This is part two of my holiday to South East Asia. I was in Indonesia for 10 days and visited the cities of Jogjakarta and Jakarta as well as Borobudur temple. I loved Indonesia a lot and thought that both cities were a relief from the Aussie-clogged beaches of Bali.
JOGJAKARTA
This is a nice and small city that still has a buzz. Full of students as it is a university town, it does offer a lot of culture such as Borobudur, a Buddhist temple which is one of the Wonders of the World. Most importantly, the girls in Jogja are some of the prettiest I have seen in my entire life. Not too many tourists here like there are in Bali but this is an advantage as you can see the true Indonesia.

JAKARTA
Jakarta is a forgotten city in my eyes. There are few tourist guides on this city but it does not mean it should be avoided. Jakarta is a beautiful city despite being chaotic at times. People in this city are some of the friendliest I have come across, perhaps it is this sense of solidarity of the city's citizens because they have gone through a lot in the last 100 years. Jakarta is modernizing at a very fast pace with new skyscrapers and shopping malls going up everywhere. Forget what some travel agents say about the city as it is definitely worth visiting and it is safe. It is a shame that some poverty still exists and I hope that Jakarta will rise like a Pheonix to become an Asian leader among cities.

i've just return from Yogyakarta as well... you can feel the influence of Javanese culture very well there. i enjoyed the hustle and bustle of the night life in Yogyakarta at Malioboro... it is so full activities there (something that i couldn't find in Jakarta :()
and of course visiting Borobudur and Prambanan is just the best...
about Jakarta, as living in Jakarta myself i think this city is a bit "rough" and maybe hard for tourist to enjoy as i think this is a city basically where people go to make money and that it may be a bit too chaotic... but for me if you can put up to all of the problems that Jakarta have the rest is just there to be enjoyed... anyway how did you find Jakarta?
anyway thank you for posting the pictures and thank you for visiting Indonesia. i hope you enjoyed your visit to Indonesia and come back again...:)

Correct one is spelled with Y... Indonesian was used to say 'Y' but write it with 'J'. So Jogjakarta is an old spelling. But since 70's, they changed that to Yogyakarta. CMIIW

^^
before 1970s with the Ejaan Yang Disempurnakan (EYD) changes made, Indonesian is phonetically following Dutch pronounciation. example like 'oe' is read as 'u' in today's Indonesian... other examples are 'dj' to 'j', 'j' to 'y', etc.
bener gak sih?

The correct one is of course YOGYAKARTA (and this one refers to the province).
And JOGJA is also correct (refers to the city).

Let me clear this. The true name is still "Yogyakarta" . Why they use Jogja instead of Yogya in their advertisement ?
According to Landor, the firm who designed the brand "Jogja : Never Ending Asia" , Jogja chosen because foreign tourist usually difficult to spell Y-O-G-Y-A. That's why they used Jogja, instead of Yogya :)
