will include a Diagnostic and Treatment Centre and combined Women’s, Children’s and Young People’s Centre that is linked to the existing Maternity Unit. A new Multi-Professional Education Centre will provide superb training facilities for NHS staff from within the Trust and across Walsall.

The new Diagnostic and Treatment Centre will provide specialist and general outpatient services, day case facilities and operating theatres.

The new Women’s, Children’s and Young People’s Centre will provide integrated care for inpatient and outpatient visitors with dedicated diagnostics and operating theatres. This new centre will be linked to the existing maternity unit.

I like how all the new development in around the exterior of the site leaving what looks like a rather dull (but no doubt practical) post modernist 1990s style hospital hidden in the middle.

Cheers, I have to admit this one slipped under my radar. The new stuff don't look too bad there either I guess.

Obviously nowhere near the scale of what's going on on Metchley Lane but just as much needed. A lot of the Manor Hospital that's currently being demolished (to make way for this new development) is outdated and impractical. This will be a big boost for Walsall which needs a hospital fit for the size of town it serves.
